Happy New Year! (what do you resolve?)

I’ll be taking a break tomorrow from the drama box, so I’ll say it today.  Happy New Year!  My wish is for you and those you love health and happiness in the new year.

I don’t make resolutions, but I will try to be more aware of my attitude, and I will make an effort to go out of my way to be kind to strangers.  Just for the hell of it.  -grin-

    Blessed New Year to all!

First off you are an awesome writer! I have to make myself put your books down when I start reading them or I end up going to work on almost now sleep. Second as an aspiring writer I get great inspiration from reading someone who understands so well what it means to craft a good story and entertain the reader. Third, I have been a Wiccan and practicing witch for for almost eight years now. I live in the bible belt and have to live in the broom closet 99 percent of my life. While I understand it is a personal choice. It is still a suck situation. I would lose my job and being in a small town when word got out I would be lucky to find another one. So I very much sympathize with the inderlanders who had to hide their identities for fear of persecution. I hope one day that we “inderlanders” can come out in the open and be more accepted. That their will be a world with open minds and more accurate information instread of bigotries and supersitions to rule their actions. Thank you for your works that speak to those of us still in hiding that there is hope for change and acceptance. Hopefully without it taking a genetic plague to open everyones minds and eyes.

Blessings, Love and Light to you,

    • Thank you, Lexxa. We all have things we don’t show the world, and it’s that which I pull on for the Inderlanders. I’m glad you’re taking so much from my work and that you enjoy it so much. 😉 Thank you! –Kim

  2. Happy New Year to you too Kim. I wish love, life and lots of laughter. Oh, and trying grinning maliciously when you are being kind to strangers, then tell us if they ran away from you 😉

  3. Other Heather

Happy New Year, Kim and all!

Apropos of nothing, but over the past few days my husband has gotten hooked on your Dead Witch Walking series. Out of boredom, he picked up the first book. Two days later, he’s finished off the first two books and is frantically searching our still-packed boxes to find Every Which Way But Dead. He also keeps grilling me about Trent (“Does Rachel end up killing him? Do they sleep together?”). I think he wants to finish all the books off before the next one comes!

    • Happy New Year, Heather!

Oh, that’s wonderful! I’m so glad you both are enjoying the books. 😉 It’s going to make for interesting conversation when he catches up to you.

  4. Happy new year, everyone!

Thought I’d mention that the second book I’ve bought (or actually pre-ordered) this year is Faith Hunter’s second Skinwalker book Blood Cross. Oh, the anticipation!

  5. Meagan

    Happy New Year Kim!

I don’t make resolutions either, though I do set a goal for the year (last year it was to read between 50 and 100 books… big tick in that box, a major chunk being your work!

I make resolutions on my birthday, possibly in the hopes that because I’m a year older I might possibly be slightly wiser and resolve wisely… One can dream anyway.

Hope the year is full of wonderful things for you and your family.

  6. fisher

I just finished the good the bad and the undead….I just wanted to let you know I understood the …but I don’t sleep with voodoo dolls comment. I love building a mystery. Peace $

    • -grin- Thanks, Fisher. I’m glad you’re enjoying the books. You’ll find lots of lyric snipits in the books if you’re looking for them. Not so much in the later ones, but the first five have a few.

  7. Jessica

Happy New Year! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday :).

I wanted to let you know that I just finished the BMS ARC and I absolutely loved it! I have the biggest smile on my face and it won’t go away. I tried to savor it like fine chocolate, knowing that the next book won’t be out for over a year and that you can only read a book for the first time just once, but I gave up and devoured it! There was so much in there to love and I experienced just about every emotion: I lauged, I cried, I got angry, I even shouted verbal encouragements out loud (despite the crazy looks I received), but I was just so happy in the end. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this amazing addition to The Hollows – I loved it! Now I will have to suffer through the next 14 months or so impatiently awaiting book 9. This is definitely my favorite series for so many reasons!

    • Hi, Jessica. Happy New Year! Ooooh, you got the ARC! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. This was a fun one to write, and things start to happen in it. Maybe you’ll get an ARC next year, too, then it will only be 12 months, not 14. 😉 –Kim

  8. Frotee

Happy new year Kim 🙂 Hope you and yours had a great entry into 2010!
Found out I completely skipped the age in which you are supposed to enjoy things that go *boom* without being pretty – might be because I’m slightely paranoid since those things (as well as the pretty ones) like to detonate near my feet, slip into my shoes or nearly hit my head -_- (no real damage so far, but I still like to seek shelter when they start throwing them around)

New Year resolutions are for people who don’t have the confidence to reach their goals if they don’t call them resolutions 😉 (I know I don’t stick with mine, so I gave up on making resolutions)

    Best wishes, Carina

    • Happy New Year, Frotee! I don’t really make resolutions, either, but I do look at what I’m doing and try to make changes. It works for me. 😉 –Kim

  9. UK Kate

    Hi Kim,

Happy New Year! My new year’s resolution is to get in shape. I’m not too badly out of shape, just hideously unfit! Hope you had a great Christmas and new year.
I managed to finish the 3rd draft of my MS today! Woo hoo! So chuffed.
I’d like to say thank you, as my signed cover arrived today! Which along with the snow we had last night has really cheered me up. The BBC aired the last Dr. Who with David Tenant as The Doctor last night. It’s a real tear-jerker and I am still gutted he’s gone. 😦
But the cover really made me smile, so thank you very much.
Hope all is well in the Harrison household.
    UK Kate 🙂

    • Hi, Kate. I hear you on the getting in shape. I’m not doing too bad, either, right now, but there are a few places I’m not happy with. sigh.

Congrats on finishing the 3rd draft! You are moving forward.

I’m going to miss David Tenant, too. sigh

  10. Heya Kim, just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year, may all your wishes come true! And that the german cover for WWBC (“Blutkind” – Bloodchild) is online at amazon.de. And did you know that they translate the Prom nights from Hell antho? It will be named “Bis in die Ewigkeit” – Until eternity, because they translated the Stephenie Meyer books also with Until. And it also has a cover.
    Have fun!

    • Happy New Year, Amy! Oooh, thanks for the heads-up abotu the new cover! I’ll have to go look and snag a picture to update the site. I did know that they translated Prom Nights from Hell, yes, but I’ve not seen it. –Kim

  11. Keshia

Hey Kim! I hope you have a fantastic new year and I’m totally stoked for the new book! I got an E-Reader for Christmas and your books were the first I put on it =D

  12. Justin

I just found out your coming to Minnesota I hope your willing to sign my hollows books’ I’ll have 7 with the new one that needs autographs 😀

    • Hi, Justin. Whoo-hoo! I’d love to sign your books, but if you want all 7 with personal notes, you might have to get in line a couple of times. See you there! –Kim

  13. DM

Happy New year and great reading to you all.

I have a resolution, it is to wish others well more, apart from the holidays.
Seems like I spend 2 weeks wishing everybody well and am now done for another year.
Something about that seems a bit off… or is it just me?

  14. I plan to write more and obtain a wonderful agent and get a HUGE book deal! 😀

  15. I plan to write more and obtain a wonderful agent and get a HUGE book deal 😀

  16. Jeannie

Have a Great Year everyone!! I hope the New Year brings health, love, prosperity and a little unknown, just to keep me intrigued. Very ordinary isn’t it. LOL.

  18. Christine

Wishing Kim, her family, and all of us (her fans!) a happy and prosperous New Year! No resolutions for me, either. I quit smoking in ’09, and THAT was hard! I don’t think I am up for anything this year! OK, wait….my resolution will be to read all of Kim’s books (yet) again, and buy the new one and read it at least 3 times! Gosh, I hope I can follow through on that one *grin*

  19. Judy Bienvenu

Happy New Year Kim and Guy! (waves to Guy)

  20. My resolution: To not try to lock metal greenhouse door with wet hands when it is below zero!
That may be one I can keep. OUCH! Happy New Year, or the time of the year that Calendar makers make out…

  21. Phil

I resolve not to leave the pizza crust on the plate, not to use spell-check, not to read the obituaries, and not to stay awake texting until 1am. 🙂 … And not to use so many smileys.

I wish you and Guy and the family, and everyone a safe and happy New Year!

  22. Vampyre

    Howdy ma’am,

Happy new year! The only resolution I am making is to lower my CC debt. My current method is not working. I’d like to lose weight too but wishing it off while eating brownies just doesn’t seem to work.

  23. JanisHarrison

    {Hmmm, not sure I like the reverse order of the postings, but it’s no big deal.}

Hey, Authra, get yourself some ARNICA tablets, It won’t interfere with your Rx meds, but will aid in reducing the pain/swelling. After 3 days of arnica, switch to comfrey (symphytum officinale) to promote healing.

I make resolutions whenever I perceive a need in myself to change a pattern. One of my best, and I’m still working on it, is to treat myself at least as well as I treat anyone else — sort of the flip side of the golden rule. A lot of deep personal healing there.

Again, wishing everyone peace, prosperity, health and happiness throughout the coming year.

  24. JanisHarrison

Hmmm…not sure I like the reverse order of the postings, but it’s not a huge deal.

Sending best wishes (again) to all who peep, lurk, post, etc, and to Kim & Family for a New Year filled with health, happiness, peace, and prosperity.

I’m not much for New Year’s Resolutions; instead I resolve something when the need arises, and I try to review my progress occasionally. One of my biggest resolutions, years ago, was to be at least as nice to myself as I am to anyone else — sort of the flip side of the golden rule. It has helped me to be a better and happier me, which enables me to be better to everyone around me.

  25. Frederique

I’m not making any new resolutions, instead I’m keeping the one I made during this year. I will no longer say or think “I can’t” it will either be “I can’t YET” or “Hell yes I can”. After hiking 10 miles to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, traveling alone, and making up my mind to train for the 2011 Los Angeles Marathon I know that I can do anything I set my mind to. There are things (like running the marathon) that I know I can’t just get out of bed and go do but that’s what I’m working towards and that’s why I say “I can’t YET”.

I wish all of you a wonderful and safe New Year! 🙂

  26. Kristy

I just thought I’d tell you happy new years and that the best way to upset the people that kept opening the cold door on you and Guy at the resturant. Kill them with Kindness 😉

  27. kat

I am not much of a resolution maker either. I used to way back when…but did not like the disappointment when I failed to adhere to them. But I do think that this is good time to take a look at your life and at least think about what you would like to change or improve. When my 10 year old son asked me yesterday if I had any resolutions, I realized I had one…not to get any more parking tickets! LOL I hate just throwing money in the trash.

Happy New Year to you and yours Kim and of course to everyone else!

  28. Jeremy, ca

this new found kindness for strangers doesn’t have to anything with the way you were treated at that restruant with Guy, does it? 😉

    Dear Ms. Harrison,
I’m behind in the books. I just finished For a Few Demons More. I am crushed that you killed Kisten. I get the whole drama thing but jeeze, this is fantasy! You can make it anything you like, specifically, NOT A DOWNER. Couldn’t you have found a way for Rachel to rescue his soul to be restored to another body at a later time? Or heck, just plain old not have killed him? Which brings me to Matalina and Jenks. Matalina was ill the whole book and Jenks’ age was menitoned, a lot. I don’t like where this is headed. What’s wrong with a happy ending? Thanks. liana

    • Sorry you’re not happy, Liana. It’s just the way the story goes. If it’s any consolation, I miss Kisten, too, and have worked him into the graphic novels. I’m also working my way back to the happy endings. –Kim

  30. suzannelazear

Hi Kim! I think my biggest resolution is to find a job–wait, that’s not a resolution, that’s a fact of life, lol. Hopefully things will pick up after the new year. We’re having my sister-in-law and her family over for a BBQ tonight.

A safe and happy New Years to you and your family as well.

    ~Suzi and the tot

  31. Antonio Rich

Resolutions? I’m with Marsha, I’m going to “have faith” that those 20…OK, 25 pounds will come off thru sensible diet and exercise…But Really, a THIN Italian is an unhappy Italian. A Tragedia!

    • Antonio Rich

Has anybody played this game? You throw out some names and you HAVE TO put them into one of three categories: DATE(WINK WINK)-MARRY-DUMP! I’ve seen this game adapted – recently I saw a sport show organize football teams into these categories!

Ayway – I thought it might be fun at the end of the year to adapt this word game to RACHEL. I’ve listed all the usual suspects in alphabetical order. I’ll go first:

      AL(EWW)-Dump BIS(Yikes!)-Date? DAVID-Marry!
      EDDEN(Err)-Date FORD-Date GLENN-Date
      IVY-Marry! JENKS-(Big?)Date LEE-(Hmm)Date
      MARSHALL-Dump! MINIAS(Huh?)-Date(Grin)
      RYNN CORMEL(Shhuddrrr…)-DUMP!

(Taps toe, gets up from computor, BEER, where’s my beer!? HEAVY SIGH. Drags self back to keyboard–)

UUGHHZzk ACK! I just threw up…a little bit in my mouth…I feel dirty.

    • Frederique

I hope Trent was a “DATE” just for the arm candy value. Haha! You are a riot Antonio.

    • Christine

Funny, funny, funny!! I really enjoyed that, and I feel the need to re-read the books….and, I also agree with Frederique…Trenty should definitely be a “date” just so everyone can have the pleasure of looking at him!

    • Kylie Ru

I think you’d know what I’d pick for Al and Trent. David and Glenn would get a date. I agree with Marshall, Nick, and Rynn.

    • Happy New Year, Antonio! Mmmm, weight doesn’t just fall off, but if you’re watching what you eat and excercise, it can’t help but come off eventually! Good luck! –Kim

  32. Scott S, Clovis CA

Happy New Year and God’s blessings to Kim, Guy and everyone!
I find the best way to celebrate the coming year is to reflect on all my prior years (of which I have too many!) thinking about all I’ve done right and wrong and then try to do more of the former in the future and less of the latter. Not exactly resolutions, per se, but it works for me.

  33. Kylie Ru

    Happy New Years, Kim-san!

I don’t make resolutions because I forget I’ve made them.

  34. Èrin

Keep up the great work. Happy New Year from all in Èire.

  35. Hey Ms. Harrison!
Happy new year! 🙂 We’re 7 hours ahead of you, so I’ll reach 2010 first. See me as a scout, making sure that all’s well before you guys enter it. 😉
I don’t make resolutions either, but – one is to be more aware of how my actions affect other people. I’m not always so attend on it (which is why i understand rachel…) Also, to get some of my original work off of the floor. And ride an endurance ride with Basjan. And get a real job.
Hmm. As you can see, lol, I don’t make resolutions. Not at all.

Have a good one Ms. Harrison, Guy, the pups and the rest of the family. 🙂 I hope that it will be a blessed year for you all.

    • Antonio Rich

(Grin) I live across the street from a British-styled Pub (I live in Dayton,OH – just a 40 minute drive from Cincinnati) and they are celebrating New Years twice: Once at midnight, and earlier at 7 to coincide with our European Brethren. At least, I think that’s the idea…I’m going to meet a friend there, drink a few pints, and crawl into bed “Before” midnight!

    • You have a great list, Alyssa. 😉 Hope you have a great New Year!

  36. A.N.

    Hello Ms. Kim!
Happy New Year! I wish you the best.
    Be Happy! A.N.

  37. Marsha

I refuse to make a resolution to lose weight because it makes me focus on nothing but food, which defeats the purpose. I have to have faith that those 20 pounds will come off. I am going to try very hard to return every angry glare and raised voice with a quiet calmness and a smile…it confuses the hell out of them : ) May the New Year continue to bring great things to you and your family.

  38. authra
