Labor Day

I’ll be taking Monday off from the drama box due to labor day.  For those of you not in the US, it is a holiday decreed simply for the enjoyment of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, and hopefully, somemores.  A time to get to the beach, lake, golf course, or just your back yard or neighborhood park and enjoy one last fling of summer.  My macaroni salad is already made.  I’ve been tweaking the recipe for a few years, and now it’s more of a sweet cherry, cranberry salad made with yogurt instead of mayo.  Yummy.  I’m going to try to get to the ren faire, but we’ll see.  I like puttsing around my yard a lot.  Always something to do there.

It’s going to be hard to keep sitting at my desk this afternoon . . .   I do so like my time off.  🙂

Keep it safe this weekend.  Seriously.  Take the extra time to keep them safe.

  1. Howdy ma’am,

As you can see by the time stamp. it’s about 5:40 now. I’ve been up all night watching movies. my eyes aren’t very good when I’m well rested. At this moment Mr. Magoo sees better than me.

It’s about time to hit the sack. I decided to check the Drama Box one more time using my phone. The touch screen is a finger print magnet so I wiped it down first.

While reading the posts, I saw these small dark spots scrolling with the text. My first thought was something was really wrong with my phone. I was about to panic. Then I realized what the tiny spots were. 🙂 Yep, smileys.

Vampy, you silly man, stop playing with your new toy and get to bed. You’ll be useless. I for one wouldn’t want you near me if you can’t see straight. I like my vampires to be clear-eyed and steady-handed. I most certainly did not enjoy the THREE stabs it took the nurse to find a vein when I was recently hospitalized–and then the vein blew in less than 24 hours!

    • Vampy, you’re worse than Guy in watching movies into the next day. 🙂

Have a good day off, Kim! I have been a little out of the loop lately and am playing catch up…have you released the name of book 10 yet?

  3. Mmmm… that sounds yummy. Can’t wait for your next publication (happy sigh).

I’m going to miss my writing workshop (silly grin). Now I’m staring at 5 shorts, 2 novellas and 3 “finished” manuscripts going “Hmmmm… Time to re-write ’em – AGAIN” (LOL).

Are writers ever satisfied? Seriously… I’m trying to get the hang of this “be happy you actually finished your homework and have scripts” mentality. Why am I not happy about this?

All I can think about is the fact that IT could be better (eyes rolling, long melodramatic sigh).

My fab editor in Wis is expecting the re-writes to end and be on her desk the last day of Dec because I’m up on the author deck Jan 2012. How scary is that? VERY! (LOL)

Can you say nervous-nervous-nervous-nervous-nervous? I have not written a blog post in days, have 7 more author tribute tracks and a lullaby to finish so it’s going to be a blogging music marathon holiday for me once I fill my backpack and grab some toys. Gonna go compose beach side and BBQ after brunch. May actually post something interesting later on Facebook if I can squeeze in a studio session (evil grin). 😉

Wishing everyone a lovely holiday! Enjoy your week end.

  4. Happy Labor Day. Share your recipe. Brenda Kahn

Hi Ms. Kim its jim from warren. If you try all these recepties you’ll have the energy to finish loads more books!.Either that or gain weight,(Thing 2 looks like he could use a few pounds)

Wishing everyone, of course including Kim & fam, a very happy 3-day weekend. That fruit salad sounds really unique! Jim-from-Warren, that slaw dressing sounds unusual. I’ll bet it has sugar in it, which makes it so delectable. Ours will be quiet, since my dad (95 yrs) is sort of on a downward slide. I may stir up the family’s Club Salad, which features teeny macaroni and either crab or shrimp — plus lots of other goodies.

  7. I’ve never tried a pasta salad that had sweet things in it. How do you dress it, with a fruit based dressing? Mine tends to be very tangy with olives, garbanzo beans, cherrie tomatoes, whatever is fresh and looks good. A good Italian dressing and grated asiago cheese top it off. I’ll have to try your recipe some time. Have a great weekend. I hope the weather holds for you.

    • I used a heavy yogurt, Marsha. I might put the recipe up later this week. Ohhh, it got cold! Not a lot of rain, though, so it could have been worse.

Hope you had a great weekend, too!

  8. Have a great Holiday Kim and thank you so very much for refering me to that previous post. It was very helpful and gave me a great insight. I have been righting for probably about 17 years now and have had several finished manuscripts but none that I felt were good enough to get published but I really enjoy writing I often alienate my fiance. I hope to soon be a great author like you please keep up the amazing work.

Hello Kim…First off, I just finished ‘Blood Work’ and loved it..of course! I heard a song the other day and after reading your post about ‘darker’ music (great Foo Fighters song). Right now Rolling Stones has a free download of Chuck Ragan’s ‘You Get What You Give’….awesome song, I think you might like it:)

  10. Labor Day has always been for me a bittersweet holiday. On the one hand it signals the end of summer and then end of playing in the pool. 😉 On the other hand, I’m teetering on being ready for fall and the cool crisp days that make the world around me light up with color before it fades to hide for the winter.
Labor Day is also the biggest weekend in this area for the Arts & Craft type fairs. The Blueberry Fest is in a wonderfully wooded area of Plymouth, In. There is food, entertainment and of course arts/crafts for acres and acres. I hope we get to squeeze it in this year. 🙂
Kim, I hope you and your family (and the extended family here on the blog) have a safe, relaxing and enjoyable weekend. 😀

Hi! I’ll be working Sat. and Sunday and M. Day Monday all overtime. Then I’ll be Teaching a make up class tuesday evening for Summer semester after work. Then a NEW never taught class by me before at a different school Wed evening. And The begining of the first Fall semester class at the first school on Thursday evening! Cool being popular, huh? Of course this is Nothing in comparison to being a Mother. Enjoy your rest. Put your Sig. Other to work prepping M. Day barbeque. BTW… I AM dragging myself to the Maryland State Faire with some friends after work. JOY! I get to see a COW BIRTHIN before nappy time!(I’ll send some pics…) Yours in space and time…, 😉 zzzzz…. Tim

That’s a lot to cram into the next week. I hope things level out soon.

    • tim collins

BTW… Time my friends showed at the faire I was out of gas and was tottering to my car. The faire which has always been a old favorate has deteriorated into a money making machine. I got my usual 5 lbs of raw honey and left. As for your mouth watering recipes, in all fairness you should either invite us all to your place for a back yard party, or write a cook book. Have fun one and all…Zzzzzzzzzz….Tim

    • Sounds like you had a busy weekend, Tim. 🙂

  12. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend. I’m trying a new mac salad and blueberry ice cream pie recipe for our family get together. If our weather holds for open windows I see painting my bedroom in my future too. I would love to see Trent doing something domestic and messy like painting. Or gardening. Or cooking. Or sleeping. Or . . . he** just about anything. 😉

    • Me too, Robin. I think with this new page-time, we just might. I’m seeing him in the garden, not the gentleman gardener, but the down and dirty gardener with dirt on his nose that Rachel needs to wipe off. (grin)

Hi Ms. Kim-Its Jim from Warren. Have a lovely weekend with Guy and thing 1 and thing 2,Some time (not now) try making your potato salad with equal parts mayo and marzetti’s slaw dressing and add pickle relish to taste and 2 teaspoons of mustard. And heavy on the hard-boiled egg,That sauce goes well on macaroni too,(or any pasta) if you add 1/2 up to 1 cup of chopped ham to it.There! One of my best cooking secrets Naked To The World! Ravished! (Smudge and Quigly are already threatening retaliation)

  14. Well i hope you have a good holiday… any chance you want to share the recipe? hint hint… lol…..

    • Thanks! I hope you do, too! You’re not the only one to ask about the recipe. Look for it tomorrow, unless something more exciting happens. I’m really liking it because it’s got so many fewer calories and fat than the recipe it came from.

  15. Dawn

    Have a great holiday Kim.
