Happy Friday!

Lots of stuff for you today as I head off for a weekend of yard work and family time!  First, we have a winner for the “Kalamack for Mayor!” photo.  Congratulations, JCroteau for her fabulous picture of the Kalamack Campaign Headquarters.  Her photo was selected to be included in the upcoming HOLLOWS INSIDER, and she will receive a signed copy of the same along with her page of choice from the graphic novel, BLOOD WORK.  (wow, lots of links!)

I’ve also something kind of cool for those of you who get the RT magazine!  I have an article in there this month about BLOOD WORK, touching on what I like about working in the graphic novel medium, some tips for aspiring writers, and a few pages that you might not have seen yet.  (Kisten is in one of them!!)  So look for it on the shelves if you are so inclined.  When and if they put it on line, I will give you the link.   (If you look close, you can see my name on the cover of the magazine  How cool is that!)

And finally, Guy was trolling the net and found this article in Forbes about Top Female E-book Authors from way back in March, it looks like.  Not only am I in the top 20, (third if you only look at sales written by females) but dude, I got an entire paragraph!  (big smile)

Lastly, I’m still taking photos of the Cincinnati fountain and of Hollows Gazette reporters Winifred Gradenko and Devin Crossman until Monday noon.  This is your last chance to be included in the HOLLOWS INSIDER, so don’t be shy.  I’m sorry to see the contest end, but deadlines approach.  For rules, exactly what I’m looking for, and how to enter, head to the website.

    Good Morning Kim,

I hope you had a fantastic weekend! Wow…lots of news for you at the end of the week, that’s fantastic! Forbes! Wow! Congrats 🙂

    • Thanks, Jenn. It’s always good to see news like that. 🙂

I had kind of a blah weekend. It was too cold to really enjoy being outside unless you were working to keep warm, and I didn’t have enough to do, so I spent the weekend baking. (which was not a bad option)

Well, I think the author of the Forbes article is not only poorly researched, but also somewhat snarky. Obviously reading for pleasure is not her favorite pastime. I find it interesting that there’s no mention of Maeve Binchey, but perhaps she is technically UK author, although some of her work is also now published here in the U.S.

Forgot to mention that I think 1 or more titles published every year for many years is extremely prolific.

    • Definitely snarky, yes, but it doesn’t bother me. She hasn’t read anything I’ve written, so I’m not about to take her words to heart.

Wow, what an eclectic mix of genres. I have many of those on my Kindle, I love the mix of Immortal Life of Henriette Lacks (her cells are used in several of my labs), The Lovely Bones (hard read, and can’t do it again, and of course, DWW.

Whoever wrote this article has two problems. She has a problem with prolific authors, and I don’t think a single one of us thinks you WRITE ENOUGH! One Rachel book a year, and three Madison’s is not prolific!

Congratulations on your continued sales success! Wonder what PD is going to do with next year’s list?

    • Isn’t it, Mud? I like seeing variety like that in those all-encompassing lists. The author of this article does have one book published and may be coming to grips that writing a book is easy compared to writing another, and another, and another. Shrug. It’s not an easy profession.

  4. I saw the Forbes article too. Great stuff for you!

I have 2 old postcards of Fountain Square – once I figure out to scan them to you I will – one postcard is very very old…and pretty cool too…..

    • I would be happy to see the, Denise, but I can’t enter them in the contest. The photos have to be ones that you take yourself, otherwise we run into copyright infringements. But I would like to see them!

Fabulous news! 😉 I have to hit Borders tonight (somehow between jobs) and I will be sure to check the magazine section for this!

The paragraph on you in the Forbes article is great…”annoyingly prolific”….NICE!

I have turned a couple people on to the Hollows series, but I have turned WAY too many into “crapping on toast”. I have so many people saying it now that have no clue where it came from, just that they liked it when they heard me say it and now can’t stop! Cracks me up! Maybe we should start doing a Jenks Word of The Day blog….

Well we all know you are awsome. So now Forbes thinks so too, cool. Have a great weekend and don’t get sunburned.

    • Thanks, Marsha! Oh, no sunburn here this weekend. It never got much above 60. Too cold unless you were working in the yard, and our yard is finally starting to look nice!

    Happy Friday ma’am,

I know you don’t have any control over this new page style but it is really playing havoc with me. No need to apologise or anything, I know it’s not your fault. I’ll manage. 😉

The winning pic was really great. The amount of work that went into making all of the posters and charts was amazing.

The cameo I mentioned was in chapter 29. I highlighted it on my Kindle. In the scene, Jolivia, has entered the comic book store and this is one of the reactions,

“Li made up for Carl’s indifference by dropping the Kim Harrison graphic novel she’d been reading, and….”

There you have it. She also has a character named Harrison but you know about that right? There is just over 30 days until we have BLOOD WORK in our hands. Very very exciting!

    Have a great weekend,
    V^^^^V

    • Oh wow, I preordered forever ago and I forgot that it was coming out that soon! Yay!!!

    • Hi Vampy. Yup, the new comment box surprised me, too. I’m not liking it all that much, but it does get the job done, and it seems the page is loading faster after I hit the post button.

Oh, I didn’t know about the cameo! Now I’ve got to go look. -grin-

Hope you had a great weekend!

Congrats on making the Forbes list! So happy for you! She made me laugh when she compared how your write to most people making to do lists. Hope you have a great weekend with your family.

    • Kinda made me laugh, too, Nancy. 😉 And thank you! It’s always good to see a positive show of your achievements.

Hope you had a great weekend!

  10. Wow everyone did such a good job with all the pictures! I can’t wait to see the book!

Ah!! The reply box is new… Strange. But cool!

I’m hoping to get the last two photos in for the contest. I’ve had so much fun taking photos and making signs. I’m keeping my Kalamack for Mayor poster!
I just can’t wait for the Hollows Insider to be done!

I finished my plot outline, and I’m trying one your techniques and writing the dialogue first. It’s going pretty well, but I think I’m going to be adding more dialogue in. It will be interesting to see if it works for me. I also stole your character chart. 😀 Between advice from you and creative writing classes I’ll have a chart, or technique for any situation! Anything to actually get it done!

    • Yes, the comment box changed. Nothing I did, but the page does seem to load faster than before after you hit the post comment.

That’s great that you are moving forward with your work and trying one of my techniques! I hope it works for you. My techniques are constantly changing, but the dialog and the character chart have remained fairly stable. Good luck!
