I am currently listening to the audiobook of “The Good, The Bad, and The Undead”. I’ve read all the Hollows books but I’m really enjoying listening to them. Ms. Gavin does an excellent job on the narration (love her interpretation of Jenks).
Since I just listened to DWW and am now on the Book 2 it’s brought up some questions about Nick. I can definitely see the foreshadowing now that there was some shady background with him. The demon stuff obviously, but his being a thief due to the fact that he keeps taking things from her (candles from the church, boots, etc.) But I want to know did you plan originally for him to turn on Rachel like he did? It seems like he cared about her at first (well, as much as a guy like him can I guess). I mean, was it just his love of money that made him think that it was worth selling her out for or did he even have feelings for her at all? It’s amazing how much a person can change and you can hate them. I soooooooo hope that Al gets possession of Nick. It would be so fitting.
Also, did you know when writing DWW that it was going to be a series? I just wondered if you had most of your plotlines thought up already when writing the first book or if you had to figure it all out later.
Thanks for the amazing books. Can’t wait for Pale Demon. Since I Love Trent & Rachel’s relationship I know it will be an awesome book.
Thanks, Kristin. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the books so much! When I started DWW, I didn’t look any further than perhaps three books, but I did lengthen my original story arc out to six when I was given the opportunity. Nick was a surprise. He still is. The story isn’t done yet.
Happy reading!
hello Kim, HAPPY HALLOWEEN (i am a bit late aren’t i?).I was wondering, is there a chance Trent will be the guy Rachel will end up with or is that just a far-fetched? they seem perfect for each other(Trent could cut back on killing people that is) and they have some great history. I doubt i’ll get an answer but a hint would be really appreciated(i’ve put my money on trent
)
Sorry for that, i’ve done some mistakes:
farfetched dream*
If Trent could cut back………
PS:cant wait for PALE DEMON!!!!!
Hi Paranormal
Trent and Rachel? Possibly. You never know. -grin- I’m not going to tell you, and I’m not sure myself. I have ideas, but when the last page is being written, all bets are off.
aaaaaahhh! ~gnaws on fist~
I can’t wait to find out it’s too far away!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Trent and i was wondering what is your opinion of him.Is he one of your favorite characters and what do you think of his character?
Oh, Trent is one of my faves. He was in the very first book, and he will be in the last.
no no no, I have already imagined Rachel and Trent having medical intervention twins a boy and a girl. The kids do not belong to the demons as their is some clause protecting the kids and future little witchy elves.
Dont make me have to rewrite my own ending. Gone with the wind took forever to rewrite.
replied in the wrong place sorry
Hi Kim,
Love your books! I was just wondering if there is going to be a paperback version of BMS? And if there is, will a preview chapter of Pale Demon be in it? (sorry if this info is already out)
Feb. 11 can’t come fast enough!
Love,
Kaylee
Hi Kaylee. Yes, there will be a mass market edition of BMS. It is due out late December, I believe, and there will probably be a preview chapter of PALE DEMON. Yay!
Aaaaah! I don’t wanna wait till The end of February! ~WHINING~ I want to win it!!
Hey!!
I can’t wait for Pale Demon!! My mom and I love your books!
I just wanted to hear you views on Rachel’s relationships: past, present, and future. I think the only guy she has really committed to so far is Kristen. I know what happened with him broke her heart. Nick and Marshall didn’t last long (but in my opinion, she deserves better anyway lol), and I don’t see Pierce lasting long either…
Do you think she will ever permanently settle down with a guy, or at least be in a long serious relationship in the future??
Laila
Will Trent play a big role in this book? And I doubt you’ll reveal this, but do you have any idea where you’ll be going as far as Trent and Rachel’s friendship/enemy/alliance relationship goes?
Hi Carlylynn. Yes! Trent is a major player in PALE DEMON. I think that might be why it’s my favorite. My lips are sealed on the long-term spoilers . . .
Omw that is so awesome have it on my wishlist already march hurry up. Its south africa so its a month later for us to get a copy. Thank u for replying told my whole family already about it. Ooh a famous writer actually responded, I can’t stop grinning. Love Cerise
That’s fantastic, Cerise! I didn’t know that you’d get your copies over there so fast. Hope you like it!
I get my online store to source them from overseas so you pay more but I love reading and I cant wait to sink my teeth into them. Think I might take the day off when pale demon arrives hahahaha as I hate not been able to finish them. All I can think about at work is then ooh I want to go home and read. Very unproductive. Will let you know if I like or love it, haven’t been disappointed with any so I’m sure I will. I love your teen works as well Madison is simply I want to say delightful but it feels wrong anyway I think they rock.
Hey! Rachel should get a Al a t-shirt that says “Don’t hate the Playa hate the game”…. Hilarious.
lol, that’s awesome! made my day
I know ,right! Picturing it in my mind made me laugh out loud so I had to post it.
Love it!
Hi Kim
Cerise here from South Africa. I just wanted to let you know that I adore your work. One quick question I know some people think I’m nuts but I would really like Trent and Rachel to get together, could that ever happen? They have both been so hurt before and have done terrible things to survive (not only for themselves but others as well) but maybe because they are so much alike. They both seem to have grown alot (esp Trent) perhaps they could find some happiness with each other….
Don’t stop writing
Love Cerise
Thank you, Cerise. I really appreciate that! You are not alone in thinking about Rachel and Trent. I’ve been thinking about them, too, which is why I put them in a car for 2300 miles. -grin- Have I mentioned that PALE DEMON is my favorite Hollows book? Enjoy!
@Cerise You are definitely not alone in your feelings! @ Kim AAAAAHH! I can’t wait to get my hands on that book! Here’s to hoping we find out if Trent is a good kisser.
First I just wanted to say that I love your books. My sister loves them too and is the one who introduced me to them. For that I will be forever in her debt. That being said I had a question for you. I like to write as well and is something I find myself doing a lot even though I have never been published. When I write I feel like each character comes to me with their story, as opposed to feeling like I created them. Is that how it feels for you when you are writing? Do the characters seem to have a life of their own and are you simply just writing it down for them? That may be a weird question but thats how it feels when I am writing.
Hi Krystyna.
That is great that you write. I hope you never stop. When I create a character, it’s usually to fill a need in the story, so much of their personality comes from that, but the rest of it, the little things, come as I write them in more detail, so it’s a little of both, I guess. I dictate a lot, but the smaller stuff writes itself. I I had to guess, I’d say 90 % is planned, and 10 is the character telling me stuff.
Is this how Kisten died? For me it was like.. when he became Rachels boyfriend I thought “Woa, no.. he’s kinda perfect for her right now.. But there are a few books that aren’t written yet.. so either he dies or whatever bla”.
I thought Rachel managed to keep her soul? She seemed to find other ways to get his/demon help without barthering her soul, that’s why he/Al can’t drag her off and why (one reason) he lost his stuff? or am I standing in the wrong parking lot?
Yeah, she kept it. First this familiar-deal, where she said, she’d be Als familiar, but WITH her soul. And she never had more than 2 morks of one demon. So you’re right where you are
.
Thanks!!
Hi Siretha. Yup. Rachel still has her soul.
Hi Kim I saw the post about Rachel being in love and that makes me really happy that she’s finally able to connect with someone on that level, but somethings bothering me…she admitted she loves Ivy more than a sister in Black Magic Sanction, and I was just wondering if Ivy will ever be happy in that part of her life? I know she has this thing with Glen but I don’t know it just doesn’t seem permanent? Sorry if I’m getting this totally wrong. I was just curious what it’d be like if Rachel and Ivy ever got involved together romantically, or why it wouldn’t work out between them if they could never have something like that.
Hi Deathsweetkiss. I’m going back to the RollingStones song that says “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you’ll get what you need.”
I’ve no idea how Rachel and Ivy are going to end up, but my goal is for them to find their happy endings.
You sound like my mom lol she used to sing that when I was little and I wanted something I couldn’t have. I guess I”ll just be anxiously awaiting the outcome to their story. Which isn’t such a bad thing, your books help me escape reality when I need to. Thank you for creating a series that can completely draw me in so I get a little peace every now and then. Can’t wait to read Pale Demon.
Your mom sounds kind of cool.
She is in her own way. :p Anyways thank you so much for taking time out of your day to answer your fans questions. You’re the only author I know of that does this, it means a lot to your fans.
Hi!
What happens if you die before paying back a demon mark? I’ve always wondered why Al was so gung-ho on finally getting Rachel for a familiar, then just leaving her to die with Piscary. Would he have gotten her anyway, if Piscary killed her?
Thanks again for being so cool with spoilers…I love all the thought you’ve put into your universe!
That’s a good question…would you become one of Al’s bottled souls? Since demons deal in souls (3 marks=your soul is theirs)?
Hi Lesley. I’ve not given it much thought, actually, since I wasn’t going to have that happen to anyone in the books. Sometimes, the unknown is more scary than the realized.
Will we get to go to Robbie’s wedding in the next book?
Gosh, Val, you’re just going to have to read it! -grin-
ARGH!!
hi kim i was reading thru these questions on here about peoples feelings on trentand how some would like to see some sort of relationship with rachel well from a guy point of view i do agree that trent is a strong and deep well kind of guy and i know you cant give away plot points with a road trip coming up(sitting on hands jumping up and down) but really based on what we know of them in the books befor i dont see how rachel can do anything but slap him in the head as a guy i cant see it with him putting her i nthe rat fights trying to make her a slave etc etc is it just my vindictiveness as a male that i dont get it??
Hi James. Ahhh, the subtle body language between people is amazing, isn’t it? I really can’t tell you much, but just keep reading. I’m trying to keep it real, and that means that sometimes people make mistakes, go out on a limb, and have sudden bursts of understandings, be it good or bad.
Hi again! More random questions!
I was listening to BMS today, and reached the hole-in-the-ground scene, and wondered….where did Pierce learn his ley line techniques? Did he figure it out on his own, or did he work in a little private demonic tutoring somewhere along the line?
How many demons are left?
How big is the Ever After- is it a replica of our entire earth or just a small swatch?
Are California’s ley lines messed up because of fault lines, or is it the “shattered badlands” that Treble was referring to?
Also, building on the food question below…someone needs to tell Al that he could do a mean side business providing decent coffee to the Ever After. After all, not every demon has a familiar that can jump to reality whenever they want! Maybe Rachel should open a coffeehouse if she gets stuck there for awhile. LOL!
Thanks!
Les
Hi Lesley.
I’m not sure, but that is a question that Rachel should be asking, don’t you think? -grin-
Not many demons, no. They are nearly extinct, kind of like the elves. Maybe they should stop their war, eh?
The ever after mimics the earth pretty closely, but much of it is uninhabitable.
I like your idea of the coffee shop! Fun!
Kim, when I was little and in grade school and I would come home from school crying because a boy was mean to me and mom would say “Oh, it’s just because they like you that they tease you!”. Do you think that’s the case with Rachel and Trent when they were kids? I know that wasn’t the case for me…blah.
It sure seems so! I wish it was so, though…but it seems like it won’t be the case for them. :’(
It could be, Val. It could be. -smile-
I noticed Al has been humming a lot recently… Is that like some sort of coping mechanism?
I think he’s just in a good mood. -grin-
If he’s in a good mood, that’s not good for our gang.
Oh I like he is in a good mood. He has grown on me- a lot
HI, I was wondering… If nothing grow in the ever-after, and they have to live underground…
What do demons eat?
How does their economy work?Do they import everything from the other side of the ley lines?
That’s a good question, Layser. I would be willing to bet that something grows occasionally on the surface, or perhaps they take what does grow, and make it taste palatable. There aren’t that many demons left . . .
Hey Kim! If I may call you Kim? lol
But now I have some ?’s lo
I must say I love this book and it is my fave in the series so far.
1. When Rachael shrinks and Ivy bends down to see her and hear her. Why can Ivy or hear “squeeks”? Doesn’t she have vampire hearing?
2. When Rachael and Pierce get small and grow back, how/why does the hair growth happen?
3. Why do people’s bio-clocks reset and kinda makes them immortal, everytime they do a curse?
4. Why is shrinking or growing people or yourself considered a black magic curse?
sorry lol I have so many ?’s
Hope to hear from you
Thank you Kim!
3. the Body is rebuild from the dna, it’s a grown up body but it’s first heartbeat is in the second it’s rebuilt. no effects of illness, damage or ageing for the rebuilt body.
4. every demon curse is black magic because of the combination earth+ley line magic and as Rachel uses a demon curse it’s black magic.
I suppose there isn’t an earth magic spell which can do the same as most of the demon curses are much more powerful than other magic.
Hi David. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books.
You have a couple of questions.
1. Pixies and fairies are born with a magic that allows others to hear their voices clearly, and Rachel didn’t. That’s all it was.
2. Ah, the hair growth. Some authors will have their characters pop back into existence with no hair. I chose to go the other way. No reason, but as long as I don’t break my rules without explanation, then everything works.
3. As for the curse resetting the biological clock? See answer two. (Because that’s the way I want it.)
4. If it takes demon blood to accomplish the magic, it is automatically considered a curse.
I just finished reading Black Majic Sanction and wow. It is very action packed and I loved every minute of it. I could hardly put the book down. I went from crying to laughing and everywhere in between. I think I cried as hard for Matalina as I did Kisten. I will miss her as she was just the family staple there. At the end of the book Al says to Rachel that she better be careful or esle Bis may attach himself to Pierce, and then she’s have to steal another garygole and wait another 50 yeras. Does this mean she is going to have to wait 50 years from now to learn how to jump ley lines? Or is Bis part of the way there already? Seems like an awful long time to learn, but she does not have much choice does she?
Waiting patiently for Pale Demon to come out……….is it February yet? I think I will reread all the books again while I wait.
Hi Marcie. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much. You asked about Bis. I’m sure the both of them are not going to wait 50 years to try to jump the lines. Perhaps they should . . . Bis is there already, he just can’t do it well or safely.
I can’t wait for PALE DEMON, either. It’s my favorite.
That’s great about Bis. I really didn’t want Rachel to have to wait forever.
Pale Demon is going to be awesome if it’s your favorite so far. Now I really can’t wait.
I want to know if will have a book 5 for the adventures of rachel morgan. Because I love very much this story !!!!
Thanks for your magical books…
Hi Emily. I’m taking the series out to 12 or 13, but if you are getting translated versions, I don’t know. I hope so! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thank you!
Hello;
Love your titles!
I’m a little confused by a statement or three in “Black Magic……..” Al(I think)told/implied that Rachel, accquired Bis when she was trapped in the everafter church–how?
Was it Bis who helped her & Trent escape?
Can Rachel pick up on some of Al’s thoughts?
Did I miss the reason why Jonathan hated Rachel?
Thank you, Siretha. I’m glad you’re enjoying the books.
Ah, Bis just sort of showed up at the church after he got kicked off the Basilica for spitting on people. Rachel did not acquire him anywhere.
Bis wasn’t in the ever-after to help Rachel and Trent escape, no.
Rachel can not pick up on Al’s thoughts.
It was never stated why Jonathan hated Rachel, no. He simply likes to torment the helpless.
Hi There:
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions the other day. Its not so much a question as fan rambles-my mind takes unsheduled flights now and again not to worry gravity hasn’t completely won I still manage to pull up;-} I was wondering:
Since all your titles refer to Eastwood Movies, When you get to “Play Misty for Me” could you make it about Newt? From Newt’s first intro to Rachel, I almost always think of Jessica Walters Part in that film– Newt is a lot more mental & scary then Ms. Walters I image Newt as looking a lot like Ms. Walters — I wouldn’t want to spend a single heartbeat in Newt’s company –not without strong seditives and strait jackets. any way Thank you for your attention!
Hi Seretha. Ooooh, that would be a fun title to play with. I’ll keep that in mind. -)
Hi Kim, I was just wondering in BMS, in a short conversation between Al and Rachel, Al says, “All youre friends are going to die…” then, “No, but eventually. You wont, not anymore inless youre stupid about it.” Is Rachel ‘immortal’ now, has she always been? What changed? Sorry Im just alittle confused, please clarify for me. Thanks!
I really ejoying readying your books, waiting impatiently for pale demon!
When Rachel uses demon curses to recreate her body after she transferred herself into another being her biological clock gets reset. Which means another 160 years to life. Same works for other people as an example for jenks when he gets big.
Hi Heather. Reinhard has it right. Al is referring to her being able to do demon magic and reset her biological clock. She has always had the potential, but now she has the skill, too.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!
Hi!
I was listening to BMS again (on tape) and remembered that Nick already had two mark from Al, and now two marks from someone else. Is he really running around with FOUR demon marks on him?! He’s rather cocky for someone who has three, let along four!
Also, I was wondering why the demons have the spooky eyes, but Rachel’s eyes are normal. Would her kids have the tell-tale goat-slitted eyes? Will her eyes change the more she delves into demon magic? And what’s the deal with Newt’s eyes (beyond simply that uber-black is wonderfully creepy)?
Thanks!
I wondered that too about the eyes! I came to the conclusion that maybe they evolved like that because of the whole no sunlight thing. I can’t wait to see what kim says though!♥
Hi Lesley. Does he have four now? I have lost count, but it wouldn’t surprise me. He’d better watch it. Someone might trade for one, and then he’d be up crap creek. Ahhhh, the eyes. I think it has to do with Rachel being born from two witches. If she has kids with a demon, they might have slitted eyes. Good question. Rachel should ask Al. Newt’s eyes are like that because she’s so full of smutty goodness. -grin-
Hi Kim. I was introduced to your books at the end of summer, and I must say they did just grab me and run. I think I “lost” about two weeks reading your first 7 books. I’m going shopping for Black Magic Sanction and I can hardly wait for Pale Demon. I absolutely love it when a book grabs me and I can’t put it down. I will be very sad when you’ve written them all as I probably will want more. You’ve created a wonderful realm with people who feel like real people rather than just characters in a book.
I do have a few questions/ideas for you…
1. On the whole Rachel/Ivy issue, I agree that Ivy should end up with a female person rather than a male even though she is bisexual. It just seems more fitting that her “soul” mate will be female. As to it being Rachel, I’m not sure there on one hand I would like it, but on the other Rachel seems to think she is more of a guy person. Although they say the best relationships come from being friends first, and they do complement each other very well. I would like to know more about the aura issue in WWBC, where Ivy holds up Rachel and Ivy’s aura covers Rachel to make her whole. I wanted to see them have a “girl” talk about it once they were at the church. Does it just happen when Rachel is using Ley Line? When her Aura is comprimised? or just when Ivy touches her because of the bit? Ivy said she did not feel anything, but what did Jenks and Bis if they witnessed it. How does Ivy and Rachel feel about that too?
2. Rachel should not end up with Al, he is just evil. Trent could work, but I saw someone with a post about Ivy and Trent, and I love that idea better. They would be perfect, although I think Ivy needs a female or the 3 of them together in some fashion.
3. I love how you go back and give us some history on each of the characters, will you be doing that with Pierce? What does he have in his past? Why was he buried alive? I do not see Rachel and Pierce staying together, but more of her finally getting over him. Maybe if she does the whole Rachel/Ivy issue can be completed.
4. I would think it would be great if Rachel does have a baby. You said that witches can’t be turned, however she must have some vampire blood in her now that Ivy’s bitten her. She is part demon, would she be able to start a new species that is a part of the 3? The baby could have everything that Ivy has for strength, hearing, mobility, and possibly the blood (but only for rejuvinating), but not become the undead. The baby would also have Rachel’s abilities for witch magic and ley lines. (okay that may be a bit farfetched, but hey I’m a mommy and I love children:) everyone should have one or two).
Here’s to seeing what is coming in Black Majic Sanction and Pale Demon, I can hardly wait!
Thanks Kim.
Hi Marcie.
Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much. You had a few questions.
1. Rachel and Ivy. It remains to be seen how that ends. I don’t know myself.
2. I don’t think Rachel should end up with Al, either. He isn’t trustworthy, and Rachel trusts far too easily.
3. Pierce isn’t out of the story, so there’s always the chance we’ll get into his past a bit more. He is in this next book pretty heavily.
4. Rachel is NOT going to have a baby in this series. Sorry. I’m just not going there. However, there might be kids in the tiny epilog that I plan on writing. I’m a mommy, too, but kids do not equal a happy ending.
You are welcome. Well I guess I just need to go and do some more reading and find out about Pierce. The story will go exactly as you see it, but I hope there are a good number of books yet to come. Good luck with the movie thing if you ever get the chance. I think these books would make a wonderful set of movies as I don’t think one would be enough.
I love the Hollows series and the Truth series you wrote as Dawn Cook. I am from a small place about an hour from Cincinnati and I really enjoy being able to visit some of the places you mention in your books. Also, Rachel is an inspiration. Whenever I feel that life is kicking me when I’m down, I just pick up one of your books and it always lifts my spirits. (I remind myself: it could be worse!)
Algaliarept is my favorite character. I can’t help but notice many similarities between Al and “Useless.” They both seem to follow their own code of honor. Useless did some pretty harsh things because he thought his actions were for the best or simply because it was his duty and he was obligated. Al also has his own code that he seems to follow, even if we might not agree with the morality of some of his actions. I would just like to know if the two characters really are similar or am I just reading into things too much? I also think that Strell and Pierce are alike in that they would both do whatever was necessary to keep the women they love safe.
Thank you, Amanda. I really appreciate that, and I’m glad that my work helps you get through life’s ups and down. Thank you, very much. Healthy escapism is the name of the game!
Al is one of my faves, too. He’ll be showing up more as the books progress. I’ve never thought of him and Useless as being similar, but they are both very powerful, and teachers at heart, so I can see how you could think that. Al has a great deal to learn about relationships, and Useless does not. That is one very big difference between them.
Same thing with Strell and Pierce. When it comes right to it, I don’t think Pierce is willing to sacrifice everything for Rachel. Strell would, without thinking. He’s more romantic that way..
Hey Kim,
I asked like a month ago if we were ever going to know what Trent´s hair felt like? Rachel is always talking about how soft it looks, I didn´t see the answer you gave me so if you can pls answer again I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Crystal
OMGosh, I’m sorry, Crystal. either I missed it, or it fell off the page. I have to keep the comments to about 200, or it takes too long to load.
Your answer is yes. She finds out just how soft it is. -grin- But if she’s running her fingers through it, or hammering his head against a tombstone, I’m not saying.
I can´t wait, how many books do I have to wait to find out?
Thanks for answering,
Regards,
Crystal
I got very excited after reading this point. I am in France now, Kim. Do you have any idea if I can preorder for the book to arrive here in February? I really do not want to wait to read it.
Thanks!
OMG! Really! Kim…now I can’t wait for Pale Demon to find out if Rachel does either one of those scenarios! Either way, it’s going to be a fun read!
Yay!!
Hey Shiana.
(It’s only a few days if I’m lucky, but still xD)
It is possible. I’m from Germany and I’m preordering almost everything, because I HATE to wait for books, too.
Sometimes I’m even able to read the books before they’re published in the US because Amazon gets them earlier and delivers them right away, which is aweeesome.
I guess it doesn’t matter if you’re from Germany or France, since we’re practically neighbours..
Have a nice day!
Fantastic, thanks, Patricia! I cannot wait to get it in.
Hi Kim,
How did “reality” and the everafter become separated?
Keep reading, KC. Keep reading.
Hello Kim!
I re-read this today about Pale Demon:
“A fearsome demon walks the sunlight, freed after centuries of torment to slay the innocent and devour souls. But his ultimate prey is Rachel Morgan.”
I thought about it and took a look at “ley line drifter” again and now i think that this “demon” might be Sylvan. That would be cool. : )
Sylvan would be cool, but so would Newt or even the essence that tried to take over Rachel in BMS. I think the idea of this demon running around and Rachel being asked to fix it after all the cruelty and predjudice she has suffered in the past would be just ironicly hilarious.
Yes, i thought about Krathion too.. (the soul that posessed Rachel) but i read somewhere on this page or facebook, that he won’t come back into the story.
Hi Stef. That is exactly what Sylvan was supposed to do, but I needed something even worse, so Sylvan might not come back. We’ll see. . .
Aaaa! Where did you read something from Pale Demon?! You gotta share!
Hey : )
It’s online for everyone to read. Take a look at this page:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8138071-pale-demon
Hey there Kim, me again.
One reader asked you a little while ago if Ivy and Daryl would possibly end up being each others HEA, and in I think it was Black Magic Sanction Jenks razes on Ivy for dating Glenn, and makes a couple comments about Daryl, and how she(?) and Ivy probably give Glenn a run for his money.
I have yet to be able to find to read your Hollows anthologies, but who is Daryl, is it a girl, and w here did she come from? And is it a living vampire, or something else? Or could you possibly link me to something that has information on this Daryl? I am intrigued and very curious as to what is going on with that.
Thanks so much, and happy writing.
Hi Absit. Daryl shows up in the novella LEY LINE DRIFTER, which is in the anthology HOLIDAYS ARE HELL. It’s from Jenks’s point of view, and has Bis and Ivy in it. I hope you find it. It’s probably in the romance section because it came out through AVON, not Eos.
Excellent, thank you.
And is Daryl a human or an inderlander (and if Inderlander, is it a living vamp)? I might have to take a trip up to Barnes and Noble now
Daryl is a warrior nymph. Or is she the dryaid? She is inderlander at any rate. Read the short story. Like ALL Kim Harrison writting, it is well worth it and awesome.
Kim, I think you meant the anthology Unbound. The story in Holidays Are Hell is Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel.
Yup! I had them confused. Thanks, Sue.
Hi Kim, a Romanian fan here!
I can’t believe Nick, what a jerk! Thank god Ivy and Jenks were a step ahead.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your work! I picked up DWW last week and now I finished your last one and I’m in withdrawal
I hope Rachel ends up with Trent, sort of a making up between demons and elves. Plus, he’s such a great character. They both seem to understand each other better now. I feel like there is great chemistry between them.
I have one question – was Al’s real appearance the one he showed to the gargoyle?
Also, when they twist a curse together, Rachel saw Al’s aura as golden, with no smut. But then when he makes the light globe, he says he can’t make it brighter because of his smut. I don’t understand that.
And why doesn’t she get rid of her smut when she makes the deals with the demons?
Hi Diana. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much.
You asked about Al’s appearance? I’m not sure myself. I’ll be figuring that out in the next couple of books. He really doesn’t know himself. It’s been too long.
As for the auras, some curses/spell will reveal the aura without smut. It’s still there. I’ve no idea why Rachel doesn’t try to get rid of the smut when she deals with demons. I think she’s just trying to maintain her soul at this point.
Hi Kim,
I haven’t written in a long time but I was wondering if their was going to be a short novel with the new book Pale Demon?
I love all you books, your my favorite author, February just can’t get here fast enough!!
One more- question have you said what the next book will be about not Pale Demon book the one after, like for the longest time we new this book was going to be the road trip, haven’t been in the site for a while I have my 8 month old baby girl and she seems to take a lot of time. I just don’t know how people do it with more than one! I do love her very much she’s just a handful at times especially after spending so much time with the grandparents.
Oh Trent is one of my favorites! Will you be written a story from hes point of view! Well sorry it got so long, great job on all your series and thanks for writing them, you’re the best!!
Will you be having a costume contest this year? Would love to participate still deciding how to dress the baby.
oh good luck with your gardening.
Hi Roxanne. Thank you. I’m glad you’re enjoying the books so much!
I’m having a hard time figuring out what you are asking. I’m confused, but I think what you want to know is that PALE DEMON is the next book, and it’s the road trip.
And yes, I will be having a costume contest. More on that once we get into October.
Hello Kim!
Well, I like Pierce and I think he’s perfect for Rachel. I do not want to see Rachel going lesbian for Ivy….nothing wrong with lesbian’s, but you’ve made it pretty clear that Rachel is straight.
Do you think Ivy will ever “date” a demon? I think it could benefit her immensely! However, since there is only one female demon that might be dangerous for Ivy or it could give her a thrill….
And I was wondering, you said you got “hate” mail when you killed Kristen, those folks weren’t serious, were they? Did you get actual threats?
Being a writer of a very popular series, do you find the movie ‘Misery’ has any truth to it regarding some of the more zealous fans?
Thanks!
Lisa G
Hi Lisa. Oh, I can pretty much guarantee that Ivy won’t be dating a demon.
As for the “hate” mail? No, not much, and none have been threatening.
I’ve had only one reader who gave me pause. During the signing, she got all up in my face for how I ended BLACK MAGIC SANCTION, like it was a huge cliff hanger. It wasn’t to me, but she was totally pissed and wouldn’t let go of it. I was very close to asking the store to get her away from me. But no, the readers were understanding about Kisten once I talked to them.
Hiya Kim,
I’m another one of those devoted fans of yours. (laugh) I love your work. There’s a specific part I actually love most about it, and thats Trent! You could almost say he’s the whole reason I read the series! Not that your other characters aren’t cool. I love Ivy, Jenks, and just about very male character you come up with (Somehow, I love how you portray guys. You have a unique, fun writing style, and I think its wonderfully inspirational for my own writing. Thanks for doing what you do!) But Trent, he’s the character that I am constantly guessing about, caring about, and impatiently zooming through pages till I find him, so I can read his scene through several times and try to absorb every scrape of info you give me on him. Is that how you stalk a fictional person?
If so, well,Trent, he has a lot of stalkers, doesn’t he?
But, what I was wondering is, well, if you don’t mind my curiosity, how do you like Trent? He’s your book child, so I would definitely love to hear your ideas of him. What did you have in mind when you first created him? Has he changed a lot from that? He’s definitely a different character to me than what he started out as. Do you personally like Trent very much? We rabid fans would love to know! I watched your interviews, but you can only focus on one character so much, and Trent isn’t even a super main one, I guess. I might even think too much about his character. But I love it. Keep up the good writing.
Oh, and is there a place to post fan art? I found the coolest set of models who just suited my image of your characters, so I made book covers for all your books with them! (laugh) It was fun, and the covers are rather cute, so if there was a place to post or send them, that’d be cool : )
Ah! I’ve exhausted your comment box! Writing to authors, especially if you know that they might read or answer a question, is exciting. Thanks for your time, and I hope your day is fun. And good luck with your plant pursuits (yeah, I even read the drama box.)
Hi Curious.
Do I like Trent? I LOVE Trent. He is so closed a character, yet open, that he’s a delight to work with. He’s got all this stuff going on in the background, power, responsibility, an agenda of his own, and we see only a little slice of it. And then there’s his heritage and magic starting to enter the story.
You will be pleased to know that there will be more Trent as the series starts to wind back to its beginnings as I end it. Yes, more Trent, making some surprising, yet half-expected decisions. He was there at the beginning, and he’ll be there at the end.
If you’re on FB, i have a fan page set up where you can post images and I will see them. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kim-Harrison/65772714939?ref=ts
I’m with ya on that! Besides Rachel, Trent is one of my faves! Hmm…I actually find myself re-reading the passages between these two plenty of times as well! I guess I’m a stalker of fictional characters as well!
Can’t wait to check our your fan art
Hi Kim,
I had a question regarding protection circles. I was rereading the books (again)
and noticed when Al has a copy of wi-fi Nick’s watch that sends out a signal to update against the atomic clock. How does that different from when Rache phones home while in a circle during the coven meeting?
I simply can’t wait for Pale Demon and my paperback copy of BMS!!
I hope you had a lovely long weekend
Hi Gothar. I’m not sure what you’re asking. If I’m understanding you right, there isn’t one.
I hope you like PALE DEOMON. It’s my favorite!
ahem – yes. It’s a case of a long weekend recovery system not being awake yet. I was trying to ask if there was a difference between the 2 circles or was it simply a case of trying to keep 1 circle up and other a possible way to break it?
There was no difference between the 2 circles. When rachel used the phone she improved her connection to the world outside of the circle which helped her to escape. the same would have happened if nick’s watch would have adjusted to the atom clock(as atom clock are normally sending all the time this wouldn’thave worked). pls correct me if I got something wrong.
reinhard
Hi Reinhard. You have it exactly right.
And just so you know, Gothar, Al having that watch was entirely for show. He would consider it totally “non-sporting” to use a watch to help him break out of a circle. Demons do have their pride, you know. -grin-
Hi, I’m a german girl and i have a question.
Would you write a third book from Tess?
I love your “princess” series. ♥
Luna
-grin- Thanks, Luna. I did kind of leave that story line hanging, didn’t I? Maybe someday. Right now, there is just no time.
Hi Kim, I read White Witch, Black Curse where Rachel finally remembers what happened on Kist’s Boat! I could hardly “see”, to finish reading the book, due to my crying! Good thing I was reading it on my Kindle, LOL.. a regular paperback would be “soaked”! You are an amazing writer. It has been many years since an Author provoked that kind of response in me, I salute you! All my life I’ve wanted to write novels. (In October I’ll be 65 yrs. old), and the closest I’ve been is a one page magazine article, when I was Twenty-something. Now that I have all the free time one could want, I’ll go back to the task. (partly thanks to you), and If I’m ever good enough to invoke a reader to tears, I’ll consider my life fulfilled! Once I finished the first book in the Hollows Series, I bought all seven of the remaining books at once! My kindle will hold 1,500 books, so now I’m waiting for you to write about 1,490 more. While I’m waiting for the next one in the Hollows Series, I finished Once dead twice shy, and have just started Early to death, early to rise. I’m not sure where you are going exactly with this character, perhaps a new series? Thank you so much for putting the Wind back in my sails with your prose. I enjoy your writing profoundly.
Sincerely, Joe Walter
Joe, I love getting emails like yours. Go write. Write what your soul tells you. Enjoy it. And good luck!
Hi Kim!
I was wondering what Sa’han means? I can’t recall if it was ever explained in the books as to why Quen and Jonathan refer to Trent as Sa’han.
I just realized I never figured out the meaning. Thanks in advance!
Hi Alaxandra. Sa’han is a made up word that is like sir. It’s elven in origin. There is also Mal Sa’han, which has overtones of loving servitude in it, which Ceri won’t allow Trent to address her with. -grin-
Ahh, ok!
Speaking of Halloween costumes…I’m curious what Newt’s robes look like. Did you have anything in particular in mind when you described them?
Also, it’s neat to find out that you named her after Newt from Aliens. It makes her even more tragic by hinting she’s actually still very vulnerable in some ways. I do hope we get to see more of her and that she finds some sort of peace someday (even if she scares the pants off of Ceri with her evilness).
Hi Lesley. I’ve always thought of Newt’s robes as looking something between a martial arts uniform, and maybe a nurses uniform. Lose and free flowing, but easy to move in and won’t catch on anything.
And you hit it right on the head. Newt, for all her power and strength, is about the most vulnerable demon there. Her memories are her downfall. Her past. We’ll see more of her.
Hi Kim…
Once again I would like to say that I absolutely love your books and I hope that you never stop writing even after you are finished with the Hallows series.
Question 1. I am curious about what happened exactly when Newt came into the Church and tried to take over Rachel looking for something that she had “lost”. I know it ended up breaking the sanctity of the church and I was wondering if it was a result of the battle between Newt and Rachel for Rachel’s mind/body or if it was a curse that broke the sanctity? If it was a curse that broke the sanctity of the church then is it something that any Demon could do with enough ability and the right curse?
Question 2. As Rachel comes into her Demon Powers more will she eventually have any issues with entering sanctified ground like the Demons have or will it never be an issue because she is not a “true” Demon but a witch that has been “fixed” thus creating the ability to use most of the magical arts to their full potential? (Sorry about the run-on sentence… Sometimes I just can’t get an idea or my thoughts out with out rambling… lol…)
Thank-you in advance for your answer even if you can’t answer me fully without spoiling the surprises in future books!! I hope you have a blessed week and that your pen never runs dry!
Thank you, Lyra. I’m so glad you’re enjoying my work.
You asked about Newt. She broke the sanctity of the church so she could search it properly, and she used a curse to do it. Not every demon could do so. Probably just the females, but maybe some of the more experienced males?
You asked about Rachel and sanctified ground. She’s good. She will never be stopped by holy ground, because the spell that makes things holy doesn’t recognize her as a demon. There is a better answer, but yeah, I don’t want to spoil it.
OMGosh! I can’t to wait to have my Al fix!! I don’t want time to go any faster though, because it already seems to go faster the older I get… But “Dang!” I can’t wait to read Pale Demon!! What does a girl have to do to get a ARC? Greg’s not going to be able to finish his Iron Man costume in time.. Maybe next year.. Sad.. When does the excert come out? I could have sworn I had picked it up on Black Friday last year but I might be mistaken.
Hi Val. Dress up for the Halloween costume contest, and win it. That will get you an ARC. -grin-
No excerpt for months and months, I’m afraid.
blah.
OK, I admit, I thought about asking this, but didn’t have the guts without turning somewhat red.
Now, I can read the stuff, enjoy it, but damn, I don’t discuss it. Unless it’s human anatomy.
Ever since my boss overheard my MP3 at the point is said “My Vampire Lover”
Anyhow. are female witches related to bitches. *VBG*
Depends who you ask, Mud. -grin-
Hi Kim
Thanks for answering me the other day. I just I wanted to say that I don´t understand why a lot of people want Rachel to end up with Ivy. Rachel is straight. My best friend, whom I love like the sun is bisexual, we have been friends for 25 years and the fact that I love her a lot doesn’t mean that I could sleep with her…if a person is straight they are straight, if one is gay one is gay and if one is bisexual one is bisexual…you don´t cross to the other side unless you have bisexual tendencies. The other thing, if I am not mistaken, Ivy wants blood and sex together which probably could bind Rachel to Ivy in such way that she would become a shadow of Ivy. Please correct me, Kim, if I am wrong in this regard. Why anybody would want a person as independent and strong as Rachel to become blood dependant – what a destructive relationship!!! Rachel didn´t even want to be bitten by Kirsten because of that reason and eventually happened but with a lot of care if I am not wrong. And although I love Kirsten’s character, in the long run he wasn´t the right choice for her either because of the same danger. Kim please could you answer me this: Isn´t a bite from any vampire extremely erotic and exhilarating? I mean Rachel loves Ivy a lot and I think the feeling got confused by the erotism of the bite that Ivy gave her which any other vampire could have also caused by biting her. I want Rachel to be happy and Ivy too. But I think Ivy has a lot of issues that she must solve, and I think the only being that could help her to solve those issues is another vampire with whom she could have sex and blood sharing without feeling guilty and miserable. A woman or man vampire that could love her and could make her explore her own desires without the danger of binding a person.
Miriam, you have hit every thought that I have had while trying to decide how this relationship should continue. I’m not seeing them together as a couple at the end, but I could be mistaken. I didn’t see Kisten coming (or going) either.
Hello Kim,
Big fan here! Thanks for all the hard work put into this series, it is always a pleasure to read your books. And I know you’ve heard it before but here it is again, can’t wait for Pale Demon to come out! Just one question on the Rachel/Ivy relationship, I was just rereading DWW when Ivy and Rachel have their first scare… Ivy says she can only bespell people if they want to be…and the whole scene was pretty sexually charged to begin with… I guess my opinion is that I would love to read about them taking that next step in typical Rachel manner, act now think later. But however it works out, I’m sure it will be great.
Hi,
I love your books and have gotten almost everyone I know hooked on them. I always warn when handing over my copy of DWW (which always has to be returned) that they have to be prepared to get hooked, cause there is not getting around how good it is, and they only get better with each book. Thank you, from someone who is trying to write herself, and you are inspiring to get this first draft done.
I do have a question. It’s been bugging me as of late.
Is there significance to Robbie taking his coffee the same as Minias (similar in taste to how demons seem to like coffee and now Rachel too)? If so what? I keep having great visions of Mr. High and Mighty coming off his pedestal if he learns that Rachel was not the only one in the family fixed or that he has some tie to all of this.
Can’t wait for Pale Demon! Thank you.
Hi Courtney. Yes, there is. Witches who have the Rosewood syndrome gene have a liking for that flavor combination.
And thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much.
The coffee combination wouldn’t happen to be a real one would it? (doesn’t drink coffee but was just wondering)
It’s based on a chai tea latte, no fat, no foam, with a half-pump raspberry in it. That’s what I drink. I just shifted it to coffee and added some cinnamon for the elf connection. I can’t stand coffee. Blech.
Hey ! (:
I wondered.. Demons can’t enter holy ground.. how does it work? Would it kill them? Or are they simply unable to?
Also.. they have a soul. Undead vamps don’t and somehow I get it then. But with demons I’m confused xD.
Oh and did you know that you have some fans here: http://www.flush-shop.de ?
There are some soaps, shampoos and conditioners called Ceridwen’s Cauldron (http://www.lush-shop.de/ceridwen-s-cauldron.32.html), Demon in the Dark Soap (http://www.lush-shop.de/demon-in-the-dark-soap.795.html <- The colours! Haha! xD) and Brimstone Body Scrub (http://www.lush-shop.de/brimstone-body-scrub.2683.html) don't know if it's just a coincidence but I thought it's funny!
I think I'm gonna buy them for my hospital-stays (what's the real word for that? I've no idea.. oô).
Maybe there're even more..
Wish you a nice week! And again: I love the Hollows! Thank you!
Hi Patricia. They just can’t do it. It’s actually a witch spell, not anything spiritual. Remember when Rachel had the church re-sanctified? It was explained there.
Cool on the links. I’m sure it’s coincidence. Brimstone is an old idea, and Ceridwen is a common Celtic name.
Oh! I have to reread it then. Pooooor me ;DDD.
And I don’t want it to be coincidence.
-grin- I mean, they have a soap called “Buffy”.. xD. I’ll stick with it. They are your fans now.
-acting like my little sister, jumping and crying and stuff!-
Thanks for the answer!
Hello Miss Harrison I am new to wrighting someone like this so please forgive me if I make a mistake. To start with I only recently discovered your books and have realy gotten into them. I read them in two weeks including the shorts. Also so you know it was the Clint Eastwood like titles that got my attention. So anyway on to what I wish to say/questions. To start with I am a supporter of Rachel and Ivy endding up togather, or at least come to a satisfing/comfortable place togather. I don`t know if alot or just a few people who feel this way but that is what I would like to see. So after reading things Rachels mom had said to her ( two vampires and a witch was not a good idea but two witchs and a vampire might work ) if I got that right. Also about getting board with someone after awhile plus her relationship with Donald and Monty could it be possible that Rachels HEA could be with more then one person? I mean even the elf statue is three people. Ok I have other questions but I will ask them next time. thank you for wrighting some great books.
Wow, thanks, Michael. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much. Thank you! There are a lot of people wanting Rachel and Ivy together, and I don’t know how that’s going to end. But I will soon!
Hi Kim,
First I want to say that I really enjoy your writing. I gave DWW a chance a few months ago after seeing it on my recommendations list repeatedly, and quickly tore through this series and then the Madison series. I love your characters and world-building.
I have a few random questions:
- Will there be a short story included in the mass-market release of BMS (like there were with a couple of the others)? I don’t know why that popped into my head, but I was wondering.
- At one point in the books, Rachel mentions that her father cautioned her against riding with elves or something (eating?) with the sidhe. Why is that? How will her ride at the end of BMS affect her (okay, I know you can’t answer without spoilers, but it was worth a shot). And what exactly is a sidhe?
- Will Nick be reappearing in the series? I’d love to see some sort of comeuppance for him.
- Any chance we’ll see Jenks become big again? Because that? was awesome.
That’s about it for now
February can’t come fast enough.
Thanks, Mari. I’m so glad you took a chance on my work, and delighted that you’re enjoying them! There is no short story planned for the mm release of BMS, no.
I don’t know why Rachel’s dad cautioned her, but I should find out. I don’t think the ride with Trent did anything magical, but it did open her eyes to Trent a little. Maybe that’s what he wanted to prevent.
Nick comes back. Mmmmm.
I’d love to see Jenks big again. Maybe? I don’t know.
Hi! I hope you don’t mind me putting in my 2 cents! Sidhe is another word for fae. Elves are considered to be fae or part of their overall race. Sidhe if IRC are supposed to be the royal houses, of Seelie (light fae) and Unseelie (dark fae) In real fairy tales the fae are seriously bad news regardless of whether they are seelie or unseelie. They do some seriously bad stuff to humans and even to others of their kind. They can steal yrs from your life, turn you into an animal so that they may chase you (they like to do this particularly on new moons) or include you in their wild hunts and other stuff, like eating you. Eating the food of a sidhe or fae comes from the tradition of hospitality. To them once you eat something you now owe THEM and they can be especially cruel in their payment plans. Just like saying thank you to a sidhe or other fae presumes that you owe them a service (they usually make you regret it) Other cultures have similar traditions. Like Hades in Greek culture who fed a single pomegrante seed to Persephone and she now has to live there for the entirety of winter (winter was brought on by Persephone’s mother who controls the earth’s seasons. She is so saddened by her daughter’s absense she lets the earth grow fallow and bereft). That’s the nickle and dime explanation. And I am totally hoping that Jenks gets big again. I’m also really psyched to see how Kim configures more mythology into her books. I especially love kim’s explanation for the demons’ dimension; the everafter!
Hi Kim
I am also another Argentinean that is in the list of your readers!!!
I love your books, they are absolutely awesome. I am counting the months to get Pale Demon. Thank you for such wonderful reading!!
I really, really wish Trent and Rachel would end up together, but you don´t seem to want that so I guess I have to sadly stop fantasizing about them being the HEA for each other…sniff!. I have some questions regarding Pierce and Al and the riding with the elves…
1) What does it mean when Al said that Rachel had been recognized and that was why he didn´t want to do the returning of the name?? ….I personally think that you are stewing something there.
2) How can Pierce make love using demonic stuff with him being a normal witch…..? Could it be Al instead, using some sort of spell to smell like red wood? Or if it was Pierce could he just have betrayed Rachel and given her an useless charm for contraception? I would love to see mommy Rachel.
3) Trent is desperately trying to hook her onto his side so is it riding with elves a way to get from her a stronger commitment towards the elves?
4) Are demons inherently evil? I mean is there any good inside Al soul? I have a friend that would love Rachel and Al together while my husband says she wouldn´t end up with a demon because they are inherently evil.
Thank you
Good questions, especially #3!
Hey Miriam,
#4) This is just my own impression, so I may be off the mark here (please correct me if I’m wrong, Kim. Thanks!)
“Demons are inherently evil.” Not in the Hollows, mainly because they have souls and thus have the choice, just like anybody else, to be evil, good, or somewhere in between. They are perceived as evil at first because Rachel had very clear lines between good and evil, but that changed through time as things became more and more gray to her. I believe they have the capacity to be good occasionally (which Rachel is seeing, I think) but continue to be seen as only evil because the consequences of their magic (smut) is really ugly-looking and because it gives them unimaginable power, which can foster fear, resentment, envy & hate in others. (Plus they might come off as seriously jaded because of their situation [only female Newt, stuck in Ever After, etc] and how long they’ve lived).
Right???
Hope this helps!
Great questions! Can’t wait for Kim to answer!♥
Thanks, Miriam. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. You had some questions.
1. Just that she was noticed is all. Nothing really big there.
2. OMGosh, I don’t want to go there with PIerce and Rachel having a baby. That’s why I got Rachel an amulet. No babies. No. Trust me on that. And no Al dressing up to look like someone else just to have sex with her. Not going to happen.
3. Yes.
4. Yes. Demons are a mix of good and bad, but mostly they just don’t care about anything other than themselves. The perfect child. Keep reading.
Hi, Kim.
I was wondering if there are any other humans besides Ford who have special abilities, and I’m deliberately excluding all humans with elf blood from my question. Humans seriously don’t get any respect from inderlanders as far as I can tell, so I think it would be neat if humans had some advantage other than the ability to breed like crazed bunnies.
Hi Max. There might be? But they will be few and far between.
Hello Kim,
I have a question regarding the elf statue in BMS, is that possibly a hint at something to come? Could this and his obsession with Ceri be preparing us for a plural relationship?
Have a great weekend! And as always thank you for sharing with us.
Lisa
Hi LIsa. I’d like to get back to the statue, but I don’t know if I can manage it. Maybe?
I know its a been a bit, but Thank you for replying.
“Ahhh, Trent and his happy ending. I can’t tell you what it is, or I’ll spoil it for you, but it shocked me. And it has nothing to do with Rachel, either.”
hi kim you’ve said this before in response to a question about trent’s HEA, so i was wondering if this rules out trent as rachel’s HEA or does he still have a chance. Also how bout Ivy and Daryl end up together.they seemed to fit each other in one of your short stories.
Hi Lenny. Oh gosh, he still has a chance, but I seriously doubt it. Like Rachel said, they look good together, but apart. As for Ivy and Daryl? I was hoping that might happen, but it remains to be seen.
Hello again Kim, I have a few more questions.
1. Last time I asked about Ivy you said you would like her to have a HEA, and would prefer it with a female. Again, perfect idea. It would be so weird for her to lust after females so obviously only to end up with a guy. Bad taste in my mouth, that. Anyways, do you think if Ivy’s intended is female (yes, yes, yes!) is it most likely going to be a vampire? Or might she possibly end up with a were? Or perhaps a fairy… if the fairy used a curse to get bigger. <.< Or even a banshee perhaps?
2. Is Jenks going to find someone new to love?
3. How come at the end of BMS the leader of the Coven of Ethical and Moral Standards called Trent an elf during the final meeting between Rachel, Trent, and the Coven Leader? I thought no one knew Trent was an elf, but no one seemed surprised to hear that Trent was an elf. Is it because like the vampire Rynn, the Leader just knows what is going on in secret?
4. Will we ever learn Newt's summoning name, and will Newt ever gain her sanity back? Or at least become a bit more lucid?
5. Is Minias truly dead? Not sure if someone else asked this or not, but if he is, that makes me sad. He was a pretty chill guy, and he really seemed to love Newt.
6. Is Ford an Inderlander? I was thinking about it the other day, and it would be really cool if he was. I think in the end of WWBC Rachel speculates on Ford perhaps belonging to an extinct Inderlander race that balanced out Banshees. This would make a lot of sense especially if it meant that if Ford was an Inderlander he would belong to a species that could breed with Banshees, making it easier for Banshee's to breed in general. Since he is able to feed and sustain Holly because she can feed off the emotion he feels from other people. Is this even a viable theory?
The following answers have a 100% chance of being wrong.
1 Rachel has the worst luck with men and will give up and take ivy.
2 Jenks heart cant stand falling in love he already found his soul mate and lost her there is no replacement for a soul mate.
3 The Coven knows all. They talked to Trent before (remember he said he could protect Rachel for he told them stuff).
4 Newt summoning name is bob. (Females don’t like to cross the lines so she will ignore all summons so knowing the name is useless).
5 Knowing AL will keep his promise unless minias was able to fake his death by dressing up another demon to look like him he may of gotten out of it. (remember the DNA thing then again newt might be able to get into it).
6 Ford is a truck.
(Ivy gave the someone a WISH[dont forget FIRST book lol])
Hi Absit. Mmmm, lotsa questions.
1 and 2. I don’t know.
3. That Trent’s an elf is an open secret to the movers and shakers, and they keep the secret out of respect.
4. No, and yes, probably.
5. Yes. He’s dead.
6. He could be. I sort of left it that way.
I was wondering something, and maybe some readers might think Im really reaching here. Jenks has decided to stick around a bit longer to honor Matalina’s last wish, and to be there for Rachel and the business. Seeing as though making Jenks big has in turn recharged his lifespan, it makes sense that making him big for good could prolong his life…maybe even to the length of a witch’s lifespan. Jenks and Rachel have been sort of “soul friends” from the very start. They would die (and clearly kill) for each other. Jenks is someone……maybe the only one besides Ivy…..that Rachel can really REALLY trust. Any chance of Jenks being THE ONE for Rachel in the end? Or am I just chasing rainbows?
Soo interested!!
I think you’re chasing rainbows, Kristi.
I like that Rachel has a guy friend she’s not looking at in that way, even if she does appreciate his sex appeal.
Hi kim!
This time I do have a question, even though I’m a bit embarrassed to ask but I’m curious! In the books it has been mentioned that Witches do a power pull to increase pleasure. And Al has even mentioned it to Rachel that demons have something similar but it’s even better. I was wondering if Elves can do that?? Hmm…like witches and elves, if they happened to get together?:D
ooooh. Good question!
-grin- Yep. They can.
Oooh!
Hi Kim!!
I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your books. I’ve been reading them for quite a while and I can’t wait for the next one! I really don’t have a question, but I wanted to add that I’m definately for a possible Rachel/Trent coupling. I love every single scene with them. I love how they argue and at times reach an understanding and respect to one another. I hope Quen would see this and nudge Trent to be nicer and perhaps realize he cares for Rachel!
Thanks, Alexandra. I’m so glad that you are enjoying my work. Ahhh, Rachel and Trent. I wanted to know myself, so I stuck them in a car and sent them out west. I figured if something was going to happen, it would happen then. Is it Feb 22 yet? -grin-
Thanks for your reply! That sounds like an awesome scene! Now, definately I can’t wait for Feb 22!
So if nothings happens in Pale Demon it’s (almost) impossible that anything will happen at all? Hm.. well.. damn. xD *hopes for some Trent/Rachel-action now*
@Patricia – hate to say it but I agree with your comment.
@Patricia & Alexandra I know right! I am so nervous and excited. I’m hoping we’ll at least get to find out if Trent is a good kisser..~sigh~
Alexandra, Patricia & Val-Oh, I asked Kim last week about two things she blogged about when she originally was writing Pale Demon. I wondered if the bathroom scene and the fact that Trent finds his HEA had survived all of her edits. She said that Yes, they had. Since she has also said that she, so far, has two new male characters in the book after Pale Demon that might work for Rachel’s HEA, I don’t think that Rachel will be Trent’s HEA. I just don’t know who it will be. It must be someone they meet at the Witch’s convention. But who??????
Thanks Sue!! I can’t wait to meet the new boys!!.. I wonder if one will be a demon? That would be SWEET!♥
What and when is (or was) the witch’s convention?
Shiana,
In BMS, Rachel is told that if she wants to get her shunning officially removed she needs to go to the Annual Witches Convention on the West Coast. That is, we presume, how Kim gets Rachel, Ivy, Jenks and Trent into a car on a trip. Remember, because she has been shunned, Rachel cannot fly.
Thanks, Sue. I forgot it is called a convention. I cannot wait for this road trip!
I don’t think Ivy will be going on this road trip in the next book. Remember she really shouldn’t leave Cinici. The one time she did was for a very short period, where a road trip I would think would take much longer. Just my two cents on the road trip crew.
i was too quick with my comment. i finished reading all the posts and Kim has stated Ivy would be on the road trip. of course now i’m wonder how! rats and many more months to wait for the answer…
Ok, so after finishing up the series of sookie stackehouse i was searching for an othe series to pick up…, i was browsing amazon and a really nice guy posted a list of all the series you should read. You know, i dont know what made me buy your books, but im glad i did!!, i live in argentina so its almost impossible to find good books in english, so i have them shipped of with amazon…
I started with the first book 3 months ago, and just finished reading black magic sanction, I dont know how im gonna do to wait till the next one is released…
I wanted to ask you…are we going to see more Ivy and Reachel together?, hope so, i love a complicated relationship, and they do have one like that…
in several places reachel says that she “doesnt swing that way”, so what? if she feels good, and connected…
I love Trent and reachel also!, they fight and make up like a couple…, or is it just wishfull thinking?
Al…, well, i think he is just lonely in the ever-after, maybe thats why he wants reachel there so bad
Sorry i kind of drifted…to wrap up…, congrats on the series!!, now you´ve got at least one fan in argentina.
Hope i didnt make many mistakes as spanish is my native tongue.
Stef
Hi Stef.
Thank you! I’m so glad you took a chance on the Hollows, and delighted that you liked what you found. I’m not sure how everyone’s happy endings are going to turn out, myself. It’s one of the things that keeps me going to the keyboard every day.
Your English is very good.
Kim, I was wondering if Trent and Ivy would be a match? They both are loyal to those they care about and Trent did make that comment about her. (when they caught Nick). They both are use to and like the finer things. Both are planners. Both are looking for love….and yes I remember how Trent is afraid of vamps but he seems to be re-evaluating that concept when it comes to her….any thoughts, slips of tongue?? grin
Hi Jeannie.
Ivy and Trent? Wow, that’s a couple I’ve never considered. Mmmm. I’ll give it some thought . . .
I have been thinking that they might possibly be a good match too…although I was/am kind of partial for having him wind up with Rachel…hmmm…Ivy might be a better fit…but Ivy needs to have more than one life partner and I am not sure if Trent would be OK with that…just thinking out loud.
Hello Kim!
I have a question about “Black Magic Sanction” The part about Rachel shrinking down to pixie size was very cool. Will there be more scenes like that in upcoming books? That was a fun part to read about. Though I hoped for more interaction between Rachel and Ivy lol
Long time fan here. I’ve read all the books so far and I must say they are amazing!
ps you should soo make these books into movies! They’d be a hit
Hi, David. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my work. I liked getting Rachel pixy-size, too, so if there’s ever the chance, I’ll probably take it. I’d love to see the Hollows as a movie. I don’t know how they would market it, though. It’s sort of an action romance.
Yea that was fun hehe so I hope the chance arises again
Well There are action romance type movies out there that do great! Just something to look into
Underworld had romance in it. Many action movies have romance in it. (Rachel is the James bond of the witch world, Bond always ends up working with a girl and then sleep with her well Rachel almost does the same. Who doesn’t want a female James bond with magic instead of gadgets!)
Well, when you put it like that, I don’t know why Hollywood isn’t banging my door down. -laugh- We need another James Bond. One with magic, a good heart, and a girl-next-door appeal. Dare I say, nice?
Hello,
It may just be me but i was wondering why no one has figured out that Trent is an Elf. From the point they said pixies could not tell what he was i knew (well guessed till i confirmed it) that he was an elf. He could see lay-Lines and use them (one in his office) and there was no sent so the only logical idea is that he is an elf. They were breeding with humans when the T-virus hit and not all humans were killed so not all elf kind would be kill off to one would presume. And if vampires could smell sent as well as anyone they would of remembered what an elf would smell like.?.
I also wondering why you used the word Afghan instead of blankets? (had to look that word up the first time i read it to confirm my guess that it was a blanket of sorts.)
I believe afghan is a certain type of knitted blanket… Details.
Hi Keltin. It’s kind of like telling a bunch of birders that you saw a Passenger pigeon. (which is extinct) It is something that they all know of, and would sell their first-born to see, but they would laugh in your face. People see what they expect, not what is really there.
Why did I use afghan instead of blanket? Because afghans are home made. It implies that Nick has a mother, and she and he are fairly close. A blanket is just a blanket, but an afghan is a sign that he has a mother, and she loves him enough to spend 40 hours making him something to keep him warm.
DETAILS…
Hi Kim,
i am a huge fan of your work,i love the hollows.Your books have kept me alive during the most boring summer vacation EVER,so thank you for that:)
i heard an interview you had where you said that at first you weren’t planning on giving Trent a happy ending but then Trent did something that changed your mind. What did Trent do for you to think him worthy of a happy ending-not that i am complaining,i love Trent?also could that happy ending be him saving his species or him finally finding love?i doubt you’ll answer that but a hint would be nice(please!!!)
Thank you, Tamara. I’m really glad you’re enjoying my work. Ahhh, Trent and his happy ending. I can’t tell you what it is, or I’ll spoil it for you, but it shocked me. And it has nothing to do with Rachel, either.
~SIGH~ It was long and exaggerated too.
NOOOOOOOOOOO! I am a big supporter of the whole rachel/trent thing!!!!will we find out about his happy ending in Pale Demon or still more to go?also for Ivy’s HEA could it be Daryl? They seem to suit each other.
PS:are you sure there is no rachel some where in his happy ending?
ooh, ooh! I have more spoilery nitpicky questions!
Can demons nab you if you stand in a ley line? Does time of day (direction of energy flow) make a difference? Al doesn’t nab Rachel in Trent’s office, but he can pull her through in the park after their deal. Also, if you and Joe Demon are both using your second sight near by, can you talk to each other? Or do you have to be in a lay line to talk, too?
I found Al on Wiki the other day (or his twin brother, anyway *g*) and was wondering what the inspiration for Dali, Minias, and Newt’s names was.
Last question: If you don’t have a demon summoning name, can you just throw out an unspecific summons and get somebody at random? Or perhaps anyone could choose to answer? I was wondering because Al’s so secretive about his name, yet a lot of folks seem to know it anyway. How would someone like Tom find out about it?
Thanks!
Hi Lesley.
Yes, they can, if you’re using your second sight at the time. The can do it day or night. And a demon can nab you at any time if you agree to it, which is what Rachel does in the park. I’m not sure about talking, but I’d expect that you’d both have to be using your second sight, yes, and if you weren’t in a line, you wouldn’t be able to hear, but only see.
Very cool on finding Al’s inspiration. Dali is straight out of my head. Newt is from the Aliens movie. (Because she comes out at night. Mostly) And Minias is actually a name of a priest. My editor came up with that one.
You won’t get a demon unless you know their name. The connection won’t go through unless it’s exact. Which is why most demons don’t tell anyone in reality their name. Tom probably found Al’s name in an old text written by one of Al’s previous takes–before Al took him.
Hi, Lesley- Would you mind posting the link for the demon article you found via Wiki? I can’t seem to figure out what it is. Thanks!
I’m not Lesley – But here you go: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agaliarept
You know what would be cool for your upcoming release? Team Al and Team Trent T-shirts! I would buy both!! ~grin~
I’d buy them too! Maybe I’m gonna make some.
That would be sweet!!
I prefer these:
)
Rachels POV: “You’ll never know what my favourite cake is!” or “Trent Kalamack owns this (not)” (Yup, I stole them!
or
TEAM AL
TEAM -BIG- AL (evil grin)
TEAM TRENT
Team Ivy
I hear what you’re saying, Val, but I’ve got a beautiful T already planned. Mmmmmmm.
oooohh! I can’t wait to see it!!♥
Hi Kim,
I have never written to an author before but I just wanted to say Hi and that I love your series! I accidently discovered your books when the first one popped up as a free download on my Kindle and I normally hate romancey-type novels but I read the excerpt, figured I’d give it a try and I’m so glad I did! After getting attached to the charaters, I went on to buy the rest of the series because they are addictingly wonderful and now am a huge fan!!
After reading the latest one, I have to say that I would be a big fan of Rachel and Trent ending up together if and when you tie up the series, especially since watching how his character has evolved from the very beginning when I first got hooked on the series. I feel that they have so much chemistry and its so fun to watch them interact! I think Ivy, though I love her character, wouldn’t be right because eventually she would wind up becoming bound and that would totally go against Rachel’s inner spunk and personal freedom (which is why I love her!) Pierce is OK but I’m not buying that its gonna work out and AL, well at the end of the day he is still a demon, so that leaves the wonderfully hot and beautifully complex Trent
I have to say that what makes your books so good is that the main characters are complicated and multi-demensional like people in real life which makes them believable and also loveable. People love each other despite their flaws, which I think is why Rachel, Jenks and Ivy are such good friends and work so well together and I think it would work for Trent too. I know you can’t say what will happen, but if you ever take a fan vote, count me in on Team Trent! I think that sometimes the best love comes from the strangest of places and this seems to be one of those situations.
Anywho, whatever happens with Rachel’s love life, I’m sure I will love and I can’t wait for the next book to come out because I can’t seem to get enough of this series. Do you ever do book signings near Washington, DC? If so I would run out and get in line to get it signed simply because I think they are that good! Thanks so much for being a great author and please don’t stop writing anytime soon!
Have a great day!
~Anna
Thank you, Anna! I’m so glad you took a chance on the Hollows, and delighted that you enjoyed them so much. I had to chuckle when I read your comment about not liking romancy kind of books, because I’ve never thought of the Hollows as romance, even though a sizable chunk of my readership comes from there. Another chunk comes from the military, police, and firefighters. Apparently strong-willed, gutsy, and _likable_ female protagonist have a wide appeal. -grin-
I have no intention of ever stopping writing. It’s what I do. It’s my verb, my noun, and my adjective.
Someone told me once that you know you’re a writer when you can’t not write.
Hey Kim
i love your books they are absolutely amazing.I loved how you made the books and their characters very realistic.I was wondering who was rachel and trent hunting in the end of the book? Was it jonathon or someone else?(if it was someone else was it Dr. Anders?)
also when will the excerpt of Pale Demon coming out?thank you!!
Thanks, Ashley. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the books so much. Ahhhh, who were the dogs running down. I don’t really know myself, but my gut is telling me it was Jonathan. Trent is a nasty, vindictive man.
I’m expecting the excerpt to be available closer to the end of the year. Sorry!
I was thinking about that hunt as well. Jonathon is my best guess, but wouldn’t it be quite a nice twist if Nick were out there too? That big jerk!
Hi Kim,
Here’s another… I’m especially curious to know who “generous” Trent may have been in the contract he had for Rachel. I’m think that yeah she may have to work for & heed him for the rest of her life, however what were the perks? Can you give us specifics about the contract?
Thanks
-grin- That’s a great question, Vikki, but we will never know because Trent never brings it up again. Ever.
Hi Kim,
I’m curious to know what is the significance of Rachel making a lay line, and if us readers will get more info on that in the upcoming books?
Hi Vikki. Oh, it’s of great significance. It’s going to take several books to really get into it, but yes, we’ll get there.
Hi Kim,
First off I want to tell you how much I enjoy your books. I first discovered your series while I was in the hospital and I have to say one of my favorite parts are in the book WWBC where Rachel is sneaking out of the hospital.
I’ve been in and out of the hospital my whole life and you really managed to capture the way the children acted. The part where Rachel started to cry and said she broke a rule and the kids told her it was alright because there were no parents around really got to me. I started bawling. It just remained me so much of when I used to stay there.
Also the stuffed animal where she named them after friends in the hospital make me tear up. I never did that but I know what it’s like to wonder what happened to the kids I practically lived with for a few years of my life. It was very relatable and I was wondering if you talked to someone who spent a lot of time in the children’s ward or if you just guessed, because if you did, you certainly did a good job. (At least to me you did.)
I was also wondering that if in the next book, Pale Demon, are we going to learn more about what happened at the summer camp between Rachel and Trent. You gave us that flashback and now I’m dying to know more.
Lastly I wonder if Robbie is going to be in the next book. I kind of didn’t like him from how he seemed to be taking their mom away from Rachel just when she was getting better. I can see it from both perspectives though, on one hand Rachel was shunned and their mom couldn’t sell any of her charms anymore and she wanted to be closer to Takata, but on the other it seems kind of convenient for Robbie. First he left their broken mom in Rachel’s thirteen year old hands after their father passed and, now that she’s better, he comes to visit and he manage to convince her to leave. I don’t know, it seemed like he had only came to get their mom to go with him. Maybe that’s just me.
~Jezie
Hi Jezie.
Thank you. I’m really glad to hear that the books kept you entertained in your hospital stay, and I appreciate your words on how well I hit some of the emotions there. Much of the gut feelings came from my own childhood. I didn’t spend a lot of time there, but there was a girl I made friends with through the window in the isolation ward. I’ve often wondered if she survived, and she’s the basis for Jasmine. Rachel, at least, has a name. I just have an image of long dark hair and a smile.
As for Robbie? -grin- He’s not being very understanding, is he.
Hi kim!
I was wondering, will we find out more about the mysterious woman who sings in the Tokata songs that only undead vamps can hear? Can demons hear her too? And will Robby ever meet Big Al? If demons can change their glamour or looks why don’t they all look insanely good looking? Will we ever see Rachel at a demon party? Will Al be PO’d that Rachel can go to the ever-after and back without him or perhaps more importantly that she didn’t tell him? Also, will Rachel ever reveal to Al that she didn’t use vanity charms to look better as he obviously expects? I have more but I don’t want to bombard you all at once! Thanks for writing such a riveting world!
Hi Athena.
Oh! The singer is Ripley, Takata’s drummer. I thought I mentioned that somewhere, but maybe I didn’t. I’d be willing to bet that Al can hear the vamp track, which begs the question why Rachel can not.
I can almost guarantee that Robbie will not meet a demon. And I’ve no idea why demons don’t look insanely beautiful. Perhaps they have a different measuring stick for beauty than we do? I think Al would be tickled pink that Rachel can do something he can not. -grin- And as for the vanity charm? I doubt he really cares. He’s got other things on his mind.
The way you describe the demon males to me sound more handsome and earthy, “A big strong man.” Where the elves.. Yah, Trent is handsome but not in the same way. I remember at the place I used to work a tour came through that consisted of like 10 British men, who were so tall, broad and OMG! They smelled like a million bucks too!! I live in NorthEast Ohio and a lot oh the guys are short and stalky, my dad always called it the “farmers build”So around here if you see a big man, he turns heads. I bet those Brits could barely fit their egos on the plane when they went back home. ~grin~
Are we going to see more into the pixie world in the hollows? Jih having newlings? And how is she and her mate holding onto the land after keasley and ceri left? Will Jax get his up and comence? Will brown haired and hazel eyed Jumoke find respect and mate within the pixie society to have a clan of his own?
Hi KC.
We might, but it’s not looking good. I’m trying to tie up threads, and that’s a brand new one. As for Jax? -grin- That’s a thread I’m dying to bring back in the story.
Hi kim i adore your books they are amazing and i am a huge fan!! I have a couple of questions to ask you and i would be very grateful if you answered them:
why did trent in ‘the outlaw demon wails’ send jenks back with the elf tissue instead of going back himself? Does he like rachel and wanted to help her? also who is jasmine(i think thats her name)-the girl trent is trying to remember her name-and does she play an important role in the story?
In the third book EWWBD when trent was mirroring rachel while they were having dinner after the boat exploaded. Was trent copying her to manipulate her or did he really like her?
oo, hoho! Good question about Trent mirroring Rachel! I’m interested.♥
Thanks, Alex! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. You asked a few things.
Trent didn’t actually send Jenks back. Jenks was pulled out of the ever-after when the sun rose. I think he would have just assumed leave Rachel there, actually, but I think he’s starting to like her more, now.
Jasmine likely won’t be entering the story from here on out. I really think she died.
Mmmm, I do believe he was trying to manipulate her in EWWBD, a mistake he is now regretting.
Hi kim i adore your books and i was wondering does trent and rachel end up together and is he her HEA?Also who is your favorite male character in the story? AND are you planning to add trent in pale demon just to get rid of him? Sorry for all the questions, i am a huge trent fan.
OMGOsh, Tam! I can’t answer all that! -grin- I’d give everything away! I will say that we will see more of Trent as the series comes to a close. I’ve been enjoying writing about him again.
Hi Kim,
I noticed that Newt does not like to be touched by her intended “keepers/mates” too much and was wondering why? Is it because she doesn’t want to produce a witch child? Can Rachel being a demon ( and demons can reproduce with anything) engender a child with an elf?
Hi KC. You’re right that she doesn’t like to be touched, and I think it’s because she’s been manipulated and betrayed so much in the past. Rachel can easily produce a child between her and a demon or witch. If she wanted, she could do the same with an elf, but it would take magic.
HI Kim
I adore your Hollows series. Wonderful characters and story lines. With the popularity of the Sookie Stackhouse series on cable is there any talk of Rachael getting a series on television? I think these books would make a great series. Would rather get to see Rachel and Jenks every week than only in movies!
Thanks, Melba. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books! There’s been several casual inquires, but nothing to make me sit up and take notice. It may be that the Hollows is not suited for film.
I see that alot of people ask you about saving Ivy’s soul. Saving Ivy’s soul has been a constant throughout the series. Everyone has an idea, and you often answer that you have 3-4 ideas of your own. When I think of Rachel finding a way to “save” Ivy, or any vampire, I guess I think of Rachel discovering a way to separate “living” vampires from the soulless undead. That is, allowing a vampire to live a mortal life, soul intact, until the day they die a final death, rather than passing on to a second immortal life, with or without a soul. Would you ever consider this idea as a solution? Thanks.
I, too, considered that. But I also wondered if Ivy would be happy with life as a mortal, especially if she could still remember and, to an extent, feel what is was like as a living vamp. Would she miss the speed, strength, overall enhanced abilities?
I consider living vamps mortal, Shiana. It’s when they die their first death, that they become “Potentially” immortal. I wouldn’t want Ivy to become Human unless she really wanted that. Sorry for the confusion.
I don’t know, Antonio. I have some definite ideas of what I’d like to see, and those take precedence.
Hey Kim,
Really dont have any questions this time around. I just wanted to say thanks for your books. I actually started writing myself and your books are what inspired me to returned to my passion. Its been well 2 years since I actually sat down and wrote something with the intent to create a beautiful story. I incorporated a few tiny ideas of yours only because you’re the first writer who’s actually pulled of the persona of a vamp that I actually like (stupid Twilight). I also kinda worked up a lycan/were character kinda similar to Ivy in some ways but nowhere near her in most.
I dont think I’ll ever be able to compete with the work of beauty that inspired me, but I just wanted to thank you. I hope I can at least brighten a few people’s lives like the Hollows series has done for thousands.
Much love
Thanks, Lindsey. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the books. That’s fantastic that you write. I hope it sticks with you. If it suits you, there is nothing better. Good luck!

-grin- I was afraid to go look until I saw the address.
Thanks, Mud!
First off, I love your books Kim and think you are wonderful!! I love how the characters have grown and changed, and this is by far one of my favorite series ever. I have been looking forward to FEBRUARY for many years now
I’m on team AL, although I love Trent too and their relationship and enjoy the undercurrent between him and Rachel as well. So…questions:
Will we get to see the meaning behind the blue butterfly crystalis (sp) that Al gave to Rachel?
Does Al have it in him to see Rachel as an equal eventually? And maybe possible for Rachel to give him another reason to live besides doing his job and being all demon-y. LOL
Thanks for all that you do Kim!!!!!!!! much love and many blessings to you and yours
Thanks, Lauren! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Team Al, eh? -grin- You are not alone. You asked a few questions.
I really want to know what the blue butterflies are. I don’t know yet. I think they are tied to Al’s personal growth. He’s going to be a lot of fun in these next few books as he tries to figure out if it’s love, lust, or (OMG!!) Respect that he’s feeling for Rachel. Somehow, I think love would be easier for a demon than respect.
Aaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!!! I freakin love it!!
Yeah, I’d love it.. I would, if I didn’t think that just because it IS harder lovely Kim Harrison will pick up the Respect-part, instead of the love. Too bad, but though I’m curious and want to see what comes next, even if it’s not the way I’d like to have it right now, and hell, I guess it will be satisfying anyway.
I trust Miss Kim. I always enjoy the books no matter what.♥
Hi Kim,
another question that came to my mind:Will Ivy’s mother play a bigger role in future books?
Have a good day!
Hi Wuebbi. Probably not, but you never know. I have a few plot lines where she could make an appearance.
Hello there Kim, I just wanted to start out and say I adore your series. Especially the demons and the vampires, your way of setting everything up is just fantastic. I have a few questions and don’t know where to post them… I suppose they are spoilers since they are questions about future books. I’ll get right to it then.
1. In WWBC we dealt with Banshees and I have to say, I love them. So much. Will we meet anymore Banshees in your future books, perhaps have a banshee character who sticks around for a while and doesn’t just try to kill Rachel and Ivy? They seem a bit rare to me, since we’ve never even had them mentioned before. Also, everyone seems more scared of them than demons which is just… fantastic!
2. Demons deal with souls… Ivy wants to keep her soul after death. Is it possible Al, or even Newt, could assist Rachel in making sure Ivy retains her soul after her first death?
3. I know a lot of people have asked about Rachel and Ivy ending up together and you don’t seem to know, but I have to ask… will Ivy have her own HEA? And do you think it will be with a female or a male? I guess I like the idea of Ivy and Glenn when it came up in BMS but I’ve always loved Ivy for her kick ass personality and also, I admit, because she was bisexual. I am a lesbian and I don’t read many books, especially urban fantasy ones, with a female character who likes other females and who isn’t always just off having sex with them etc. etc. I know Rachel and Ivy might very well not end up together, but she will have her own HEA right? She deserves it, after all the crap she has gone through.
4. I think this will be my last question for now, I can’t really think haha. Are we going to meet any other female demons? I know in the series it is said Newt killed them all, but if they were so powerful and are stronger than male demons (that is how it seems) how is it Newt managed to kill every last one? Is it possible one or more of them is in hiding?
Oh and sorry, I lied. I have one more question!
5. In BMS Rachel burns off the Fairy’s wings and convinces them to go live in Kalamacks gardens. Sidereal agrees as long as one of his own can stay behind to watch over Rachel, in order to easily kill her if she betrays them. Are we going to meet this fairy who was left behind? And will it be the female fairy he was always talking to? She seemed like she was also in charge in a way, kind of behind the scenes. Every time you mentioned him talking to another fairy it was always to a female… I would love to have a female fairy character in the series as well.
They also seem pretty rad, like banshees!
Anyways, that is all I have for now. Again, love your series. ‘Specially love Ivy, and your demons, and banshees, and fairies. Haha, happy writing, and I can’t wait until Pale Demon comes out!
Hi Absit.
Wow! A lot of questions. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the books so much. Thank you!
1. I like the idea behind the banshees. I might bring them back, I might not. I don’t know which way I’m going with a few issues.
2. having the demons help with Ivy’s soul is one way I could go, yes. There’s about four different ways, and I don’t know yet. (banshees are one)
3. One of my goals is for Ivy to have a HEA, and I’d rather she be female, yes. Having a bi character who lusts after another female, then ends up with a guy leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Why can’t she end up with a female?
4. Newt is the only female demon in existence, but we might hear about one.
5. Yes, we will be meeting Belle. -grin-
Excellent! I was wondering if Banshees could possibly help with souls as well, since Holly taught Mia the ability to push auras and energy into people then that would be like giving them their souls, yes? Ah Banshees just keep getting cooler and cooler in my mind.
And another excellent on Belle! Woo! I can’t wait to read your next few books, they are so wonderful. I’m hoping when I finally managed to get publish mine are as good as yours.
Thanks so much again Kim, and have a great day.
Heeeeey Kim!
I’d just like to start this off with saying I love you. I love your books, and I love how you reply to everyone’s comments–regardless of weather you answer our questions or not.
Second off, I’d like to say that if these became movies, I would love you forever verses your current 20 year obsessive contract. I WOULD hunt you down and kill you though if the movies turned out like crap.
Anyways, I love Al. Best character ever. I have a few questions concerning him and demon society in general.
1. Will we get to know what all really looks like soon? Or was his true form the one he showed to Treble?
2. It seems that in many instances Rachel is actually more demon than witch. With that in mind, isn’t it more likely that she can’t have children with witches, but rather demons?
3. Keeping that in mind, if it surfaced that she couldn’t have children with witches, would Al be assigned to have children with her like Minias was for Newt?
4. Is Al going to grow closer to Rachel throughout the series, since ultimatley the chances are that she is going to leave reality sooner or later?
5. How many books are in the series all together?
Thanks for answering in advance, I will never understand how you find time for this.
Hi, Sarah. You need to think about what you fling out there onto the internet. I can only imagine you are trying to be funny, but threatening someone isn’t funny.
1. You asked about Al. I don’t know.
2. Rachel can have kids with witches or demons. It doesn’t matter.
3. That’s ugly. Being assigned to have kids with someone. I’m not going there.
4. I don’t know.
5. 12 to 13.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks.
Eeep! Sorry, I’m one of those people who talks before they think. No offense was intended there.
No worries, Sara!
Hello Kim,
At the beginning of the series Al seemed to be the embodiment of fear and evil, as an entity who killed and enslaved many. Through most the books Rachel is horrified by Al, but lately she has developed a casual friendship with the demon despite their past (and his nature). Al’s character has also become softer towards Rachel – Al was angered when Nick summand Rachel, has become more receptive to the terms on Rachel’s lists and acts as a form of back-up for some of her adventures.
1. With the right loophole would Al still try to take Rachel as a familiar/kill her?
2. Why does Al keep pushing for Rachel to cohabitate with him in the ever-after?
3. Is Rachel beginning to consider Al more of a friend than necessary evil?
4. Given her past, how does Ceri feel about Rachel and Al’s relationship?
Hi Watson.
Al is one of those characters I developed as a big-bad-ugly, but as Rachel has grown and faced her fears, he has naturally had to shift his character a bit. I don’t think that Al will try to kill Rachel at this point, no. She has too much value, and we saw what happened when he tried to use her as a familiar. The co-habitation thing ties in with her new value, more than a sexual desire. And yes, I think Rachel is starting to feel more comfortable around Al as she realizes she has as much potential power as he does. As for Ceri? I think she knew what was coming that day she sat on the floor of the sanctuary and taught Rachel how to make a calling circle.
Hi Kim: Loved that you mentioned my hometown Sacramento in the last book. MY bff Amy and I were very disappointed you were not in the norcal area this last book signing….. maybe next year……. Pleasanton or SF again…….. Let’s hope. Take care!
Hi Lilly. I was ecstatic I even got out to the west coast this year at all!
But as you say, maybe next year.
Dear Ms. Harrison,
I just started reading your books (four books in six days or to be more precise in six nights ! Guess my employer is wondering why I am looking so exhausted).
The next ones are ordered
I guess that shows how much I enjoy your writing and the story. One of my favourite characters is Kisten so I was in a state of shock when I realized that he is dead. And that’s the question that follows me
Is he really dead or do you plan to involve him again in one of your following books? Or must I give up hope?
Thank you in advance for reading and answering my question. And please apologize my English. As you certainly guessed right I’m not a native English speaker.
Hi SK,
Wow, thank you! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the books so much! You area a reading animal! -grin-
You asked about Kisten. He is really and truly dead, and I miss him more the deeper I get into the series. However . . . the graphic novels are set in a time when he is still alive. And in a tub with Ivy. -laugh- Look for the first the summer of 2011. You might have to special order it if you’re not in the US. And your English is wonderful!
I just hopped on Amazon to check out reviews/sales for BMS. I noticed the guy, Ray Olson, who did a Booklist review of BMS says in the last line of his review something to the effect that he would have liked it more if it had sex in it, and then he says “sorry, romance fans, no sex for Rachel” in this one…!!!!!????? Huh? Obviously, he didn’t read ALL the book, right? I mean it’s a prominently featured review too. Pisses me off. The local Dayton,OH reviewer (newspaper) obviously hadn’t read the book either, but at least his review was positive, if not “vague.”
Anyway–are you surprised/dismayed that people who professionally review art and get ARCs don’t take their job seriously enough to actually read the books?
Hi, Antonio.
Of course I’m disappointed that the review from booklist wasn’t more favorable, but when the reviewer equates sex with filth (which it sounded to me like he did) I’m not going to grant his views much weight to begin. His statement that there was no sex for Rachel makes me wonder if he even read the book, because there was a sex scene, and the reviewer clearly stated there wasn’t. Which leads me to believe that his review was done on heresy, not an actual read-through, which is sad.
If reviews are done with cursory flip-throughs, then yes, my work will likely come across as candy. It’s not in the flip-throughs that my style shines, it’s in the subtleties. I don’t write for the flip-through-ers, I write for you guys, and you guys have made your feelings very clear.
