I can’t find the original question, so ill redo. Someone asked earlier if it was possible for a demo. And an elf to have a child. I’m assuming they were speaking of Trent and Rafael. You said no, however, I remember you having a conversation similar to this a while back, and you said it was possible for Rafael to have children with any species because of the curses she can perform. Is this still possible?

  2. chris

To answer your question about them moving out I don’t remember what book. It was but jenks bought the church and was having them pay rent there

  3. Lisa

    Hi Kim,
I know your trying to close threads but I’m curious if we will see the wolf packs from the Focus storyline? (sorry I don’t have my library at the ready to reference book).I found it interesting how much the alpha disliked Trent. One last question. Will we see Rachel and Jenks moving out of the church in the upcoming book? Thanks

    Hello again Ms. Kim Harrison!!
I had two questions pop-up when leafing through GBU.
1)Al gave Rachel a safe summoning. Like he wouldn’t kill her if there wasn’t a circle. Did he mean that just because he wouldn’t kill her, that he still would take her regardless?
    2) Exactly when did Al figure out that Rachel was a demon and her kids would be, too?
    Thank you!!

Oh and I just got another question from EA. In the scene where Trent, Rachel, and Al are fighting off Ku’Sox, had it been a
bro-bonding moment for Trent and Al? I doubt it, but I couldn’t help asking.
      Thank you!

    • Hi Janine. Safe summoning means just that. No stealing, no killing.
I’m not exactly sure when he knew for sure. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on that. Sorry.
And yes, Al was reminded what it was like to work with an elf, trust him, maybe. I think it scared him.

  5. Dear Ms Harrison,

I’ve recently started reading the Hollows series after hearing my son rave about it, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Right now I’m in the middle of Every Which Way But Dead, and I have a question that I just have to ask. Thanks to the kidlet, I already know about Takata’s relationship to Rachel, so I was wondering about the woman on the vamp tracks of his CDs. Is that Rachel’s mother? If not, will the truth about her be revealed? Kidlet said he didn’t think it had been included in the books so far, so I figured it was worth asking.

    Thanks!

Hi! I just finished reading the new short stories from Into the Woods and I want to know/read more about Grace! She captured my attention almost as quickly as Rachel, and I know The Hollows will end (sad face) so my thoughts turned to Grace! What a interesting idea about her powers and story line! I want more! Please please please say she’ll make more appearances in the future! Thanks for all the great entertainment!

  7. Nj

Hi Kim. Please make Rach and Trent live happily ever after TOGETHER FOREVER please. Pretty pretty pretty pleaaaaaase!?

Sigh. 2014 why are you so far away? I cant wait for the next books!

  8. Becca

I can’t help but think, wouldn’t the elven prince being with a demon(who has made herself somewhat of a representative for demon kind) be a great way to achieve peace? Though I understand the elves wouldn’t like and the demons even less so since I’m sure they see Rachel as breeding stock. Like way back when countries would marry off their princesses to rival countries to create peace

  9. janine16

    Hi Ms. Kim!!
A question of the end of EA popped into my head out of nowhere when I was doing absolutely nothing . . .At the end when Trent and Rachel kissed, I wondered of what Trent’s thoughts were like if he regretted kissing her or was he happy that he got to kiss her since in the APB chapter in his POV he had wanted too . . .?
    Thanks😊
    - Janine

  10. Janine 16

    Ms. Harrison!!!! :-)
I was just finished rereading EA and a question popped to mind when reading the part where Nick is apologizing to Rachel and how his act on revenge went to far . . . Was he genuinely apologetic, or was he just concerned of his own ass?

Kim – I just finished Ever After.. LOVED IT!.. Reading the hollows is my getaway and I look forward to each book. Thank you for keeping the characters interesting and true to who they were when I started the series. I can’t wait for the next book and I’m excited to see where Trent and Rachel go with this. I loved your thoughts using Rachel between Al and Trent. to make her a powerful weapon to fight KuSox. Anxiously waiting for the next book!
    Liz

    • Hi Liz. Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I can’t wait to get this next one out, too.

      • Liz

Kim – I downloaded the Sony app for my Ipad when you mentioned that The Trent and Rachel story would be available to download as a special. Is that story available for Amazon too? Are you planning to release that in another anthology or as part of the new book? I don’t really use the Sony app and I do like to read your stories more than once. Thanks!

  12. Brenda

Ms. Harrison…just wanted to add my compliments to the many others regarding the Rachel Morgan series. I am in my mid-60′s and quite enjoyed the reads, as Rachel’s character evolved from ‘loose cannon’ to mature and self confident. I am like minded with many of your fans the Rachel’s HEA lays with Trent, who also proves to be an interesting character study. Kudo’s on Ivy’s storyline and showing Al is more than just a demon. I look forward to book 12 in 2014. Blessings and a most appreciative thank you for sharing your brilliant talent with us.

  13. Angel

    Kim,
I am in withdrawls too. Do you have any short stories on the Hollows coming out before the next book?

  14. Janine 16

    Hi again!!
Another quicky question. . . When Trent had asked Rachel if she could “forgive him for his choices” and she says she already has and then she comments to herself of how his face was unreadable. . . What HAD been his thoughts? Did he feel like a weight had lifted?
Thjanks anew! Hope your day is pleasant :-)

  15. Racquel

    Hi Kim,
I had some questions. First,I love your books. I really love the series. My favorite part about it is the growth of all the characters. Ivy is one of my favorites and the Graphic novels are wonderful.

So Rachel’s been doing her best over the last few books of letting Ivy go but I kind of wonder… Yes Rachel is strong enough now that she doesn’t need Ivy and Jenks to protect her from everything, but she still
needs someone who loves her and understands her. She needs someone who she loves and who will let her be herself.
There is a lot of reasons why Rachel and Ivy have pulled back but I wonder lately if a lot of those problems might not really be as much an issue anymore. A lot has changed. Rachel is stronger and so is Ivy

    Can Rachel even be bound?
Even though their relationship is on a hold it feels like in some ways they ‘re closer. They talk more. Ivy is more open.
Rachel openly admitted to Wayde that she loved her. It feels like Rachel has almost given up on Love for herself and she just want’s the person she loves to be happy.

I guess I just don’t see why Rachel still feels like Ivy and her can’t work. Has she seriously evaluated that lately?

Also it’s been hinted a few times about a connection between Rachel and Ivy since they shared blood. Like Ivy’s aura covering her and Ivy sensing some things from Rachel a few times . Will that be explored in the next books?

Why didn’t Felix’s compulsion not work?
    Last what happened to Wayde?
Thanks so much. I just love your books.

    • Hi Racquel. Wow, you’ve got a lot of good insight and theories, and some great questions. I think you are seeing Ivy and Rachel in the light I wanted to cast them in, both stronger, both healthier in their choices. I didn’t want to give the impression that Rachel was giving up on love, just not physical love with Ivy. To be honest, it probably scared the crap out of her when Ivy almost killed her in a moment of passion. That’s hard to come back from and find trust.
Wayde went back to work for Takata, and Rachel’s a demon–vampires can’t bespell her unless she wants them to.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  16. Becca

Hi kim! I was wondering, will we get any sneak peaks of book 12? Will the first chapter be released early as usual? If so do you know when that will be? I’m dying of hollows withdrawal! I think I’ve read all the books atleast 3 times and I didn’t know they existed before November of last year!

    • The marketing for every book is different, Becca, and I usually don’t know what they are going to do until right before they do it, but I think it’s a safe guess that something will be released early. I’m just now starting on the editorial rewrite, so don’t look for it any time soon.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  17. chris

I have posted here before but out of curiosity as I am a father myself I was wondering if there will be more on jax’s and jenks mending relationship?

  18. Diva

    Hi Kim,

I’m currently listening to A Perfect Blood on audiobook during my commute to work (just finished Pale Demon and Ever After is up next). A little Hollows somehow makes enduring traffic congestion a bit easier. I have a question about the beautiful coat that Belle made for Jenks. Belle implied that it was more fancy than a coat meant for everyday wear. Will we see him get to wear it before the series ends?

Hmm. I had something else I wanted to ask but the question has completely flown out of my head. Ah well….

  19. OK for one I absolutely love your books. EA was just captivating.
I may have over looked this. But is 13 the last book?

  20. Julia Hall

When the hollows series is complete (which I will be utterly devastated by the way), what are the chances or running a spin off or side series involving the characters? I just don’t think I can let go! lol

    • Diva

I’d settle for the occasional short story. :)

    • Probably pretty low, Julia. By the end of the summer, I should have two complete manuscripts of different worlds I’ve been kicking around for a while. Maybe a short story here and there.

      • Julia Hall

Too bad they can’t extend it another 2-3 more books! I’m really loving Trent and Rachel and I kinda wish everything had happened sooner to be able to cherish it more! Alas, it has been a wonderful series and even the short stories will help in the closure that a lot of us will be gushing over! I cannot wait on the next book!!! The two different worlds on the next series, are we sticking with the supernatural realm? You are fantabulous on writing on supernatural species!!

      • Hi Julia. Yep. I’m continuing on with the magic. That’s where I started writing, and I see no reason to change it. :-)

  21. In Ever After, the chrysalis was mentioned more than usual and I am wondering if it will ever ‘hatch’? Is it going to be playing into the next two books?

  22. Hi Kim,
I’m a huge fan – can’t wait to read what comes next! Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn’t find it: what does ta na shay mean?
Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • It roughly means “I see you” or “I petition your awareness” or “Look at me” Sort of like Namaste, but on a more one-to-one, personal basis rather than cosmic.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks Andi!

  23. janine16

    Hi Ms. Harrison! Me again!
I’ve been keeping rereading your Hollows series off because my dear mother was worried I was to occupied to do homework. Which I was. But anyways, I have finally finished high school, and a year early to boot, and I’m gonna go on a reading binge!
    And also, quick question:
How had Pierce known it was Trent Rachel was looking into, so to speak?
    Thank you!!
    -Janine16

    • janine16

And oh yes, before I forget again, Rachel discovers Nick is involved with the kidnapped rosewood babies by in which it was the blue old pick up truck with the messed up passenger door, but then I got confused. didn’t the truck fall off the Mackinaw Bridge, or am I trippin’?

    • Hi Janine. Congrats on graduating! Go you!! You asked about Pierce. Oh, he just knew. He saw the way Trent looked at her and figured it out.
Also, though Nick did go over the bridge, he wasn’t in his blue Ford truck at the time. It was a different vehicle.

  24. Shay.

SQUEE. I cannot tell you how happy I was with book 11. Just…incredible. Finally got some true Rachel and Trent action. BOOYAH! My question is with all the little heart flutters and butterflies in her tummy that she constantly kept getting from Trent, is that her falling in love with Trent or is she already in love with him? Better yet, does she even realize it? I do doubt that she know she loves him – like like yes, but not luuuurve – because we never got the HOLYTINK’SNUTS moment from her. I’m wondering if she would graciously accept it or freak out.
And also, will Rachel truly help Ivy get her soul? Oh! And are the rings going to play another role?
I am so excited for book 12 & 13! Sigh. It’s going to be worth the wait!

    • Hi Shay! My gosh, you are as excited as I am! I can’t answer anything you asked because of spoilers, but as we like to say around our house “Things are getting better.” (From the movie, The Postman.)

  25. Lanimo

    Hello again Kim,
I’m just getting to read Ever After, and I have a quick question. When Rachel and Pierce are in Newts kitchen, and Pierce says, “I’d rather kill him.” Is he referring to KuSox or to Trent. When he saw Rach had the elven chastity rings, his attitude changed rather quickly. Sorry if you’ve answered this before, and I’m sure ill have many more questions to come.
Thanks for doing that thing you do!
    Lanimo

    • Hi Lanimo. Ku’Sox, of course. He fears for Rachel making a mistake after looking at her past track record, but she’s making better decisions, and Trent is not his father.

  26. Grace

    Hi Kim!
You are a master story teller and the story just keeps getting better and better! I was able to read the Hollows series back to back up to Ever After and boy did I get spoiled – now I have to wait!! I can’t wait until Trouble on Reserve becomes more widely available and am so looking forward to books 12 & 13!
One question: I was just wondering in the spell hut when Rachel and Trent are playing the ‘what are you looking for in a partner game’, Trent says ‘Oh that’s just a business arrangement.’. Was he was referring to a potential marriage to Ellsabeth (shudder) as opposed to his relationship with Rachel? I think Rachel took it to mean he was referring to her.
I also can’t wait to read more Grace stories (I’ve never had super powers before *big grin*)

    • Thank you, Grace! I’m so pleased you are enjoying my work. I’m looking forward to books 12 and 13, too. :-)
Ahhh, see, that’s the thing. What do you think? I left it ambiguous intentionally.

      • Grace

As I said – a master story teller :0). Thanks for taking the time to reply and I’ll go with the marriage as a business arrangement – it might not even come to pass. And back to waiting……:0)

  27. Neves

Hi. I was rereading some of the books and I started to think about 2 things:
    1. What was Trent going to say to Rachel in the elevator before they started that hole discussion that she is always mad at him. Will we ever know or did you drop the subject?
    2. “I understand the strain you’re under,” she said, chin high as Lucy’s hand patted her face. “So the door of friendship is still open between us. You mean a lot to Trent. He explained to me what happened at camp, and I understand your feelings for him.” Will we ever know what happened at camp or what Trent told Ellasbeth? If ha knows what happened at camp why didn’t he remember the name of the girl from camp that was Rachel friend?

Thank you for the amazing books.
I’ve just started reading the Madison Avery books and I’m hooked. You’re writing is without a doubt simply exquisite.

    • Hi Neves.
      1. We’ll never know for sure.
      2. Probably not, but we’ll see. Things change a lot in my rewrites. Memory blockers are funny stuff. I remember things all the time without remembering the names of people. Family reunions, anyone? :-)
I’m glad you’re enjoying my work. Thanks!

  28. Shavonne

So after reading Ever After (which I loved by the way) it seems pretty clear that Al and Rachel won’t be getting together, which makes sense but also makes me sad. So my big question is, I know that Rachel will be having a happy ending at the end but will Al? I really hope so, he and Jenks were always my favorite characters and he seems so tired and lonely that I really just want him to have his happily ever after.

    • Thank you, Shavonne. I’m so glad you liked it. I’ve got an ending in mind for Al, yes, and it is as happy as he’s going to get. -grin- Tired and lonely he is, and he won’t be by the end. That sounds pretty happy to me.

  29. Raechel

Hi Kim :) .. Loved EA and can’t wait for number 12! So I love details and its the smallest ones that catch my interest. In the last chapter when Rachel is looking over Trent’s shelves, there was a pot with a fingerprint in the glaze. Is it a pot that Rachel made and Trent thought it was worth having it as a keepsake? Thanks, have a great day!

    • Hi Raechel. Thanks! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the books! I can’t wait for 12 either. I’m glad you noticed the pot. I’m not planning on ever making that clear, but it is a question I wanted to be out there. I don’t know myself.

  30. Aubretia

Hi Kim. Like so many others before me, I just have to say I love your series. I’m so glad that you’ve been allowed to write so many books. Re-reading the books and seeing how your characters have evolved is as much fun as reading about their adventures in the individual books. Thank you so much for building the characters slowly enough that us readers can keep up with their emotional development. It makes them seem so much more real.

I just have a quick question that I’ve been puzzling over. In Ever After, at the end of chapter 14, Rachel and Trent have had a little heart to heart in her kitchen (he brings over donuts and suggests that she look through the elven museum catalogue). As he is leaving, he stands on the steps outside the church and looks at Rachel, then whispers “Down, I think,” nods to himself and leaves. Was he going to kiss her? It’s probably obvious, but I’m like Rachel in that I really don’t know! I love this scene because the way you’ve written it really made me feel like Rachel, standing on the steps, looking at Trent wondering what was about to happen and feeling all confused about the situation. If you could please put me out my misery and let me know what you think Trent was thinking I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks. Looking forward to the next book :) .

    • Thank you, Aubretia. I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the books so much. You had a question.
Trent was talking about how he liked her hair best, up or down, and he was thinking about kissing her, but he knew better than to try at that point. He was waiting.
I’m glad you felt that way. That was exactly what I was going for. Thank you!

  31. Angie D

    Hi,
I am trying to find the book with the sentence ‘ Ivy had to go lean on some uppity vamps. Thanks.

  32. Tiffiney Harwell

    Hi,
Mrs Harrison I want to say that,Im so totally happy about EA,you did a phenomenal job, I was down in the dumps after reading spoilers on my Favorite authors last book coming out this week,I was so disapointed in her that Im not going to buy herlast book in that seeies even though I have all 12.I just want to say that she has been replaced with you, I already owned books 1-10,and EA is one of my favorites now, going out now to buy the companions.Keep doing a great job..oh i love Trent/Rachel relationship

    • Hi Tiffiney. You’ve really put me in a hard spot. I’m honored that you are enjoying my work, but judging a book by it’s ending without having read it is a dangerous proposition. A skilled writer can make any ending fabulous, but you have to travel the path the author sets down before deciding if they were successful in making that ending work.
I wouldn’t give up on DEAD EVER AFTER. Authors are not ice cream. You can have lots of favorites, and you can partake of more than one at a time. Our work isn’t fattening, either.

      • Tiffiney Wood

        Thanks Mrs.Harrison,
Im so honored that you responded…I told everyone at work, Lol…you are right I should give the book the benefit of the doubt to at least find closure and see how she got to that point, I guess I felt I was taking on a long 13 year ride and I didn’t end up where the map directed me.I respect the other Author a lot, she drew me into her world & I loved it and her characters so much. I just bought into the woods last night going to look for the other graphic novels..Thank you again for responding and giving me a viewpoint of an author.(but the other Author has been bumped down on the list of my fav Authors)kinda took me on a ride to a dead end : (

      • Keith

I am glad I read the last book, but I have to say I was really disappointed. It was like she ran out of gas and just slapped together an ending without any effort. It ruined the whole series for me.

  33. hi .i just read your response to my question and so here i am . my question is about a bad guy. I read about piscary killing kisten and i want my character named francios leporwhittz( annie’s father)and she has to kill her own father. can you help me? i’ve written down about three possible plots and they all look good. is there a way to piece them together into one and how? this will be the end of my book before i turn it onto a disk copy(it’s all in my handwriting).thank you so very much for guiding me on writing my first book.

    • Hi Timothy. OMGosh, I know I said ask your question, but I didn’t know it was going to be so far reaching.

You’re looking for long-term, extended help on your work, not a simple how-to question, and unfortunately I can’t give you the assistance that a good writer critique group can over the span of a year or more. This is why one of my standard pieces of advice is to find a group to read your work to. They can help you decide how to structure your work, but it won’t be over a day, or even a week. This is far-reaching structure that you’re looking for, and it might take some time.

But don’t give up! Find yourself a critique group by asking at coffee shops, bookstores, libraries, anywhere they have free WiFi and coffee. That’s where the groups usually meet.
And good luck! You sound dedicated.

  34. Kristy Jo

Hi Kim, My bad on the description. I read your book when it first came out and I didn’t have it handy when I wrote to you. My memory isn’t so good, but I will find the scene I am thinking about and will re-write my comment. I just found this forum so I jumped right in.

  35. janine16

Hi MS. HARRISON!!! I was just re-reading EA and on page 56, Rachel and Trent are riding through his forest in search for Nick and while they are talking, Rachel says,” Ceri might be right.” Then Trent reaches over to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear and asks,” About what?” I was wondering if Trent had heard Ceri and Rachel arguing over Rachel’s crush on him. And, if he had, would it be possible that Trent was hoping for Rachel to make a move on him, so to speak.
Thank you!! Have a great day!
    -Janine:)

    • Hi Jaine. I don’t think he over heard them, no, but that he is touching her is pretty significant, don’t you think? :-)
You have a great day, too.

      • Lesley

I still remember the scene where she tried to touch his hair and he freaked out so bad he ended up on the other side of a bridge…so I’d say he’s come quite a long way!

  36. Kristy Jo

Hi Kim, I read most of the comments above and didn’t see a question that I was wondering about. In EV when Ceri dies, you mention a crystal in Rachel’s kitchen window and how mysteriously it glowed. (sorry, I don’t have the book with me for the exact description). Anyway, is it possible that Ceri found a way to store her soul in the crystal and is just waiting for someone to figure it out? Love your books and Rachel’s life and adventures.

    • Kristy, Ahh, I never mentioned a glowing crystal in Rachel’s kitchen window. There is a chrysalis, which is butterfly or moth cocoon, but it never glowed.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  37. Misty

I have read EVER AFTER and it answered many questions, but not all
1 where the demons and elves allies, and if so what did the demons do to make the elves enslave them.
2 Is Trent the only wild mage or are there others, the magicians seem to be the ones who interbred with humans
3 Can humans use wild magic or only purebred elves ,since it seemed that Rachel needed the goddesses aid to use wild magic
4 Why are the demons tied to the everafter, what went wrong
5 How would you describe and compare demons and elves as well as there relationship with each other
6 How does wild magic work, is it as strong as demon magic
7 Why did the demons alter there true appearance

    • Hi Misty. I’ve got two more books to go, so some of your questions might be answered there.
      1. You’ll have to wait.
      2. All elves can do wild magic.
      3. Only elves and demons.
      4. Because the elves were trying to kill them, as the demons were trying to kill the elves, and the ever-after was never intended to last more than a week.
      5. That sounds like an essay question for an exam, and I don’t do those anymore. -laugh-
      6. Stronger because it involves faith and belief.
      7. To better survive. Man is built for war, and demons were not.

  38. Jennifer

    Me too, me too!!! :)

  39. Hey Kim just finished EA and LOVED it! sooo much happened and so many things changed it was almost hard to keep up! It was interesting to see Ivy and Jenks somewhat in the background as Rachel had little choice but to step out and do things on her own, go places that they couldn’t follow.
I was really saddened by Ceri’s death my heart broke for Quen who loved her so much it was almost Kisten all over again, you said Rachel would get her HEA and I’m having a hard time seeing it through all the loss but I trust you I’m sure it will find a way out :)
Also I was wondering so that moment at the end of EA with Trent and all those feelings did that seal Rachels fate then and Al is no longer a viable option for her? I mean she is a demon too, and in a way her and Al could make sense…. but I just felt like with they way Trent and her were talking, describing what they were each looking for in someone they were obviously describing eachother, and then that kiss OY! Talk about fire! But then there is the whole complication with Ellisbeth it almost felt as though still neither of them were ever going to work out for several resasons….

SO i guess my question really is, do you already know who is Rachel’s HEA and is it between Trent and Al? or is someone going to come out of the woodwork at this late hour and take us all by surprise??

    • Hi Erin. Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed EVER AFTER.
Although a lot of readers have told me they like Al as Rachel’s HEA, I’ve personally never seen it. Al likes her, maybe loves her, but Rachel does not love him. I just don’t see it.
But as for her HEA? You’ll just have to wait and see. But I will point out that it’s not my style to spring things on the reader. It took three books for Ivy and Rachel to get together, and then almost three to back off, so the threads of the final book are already down on the page. I just have to pick them up and start weaving.

      • Now…I´m sad :-(
But that doesn’t lessen a drop of my admiration and love for your writing and yet, I can’t wait for book 12!

      • Kim-
I can see what you mean about Al, I never really subscribed to him being Rachel’s HEA either but I thought the deal was sealed until Kisten died! but I can totally understand you reasoning behind that as well and respect your decision as author and godess over all that is Hollows ;)
I never really thought of Trent to fill the roll either but after just reading Into the Woods finally and “Million Dollar Baby” especially I can see it in him and could accept it if that is how things turn out hehe. I totally am still waiting with baited breath and not expecting anything understanding that HEA could mean many different things for Rachel at this point!
Thank you so much you are always so good to your readers and it is appreciated
        Can’t wait for book 12
        Sincerely
        Erin

While Al has grown on me throughout the books (although I still can’t get over his actions in book 2), I do not see it either. I trust which ever way Kim goes, but I have to say I am a strong Trent supporter!!!

  40. Ok, first off, I LOVE your writing Kim! I’ve spread the word and have given others your books to read and got them hooked! :D
Now, I don’t know if you’ve said/answered this elsewhere, but what do each of these words mean exactly? Sa’Han, Tal Sa’han, and Mal Sa’han. Thank you and I can’t wait for the next book to be released!!!

    • Thank you, Jessica! I really appreciate that. Sa’han is a non-gender specific honorific, like sir or madam. Tal Sa’han is sort of the person the Sa’han looks to for advice, guidance, or is the person the Sa’han makes decisions in order to keep the Tal Sa’han happy, Mal Sa’han has romantic undertones.

      • Wonderful! Thank you for answering this! My friend and I always wondered what the different beginnings meant! Now I can let her know and we’ll understand better when they’re are used! *gives bunny ear kiss kiss*

      • CABM

IPerhaps Sa’han would more accurately translate in to “lord” and “lady”, as it seems to indicate the speaker recognizes the Sa’han as a leader to whom their loyalty is given? The English phrases can also be used between equals (perhaps as Trent uses Sa’han in “A Perfect Blood”) as well as from a subordinate to a leader. It just seems like “lord” and “lady” would have the nuance that “sir” and “madam” do not. Of course, I’m not the writer (love the books!), so this is just my interpretation.

Hi you post from a few weeks ago reminded me I had some questions about The Hollows Insider (which was awesome by the way)

    1) Who destoryed the ice skating rink and why?
    2) I always thought Quinn know about the Trent/Rachel feelings for each other and that he liked Rachel and was kind of for it, but in EA he seems totally against it.

    • Thank you, Rosie. The Hollows Insider is probably my favorite book in the series, as hard as it was to write. You had some questions.
      1. I’ve no idea.
      2. He’s totally against it when Trent starts to shift his attentions from a crush to real love. That Ellasbeth is in the mix too is also telling. Trent has responsibilities, and Quen’s attitude shifted when Trent began showing signs of following his heart, not his head.

  42. jennifer verquin

I keep coming back to Ceri (warning?) Rachel about how good Trent is at manipulating Sunrise Suprise (the racehorse). has Trent found a way to use Rachel’s own personality against her? He has obviously studied what motivates her… or is it perhaps meant to be more of a parallel to his own life, and Ceri is giving him the offhand advice that it doesn’t matter if he’s in the spotlight as long as he’s good and knows it. I’d like to hope that he has also grown as a person, and there are hints in that regard, his pursuing his own dreams etc… Okay, so I put a bit too much thought into these characters, but I feel like they’ve been part of my life for so long now ;)

    • jennifer verquin

(apologies *blush* it was Jenks who was concerned about Trent’s capacity for mind games, Ceri was the one who mentioned anonimity in terms of defining a great artist)

    • Hi Jennifer. I like the way you think! You can make of it what you will. -grin- I’m just throwing stuff out there.

  43. Chris

I want to thank you for your excellent books haven’t been able to stop reading them. I have been hooked ever since my wife read me one on a trip to Youngstown Ohio. now i use the audio versions for my daily hour commute could not do it without them radio gets old. I am almost caught up with the series and eagerly await the next book thank you for a modern great work.

  44. Going back over EA and I noticed something. Rachel has a well developed habit of jumping to conclusions and looking through the world through a special set of “Rachel” glasses. She makes up her own head cannon until it gets disproved- even when she should have known better.

There was an issue with Glen- near the end when HAPA escaped and he got a call and Rachel figured out what was going on. She had this wonderful head cannon painting of “poor human Glen doesn’t know…” . I am thinking Glen DID know something. That was part of the problem. He seems to be more black and white and for justice than Rachel is *and* he’s not hindered the way Rachel is with her head cannon.

Why didn’t he tell Ivy or Rachel? Well, why didn’t they tell him that Nick was alive? Or any other “Inderlander” issue that they come across. I don’t think he could have told them anyway, same reason why they couldn’t tell him about their issues.

Glen is not dumb nor is he so blind that he wouldn’t have picked up that something was going on in the system he works in. That would be why he left. Any chance we are going to see Glen again or has he gone off into the sunset?

  45. Nessa

I sped read my way through EA, and now I’m going back through it more slowly. It is just that awesome. My question: Up until now, I’ve always felt that Quen mostly saw Rachel in terms of what she could do and how it impacted Trent, with a dash of “and that’s Monty’s girl.” This isn’t a knock on Quen — he tends to see everything relative to how it affects Trent, and I’d wager that most of our parents’ friends see us primarily as our parents’ kids.
But in EA, I feel like Quen really *saw* Rachel, especially after the thing with the rings. (I’d love to see that from Quen’s point of view, BTW.) Did he learn anything from it?

    • Thanks, Nessa. I’m so glad you liked it.
Mmm, Quen. He’s one of my faves, actually, though he doesn’t get much page time. He is seeing Rachel differently, yes, because Trent is. He’s much more wary about her, that’s for sure.

  46. Becca

I’ll have you know that your amazing writing skills have ruined me for other books! Which is both wonderful and kinda sucky. I’ve reread the series a few times already but when I try a new series I just think “eh that was good but it was no Ever After” :) Can’t wait for book 12!

  47. valerieohio

I will pay for anything with Kim Harrison’s name on it… But if I got to choose I’d rather have the spell hut scene written from Trent’s point of view… That would be juicy.

  48. Rose

My! I downloaded the app just for Trouble In Reserve and it was super fun. I like that, despite how well they know each other, how much they owe each other, and how close they are to a permanent relationship, you’re keeping tension between the two of them and getting back to their roots, allowing Trent’s black market medical research to clash with Rachel’s law-abiding morality. I’m flabbergasted that she excuses the existence of genetic cures to supernatural diseases but not mundane ones. It’s realistic, though, and I like that Rachel has oversights and flaws. I also like that she puts Trent through so much hell. You really have a talent for making your stories into vivid scenes and your characters believable: the image of Rachel searching her bag for a scrunchie while awash with a feeling of betrayal, next to a concerned but preoccupied Trent in a posh convertible, is so powerful. Rachel’s feelings were palpable.
I don’t really have story questions now, I prefer my guesses. Have you ever considered giving a shot to writing a screenplay? Given your mastery of novel and short story, I imagine you could be brilliant at it, and perhaps that’s what The Hollows would need to hit the silver screen. Not that everything needs to be on screen—but writing a Hollows screenplay could be a fun experience :) .
Always anticipating more of your work with excitement.
    Love,
    Rose

    • I like your idea, Rose. I’ve actually considered spending the summer on it, even though I know what results from my tinkering will not be “quality” work. I never get anything right the first time. :-)

      • Rose

That’s why we try twice… thrice… I know you have it in you to make a hit screenplay of real quality, granted adequate Blood, Sweat, & Tears are shed :-) . I’m thrilled that you’re toying with the idea ^^.

  49. Joan

Hi, Kim. I was wondering can Trent read Rachel’s mind or Rachel is easy to read? Thanks love the series can’t wait for the next book.

  50. twiser

I would do and/or pay amazing things for a camp novella!! ;-) I’m not even picky in who’s (Rachel, Trent, Lee, even Quen)POV it’s in! Any chances?

  51. Andrea

No questions really, just wanted to say how much I loved EA, that I’ve read the last chapter three times today since finishing it. I have been looking forward to more exploration of Rachel and Trent’s relationship, regardless of whether it goes forwards or backwards or just cements into a solid friendship. I was so so sad about Ceri, but oddly got more teary when the infant died at the end, the grief was well written, and made me hug my babies a little tighter tonight.

    • Thank you, Andrea! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the books. You’re going to like the next one. :-)
Sorry about the tears, but sometimes a good cry is just the thing.

  52. Marion

    Hi Kim
    Why does Al hate Trent?
I know Trent is an elf and demons hate every elves. But Al has no problem with Ceri.
    So why?

  53. Lindsey D.

Not related to EV, but I know you’re a fan of Vicki Pettersson. I spazzed a little when I saw the reference to burning bunnies in her latest book, THE LOST. Wondered if you enjoyed it as much as we did?

  54. Hope

    Hello Kim :)
I keep wondering and so I wanted to ask whether you are going to write more about Al and his past in the next two books.
With all the references to him being a slave and his wife Celfnnah, I just wondered if there is going to be a storyline in which he talks to Rachel about it.
I think you already hinted at it, when Rachel gave him back the rings saying that he shouldn’t forget her.

Thank you and I hope you had nice Easter holidays. :)

  55. Zen

    Hi Kim,
I love reading your Hollows series thus far BUT the one thorn is the offing of Ceri in EA. Sadness :( . I’m not sure if anyone’s asked this yet or if you’ve addressed it, but could/would you bring her back? Maybe use her resurrection as catalyst for another kickass storyline that could possibly involve retrieval/recovery of a soul ala Ivy and vampirekind? I must admit I loved Ceri and felt her character had potential growth and could add to future storylines and character development with Quen, Ray, Ivy, etc… so her death seems wasteful to me. Plus it’s TOO cruel to have her daughters grow up with no mother and to have Quen lose his soulmate. I would’ve (and I’m sure I’m not the only one) would’ve loved to see more interchange with them. Or something wonderful where Quen gets her back finally after his loss and heartache.

I’m personally lobbying for a magnificent resurrection… there will be a Million Reader March dammit.

    • Hi Zen.
I’m sorry, but I’m not going to be bringing Ceri back. She died protecting her children, and her soul is at peace. Also, I am kind of making a statement that two men can raise two girls perfectly fine, that not having a mother does not make you broken, that life does not fit into little boxes, but is glorious in whatever form it takes.

      • Lindsey D.

LOVE Kim’s response! “life does not fit into little boxes, but is glorious in whatever form it takes.”! <– This is why you're in my top list of favorite authors!

      • Bree

My father always said that a good author can kill off important characters and continue to keep the story good. I agree. Even though I really like Ceri too

  56. Becca

Will Rachel figure out a way to keep her tattoo through tranformation curses?

  57. Kim Harrison,
I am a huge fan of your work. I reread The Hollows series annually before the new book comes out. Having Into The Woods and The Hollows Insider has been a boon for my annual read through and I am happy that I enjoyed Ever After. While EA doesn’t feel like a traditional Rachel Morgan book (pacing seemed different), it was a delight. It was great to see the Demons depend on Rachel albeit in an aggressive sort of way. Trent and Rachel, while not my ideal romantic couple, was great to watch especially when joined with Al by the rings. Ray and Lucy being like a mini Quen and Trent was adorable. Your references to Lord of the Rings were funny. Seeing Nick get his well deserved fate as a demon’s familiar was viciously rewarding. Rachel not really needing anyone to help her, except for odd bits of info/spell books, was refreshing even though that made for less interaction between her and Ivy. Nina rejecting Felix was great as it allowed Ivy to be on the other side, like she is Nina’s Kisten, of the hunger. I can’t wait to have more interaction with Ivy to see how she has grown. Maybe her and Rachel can finally have something and it not be destroyed because of some Vampire (wishful thinking I know). I can’t wait to reread the book again and I look forward to book 12.
However, I wasn’t too happy with the off screen death of Ceri and Pierce. While Kisten’s death was off screen there were some scenes with Rachel that gave us an idea of what happened. There was an emotional impact because we see Rachel’s and Ivy’s grief. To this day when I get to Kisten’s death in book 5, I still shed a tear. Heck, the first time I read that I felt Rachel’s hope dissipate into nothing. It was magnificent writing. I remember being slightly depressed for a day because of your excellent writing. His arc in that book was beautifully written. I can’t praise you enough.
While Ceri’s death was no doubt as brutal and not fit for mass consumption, I feel that Rachel’s emotional distance to Ceri’s death ruined the impact. I was sad Ceri and Pierce died. But there wasn’t the weighty baggage that often comes with beloved characters’ deaths. Not seeing Quen, Trent, or Rachel grieve after all was said and done made it feel like they were distant. I know they cried some but it seemed too distant.
However, AllyCakes being drunk in Trent’s hut was priceless and made up for the other’s lack of grief. I got the sense, even more than I suspected, that he genuinely loved her but he was afraid to love her. It was tragic and beautiful. Trent and Al bonding over how Ceri used to bang around in the house to wake them up was sweet. I really hope Trent joins the Collective.
I guess my only complaint was that our sole POV was too distant. Considering the size and scope of the novel and the series, having only one complaint in 11 books is amazing. Thank you for writing this amazing series and thank you for reading this long post.

    Sincerely,

    Nathan Quinn

    Questions:
1: Will we have a funeral scene/ resolution/ acknowledgement of Pierce and Ceri’s death?
2: Will Ivy and Jenks continue to be sidelined as Rachel continues to come into her own?
3: Did showing the Demons what they looked like earn Rachel any respect or advantage?
4: Did Rachel get rid of that purple event horizon/Ku’Sox’s curse?
5: Just how many ways has Rachel discovered to fix the Vampire soul now?
6: How is AllyCakes dealing with Ceri’s death? Is he perpetually drunk or was that a onetime thing?
7: Newt is awesome. Did seeing her original form heal some of her mental wounds?
8: What would a Newt and Rachel shopping trip/fashion show look like?

    • Hi Nathan. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the read. I know it wasn’t one of your questions, but the reason I did not show Ceri’s death was I didn’t want it to be the focus of the book.
      1. Not really, no.
      2. Sidelined is such an ugly word, but you can’t have it both ways. Either she is standing alone, or she is with her friends.
      3. It got their interest.
      4. Yep.
      5. I think we have three solid ways, and at least one maybe.
      6. It was a one-time event.
      7. No, but it gave her something new to think about.
      8. Amazing.

      • Thank you!
Sorry if I came off brash in my assessment of Ceri and Pierce’s death. Not having it be a focus makes sense. I didn’t think of that. Also, I guess if Rachel doesn’t get destroyed now by every tragedy it is a sign of her character progression.
I didn’t mean to offend by using sidelined. I was trying to think of a way to express the lower amount of Ivy in the book.
I guess I just want to see the gang kicking butt together. :)
Again, Thanks for the response. You’re really great to your fans.

  58. Louise

I know I read it recently but can’t seem to locate the posts. Where is the character, “Perry” found please? I am embarrassed to say that I read “Into the Woods” but can’t remember the character.

    • Vicky Tea

Peri hasn’t been introduced to us yet. She isn’t in the Into the Woods anthology. Kim has been working on her, and said she might be what she works on after Rachel. A few of her blog posts have discussed her, but nothing big. We still have to wait to meet her.

      • Louise

Thanks a bunch! I was racking my brain to remember a story about her. Nice to know why I can’t remember reading it.

  59. Jennifer

Awwww gotcha, thanks so much!!! :)

  60. Vicky Tea

By “fixing” the babies KuSox abducted, Trent just made a bunch of little Saladans, right? B/c they were all boys. Even though Rachel agreed to help Trent, would Lee come back as a Big Brother/mentor for the boys?

    • Most of them were male. There was indication that there may be a few females mixed in. Female babies were more responsive to the cure and would have had a higher survival rate but understanding Ku Sox didn’t want any one more powerful than him (as a female would have been) he focused more on the males. Large numbers to balance out the large losses. I am assuming the few female babies he might of snagged had red hair- same as the nurses.

    • Hi Vicky. There were some girls in there, just not as many, and that’s a good question about Lee. Who knows? :-)

  61. Faith

I absolutely loved the new book (EA). Thank you so much for sharring your world with us. I re-read all the books every time a new 1 comes out so I know I remember everything. I do have 1 complaint about the book, and it forms into a question. I love Ceri, Pierce I could do without, but I am kinda disapointed that she died and we didn’t get to ‘see’ it like we did with Kisten. So my question is, is there any possibility that you would do a short, or a memery or something to ‘show’ us Ceri’s death scene? Thanks in advance!

    • As much as I am interested in reading bits of the Hollows books without a “Rachel POV” filter….I do not want to read what Ku Sox did to Ceri in detail. If Ku Sox is a sick and depraved as he is suppose to be- which would make him far more worse than Al- the Hollows books are not the right media for that to be expressed.

Which would mean we would have to deal with a watered down Ku Sox and that’s not fair to the character, or the author. Somethings are better off not written, no matter how frustrating it is.

Kim has been very good at touching on some triggery, nasty topics (such as vamp culture’s dependance on various forms of abuse, assault and manipulated consent and victim blaming) without going into graphic visual details. Going into Ceri’s death in detail would push the limits on that, I think.

    • Hi Faith. Thanks! I’m so glad you liked it! I’m sorry that you were unhappy about Ceri leaving the books. I didn’t show it because I didn’t want it to be what the book was about, and showing it would have made it a focus. I probably won’t make a short to show Ceri’s death.

  62. Jennifer

Where can you find trouble on reserve?

    • It still comes preloaded on the Sony app, Jennifer. We ran into a contractual problem, so getting it out in a more accessible format has slowed down. Hang in there. We’re working on it.

  63. Anne

Read “trouble on reserve” it is a great free short by Kim that actually came out before EA but it seems to be set after it (Rach mentions kissing Trent twice at the beginning). The only problem with it is that it leaves you desperate for more!

  64. Becca

Hi Kim! Can’t wait for the next book! Two questions, why does Rachel’s aura have a shadow sometimes? What does that signify? And will we get any short stories before the next book comes out?

    • Becca

Sorry about the double comment. My phone was having a hissy.

    • Hi Becca. Ahhh, it just means her aura has a shadow when she’s doing wild magic. We’ll see if that has any significance as the books progress. I don’t have anything planned for between EVER AFTER and the next release, but things can change fast.

  65. Becca

Hi Kim! Can’t wait for the next book! Two questions, why does Rachel’s aura have a shadow sometimes? What d

  66. Vicky Tea

Did Jenks ask Jax to stay in the church?

  67. Hi Kim!! Just read EA and I think it is by far my favorite of your books!! To see Rachel maturing and coming into her own is awesome! That chick has so much strength and power, I cant wait to see what else she can do. I do have to say I cried when Rachel found out about Ceri. I feel so so bad for Quen and the girls!
Now for a couple questions: 1) Ellsbeth made a reference about something that happened at camp when Trent and Rachel were kids. Will we find out what that was about? 2) Now that we know the power Rachel/Trent/Al have when working together, would they be able to somehow bring back the everafter to what it once was?
As always I absolutely LOVE this series and cant wait for the next book!
    Tracy

    • Thanks, Tracy! I’m so glad you liked EVER AFTER! You had some questions.
      1. Probably not? I brought that up to make Rachel nervous that Trent remembered more than she did. But you never know.
      2. Ahhh, probably not? There is several thousand years of damage there.

  68. Hello Kim!
I just finished “Everafter” and once again I have to thank you for an amazing read. I feared that the book might feel like an interlude but it really didn’t. It was fascinating to see Rachel’s character grow and unfold itself. I never thought that someday Rachel might think of Ivy as a liability in a forthcoming confrontation but there it is as much as she doesn’t like it herself. It’s nice to see how she manages on her own becoming more and more independant and comfortable with herself and her power.
Now the waiting for book number 12 begins. I’m looking forward to it!
    Sabrina

    • Melissa

I agree, I enjoyed Rachel not leaning on Ivy too much in this book and finding her own strengths and independance, I’ve been waiting to see this side of Rachel!! I also liked that Ivy had grown enough to accept that Rachel didn’t need her to come with her in this specific situation and she was more of a help to stay home with Nick.

    • Thank you, Sabrina. I don’t write interludes intentionally, so I’m glad you didn’t see EVER AFTER as such. Look for the next book this time next year. :-)

      • Keith

“Trent adjusted the lowest button on his gray linen jacket as he shut the door behind him. A disarming smile curved over his clean-shaven features, giving him the air of someone my age.” Chapter 14.

      • Keith

Sorry about the last reply making no sense. It was meant to be a reply to another comment.

  69. Criss

This whole series has been great, and “Ever After” was particularly wonderful! :D Thank you so much! I love all the detail you weave into your stories, and I have a question that’s been knocking about in my mind.

It’s been mentioned a couple of times in passing in different stories that Trent has twin lifelines in his palm and at least once it was indicated that it was a source of mild concern for his parents. Is that at all significant? Will it ever be important to the story, or is it more of a personal side-note?

General palmistry would tend to say that that means he either has a soul-mate, a twin, or is leading a double life. At least two of those I could see as applying to him … ;) but is that what you had in mind, or does it mean something different in the Hollows world?

Thanks again for writing such enjoyable books!

    • Thank you, Criss! I’m so glad you liked it! YOu had a question about Trent’s life lines. It’s not significant, no. I’ve got twin life lines, and I thought it would be cool if he did, too. I don’t put any significance on me having them, either. (grin)

  70. Angel

Hi Kim!! What can I say that everyone else hasn’t already?? I LOVE the Rachel Morgan Series!! Can we expect more between Rachel & Trent?

  71. Susan

Now that I am listening to the audio books while I’m working, it just cracks me up every time I hear Rachel call Al through her scrying mirror. The references to Mork and Mindy are so very classic. It just doesn’t come through as funny in the book as it does in the audio. That is definitely something I love about your books, Kim. The humor that you bring to your writing. Thanks again for the stellar reads!

  72. joan

Hello Kim, I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE Rachel Morgan Series. I just started the series last summer and I fell in Love. The last book was totally awesome I totally can’t wait for next year. Thank you for awesomeness

  73. Linda

Loved, loved, loved the Book. I like changes and you are not afraid of bringing them up. I always admired that ’cause they doesn’t seem pushed.
Every chapter was a surprise. Thank you

  74. Neves

Hi, I’m portuguese and I started reading your books in mid february and ended them yesterday night. I think I’ve never been so hoaked. When Kisten died I felt a mess, Icried so much, and to think that in the begining I didn’t like him seems crazy right now.
I just loved the ending of EA when Trent says that he doesn´t need to be drunk to complement her hair and I remembered him saying “Down, I think” when he leaves Rachel. I must tell you that that was genius. I only thought DAMN.
Keep writing please and thank you for all your books that I’ve help me realize so much about life.
    You’re the best.

Ps. I hope that Trent can be who he needs to be without having to marry Ellasbeth (argh!)
    Sorry for the english

  75. Wileycat

    Hi Kim,
I’ve been on your site for the past three books but this is my first time commenting. First off I love this series. You rock. I’ve read EA about three or four times already I can’t get enough.
I just want to say thank you for Rachel finally being in a situation were she could not forgive someone (mainly Nick). I’ve always been bothered by how forgiving Rachel is.(i mean I am a huge Trent/Rachel shipper but I could never understand how she forgave him for putting her in a rat fight. lol) Anyway The scene where she is contemplating telling the demons that nick is kusox so they would kill him was great. Even better was Trent talking her out of it. Thank you thank you. Also before reading the book I read a review that said someone was going to be killed off I seriously thought you were going to off AL. I thought maybe because Rachel depends on him so much he was a goner, So glad I was wrong.
    Two questions,
    1. When Trent and Rachel are in his spelling hut and he says “its just a business arrangement’ was he referring to his marriage to Ellasbeth or his arrangement with Rachel to deal with the Rosewood babies?
    2. Why did Trent hug Rachel when they were in the hospital finding out info on the rosewood baby kidnappings? It just seemed like such an odd thing for him to do.
Have tons more questions but I like to be surprised. Just wish I didn’t have to wait til next yr.

    • Thank you, Wileycat. I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the books so much! Oh, if only I could write them as fast as you read them.

I’m glad you appreciated in the ending. Thank you.

You had some questions. 1. His arrangement with the Rosewood babies. 2. He thought he was going to be abducted, not Ceri and Lucy, and he wanted a public show that he and Rachel were not on the outs.

  76. Kimberly I

Hey Kim–how excited that you’re gearing up for your new book :) Here’s my latest… In the Trent POV at the end of PB, Trent talked about merging his aura with Rachel’s to make it harder for Al to snatch her. On her POV she didn’t realize what he was doing just noticed the sensation. Did she ever figure out what Trent did, or is she going to in our next read? I thought i saw some reference to it to some degree in EA but when i went back i couldnt’ find it. I’m curious to know what she thought about that.

  77. Kennedy

    Hey Kim,
I just have a few quick questions. In PB Jenks let’s slip that he caught Trent in his spelling hut. How did Jenks get in the hut–isn’t there a spell to keep people out? Also, what was Trent doing? Jenks starts to tell but Trent interrupts him.
    Thanks!!!

  78. Melissa

Hi Kim, re reading Ever After. I feel like I’m noticing more that perhaps Jenks approves of the possibility of Trent and Rachel being a couple. Someone pointed out before that Jenks isn’t teasing Rachel as he typically does about Trent (the way he does with other men) perhaps he approves in some form of it? I think Jenks is much more aware than Rachel of Trent’s feelings for her. Such as when Jenks says about Trent that it’s a good thing he likes frustrating women..
Am I looking into this too much? That Jenks sees what is happening, slowly, between Trent and Rachel and he’s ok with it? Also, does Ivy know what’s going on? I feel like Ivy isn’t around them as much as Jenks and may not see all of it.
    Thanks for the stories :)

    • Hi Melissa. I think you are seeing exactly what’s going on, yes. Ivy is aware as well, and I think despite her feelings of vampiric jealousy that she thinks it’s as good idea as Rachel ever has. ;-)

I’m glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  79. Hi Kim~I Just finished Ever After. I loved it! But your killing me with the Trent and Rachel suspense! LOL! I have been a Trent fan since Rachel first ogled his back side while caged in his office. I do have one question. Didn’t Nick walk away from Rachel way back when? He acts like she walked away from him. I have to say that I would not have been bothered one iota if the demons had torn Nick apart…but I guess being Newt’s slave/familiar is almost as good. I just hope she is careful. He is a slimy little worm. Once again…thanks for the great book.

    • Thank you, Calikat. I really appreciate that! Ahhh, Nick and Rachel kind of mutually broke up, but she was the one who walked away first when she realized he had been lying to her–and then it just got worse. I think we’re done with Nick. I don’t plan on bringing him back but a word or two on his demise might be in order.

  80. Misty

Will Vivian ever get revenge on Al for putting her in the hospital?

  81. Felicia

Hi Kim! Finished EA and a re-read and now am going through major withdrawal. Any chance we’ll get any shorts or bonus chapters to help keep the shakes to a minimum? Next year is so looooong from now. Pretty please? Love the books.

  82. Kim, It’s my pleasure to once more say i didn’t sleep just to be with the 11th Book of my favorite series and to wait one more year to see what my favorite (yang for the ying) (maybe) couple will do to make my heart skip a beat is so sad i don’t have words. The passion of the war was perfect, even if i’ll miss Ceri and Pierce, i can’t say i’ll miss Nick if he doesn’t appear. I’m sure the vampires will be a problem in a near future and Rachel needs to be clear headed without crap for brain around. I like Trent more and more each book, not as a perfect man but a almost perfect elf.
I won’t tell you my wishes because you are the master of the Hollows but i hope Rachel has a HE with love and respect and that Trent can be what he wants to be like we all should be in our lifes.
Thanks once more for a great book and for making me a zombie one more day

  83. Lisa

    Hi Kim,
Congrats on Ever After! I do have a question that I’m hoping you might clear up for me. At the beginning of EA, Trent tells Rachel about a weathly family who’s child survived the Rosewood.Trent is concerned because he assumed only people working for him, knew about the cure. We also learn ITW’s that Ellasbeth stole the Rosewood cure. My question is, did Nick or Ellabeths family sell this to other families? Thanks for taking the time to clear this up for me.

    • Keith

Elisabeth stole the elfe cure to use on Lucy, not a rosewood cure. Nick/KuSox were secertly giving the rosewood babies the necessary enzymes to keep the alive so they could steel them. The parents and doctors would not have known what was going on.

    • Hi Lisa. The Rosewood babies all survived because of Nick stealing the temporary cure. Ellasbeth wouldn’t pass that on, she’d destroy it. Hope this helps!

  84. Is Rachel ever going to do a class on crime scene/evidence gathering etiquette? Re-listening to the first books and being both amused and annoyed at what an immature hot mess she was back then.

Also- did Sara Jane turn rabid minion to Trent? Still a secretary but a secretary that can understand and handle some of the more complex things working for him might require while being rabidly loyal to her boss? There were some hints in the Hollows Insider book and in the series books. Sara Jane did not/does not seem to be the clueless simple farm girl pity case that Rachel kept trying to paint her as up until Trent was almost arrested in the second book. I think Trent figured her out when she gave him bad sugar beet information.

    • Gosh, Apocalypse, I don’t know. That would take a lot of fun out of it, don’t you think?
She did, yes, but it wasn’t ignorant farm girl, it was smart farm girl who knew it was a way out. She was a realist, especially when her sister became involved.

      • Hehe. Trent works in a lab and has rabid minions. He’s probably too isolated to fully appreciate the hilarity that image makes. Unless he’s a closet fanboy? I like that Sara Jane knew what she was doing and Rachel, being Rachel, missed it until it slapped her in the face. That both highlights the charm and the limits of being stuck seeing the story only through Rachel’s eyes and though process.

  85. Hi Kim.

I was very happy to recieve my personalized and autographed copy of EA. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that and to Nicola’s for undertaking what must be a daunting task. When I called Nicola’s to inquire about my book and said I was a Kim Harrison fan, they said I’d called the right place and were so nice when answering my questions. Again, thank you. I’ve been showing your signature off to everyone who’ll look.

I finished EA within 36 hrs of getting it and I loved it! BMS has been bumped out of #1 for my personal favorite. There were some sad parts but when the synopsis was first released telling us that Ku’Sox was coming back, I honestly didn’t see everyone coming out alive because he’s just so evil. While I’ll miss Ceri, I’m not holding it, or any other loss of characters, against you. I laughed out loud so much and was left thinking, “OMGosh! I can’t belive Kim went there!” It was exhilarating.

I starting lurking around here around the time of PD mmp and one of the first things I had asked you was for some validation on my thoughts regarding Al’s true feelings for Ceri as it seemed to me that Al went through a lot of trouble to avoid killing her. Your response was a frustratingly vague, “Just keep reading, Natasha.” I understand now why you couldn’t really answer me and it was much more satisfying to find out while reading your book. Even though it’s too bad Ceri had to die before Al would even come close to admitting any feelings.

Most of the questions I’ve had about EA have already answered except for one…

    1) Why does Al throw dirt on his fire? It baffles me that ever after dirt is flammable.

Also, I was just wondering, why does my name show up in the color blue? Have I been flagged or is that just something to do with my own personal settings?

I really enjoy hanging around your site and getting all those little extras as well as reading the thoughts of your other fans.

Wow. I think this is the longest post I’ve ever put up. Thank you for answering my questions and for writing my favorite series. Always a fan.

    • Thank you, Natasha! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and that you found Nicola’s books to be helpful. You had some questions.
      1. It’s not really dirt, but peat moss, which does burn and is sort of like dirt.
      2. Mmmm, your name is in blue because it links to your FB account. You must have given that info when you first posted.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  86. Kimberly I

Hi Kim, Did Trent have other “romantic plans” for Rachel when he brought her to the spelling hut to tell her about the Rosewood babies?

    • I don’t think he did, Kimberly. I think he just wanted to show her a little more of himself, try to break the cold, impersonal image Rachel has/had of him.

      • Kimberly I

Thanks :) It s cool that you always respond to questions in such a timely manner. By the way–it’s official, you ruined me for a few authors…I started with the Hollows to bide my time until the next book in a series I was following came out and somewhere along the line–this series far surpassed it on my enjoyment meter. The latest book in that “other series” came back this month and after I finished it, I went “meh… ok, but seriously NOT the ride that EverAfter was”. :)

  87. Kennedy

    I think I have a few questions.
1- Will the picture of Rachel and Trent that was taken at a party ever show up in a future book?
2- Will we get to know the Rosewood Demons?
3- Does Ivy still have a crush on David?
4- Why was Trouble on Reserve released before EA?
5- Will we see Nick again?
I think this is it for now. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to all of us.

    • Hi Kennedy. You bet.
      1. Probably not. It was not meant to be a plot device.
      2. Perhaps! I’ve got an idea, even now.
      3. No.
      4. It was a promotional decision, timed with the App it was on.
      5. Perhaps. Still thinking that one out.
      It’s my pleasure!

  88. Jessica

First I want to say that I love your books. I’m from germany and I read them in english and german.( So please forgive me if my english isn’t so good) But here is my question:
Newt has a copy of Rachels kitchen, but I wonder how she got it. In Pale Demon you said, to make a Tulpa a demon and a demoness is needed and that the demon can look in the mind of the demoness. But who helped Newt to make the Tulpa of Rachels kitchen? I don’t think that Newt trust enough one of the demons to make a Tulpa because of the mind-reading thing.
    Thanks

  89. Oh Miss Kim! I just finished EA and I am just puddle of emotion! I have to tell you I’ve always been solidly in the Ivy/Rachel corner. However after the last book I began to entertain certain other possibilities… and now after EA… Well I fell in love with Trent books ago so who am I to judge? lol I do love that Rachel is being cautious and nit just plunging in there. Either way right now I’m content and I absolutely LOVED the book. I do have to beg that you please not kill Trent! My heart can’t take another Kistengate! (Much like Trent I fought liking him, but you caught me!)
I’m still not sure about Nina… I guess maybe because she’s always been more Felix then she has herself so we haven’t really gotten to know her. Ivy has always been my favorite of the characters that you have brought to life and she holds a special place in my literary heart. She deserves only the best! :)

I do have a few questions while everything is soaking in. (Literally just finished the book 5 minutes ago)

-The Ever After is noticeably smaller because of the leak, can it be fixed or is the space lost for good?
    - What’s going on with that chrystilis (sp) and did putting Trent’s ring in there have any effect?
-Did the mountain that imploded in the ever after have on effect in reality? A Grand Canyon number 2 for example?
    -Can Nick be dead now?
-How many more books are there? I know you’ve said before but I can’t recall.

    Okay I’ve prattled on enough.
LOVED LOVED LOVED EA! Thank you for sharing your word with us.
~Anna, from Indiana, then Ohio, and Indiana again.

    • Thanks, Anna! I’m so glad you liked it! I’m warming up to Trent, too. We’ll see . . . You had some questions.
      1. The space is gone for good, and it is indeed smaller. But stable.
      2. Ahhh, we’ll see. The ring isn’t doing anything, no.
      3. No. Good question though.
      4. I wish he was. I don’t think we’ll see him again.
      5. Two more!

  90. Sangi

Hi! I was re-reading “The Outlaw Demon Wails” and I had a few questions. It’s stated that Trent’s father died before Rachel’s, do we know how much before? Like a couple days? Weeks? Months? I’m wondering how long it took for it to become apparent to Monty that the vampire virus was going to turn him.

Has it ever been mentioned around what age Trent was when his mother died? I’m pretty sure it’s been stated that Trent is two years older than Rachel, so if her father died when she was 13, Trent must have been 15. I know I’m slow, but the first time I read the book I didn’t stop to figure out ages and it never actually struck me that when Rachel’s dad came to Trent with his plea to try the risky cure, he was speaking with a 15 year old boy. That’s a lot of responsibility to have hanging on you at that age. Which lead me to my other questions – his father’s death presumably left Trent the last remaining Kalamack heir … but he was only 15 (or thereabout). Was he expected to take over everything right away, or where there other people running things until he was older? Since he was a minor, did he have a legal guardian until he was of age? Quen or Jonathan, maybe?

It made me smile in “Ever After” when Rachel is telling Trent to not take Quen worrying about him as an insult and says how he “cross checked his prom date and took him to the DMV to get his license” I know she was using it an illustration, but I found it sweet because I bet that is exactly what happened.

I really want to compliment you on your incredible skill in character layering. Going back and reading previous books after having seen the characters develop to where they are now puts me in awe of your ability to have so many subtle strands running beneath the surface of everything that happens. Thanks for writing books that are as wonderful to read the six or seventh time around as they were the first! :)

    • Keith

Trent’s dad died weeks before Rachel’s did. His mom died something like 6 years before that, so that wold have made him 9 or 10 years old. Trents dad is the one that fixed Rachel. Trent was a kid going to the same camp and being fixed by his father at the same time.

    • Hi Sangi. It was a week or so between Kalamack Sr. and Rachel’s dad’s death. His mom died several years before that, but it was Kalamack Sr. who saved Rachel, not Trent. Quen and Jon ran pretty much everything until Trent finished school and then college.
I’m so glad that you are enjoying my work. Thank you. I put a lot of thought into everything, mostly the characters, and I appreciate that, especially that you enjoy the re-reads!

      • Sangi

Thank you so much for the answers! :) And sorry I wasn’t clear – I didn’t mean the cure for Rachel, I meant the cure for himself, for the vampire virus, the one he and Trent’s dad didn’t survive but Quen did. Trent says her father came to him, that was what I meant, sorry. Thanks again! You are the definition of awesome. :) Seriously, I think I saw your picture in the dictionary under that listing. ;D

  91. I always enjoy your books Ms. Harrison, and Ever After was excellent as usual, so thanks for writing! :) But I must say…I’m not a Trent/Rachel fan, I’d like both those crazy kids to be happy just not, you know, together…any chance they won’t end up romantically invovled? Ah, I also was wondering if we might be seeing more Newt? I’m really quite fond of that crazy lady :) a short about her would be awesome! Thanks again for sharing your writing! Will the next book be a January release, too?

    • Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my work. We’ll see what happens in the Trent/Rachel corner. She’s not a traditional girl, and that will show. We’ll see more Newt before it’s over, yes.
I won’t know if we stick to the January release or move back to Feb for a while.

  92. Emily

In Pale Demon, Trent “stole” Lucy, which gave him complete parental rights to her. I was wondering…given the events in Ever After, with Lucy being kidnapped by a demon and taken briefly to the Ever After, does that negate Trent’s claim on Lucy? If he chose not to marry Ellasbeth, would she have the right to try to claim Lucy for herself?
Also, will Trent ever discover how Rachel stood up for him To Ellasbeth after she got Lucy out of the Ever After? The fact that she could of asked anything of Ellasbeth and she merely asked her to let Trent be who he wants to be and to not smother him. Maybe I read more into it than was really there haha! It just seemed pretty significant that Rachel did that and I wonder what Trent would think! I’d like to think that Trent secretly loves it when Rachel stands up to Ellasbeth because I am sure there are very few, if any, people who do :) !! Thanks :) :) :)

    • Emily

Quen seemed to enjoy it a bit :)

      • Emily

No problem Kim! Lucky for you I LOVE spoilers (but I respect that you like to keep mum on upcoming books) :) !! I was a bit confused that Trent could hear Rachel from the EA!

      • Well in all fairness- it was only a matter of time before Ellasbeth pushed Rachel into her telling the Ice Bitch off. Rachel has survived death threats, demons, assassins and master vamps. What can an Ice Bitch with too much money and pride who won’t get her hands dirty do to her at this point? Besides piss Rachel off to the point of doing/saying something about it?

    • Hi Emily. No, it doesn’t because there was no pre-arranged agreement between the demons and Trent as there was between Trent and Ellasbeth. As for Rachel standing up to Ellasbeth? I think Trent was awake, or woken up. He heard it. And yes, it was significant. It meant a lot to him.

      • Er, I think I just gave you a big spoiler for book 13. sorry. grin.

      • Lindsey D

        I KNEW IT! :-)

      • Amber

No apology necessary; we love those!

      • Emily

        No apologies necessary!

      • Val-OH

Lol! When I read your answer I was like “ERP! I don’t think she meant to post that.”

      • Stormie

Well, this is the Spoilers Page. *snickers*

      • Awesome, a spoiler!!! w00t!!

      • Emily

Please don’t write it out during your rewrites! That would be tragic :) !! I’m looking forward to reading this :)

      • Oh, snap!! Please tell me Rachel gets the opportunity to bitch-slap Ellasbeth before it’s all over and done with! That would just be so….satisfying.
And the accidental spoilers are the best kind, BTW! Thank you! ;-)

      • Marcie

Oooh this is interesting and I’ve been thinking about it too. Now in EA Trent was with Ku’Sox and his ring was broken because Ku’Sox had melted it. But I was wondering if the rings had given them a connection, like when Rachel was using the rings to bring Trent out and the Goddess said “He needs you more” and took her to him. However Rachel, never realized she would have some kind of sense of Trent because she keeps her second sight turned off. I don’t think Trent does at all so he was able to “sense” things about her or maybe hear. However the ring was gone on Trent by then. Or maybe it was from when they were sharing space/aura (?) from the time Trent added her to his for protection when they faced Al after her bracelet was taken off. Sorry I can’t remember exactly what it was, but its on the tip of my tongue. LOL Just my thoughts and they can be completely off base, but I was thinking for awhile before the “spoiler” (which I love getting) that there was an inner connection between them and Rachel was not seeing/hearing it. I just didn’t know nor do I still know how that connection came about or is working.

  93. janine16

    Hi Ms. Kim!! quick question…
In some of the books, Rachel says that the ley line running in Eden Park( aka Al’s line) is small and weak. I just wondered if there was a significant reason.
    Hope you have great weekend!:)
    -Janine

  94. Okay, Ms. Kim, I just wanted to let you know I LOVED the intensity of Ever After. I’ve read comments hinting that it wasn’t uppity enough for them… “WHA WHA WHAAAA!” I loved the DRAMA! This book was MEATY.

I’ve come to terms that Al isn’t in the running for Rachel’s affections and I shared his heartache when he saw Trent and Rachel with their wine glasses and shared moment. I get it. Trent is milk chocolate and Al is dark chocolate… I love dark chocolate… But Milk chocolate is really yummy too. ;)

I love the suspense, drama, fear, Sex (or atleast the hint of it) and magic of your series! Keep up the good work!

    Val-OH

  95. Hi Kim
Just finished EA and absolutely loved it!!! I kinda wish I hadn’t finished it in a day because now I have to wait until next year for the next one :(
Will we see any more of Rachel & Trent’s camp experiences?
Will there be a reconciliation with Robbie?
I know that Al’s wedding rings are Demon rings, but was Al’s wife a Demon? I had a fleeting thought that she may have been Elf which would be an interesting twist.

  96. Crystal

    Hello Miss Kim,

I was reading Ever After again and started to notice that you mintion her tattoo a good bit. I have a couple of questions about it.
    1) will we see David again ?
    2) is Rachel going to have more to do with her pack now that she has fixed the ever after?
    3) will she make elesbeth leave Trent alone? I know this one didn’t pertain to the pack.
    4) is there something romantic going on between belle and jinks?
    5) if so has he told anyone?
    6) is max going to stay with his dad now or is he going to go find his own garden?

  97. Anne

    Hi Kim,
Will you ever write a “Trent” version of the cottage scene in EA?

  98. Stormie

My background on my PC changed and this image reminded me of Al in many ways. On that note, when will the chrysalis awaken? I have been looking for this since Rachel put it under glass. http://impressivemagazine.com/2012/05/30/blue-butterflies/morphos_1/

On and thank you again for your wonderful imagination. I am listening to the books yet again. I think I have listened to your books and only one other author since April of last year. Your two sets of books helped me through sorting of 14 years of marriage, a move, and renovation of a basement apartment. All I could do was smile while I worked. Thank you again!

    • Ooooh, very nice, Stormie!
I’m hoping to see what comes out of that chrysalis before the books are done, too.
And thank you! I’m glad the books have helped you through a rough spot. Me too.

  99. shampoo

What age is considered “grown up” for a demon? In the beginning of EA, Rachel says Jenks has opined that witches shouldn’t be on their own until 30. Well, the only witches he has been around are Rachel, Pierce, and Marshal. And he wasn’t talking about Pierce and Marshal. Haha.

Rachel does seem kind of immature* particularly in the earlier books, though she’s grown a lot, maybe she is only just now grown up? (*not in a bad way, it’s not bad to be what you are)

Al seemed really, really young in that dream sequence. As in younger than Rachel maturity-wise.

If elves grow up quickly and demons grow up slowly, then it’s pretty easy to see how the elves became the masters of the demons.

Trent, a lot of the time, seems more than only two years older than Rachel. Partly, that is the difference in their jobs. A lot of stuff Rachel does daily wouldn’t fly for a second in the business world (and she knows it). But, he regularly seems 5-10 years older than her. Whereas, Ivy doesn’t seem that way, so it’s not just a personality thing.

    • OMGosh, Shampoo. I don’t know. I think Rachel is grown up in the sense she can make her own decisions and live by them. When does anyone really grow up?

      • shampoo

Well, most people don’t know this… but, it takes humans about 70 years. (Or maybe that’s just me.) Oops! Haha

Just a theory based on the Inside the Hollows book. #^-^#
