Looking into my crystal ball . . .

As some of you might know, publishers and booksellers are privy to the book lists a week before they are published, and Wednesday is traditionally the day where you find out if you’ve  hit on the New York Times and USA Today.

I got the call last night, that BLACK MAGIC SANCTION did extremely well, and managed to snag the much coveted number three spot on the New York Times, and a fabulous 21 spot on USA Today. (USA Today is a combined list of mass markets, trade, hard cover, fiction, and non fiction, whereas the NYT separates them.)

Thank you, guys.  Much of this is you running out and getting your copy in that first week.  Thank you, very much.  The Hollows Rocks!

Happy to hear you landed such a high spot with BMS you certainly deserve it. I had it preordered but had to wait till today to get it into my greedy lil hands because I had my mom put the preorder in for me and she used her name instead of mine so they held it hostage till she could come and get it 😦

I’ll start reading it soon as I finish this and despite the fact that I will tell myself to take it slow I know I’ll end up plowing through it like I have the previous books in the series.

Oh and as a bonus bit of ego boosting for you my mom also commented that its a very nice picture of you on the back of the dust jacket and that you’re quite pretty 🙂

    • Thank you, Scott. 🙂 I’m glad you finally got your book. Enjoy! This is one of my faves. And tell your mother thank you. I don’t normally look that nice. I made the effort that day. -laugh-

I love the series. I do have one complaint…..why do we have to wait so long for the next one? i got Black magic Sanction and finished it in less than two days, grr! I even told myself to take it slow so it would last….. Oh well, I love the Hollows. I love the continuous story web you created. You are my favorite author of all time! Truly a genius! Congrats on the booksellers list but then again it is where you belong.

  3. Congratulations, Kim!!! Yay! You rock! 😉

  4. Jason

That’s awesome! I cheated and pre-ordered my copy through Borders. Sadly, I finished it in less than 24 hours. An awesome read! It definitely deserves to be high up on the list.

Congrats Kim!! It’s so good to see that the Hollows is alive and doing well with each release. Means more to come!

  8. suzannelazear

YAY! That is super fantabulous!! Mega congratulations. Still fighting with B&N to get my *preordered* book. Sigh. But I did have a fab second round interview with the Philharmonic. I’ll hear next week if I make round three (I feel like I’m on american idol, lol)

    Woot, congrats! 🙂
Page 35 now. Taking my sweet time and loving it.

Congrats! that is exciting news and I agree with Mud…and the clean sheets…I’m ready to go back to bed with a new Hollows book…ahh the long wait, but so worth it.

  11. Proudfit

    Yeah Kim

  12. Hey Ms. Harrison,
Congratulations!! And, after only a week! that’s just great. 😀 *laughs* I hope your chuffed with yourself. 🙂
I’ve read the first 7 chapters and if they are a taste of what is to come I’m in for a wonderfully bumpy ride.
And, you’re right about paying it forward. 🙂 (have you seen the movie? Pay it forward? Very good! Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Hailey Joel Osmond) I sometimes feel as if we live in this terribly secluded world. Much like a demon summoning circle where people are looking at us from the outside and… well… Laughing. Then, something like this happens, like an unexpected cellphone call and you just touch base again with the better part of people. 🙂 It’s a blessing.
Have a great day and I hope that you’ll climb even further up the ladder!

    • Hi, Alyssa. I like your thoughts on living in seclusion. How often it does feel that way.

And thank you! I’m going to guess that this is as high as this title is going to go, but I’m digging in and hoping to stay on the list for a while. 😉

  13. Marsha

I haven’t had a chance to finish the book yet, about 3/4 through thanks to stealing bits of time here and there. Of course it’s wonderful. Congratulations on third place, maybe even going higher!

  14. *ding ding ding* I propose a toast!

To an incredibly talented author, and a wonderful person: Congratulations on the successful birth and release of your newest litter of bunnies! May they set little ‘fires’ everywhere they go! 😉

PS – I’m about half way though BMS and it’s great so far!! (…and luckily I managed to not read a few possible spoliers on here – did what I could to help others avoid it as well).

  15. Kristy

Congrats Kim!! That is great news!!

  16. Warning peeps!!!!!!

  17. No, thank you Kim. We really enjoy reading your books. My friends and I have a pure count down until your release day. LOL Then on release day, we run out and buy your book.

Well, most of us have finished BMS so, it’s time to start the count down again. (Sigh)

P.S. So pleased with Rachel’s progress:)

Congrats! I was going to have to check back Friday on their website to see. Saved me the hassle. 🙂

  19. Doyin

Just finished BMS today it arrived in the post 2 days ago(I’m in the uk) and I had to discipline myself not to finish it in one sitting!

It was sooo good. and the ending made me feel so wistful about leaving the hollows -sigh-

Well done about the lists, it’s incredibly well deserved. hope you get lots of rest after your tour :):)

Just finished B.M.S. yesturday and loved it. Looking forward to the next, but I’m worried about something.

Awhile back (after W.W.B.C.) I asked you if it was true that Al might be getting sweet on Rachel, and you replied that THAT would never happen! Okay, I live with a creative genius myself, so I understand FULLY how characters tend to yank the reins out of your hands and take over the stagecoach and run away with it!

Is Rachel’s continuing in-ability to invoke earth majic, and increasing willingness to twist curses(still taking all the smut on herself), mean that the enzimes in her system are making her more Demon?

And is the ability to shift realies via the lines, which I understand is an ELVEN trait, mean that she is both a little Demon and a little Elf? Could that be what
was meant “She’ll live forever”? She’s the living embodiment of a truse ‘tween Demons and Elves? Then her children WON’T be just Demons. She and her children are the begining of an entirly NEW spieces.

Am I on the wrong track?

  21. I’m sorry i’m not taking part in those lists. Still waiting for my book actually…

  22. Kim T

Was looking on the waterstones website and Black magic Sanction on the waterstones website, the ISBN doesnt match with the one on your site, and they are also saying thats it was released as The Outlaw Demon Wails in the US….im kinda confused.

    • Mmmm. I’d be confused, too. Black Magic Sanction should have the same title in the UK as the US. They only changed the title in the 6th book. It was THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS in the US, and WHERE DEMONS DARE in the UK. Hope that helps.

  23. Jenn

    Congrats Kim!!!!

You totally deserve it. We all know how much heart, time & effort you put into the hollows & we all appreciate it!

  24. Nikki Palun

Congrats!! I loved BMS and all the information we got I won’t say much so I don’t spoil for anyone else but thanks for another great book!

    • Thank you, Nikki. This one was a lot of fun for me to write.

    • Nikki Palun

We really enjoyed your book signing in Cincinnati, we had a blast with Jocelynn and meeting you! Thanks so much for your fan interaction you are a very remarkable and nice person.

  25. gsryley

WOW! # 3 with a bullet:-) on the NYT and #21on USA Today lists. CONGRATULATIONS! You should definitely get major hugs and lots of hoopla to celebrate. At the very least a happy dance:-)
BTW I did finish BMS last night, loved the book, loved the ending. Once again I’m stuck waiting another year for the next book;-) Congrats, again!

  26. Chelikins

Yea!!! You are fabulous and deserve it Kim!

  27. Hey Kim,

That’s awesome! You totally deserved it with this last book; it was absolutely amazing! There was so much action; it just bumped from one situation to the next, and I loved the Trent, Nick, and Al stuff. The Al books are always my fav; he just amps up the interest because he’s such a twistedly delightful character.

Just one request: please don’t make us wait another year until the next one! I need my next Rachel Fix now! Seriously, I’m getting the shakes.

Congratulations! Thanks for giving us such great stories to delve into.

  28. Congratulations!
Yet another successful book by the wonderful writer that you are! You deserve the praise!

So you heard my spoken/sung blog post! *blushing* I didn’t think you would. Again, it shows how good you are to us, fans.

And you have a nice voice, too! I listened to the Flypod interview and it’s great. You sound relaxed, passionate and glad to be who/where you are! Your voice has a nice energy to it and the laughter makes me smile every time. 😉

    Nicely done on all accounts!

  29. Antonio Rich

I saw the listing in the USAToday this morning, but I didn’t know about the NYT list…I was trying to chase down the NYT numbers “last” week, but I guess they hadn’t come out yet.

I really loved the book. I think, along w/#4 and #6, it’s my favorite!

  30. Vampyre

    Howdy ma;am,

Way to go! You keep this up and you will be famous some day! If Oprah get’s a hold of you look out!

Big Hug and congrats on a job well done. I am so very happy and proud of you! I hope Guy gave you breakfast in bed..or something. 🙂

    • Vampyre

I just listened to your KAFI interveiw, it was great. I am so glad you mentioned your family in there. Some of the people saw your son in a couple of my BMS pics I posted at Showgir’s and asked about him. I said I didn’t know. Now I can tell them! I can relax now. I think that is the last ‘secret’ I knew. 🙂

    • Thanks, Vamp. Something . . . Actually, I’m surrounded by flowers right now. Lovely . . .

And yup, the family is now outed.

  31. Dawn8226

    Congratulations. So happy for you.

  33. Kylie Ru

    Woot! That’s great, Kim-san! Okay, links . . .

  34. Congratulations, Kim!

But truly, it’s not surprising to me. You write a darn good story and the reading world knows it 😉

  35. Pumps arm up and down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    YES! *Hugs* *Squeeeeal*

Reading a book in a universe like yours and a few others, to me is like getting between sheets that have dried outside in the sun. There is no way to prevent the strange dreams that you might have sleeping, but sometimes you just don’t want to wake up.

I don’t want to crawl out from between the sheets of paper in BMS.
Although now my stomach is sore from the spoiler on the other page. Of all the things to…sigh. Sorry. Not your fault. Shouldn’t whine. I’m old enough to not whine.
OK, now, a real question that doesn’t even have a spoiler (EVIL EYE)

Beta/Betta. Is Mr. Fish a beta because he’s second in command? Is Betta spelled differently in the world of the Hollows? I noticed the same spelling in your bio on Facebook.

At least that didn’t kick me out of the book. I hate to get roused from a good dream because of poor science ;P. You do such a wonderful job as do the few authors you’ve recommended.

    • Jenn

Wow, Mud…very well put…I agree completely with your compliments….
As for looking at the spoiler page….lol…you should know better until you’ve finished the book…grin

    • mudepoz

Jenn, that was the problem. IT WASN’T on the spoiler page. I didn’t even read the released chapters because I do like to read and savor. This was like having your husband tell you he wants a divorce over the phone.

    • Jenn

poor Mud!!! In that case, you have my complete sympathy!

    • Marsha

I am avoiding that page like the plague! Thank you so much Tiffany! I avoided that one too thanks to you.

    • Hi, Mud.

-grin- Thanks. And I’m sorry about the spoiler. I didn’t get to it in time.

Mmm, I didn’t even realize the spelling was different. ha! And I hadn’t thought about the 2nd in command angle. It wasn’t intentional . . . Now I have to give it some thought.

    • Kim, THANK YOU. That way no one else gets caught.
I know what I wrote wasn’t nice. I get too emotionally invested in some of these characters. Bad Mud, bad. Reality/Fantasy.

Then again, it IS real for a time, isn’t it.

  36. Phil

I love lists! They are so invaluable when life is frenzied. Finding BMS on the best-seller list is so cool! No surprise though. 😉

  37. Yes, they rock! Even in Lower Saxony, Germany!
