Happy Book Birthday, The Undead Pool!

It’s the last Tuesday in February, so you know what that means. It’s time to leave the cold and snow for a while, and find your way to the Hollows where it is sunny and warm with a chance of misfiring magic. Β The Undead Pool is officially on the shelves!

TUPhcCoverI’ll be in Ann Arbor tonight, kicking off the tour with our first event at Nicola’s. It looks like we’re going to have clear weather, and I can’t wait to get out of this house, I’m so stir crazy from all this snow! (laugh) Nicola’s is where all those signed, personalized first-edition copies of The Undead Pool have been coming from. It’s not too late to get in on this as, but I’m getting on a plane in the morning and heading to Cincinnati, so any more personalizations after tonight will have to wait until I get back. [ How to order from Nicola’s ]

I had so much fun with the read-along that I extended it into The Undead Pool. It has already started, and spoilers should be clearly marked. They’re really good about that over there. I won’t be making an “ask-me” page this year, but I might start an “ask-me” thread on the Goodreads site. [The Undead Pool/Goodreads chat threads ]

Speaking of asking me questions . . . I am doing an AMA (ask me anything) over at Reddit this morning from 9-11, EST. I will be typing my little fingers off for two hours, so come on over and take part of the threaded conversations. Here’s the link to get you there, but the conversation won’t start until 9:00 am, EST. [Reddit AMA] Ask me about my work schedule, the writing craft, or even what I like to do in my spare time. It’s . Β . Ask Me Anything!

And finally, if you’re waiting for your copy to arrive, I’ve got a nice non-spoiler interview that just popped up at USA today. πŸ™‚ Happy Ever AfterΒ

I know it’s early, but any ideas on what the theme is on the last novel? I loveddddddd Undead Pool and I am thrilled with how things are going (not going to spoil it for those who haven’t read or finished it yet), however a lot of loose ends were cleaned up which seems like cut off story lines or making them less prominent. So I’m ansy!!!

I really, really love these books… I’ve been reading them for a couple years now- when I needed a series to read while waiting for Cold Days by Jim butcher, and loved it from the start. But I was wondering what the ex

Kim – I couldn’t put the book down. I loved it! I’ve read and re-read parts and I’ve only had it for 2 days. This was really special. So many sweet moments. πŸ™‚

I just finished the book and was wondering if you have an idea on when the next one will be out?

    • Hahahaha! Good one, Paul. That’s exactly what I’ll want to know the day after mine gets here.

    • SquidgeWA (aka JKH)

Approximately a year, guys. That’s the pattern. And the “next” one after Undead Pool will be the LAST Hollows book.

    • Yes Squidge, thanks—I think we both knew that though—Paul was being silly, I’m sure. That’s why all my Hahahaing! Waiting all that time with baited breath and then finishing it on the day it comes out is a ripe situation for sarcasm.

Indeed that was part of the reason for my reaction though the fact that i came across the Hollows books relatively recently I was also truly not sure of the average time between book releases in this context was

I took a vacation day since I knew the book was coming out. I just finished and it was well worth the wait. You delivered a book that at times had me laughing and crying. While parts made me sad, ( won’t mention because I don’t want to spoil anything) overall let left me in a happy place. I can’t wait for the next one.

Just home and out of the twenty degrees weather here in MO. Ready to settle in wearing my tour tee with Kindle in hand. Ahhhhh! Wanted to take a selfie at Walmart today holding the hardback next to my tee, but alas my horrified teenager was about to expire from the embarrassment so I gave up on the idea. Safe travels! πŸ™‚

I am exercising Ivy-like control right now, as I have to wait until this afternoon to read it. I could technically read it now, but ignoring my students is usually frowned upon.

I’m so upset! The last book I pre-ordered and it came in the mail the day it was released. This book JUST shipped this morning. I was so looking forward to it this morning. I lost my job yesterday so I was looking for something great to happen and then my copy didn’t come. Blarg. So I was thinking about ordering it for my Kindle so I could go ahead and read it. lol

Hi That is one of the reasons I havs had a Kindle for the last few years .(besides I can’t see too well) you want a book, you have it. And I order stuff in advance. Of course, I don’t have a job, too old.

    • SquidgeWA (aka JKH)

Well, I’m amazed that our dear Captain Jim surfaced from reading UP long enough to respond. Go ahead and get the Kindle version, Heather, you won’t regret it!

    • heartofheather

Oh, I did! lol I couldn’t wait to read the book. Then the book actually came in the mail today, but I am so impatient.

  10. I have ZERO will power…I caved and finally read the first 5 chapters…DAMN!!! I wanted to wait till I got my hands on the book at the signing in Boston, but after reading all the Q&A at Reddit this morning, I succumbed to the craving for just a little taste. Now….I must just bask and dwell on that “moment” where itleft off for a whole week!!! I am excited though, this will be my first signing with you on a Tour and NOT at NYCC….AND my first opportunity to be in the Family Photo since I got my Tour T!!! YAY!!!!!

What a wonderful surprise to find an email telling me that at 15 min after midnight my kindle ed of The Undead Pool had arrived!!!

So excited!!! This is a wonderful early B’day gift to myself!!!

Thank you so much for the read-along–it helped me through some difficult times (WV Water contamination). Have a safe trip and I hope some day to be at a book signing!

  12. Have the book and about to start the all-day-reading πŸ™‚

I’ve lost all respect for BaM…. I didn’t pre-order the book, only because I’m going to the signing on Friday and I wanted to read it ASAP and not wait for it in the mail days later. I woke up this morning bouncing, ready to buy it. I went to my local BaM…and they don’t have it. They didn’t sell out, they just aren’t getting it until tomorrow… Disappointing I called all the BaMs in a 50 mile radius. No one has it. None of them are coming until tomorrow or later this week. So I called BN. They have it, all of the ones in the 50 mile radius has it. I’d gladly go get one, but all they have are signed copies. I don’t want a signed one if I’m going to her signing already. I’m not going to buy it on an e-reader either since I don’t have one. Now I’ve had my hopes crashed, and I’ve wasted a -whole day- not being able to read it. Not to mention however long it will take for their shipments to get in. Happy reading to those who do get it today, but be warned with BaM… Call before you waste the trip up there.

That sucks. If you haven’t already read them, the first 5 chapters are still up. Another route is the kindle or Nook app for your phone or computer. It’s free and they let you download a free preview, usually about 20% of the book. Last ditch effort, call Walmart, they might have it.

Hi Ms. Kim The snow is falling here, but I unfortunately have to struggle through it to exercise class. I told the ladies running it that they could just mark me down a IMSM (Incredibly Muscular Specimen of Manhood, but they both collapsed laughing, so I guess I’ll have to go. I can’t spell either, maybe exercise will help that too. The only reason I’m going is that I’m falling again(Twice in Jan, once so far this month. I’d really be much happier just reading The Undead Pool, but I gotta do something about this leg again.

    • SquidgeWA (aka JKH)

Da*n! Sorry to hear about the falls. I’ve had a couple of incidents, too, and I haven’t logged the history you have. Once we have a “neuro incident” it seems like we have to keep on doing our therapy or all our hard-earned restoration evaporates. Anyway, after you do your exercises, and after your furry ladies permit you to settle down to your own activities, you can read. I am on a reserve list at the library, and it will be a while ….

  15. Can’t wait! I pick up my book tonight for the signing. Have a great tour!

  16. It’s a very snowy day here in DC and I have a message that my copy has shipped!! I wish it was here now so I could curl up and disappear into the Hollows! Killer anticipation! Congrats Kim! Happy Birthday ‘The Undead Pool’!

  17. WOO! My pre-ordered audio book just became available in my audible library! *downloads it SO fast* I cannot WAIT. I cannot wait! I am so happy and excited I’m bouncing in my chair and grinning like a loon. Is it lunch time yet? Is it? I want to start already… but I’ll be good. I will. I will. MMnnghhklhkhkhkhdddd….! I will. ;D I love anticipation anyway. Thank you so much for making my day, Kim, and for all the enjoyment and awesomeness I know lies tantalizingly just ahead of me. πŸ™‚

  18. Can’t wait for my Undead Pool to arrive! I was behind on the read along and just started Pale Demon yesterday. Wonder if I can hold out to read through it, A Perfect Blood, and Ever After before starting Undead Pool….

  19. OK, so I have never been on Reddit before, so I clicked the link and signed up, I see Kim’s AMA listed in the calendar, but can’t seem to find it. I have no idea what I am doing…can anyone help???

  20. Vampyre

I was thinking of making this one last. I’ll just read a chapter a week. I’m already a month a head of schedule. πŸ™‚

  21. Daniel Harkavy

Just downloaded mine from Barnes and Noble!

  22. Mendi in STL

Heyde Hey! Happy Release Day!! Looking forward to reconnecting with some old friends today. πŸ˜‰

  23. Brenda M

My book has arrived! My oh-so-awesome son pre ordered it for me as a Christmas present.

I refrained from reading the chapters you released, so reading this gem is on the top of my to-do list today.

    Thank you and safe travels.

  24. Kelley

Congratulations Kim – Can’t wait to lose myself in your story, really looking forward to it! I hope I get to see you in Saratoga Spring!
