Nothing to see here, citizens

Errrg.  It’s Thursday?  How did that happen?

I’m a little bewildered in that the week is almost over.  I didn’t get done what I wanted, but there’s two days left, and I’m very happy with what did come out of my printer yesterday.  Ahhhh, I think I’m going to coast into the weekend feeling good.  especially if there is a chance we might get some snow.  If it does, I’ll have pictures.  😉

Hi there, love the books as always, can’t wait for the next.

Kind of a strange question, but I was wondering if Ivy has a middle name, I can’t seem to recall if I’ve ever seen Al or another demon refer to her by her full name before.

Sorry for posting this again, I think I might have put it in the wrong place last time. >.>

    That English nutter Stu.

    • Antonio Rich

Stu. I don’t know if Kim will see this question now. So, to give you an answer – Alisha. Be Good.

    • Hi, Stu.

Yup, I answered you, but it was late, and it probably got lost in the shuffle. Antonio had a better answer than I did. (grin) Yes, her middle name is Alisha. 😉

    *Looks out front door*
Shoo! Shoo! Go away! There are people in SC that want you! Go south 2 feet of light fluffy white crap!

That sounds just like my week. Ugh. I wish you luck.

Well I don’t know if Tabrett Bethell was anywhere close to what you think Ivy looks/acts like…but I’d sooo like to see your books adapted. One of the many reasons is they have two+ strong female lead characters & there’s not enough of that in movies. Case in point, I just found out about something called the Bechdel Test which is a test used for movies:
    1. It has to have at least two women in it, 2. Who talk to each other, 3. About something besides a man. (Whereas you have Ivy & Rachel & Ceri & Newt etc. etc. talking about anything & everything almost).

Scarily many, many movies don’t meet this simple criteria. So we need more Kim Harrison’s in Holllywood for sure. And more action movies with ladies (that don’t suck). Here’s a site that lists movies that meet the criteria in case you or anybody else is interested…

I was pretty amazed that today was Thursday also. We have had snow here in Colorado pretty consistently since October. Given that I spent the last 10 years in Southwest Missouri, it’s still a bit of a shocker to see so much of the white stuff, AND it’s 9 degrees here! I keep telling my way-too-pretty husband that we need to follow the geese and move south where it’s warmer. I’m excited for your progress!

  5. I’m also surprised that the week is almost over… but I worked only 4 days this week so it’s quite normal I feel this way. Today was quite exciting though: I was teaching for the first time!

May be I can send over some snow! Here in Quebec, it is piling up. I had to shovel my way to my apartement a few times already. Hopefully, I won’t have to shovel my way out to grab my copy of WWBC.
I finally ordered the mass market version. I love to be able to carry my book around. I hate the waiting! Tough life. 😉

    • That’s wonderful, Aheila! Congratulations on teaching. 😉 Very cool on ordering the mass market. I like paperbacks, myself, but I can’t wait usually.

    • Thanks! I’m quite thrilled by the teaching opportunity and the class is really motivating. I gave them a choice between a project that fullfilled the requirements of the class and a project that will push them out of the confort zone to give them additional skills. They chose the daring path. Yeah future game writers!

And yeah, waiting for the paperback is excrutiating. I read some many wonderful comments about WWBC that it multiplies the longing. 😉

Ello Ms. Kim, just pre-ordered BMS for my self and my best friend. Shes going to be so excited its going to be a late bday gift for her. You can take some of the snow from Washington if you want. We got a lot the other day but its all turned to ice now. Kinda scary. ^ ^

    • Hi, Kera. Cool! (grin) Thank you for the pre-order. Tell your friend I said happy early birthday.

We tend to get ice here, if we get anything. Shuts the entire city down.

Kathleen: My daughter had a virus this past fall that went for the sinus, and gave her some ferocious vertigo. It just took several weeks to get over. For a while there she didn’t even dare drive, her vision was so wonky…hope it’s not so bad for you.
Frederique, honey, keep getting extra rest and plenty of fluids. Flu takes 10-14 days, that’s all there is to it.
Alyssa: When you get tired of dog-paddling, switch over to the back stroke. The objective is mainly to stay afloat, not to set olympic records. I suspect you’re gonna have a wonderful spring, getting all this drama out of the way already.
And I agree with whoever said snow is a 4-letter word. It’s fine out in the country, or in the mountains, but in hilly Seattle it turns directly to ICE and it’s sheer hell until it’s gone.

    • Frederique

Thanks Janis. It’s just hard when you want to get up and do things. I want to be at the gym and at the track training but I physically can’t right now and I hate it.

I hope your daughter is feeling better now.

    • Oooh, I hope your daughter is doing okay now.

  8. Cosalinda

Hi KH! My family is hoping for snow too! (Greenville, SC)

    NO SCHOOL!!! ; )

  9. Brooke

The weeks always see to fly by don’t they. Especially when you are on vacation. grrrr

  10. Marsha

You should be seeing some snow. We are getting some in Alabama right now. It looks like as usual they over estimated how much, but that way they can get everyone to rush to the grocery store and buy out the bread, milk and eggs!

  11. Phil

We had so much snow last month it makes me squirm just thinking ’bout it.
I think I will buy Faith’s new book and read ODTS. I don’t know how much my teen years resemble Madison’s, but I’m curious to find out how she deals.

  12. Kylie Ru

    It’s Ninja Thursday! That means we won’t have a Ninja Friday . . . .

I won’t get any snow. There isn’t even a chance for rain. That makes me sad.

    Have fun, Kim-san!

  13. Shannon

Hey Ms. Kim, I just wanted to say how much I really enjoy your books. I’m currently reading the Outlander books by Dianna Gabaldon and they are good, but they just aren’t sucking me in like yours do. I find myself thinking that I can’t wait to finish these so I can start on my fifth re-read of your books in anticipation to the next release. I think that really says something about your stories. I can’t wait to finish books that I have never read (slightly OCD so I just can’t stop in the middle) to pick up your books that I still really enjoy even after I’ve already read them four times.

So thank you for all that you do. Have a good one!

    • Phil

Are the Oulander books historical fantasy (I think that’s an actual sub-genre but not sure)?? I’ve seen Diana’s books but haven’t read any.

    • Shannon

Yes. They take place in the mid to late 1700s. If you are into Scotish and American history you will probably enjoy them.

    • I love the Outlander series. I keep pestering the Tall Dude to share what he knows of the time. His only complaint is that based on the current theory of relatively you cannot go forward in time, only back, then explained entropy and shattering a glass on film, then remaking coming forward.

Too much for my mind anyhow.
I did find, because the tomes are SOOO long, that the audiobooks are perfect for long drives. And that unbeknownst to me the originals were ABRIDGED. It’s like ripping the guts of the book out! Ugh. 2 hour books, where the new ones are 44 hours 🙂

    • I am also reading Gabaldon right now!
I do agree that the books are good but they don’t suck me in as much either. I think it’s because they are “heavy”. There is a lot of historical details that tend to weigh down the plot and the rhythm is fairly slow.
It does not by any mean make them bad books! The historical aspects are pertinent and well woven in. It just makes them harder to blaze through with a rush of passion, I guess. 😉
      I read them with moderation.

    • Shannon

      Yes that is it exactly.

    • Hi, Shannon. I’ve read some Diana Gabaldon, and she tells a great story. Sigh. 😉 But I’m glad you like the Hollows, too.

  14. I have gotten some things accomplished, like getting over a small hump at work, finding out that I have sinus infection which in turn is causing my vertigo. Gah. However, since I still have the vertigo my day is confusing and dizzy. So there are things that I can’t figure out, even when I actually probably could figure it out. I can’t wait to get rid of the vertigo!!

  15. Frederique

Here’s hoping you get your snow. I would love for it to snow here but I think it would cause a serious chaos. It’s not supposed to snow at the beaches in southern California 😉

Time does fly when you are being creative. Though this week has been excruciatingly slow for me but I think that’s due to the fact that I’m still recovering from the flu and I can’t go and do the things I need and want to do.

  16. Briana

We have so much snow in ny you can have some it makes driving a bitch grrrrrrrrr!

    • See, it’s posts like this, Briana that make me secreatly glad we didn’t get snow.

    • Briana

      Lol snow reeeeeally can be
beautiful….just not on the roads if winter was just snow on the trees and ground and not at all on the roads winter and I would
have a better relationship. Alas this isn’t the case so our relationship involves me trying to get a restraint order against mother nature…let’s just say we have had bad weather since then…I think shes mad at me. Oops lol

  17. You can have all the snow we’ve been getting! Since Christmas Eve we’ve gotten 24 inches. It hasn’t even had a chance to melt off before there was more! That may be normal for some places but I bet we haven’t had 24 inches in the last 5 years put together.

  18. Jenn

You think Thursday came slowly? I just can’t keep track of what day it is…lol…it’s the start of the month & I am working OT…so my days are all running together right now…sigh…

Snow? You want some? I got lots!!!!!

Hope you get accomplished what you want today….

    • Jamie

I live in Utah so if ya want snow you can have some of mine too.

    • Hi, Jenn. That’s kind of how I feel, like I’ve been working overtime, and my day is in the office from sun-up, to sun-down. But I got out yesterday, and realized it’s Thursday! Things are slowing back down to normal.

  19. Indy

Hi Kim!!! We are getting bunches of snow here. I think I am at about 3 inches and counting. I do love the pup’s new bling from yesterday’s post. We have a similar issue here. Gabby is a slow eatter, and Harley will eat all of her food and then just move on down to the next food bowl. So, Iris & I are on food patrol at dinner time.~Indy

    • Hi, Indy.

I’ve been working on Aleix and Xander not eating each other’s food, and now Xander will sit and watch Aleix finish her food. As long as I’m there watching, too.

  20. Nicole

    Hey there!

I live just outside of Columbia, SC and my whole family is clamoring for snow, too. We may see some flurries tonight!

Can’t wait for the new book. I love Rachel!

  21. Shanda

Hey Kim. It looks like you have been putting in your share of work given the last couple of posts you’ve made! Doesnt look like we’re getting any snow. A warm front came through overnight and eliminated our snow chances lol

On another note, what is your favorite snack while writing? I know I love Cashews 😛

    • Antonio Rich

(Laugh) I’m going to guess Cheez-Its…or, anything with cheese. Have you ever noticed that Ivy and Rachel snack on cheese and crackers quite a bit?

    • Phil

Do you suppose she was thinking ’bout a cookies snack when Rachel said she wanted to make Gingerbread cookies, in WWBC? 😉

    • Hi, Shanda. I’ve been busy, yup, but it just geared down to normal yesterday, and it feels good. OMGosh, you got me, Antonio. I used to like Cheez-its, until I looked at the back and saw the calorie count. Now I’m eating Triscuts in moderation, and filling my middle with hot green tea or black chai to keep it full and happy. The busier I stay, the less I eat, and it is an issue. I can’t eat ANYTHING anymore without it sticking to me somewhere.

  22. OH NO, MORE SNOW! I’m sorry, but did anyone notice that SNOW is a four letter word.

Had you had Aliex tested for Thyroid, and was she a wee baby when you got her? Small dogs can have hyperglycemia when they have pups. Ah, never mind, she looks wonderful now, nice Chi coat, and to be honest, I do like her head over showdog apple heads.

Enjoy your weather, and you probably have done more than you think you have.

  23. Hey Ms. Harrison,
Nothing to see here citizens, move along? 😉
My weeks always feel like that. I just never have enough time to do anything in.
Got a quote on my car, not too bad the damage. About $400 if I have my conversion right. Probably don’t. My back’s sore, though.
    Ce la vie.

    Have a good day,

    • Kylie Ru

Still, that sucks. Maybe you’re getting all your bad luck out of the way now, so you won’t have to deal with it later.

    • LOL, let’s hope so. I’ve had my fill (I haven’t even spoken of half, lol) for the year and it’s not even the 10th yet! But, these things have to happen to somebody and if the universe elected you what can you say?
      I know what i’m saying:
      “Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming…”

    • Phil

If the universe elects you again, maybe you can tell it that you choose not to run? 🙂

    • I tried phoning the universal election hotline but their answering message sang to me (on the melody of “it’s only words” by the BeeGees).
“It’s only you, and you are all we have.”
Like I say, lol. Just keep swimming… 😉

    • Hi, Alyssa. Oooh, ouch. I’m sorry to hear about your car. And I hope your back feels better soon. I had a string of bad luck in 09, and then the last day of 09, I had another of just little things. Cut myself three times in one day. I figured it was 09 taking a last pot-shot at me. I hope your luck changes for the better. Get out and breathe for a while, maybe. 😉
