Traveling to Charlottesville, VA

I’m traveling today, so the post will be short.  If you are in the area, I’ll be doing a panel tonight at 6:00, at the Festival of the Book.  There’s a B&N signing the next morning at ten.  More at the website! Hope to see some of you there!

    Hi Kim,

You left your camera in the escort’s car? Aw man, I hope it gets back to you soon! I hope your weekend was energizing and fun – even though I’m sure plenty of rejuvinating “cave time” is in order.

My weekend was fun. It was my newphew’s 5th birthday and we went and played laser tag for his party. Haha – it was about 8 adults being ambushed by 25 five year olds :-). LOL – It was fun.

Okay – got a question for you. Beta the fish is taken into the ever after to be like a canary in a coal mine. Just wondering if it is related that Pierce smells like coal?

    Have a great day!

    • Hi, Tiffany.
Yep. Left it in the car. Realized it immediately, but my escort didn’t have a cell phone, so it took six hours to get a hold of them, and by that time, I was at the airport. Not doing that again.

Sounds like you had a great weekend.

Mmmm, Mr. Fish the canary . . . There is no tie to Pierce’s scent, no. Sorry, but good thinking.

  2. (belive it or not) Rachel Morgan

Hello! My name is Rachel Morgan… Im 13 and i live in St. Louis. I have a really weird story to tell… I was typing my name into Google to see what comes up… and I had no clue that theres a book series with my name as the main character!!!!! I was amazed. I’m currently reading a biography about Beethoven (boring) and the Vladimir Tod series by Heather Brewer (awesome) , but as soon as I’m done, I will for sure read this series!

  3. Hmm. This was closed when I tried to comment on Sunday. lol, obviously management is back in place.
I’m not sure what to say to you today Ms. Harrison, lol. I’m still reading strong (after a brief delay) and I’m past page 254… Woman. You’re a tease. I’m not sure whether to hug you or give you a good clout behind the head for raising my hope. 😉
Lots of action in this book. 🙂

I hope you had a good weekend!

True story — my wife was behind a custom pickup truck (down here in Flori-DUH) and on the tail-gate, tastefully done by a professional, was the following: “My ex-wife’s car is a Broom” — I thought immediately that perhaps that truck (which had Ontario tags) was perhaps owned by Nick!

  5. In response to the planning comment, I think I have a bit of Ivy in me too. I plan a lot but I keep it all in post-it notes or independant paragraphs so it’s easy to juggle this around.

I hope you have a nice time travelling and meeting fans.

For your information, I started a How I Write project on my blog, inspired from your own series about your writing process. Some of my readers showed interest for that so I did it. 😉
Since I also teach interactive storytelling (or how to tell stories in games) and that my work involve a lot of “task-oriented/full of constraints” creativity, I thought I would give a few tricks to deal with blank page and the likes.
Thanks for giving me the idea!

Me Be REALLY good at giving glomps!!!!

Happy Equinox!! Beautiful day coming in NJ

  8. Stef from Germany

How i wish to live in the US.. so i would be able to visit one of your signings. ^^ No such luck.
But.. BMS inspired me to draw some fanart for the book. 🙂 (Pierce and Al) It’s at my DA.. :

By the way, I have to say I think Trent has potential. He’s definitely mellowed a bit due to Rachel’s influence. We’ll just have to see where all this goes, although I have my suspicions. He is an Elf, after all, & Elves have a different world view and a different set of morals than other species. Yes, he’s incredibly arrogant, but I think the birth of Ceri’s child may have a huge impact on him and Quen in many ways, now that they have a chance to believe the Elven race may not die out. But we’ll have to wait and see…

I just wanted to say I cried when [edited for content] I haven’t cried over a book since the ending of “The Return of the King”.” Will [edit] finds someone new?

    • Thank you, Kate. I’m so glad you liked it. Sorry about the tears, but that’s the way it happened. As for your last question? I don’t know . . .

  11. SeattleRobin

I just read your post from yesterday about how the editing is going. I’m glad it’s all working out for the better! I’m a Trent hater. My series re-read has made me despise him that much more again. (I think I’d been getting a bit soft. But the re-read took care of that!) So anything where Trent botches magic should amuse me to no end. (grin)

I’m in the middle of WWBC right now. ODW convinced me again that I’m just as glad Marshall is out of the picture. He’s a nice enough guy, but holy cow is he presumptuous in a way that really ticks me off. I’ve known people like that in RL. There are a couple places where he’s basically telling Rachel what to do or is assuming things, or inserting himself into things (like going to her mom’s?!) and he’s only ever seen Rachel a couple times in his entire life!! Who in heck does he think he is? So yeah…good riddance….

    • HI, Robin. Mmmm, it’s coming together, yes, but what it’s going to look like when I’m done, I don’t yet know.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the rereads! Thanks!

Ms Kim: a little FYI: Seattle Public Library system bought 18 — that’s EIGHTEEN — copies of Black Magic Sanction. I don’t think they’ve bought that many copies of any sf/f title…

  13. Phil

I will try to exhibit self-control and not glomp you if I ever get to meet you, but I will be on cloud nine. I’m actually on cloud nine when I’m reading BMS. 🙂 Safe travels and have fun!

Have a lovely time! I just took 60 preteens through my greenhouses and managed to dump a box of orchid books on someone today.

Do you know when the YA tour locales are going to be released?

In the TMI category for my fellow … hey, are we ALL NaSty or do we have a name for the odd and sundry group that bother Kim daily here?

Elimination diet, which leaves me yams for snacks.
I guess if I’m not eating I can read more. I’m already done with Faith Hunter, listening to Diana Gabaldon, reading the Graveyard book, and need to catch up with the NaSty ones. But anyone have other favorites I can take a bite into?

    • Antonio Rich

      Hey M–

A few recent books on my “highly reccomended” list:

      Soulless by Gail Carriger
On The Edge by Ilona Andrews
      Stormborn by Richelle Mead

      B Good 🙂

    • mudepoz

Thanks Antonio! I’ve heard good things about Ilona. I’ll check her out. *Off to work and Library*

    • Chris

      Hey Mud:
I hope things are progressing ok for you and you are getting better(believe me 2 1/2 years after THE FALL I’m still trying to get back to normal–just take one day at a time and notice the beauty of life around us). You asked about some favs? I am into Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series and Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series(added bonus to us former residents of the state of Washington–it is set in the Tri-Cities).
      I hope this helps.

    • mudepoz

I forgot about Jim Butcher. I actually think I have a book I haven’t read of his. THANKS!

    • Chris

Just released latest Dresden novel this week.

    • Unless you have another name in mind, I think we could safely say that the odd and sundry bunch bothering Kim on a daily basis are all NaStys 😉 NaSty is inclusive – an open circle… Hey let’s talk mobius strips!

    • Kylie Ru

Not wishing to offend anybody, but if ALL of us are NaSties, then I have to draw chibis for EVERYBODY!

    • Chelikins

I think we are all NaStys! 😉

    • Marsha

You have even more sympathy from me Mud. I have been fighting headaches and fatigue lately and my doctor wants to see if it is a food allergy. I’m currently of all processed foods and caffeine for a few weeks. Seems to have made the headaches much worse in my oppinion, but she says that is just withdrawl. I hope you are feeling better. I second the Storm Born and Thorn Queen books by Richelle Mead. I love the character Eugenie. Unfortunately we have to wait until 2011 for another one while she finishes up her YA Vampire Academy series.

    • Hi, Mud. sounds like you had a fabulous day with the kids. 😉 I should have the YA cities soon. It’s only a few months away!

  15. Kathy Ritchie

I don’t think I will make Friday night but Saturday, now I CAN do that! Hope to get my book signed!!!

  16. Geoff

Too bad you never make it up here… *sniff*

  17. Marsha

Enjoy! I am looking forward to seeing new photos and videos. They are so much fun for those of us who can’t make it to the singnings.

    • I hope I have them for you, Marsha. I left my camera in car of my escort, and since they don’t have a cell phone, I wasn’t able to get it before I left. So who knows when I’ll get my bunny cam back. I’m so ticked at myself right now, I could just fart fairies.

    • LOL – You make me laugh 🙂 Hope you get your camera back soon!

  18. Tina ~ WI

Have fun and post lots of pics!

  19. Chris

I was SO planning on hopping in the 13 year old battered blue Windstar and making the trek to Verginnie manana!!! BUT…I hafta work the AM shift at the radio station(pouting ensues). Safe travels and post lots of pics please.

    • Okay – so here goes my first guess at your gravitar… is it a beaver or an otter walking on snow? Oooh – or a mink!?!

    • Chris

A very good first guess Tiffany but not quite. Granted, it is a little small to make out all the parts but it is quite the unique things.

    • Antonio Rich

Tiff–My highschool mascot was a Beaver…We were the “Battling Beavers of Beavercreek!”

…I wish I was joking about that, but I’m not.

    • Hmmm – I’ll have to come up with another guess then Chris… 🙂

LOL Tony! I really hope you have a t-shirt of a beaver fight to show for something that awesome 😉

    • Kylie Ru

      It’s a platypus.

    • Chelikins

That is what I am thinking too 😉

    • Chris

You are awesomesauce Kylie-san…my daughter was doodling an animal in science class per the teacher and this is what resulted. The actual pic looks like it should be in one of those illustrated marsupial books. Good guess Chelikins. I wish I had prizes to give to you.
On another subject I would be HONORED to be considered a NaSty–what kind of intiation do I have to go through???

    • Initiation? Hum… *evil grin*

NaStys are initialy those of us of partake in Antonio’s National Story of Romance Month in February. We have a bunch of stories that resulted from that.
      They are compiled here:

On that page, you’ll also find the link to our blog. This is where we hang around a lot. There are HEA clubs, a bookclub for BMS and general discussion pages.

So here’s your initation: find your way to our awesome lair! *grin*

    • Oh, that’s to bad, Chris. Maybe next time. It was a good panel.

  20. Have fun with your fans! I think if I ever saw you, I’d have to glomp you. Oh! I got PROM NIGHTS about a week ago. Read Madison first. Loved it! Now I have to buy the big books.

*happy dance* Big chunk of Al and the everafter in the next book! I’m so excited, Kim-san! Here is a virtual glomp until I can give you a real one. *glomp!*

  21. Antonio Rich

“Have fun storming the castle!” (The Princess Bride) 😉

Safe travels & go get ’em!!
