    • Justin

I’m sorry I didn’t mean it to have spoilers nope if u have plans I’d rather wait and see greatness unfold :)

    Hello Kim

I am curios about your 12th book coming out in winter of 2014. Usually the books come out in the early months or steady that’s what I’ve noticed I could be wrong? Hopefully you don’t take this as a rude insulting question just a curios humongous fan! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

  4. Powerof3

Well don’t give up Kim. This just means you wanna wait for someone with integrity. That’s a good thing! ^_^

  5. Franchesca

@FullMeatHeart20 – I think She was saying it was one in the same. At least that is how it came across to me ;o)

  6. James

    Kim,
What ever became of the TV series that was in the process of being picked up? Is it on or was it dropped?
    Thanx,
    James

    • One of the things I asked my agent was that if someone wanted it, that they would not be allowed to buy my rights and stick them in a drawer for a long time. I wanted my rights back if they became distracted. And that’s what happened. The process dissolved at at the pilot stage. They kept asking for less paranormal until they got disinterested, and the rights reverted back to me.

  7. Diva

    Hi Kim,

Personally I love the new title. I thitnk it’s cool. As it so happens, The Dead Pool was the first Dirty Harry movie I ever saw (a very young Jim Carrey made an appearance in it too, if I recall correctly) so maybe I’m just biased. :)

I’m curious though, when the powers that be nix a title that you submit do they give you a reason? Mystic Impact sounds like a perfectly good title to me so I’m wondering what made it less desirable/marketable in their eyes. In the end though, it’s the juicy stuff between the covers that truly makes a book and the Hollows always packs a punch.

    Have a monumentous day!

    • Diva

      *think* Doh!

    • Hi Diva. Iiam Neesom was in it too.
I usually get “Marking didn’t like it.” or “Sales didn’t like it.” or occasionally “A bookseller didn’t like it.” Digging further to find out why is useless because it’s all subjective. Someone didn’t like it, and you move on.
You have a great day, too.

  8. Hi Kim! Interesting new title! I like it! I have a degree in marketing, but I personally think Mystic Impact sounds fine. The Undead Pool works too though! Brings me back to the original 3 books that used “dead” and its variants :P . Though I’m kind of glad the titles switched up a bit later on. There are some long series where, while I might recall what happens book by book, the actual titles are so similar that I can’t distinguish them if my life depended on it (ie: using “grave” or “dead” or other popular urban fantasy terms in EVERY title), so I think people should also keep that in mind. For The Hollows I can name every one in my sleep. The play on Clint Eastwood titles was a great move. Either way, I know book 12 is going to be phenomenal. I am seriously counting the days until it’s in my mitts!

  9. Tanya

Just finished Ever After in like less than a day (I’m on vacation). I must say I was relived at the end of the book and yet wanted to throw it across the room XD I used to hate Kalamack, but I’ve actually come to want him and Rachel to get together (Granted I liked Kisten a lot too, but that boat sailed a long time ago). Anyways, just wanted to say I am more than eagerly awaiting your next book because I love the emotional roller coasters I go on every time I read one of your books, plus I am so darn attached to them. And because your book philosophy (How you write them) sort of reflects mine.

    Keep up the good work!

  10. Sara

Hi Kim. I was just wondering about the titles of your books. Are most of them titles you have picked or do they get changed? I saw your one comment about them not liking the title you had submitted so they chose The Undead Pool. Are you allowed to tell us the title you had originally picked? I really don’t want to put down the title for book 12 but all the other books have had such awesome titles and this one just seems a little off for the series, but then it may make complete sense once the book is out.
I’m very sorry, I do not want to offend you by not quite agreeing with this title. And I hope you can tell us your original title!
Your books are amazing and I’m sure book 12 will be just as amazing as the rest no matter what the title is!

    • Kim gotta answer this for sure, but I’m thinking it’s word play on Clint Eastwood movie titles. “the Undead Pool” is, most likely from the 1988 film, The Dead Pool with our man, Eastwood, playing Harry Callahan. I think it brainy fun to play on names, titles, and words. I LOVE puns, as corny as that sounds. And I find it great fun that she plays on them this way.

I sometimes think if I were to follow this pattern with artistic tendencies, I’d use NIN song titles to twist. But I’m sick that way.

    • Hi Sara. Most of my books are not published under the title that I submit them under, (I think I’ve had three, actually) but that is about par for the course. At first I could get away with anything, but now that the books are responsible for so much revenue, everyone from marketing, to sales, to even book buyers for big stores get a say. I once had a last minute cover switch because a big store based in the south wouldn’t buy as many if it had THAT cover. Same with titles. It’s a bit of a sore spot with me, but I pick my battles.
Original title would have been Mystic Impact to reflect a new species called mystics. I like the new title. It is very recognizable.

      • I had no idea that your titles went through THAT much scrutiny. Not really fair when everyone gets a piece of your pie and you didn’t really want to split it a gazillion ways.

There used to be a time when artists of all media had control of their entire works. The vision was in the artist’s hands, not the people with access to pursestrings. That’s why financial backers took a “chance on the artists,” philanthropics and all… Sometimes the payback was tremendous.

Now if a dollar is lost, they drop it like a scalding rock, or worse. If said artist doesn’t read the fine lines, they lose rights to their original works.

  11. When i first started reading the hollows, i thought it was going to be like other novels where it focused mainly on the romance aspect. However the hollows was so much more, I did not expect it to be so epic. Every book was a new journey with cliffhangers that left me wanting more. I will be so sad when the series is over :( , but all good things must come to an end……. Thank you so much for writing such an awesome series <3. p.s i so hope Rachel and Trent stay together. You are truly an awesome author!!

    • Hi Emma. My reading background is SF and fantasy from the 70′s and 80′s and my writing reflects that, but I am a romantic at heart, and the relationships just somehow get in there. :-) I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Thanks!

  12. Kryssal

I was the one who “formally requested more Trent Kalamack” way, way back when (I think before I went to Korea five years ago), so if you don’t remember I fully understand.
They may not end up together and I could see that, but boo because he’s the only one out of all her loves that actually fits. All the others were off in one way or another.
But, hey, just wanted to say thanks for fulfilling my formal request (though it took a few books for it to come about ;)

    • Sorry, Kryssal. There have been so many people with that request that I honestly can’t pick one out from five years ago, but hey! I did it just for you. -grin- I’m enjoying seeing Rachel and Trent come to understanding, but what that understanding is, you won’t know till probably THE UNDEAD POOL, which is next!

  13. Sabrina

Oh…i just realized this forum is for a specific series. I’m so sorry! I have just been scouring the internet for clues to another book for that series and I came upon this. I’m such a goof!

  14. Sabrina

Kim, I am a huge fan of teen fiction so when I read Prom Nights From Hell, of course I quickly became a fan of the Madison Avery series. Are you working on any more books for that series?

    • Hi Sabrina. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed Madison. Unfortunately I decided to cap the series at three plus the original novella. It feels ready to jump into a new set of books, but I said what I wanted to, and have moved on to other stories.
But thanks! Madison is near and dear to me.

      • Sabrina

I can assure you when I list my favorite authors, you are certainly right up there with my Top 10. It did feel like there was a little to be desired from the end of it but that is just as well. I read several different book series’ at a time and it’s easier when a series ends so I can try to focus on getting through the others so I can clear up space for all the other series’ that I plan to jump into. For instance, your various Sci-Fi books and Kelley Armstrong’s books…and Sherrilyn Kenyon, as well.

I tend to stick to teen fiction (I’m 25!) but there are some instances where I grab onto something more for adults. I know Sherrilyn Kenyon’s teen books are essentially a prequel to her Dark Hunters series, so that’s a must. Regardless, I know if I like your teen books, I’ll love the adult books. I’m pretty excited to make some room for your other books, just by reading the other comments in this forum. It sounds like a very addicting series and if you pull me in, I will certainly have my sister pulled in and from there, maybe some of her friends. :) It’s like our own little book club, but without the meetings!

Anyway, I can’t wait to read more from you. Just as soon as I get through my current list of books to finish, if I have room between the end of these and when the next books in a couple of the series’ come out, I’ll pick up more of yours. If not, it’s definitely on my list of books to read (and quite close to the top, if not all the way at the top!).

  15. Just finished rereading the whole series (Ever After for the first time) and wish that I could speed up time so I can read the next installment. Any idea what the name of the next will be?
Love The Hollows and will be sad when the series comes to an end, but excited to see your new venture. :D

    • Wow, thanks, Khali. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Hollows that much. We’re kicking around titles right now. Nothing settled yet, but there are two more to go!

  16. FullmetalHeart20

I was getting really invested in the relationship building between Rachel and Ivy, and was honestly surprised when it didn’t become a full romance. When did you decide things wouldn’t work between them?

  17. Julia Hall

Kim, I have to say when I first got into the hollows I wasn’t so sure how I felt about the series. Since then it has been one of the most anticipated book releases for me to date. I love how the series has not teetered out such as some other series (not naming names). It is going beautifully strong as it did since it first came out. I hopeeeeeeee that Rachel finds her happiness with Trent because after everything she has gone through she deserves to be happy. I believe he has always been her equal, they were both just too stubborn to see that (they both committed rash crimes to save others, destruction, etc with good intentions). In the process of finishing up Ever After and I just feel heartbreak because I don’t want Trent to marry the hag! Thank you for bringing obsession of the hollows to my life and I hope that one day it becomes a major success on the big screen because the world needs to know!

    • Thank you, Julia. I really appreciate that. I’m still enjoying working with Rachel, and I think that shows through the writing.
We shall see what happens. I’m not going to say one thing or the other because a lot can change in the rewrites.
I’d love to see it on the big screen, but my biggest fear is that Jenks would be cut out or made into comic relief, and he’s so much more than that.

    • Diva

      The hag. LOL

  18. Hi Kim,
I just thought I’d pass along that Kobo is carrying EverAfter for 4.99 right now. This includes the bonus chapter. Have a great weekend

  19. New Reader

I have a question regarding your comments about your musical inspirations:

    <>

Is this “fall from grace” a reference to her abuse at the hands of Piscary, to her ‘falling off the wagon’ of abstaining from blood, or to something that is still coming? To be honest, neither of the first two really seem qualify as a fall from grace, but that would be a huge spoiler otherwise.

  20. Sonia Taveras

I really enjoyed Ever After, and didn’t wan it to end. I’m a romantic, and want Rachel, and Trent to stay together; is there a happy ending there? Is there another book after this one?

    • Thank you, Sonia. I reread the last epilog chapter just this week to see if I was on the right track, and I cried from happy, so I think it’s going to be okay. I’ve got two more to go.

      • New Reader

As a new reader, I’m sorry that the series is ending so soon (for me). Your decision to introduce an alternate timeline element to the genre was, I think, inspired. It’s allowed you to experiment with the familiar world in new and inventive ways that make your story world memorable.

I’m also sorry to see that Rachel isn’t getting together with Ivy. You created an interesting/novel set of problems that interfered with their relationship – something different from the usual ‘conflict of personalities.’ I had been looking forward to what sort of solution(s) might develop for them (especially since, in their case, ‘ever after’ could prove to be literal).

Thank you for responding to people here. That alone is enough to make you one of my favorite authors. I look forward to what you create after this series – I hope it’s in the same genre, since you do so well with it.

  21. Khali

Would you be willing to share the translation for the song Trent sang to Lucy when he ‘stole’ her?

  22. Rena

    Hi Kim,
I’ve really enjoyed your work with the Hollows every step of the way and it’s been a pleasure to read every one of them. Thank you so much for every word; I don’t know if you know it or not but a rare Russian term for the tomato is Paradeisapfel, it means apple of paradise. That’s what your books have been for me, a bite of paradise. I recently finished up Into “The Woods” and I’m most eagerly wanting to see more about Meg (Spider Silk) and Grace as you hinted to more stories about them? Well know that I’ll be waiting to read what you write, under whatever name. ;)

    • Thank you, Rena! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the books so much! More is on the way, but if you want to read some of my earlier works, I’ve got about six under the name Dawn Cook. :-)

  23. fuel 90

my question is i just got done reading pale demon i guess i started in the middle is this going to be a problem if i start at the begining now

    • Not necessarily, but you’re going to miss out on a lot, and not everything is going to make sense.

    • I would say if you start at the beginning now…you will still have a great experience. I accidentally started with Outlaw Demon Wails and didn’t really understand why we cared about a certain character until I realized I was on the wrong book. Then I started the series from the beginning and so much happens in each book that the experience was almost new again once I reached Outlaw for the 2nd time. Of course, you will have some spoilers having already read a book so far into the series, but you will get to read why and how all that happened. Also, in my opinion the best book so far is Ever After (the most recent one released) – I feel like this is a series that absolutely gets better as it goes. Kim manages to keep it very fresh and entertaining, and you really should read all to understand why it’s such a great book and to be able to fully fall in love with the many nuances of all the characters. So if I were you, I would definitely start from the beginning. I hope you enjoy!

  24. Franchesca

I just downloaded the Sony eReader and I’m reading it now! Happy Reading!

  25. One more little thing to pass along, I got lucky and have all your hardcover Morgan series as first editions and several signed, too. I screwed up on Ever After and didn’t see the fine print from the place I purchased it. I’m still debating on whether to let it be or buy a first edition. :)

Still waiting to see the last little short that was released as electronic (kindle?) only. Guess there is a hold up somewhere, but someday I’ll get to read it I hope!

    • Martin

Hi Silvermitt, I asked Kim about Trouble On Reserve while she was on tour, and apparently there are contractual issues. My guess is it will be the bonus material in the Ever After paperback release. Just a guess. She PROMISED we would get to see it. I have total faith in her.
      Martin

    • Hi Silvermitt. Martin answered your question.

  26. Hello Kim,
I just read your post yesterday about zero degree lows. Yep, that sucks mud. I’ve got a small garden at home and, usually another really big one at my parents home where there is space. My little garden still needs a few things planted, but we haven’t even gotten the big one tilled because of all the RAIN. Just when things seem dry enough, BAM! more chilly downpours. Tomato and hot pepper plants don’t like it. In fact, they die from it. I now know it because, as I type this, my little sprouts have withered and I’ll be off today to get more hot pepper plants. And this time, they’ll stay in the greenhouse.

My cabbage, onion, brussels sprouts, and potato plants couldn’t be more pleased with the weather. I’m sure of it. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear they’ve a contract with mother nature to bring back the ice age in Indiana. You know, to stop the melon competition from becoming popular again….
Lots of luck getting the garden to stay at full throttle this year.. I think we gardener types are going to need luck and much love from nature to make the gardens good!

  27. Ana

I just got the Hollows Insider!!!Yeeeeeeeessss!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so excited.
It really glows in the dark :) wow, cool book!

Have a nice day, Kim ;)

  28. Hi Kim,
My wife and I both love the hollows series! I have several questions.

I read that you started writing science fiction but then switched to urban fantasy. Could you share what made you prefer urban fantasy over science fiction? Did you publish any science fiction novels?

Also, the article noted that you spend time in South Carolina. We used to live there and both of my children still do. Which part of the state do you spend your time in?

Thank you so much for hours and hours of entertaining reading!
    JF Owen

    • Thanks, Jeff. I’m so glad that you and your wife are enjoying the books.
My first book published was actually traditional fantasy. (FIRST TRUTH by Dawn Cook) but I wrote several short stories with a SF lean to it. They never found publication. I wrote DEAD WITCH WALKING right about the time Harris came out with the first of her Sookie books. Dresden was also just starting out, and the genre urban fantasy didn’t exist as such. I just liked being able to write about my favorite fantasy creatures and magic in a modern setting. I grew up watching Bewitched and love it.

I lived in Rock Hill, thirty minutes south of Charlotte NC. The city doubled it’s size and lost its home-town feeling, so we moved back north to be with family.

  29. FullmetalHeart20

I was always wondering why Trent wanted the Focus so much that he’d torture and kill werewolves. It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with saving the elves. Is it just wanting power over the packs, or hiding it away so it doesn’t upset the power balance in Cincinnati, or some other reason?
I hope my questions aren’t bothering you madam Harrison. I’ve never had the chance to ask an author about my favorite books before.

    • It’s a source of power, though he couldn’t use it. And he did imprison/question Weres, but they killed themselves. He didn’t murder them out of hand. Why would you kill someone you are trying to get info from? I think he was simply trying to keep the focus from the vampires as was Rachel.

      • Diva

I wondered about that. I know that Trent told Rachel he didn’t kill them and I was inclined to believe him even if Rachel didn’t because, as you said, it didn’t make practical sense and Trent is a practical man. It’s good to have this confirmed though.

  30. Kayleigh

Omgsh i love your series! I was so excited when Trent and rachel were FINALLY together for most of the of the book. When does the 12th book come out!? I can’t wait! I’ve read the last 4 books in about 6 days! I can’t put them down. I love them for my kindle. Hope the 12th book comes out VERY soon!

  31. Georgetta

Hi Kim. I just wanted to tell you that you are a wonderful writer. I love Racheals character. I love all the twists and turns you take her on. The choices you make for her never seem out of character. As a reader that is what is important to me. The direction of the story might not be what I would have created but the characters half to stay true to there personalities. You do a spectacular job of this…I couldnt be more pleased…I hope that you write under the same name in the next series you create.

    • Georgetta

Oh my question is there going to be any new characters to the demon world? ( Like someone coming out of hiding?….Possibly a female demon they all thought was dead.)

    • Hi Georgetta. Thanks! I’m glad you like my work. I’ll probably be sticking with the Kim Harrison name from here on out. It’s kind of grown on me.

  32. Linda White

Hi Kim, I’m a little late thanking you for signing my book in Feb. in Asheville. My daughter got it for me as I have trouble getting around.
At any rate I’m waiting for the next ones, and am anxious to see where they go. I for one sort of think it’s time for Rachel to rest before she has a “meltdown”. I think maybe she should give Trent and Al the slip and head to the Bahamas or someplace and find a really interesting non magical but totally understanding hunky human.
The child runs herself to death!

    • Hi Linda. Oooh! I’m so glad you got it, though. I totally agree with you on Rachel taking a vacation, but remember what happened the last time she took one? -laugh- She still can’t show herself in San Francisco.

      • Linda Craft

maybe should could go back to Michigan, the bridge area is out though, we really hate cars going off the bridge

  33. Summer

    Hi Kim!
I just have to say that you are my utmost favorite author. Your humor is sublime and I cant wait to see what else you have up your sleeve for Rache and Trent.
Thank you for being so dedicated to your dream and sharing your exciting imagination with us!
    <3
    Summer

    • Thank you, Summer! I’m so glad you are enjoying my work. I can’t wait for you to see the next one! I think you’re going to like it. :-)

      • Summer

oh i know im going to just love it! I cant get enough of your Hollows series! I just wish it would go on forever!!!
Thanks again Kim for all your wonderful books!!!
        <3

  34. Rita Lockwood

Wow! No question… Just wanted to applaud your patience!

  35. Powerof3

I’m sorry Kim. I don’t mean to come across like that, and I know allowances are made in a lot of book. We don’t need to know why Pixies can do what they do, but I can’t be the only one who’s asked that? I mean no harm or disrespect.

    • Hi Fullmetal. Actually, you are the only one who has asked that, which is why I wondered if you were baiting me. The short of it is Jenks is kind of special. He has taught himself to read when most pixies don’t bother, and that opened a lot of doors. Being shorter lived, they are also very smart, having to jam into seven years what takes most people twenty five.

  36. Franchesca

Not really a question, but I just have to tell you how much I love the dynamics between Rachel and Trent!! I’ve liked Trent from book one. He’s always seemed like the reluctant villian that secreatly wanted to be the super hero, to me at least. I would LOVE to see an anthology all about Trent. I read the one with him and Jenks and I enjoyed that. I would relish seeing more things from his POV especially in regards to Rachel. Anxiously awaiting for 12 &13!!!

    • Thank you, Frnachesca! I’ll be honest. I’m having the best time watching these two dance. Talk about the slow hunt. Wow. The short Trouble On Reserve has Trent and Rachel on a mini adventure, and though it’s from Rachel’s POV, you can see a lot of Trent’s thoughts in it. I’m hoping it is more available come October.

  37. FullmetalHeart20

Will there ever be a reason given why pixies are experts with electronics, assassination and espionage when they live in gardens and are lucky to live past 20, with no education system?

    • Hi Fullmetal. Seeing as this is your second post mildly attacking my world logic, I’m trying to decide if you are genuinely interested or if you are intentionally being brusk with overtones of rudeness in an attempt to bait me. Let me know, ‘kay?

  38. Carla

    Hi Kim,
I had a question about your writing process. How many drafts do you write before you turn the manuscript in to the editor? Also do you edit along the way, or when you have completed the entire book?

    Thanks for your time. :)

  39. FullmetalHeart20

That still doesn’t quite answer my question. Unless you’re worried about spoilers, I’d appreciate a few examples. Otherwise I could read through them again.

    • Wow. Really? You want me to detail it out? No. I’m sorry, but I will not do that. It would take me several hours and I’m sorry, Myankou, but I simply can not devote that much time to a single question. I hope you understand.

    • You could always look up Hollows discussions. There’s a forum on Goodreads and there’s the Ever After Chat page here. I myself love the direction it’s taken with the demons and I noticed the shift starting around Book 6 (Outlaw Demon Wails), so for me it’s not out of nowhere. Kim is excellent at peeling back layers.

  40. Brittney

Oh, Sorry. But I have another question. Why don’t you have any of the books numbered? It drives me completely crazy.

  41. Brittney

I’m on the fourth book and just scrolling through your answers I feel very down, I had high hopes that Rachel would end up with Ivy. Wouldn’t if have made more sense if Ceri and Trent got together seeing that they’re both elves?
Thanks, btw. I love the books, I can’t put them down.

  42. Bjana

    Hey Kim,
Reading is my all time favorite hobby, but as a mom i can’t always find the time until after my little ones are in bed. I jjust finished reading A Perfect Blood and Ever After all through Friday, Saturday and Sunday Night (literally did not sleep, as i could not put the books down – they were that good!).

I absolutely love the hollows series. You are one of the greatest supernatural writers, and are right up there vying for the title of my personal favorite next to Charlaine Harris. I am so big a fan that when i finish reading one of your novels i get flustered and sad that i have to wait a long while before reading the next on. That’s why last year, i did not read “A Perfect Blood” and waited until this year’s book came out before reading both together thinking that would sate my hunger for more Rachel Morgan, unfortunately it has only left me wanting more. I must say that I love where you went with Trent & Rachel and hope that they can romantically love one another and be together in the next 2 books. I think Rachel already loves him and if Trent can see past the responsibilities of his race that he can love her too. Please let it be so…and thank you for doing such a great job developing these characters!

    • Thank you, Bjana. I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the books so much. I totally understand the lack of time, and I’m honored that you relax at the end of the day with my work. Thank you.
I think you’re going to like the next couple of books. :-)

  43. FullmetalHeart20

Kim? I’m a bit unsure about the demon plot line. It seems one moment they were monsters from another world who would kidnap you into slavery, and the next they are a misunderstood slave race. I do not even remember where that came from. This all seemed a bit out of nowhere, so I’m wondering. Was there any buildup to this that I missed?

  44. vampgirl1988

mrs.harrison i have a ? is al in love with Rachel and does not want to say so. i was just wondering or maybe just the thought of bein with her

    • There are all kinds of love, Vampgirl, and I think he loves her, yes. But I am very sure that Rachel doesn’t love him, so it might make for a few interesting encounters.

  45. Maura

Gosh, I love this series!! Can’t wait for the next (last )’: ) two!

  46. meg

great to here, i will miss rachel and the hollows. do u have an idea what u will be writing next. thanks

  47. Currer Bell

This is not a question, but a plea. I’ve just finished Ever After and loved it. I was delighted that it seemed that Trent and Rachel were going to end up together, but…I am uneasy. I have an Spidey sense that tells me that you might be planning a twist that reveals Al as Rachel’s one true love. You’ ve made us love Trent so here comes the plea: DON’T DO IT! I know that Scarlett pined for Ashley but truly loved Rhett. In a hundred romances the seeming villain turns out to be misunderstood and the real hero. Another series just ended on a similar sour note that dimmed the entire series. Wouldn’t an elven-eared red haired elf/demon hybrid baby be wonderful? So, please, don’t do it. (If, on the other hand, a menage at trois were to develop that might be interesting.)

    • Hi Currer. Thanks! I’m glad that you’re enjoying the books. I know a lot of readers are not happy with Charlaine’s last Sookie book, and I think it’s amazing that readers are judging it without having read how she brings about that particular ending. (It’s not out in the U.S. until tomorrow.)
Charlaine has the chops to end it the way she saw it, and I will always support a writer ending a decade long project the way they see fit.

is Ever After the last book in the hollows? i hope not i have not read all the books yet but would hate to have Ever After as the last book. and if it is not how many more well you be writing? thank you

  49. Vicki

I just wanted to thank you or the moderator for marking “spoilers” to my previous post! I somehow didn’t realize how it would read and then regretted leaving that out as soon as I posted.

I love the idea of the ending haunting you and then being freed when it was put down.

I don’t know if Anybody asked this yet, but is there anything you regret putting in a book in hindsight? Like you’d read through your work after it’s published, and think “damn! What was I thinking?”

    • Not so much, no. I usually have the next manuscript done, or at least half way done, before I turn in one that’s due. It spends a year at the publisher where I’m working on the next book, so I have time to go back and change things for quite a long time. I’m running into that right now with Grace, though, because her short story is out there and I wish I’d given her a different last name.

  51. Vicki

    **spoilers**

I’ve read all of the Hollows novels and most of the side stories, and I’ve enjoyed each one. Yet, you’ve outdone yourself with “Ever After”. The story was so masterfully structured and paced, I thoroughly enjoyed it…and then I was blown away by the climax of The Hunt, on mounted gargoyle steeds! I settled in for a nice slow paced Rachel/Trent closing, and then was thrilled again by Al insisting Trent join the collective (and of course the intense bonding and kissing)!

No questions – I just want to thank you for a wonderful, imaginative ride through this book. I so admire what you’ve created.

    Vicki

    Hello Kim,

I was thinking about something as I read “Trouble On Reserve”. When Trent begins driving Rachel and himself away from the boat, he seems to brush her shoulder, and the reader has Rachel’s reaction to that contact. Am I wrong in thinking he did this on purpose? It just seems that in terms of Rachel, there is very little Trent does that is not on purpose.

Second, is this storyline going to continue in the 12th book? I am wondering if Rachel will come to the conclusion that maybe it was Ellasbeth that put out the contract on her, though in TOR her thoughts lead her towards Cormel, which I think is the wrong idea.

  53. Daniel

I was simply wondering if you ever do any favors for deployed soldiers. JuSt started reading ever after on my flight and of course it’s an awesome read. Never got around to reading any of the anthologies so will probably begin ordering them soon. Thanks for your time

    • Hi Daniel.
I usually make a donation to Books for Soldiers (I think that’s the one I give to. I’d have to check, though.) every year for postage and such, but I don’t make any book donations. I hope you enjoy the read, and thank you! My son comes home in just 40 odd days.

  54. Nicole

Thanks for the reply Kim! I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

  55. Hey Kim! I hope everything’s going well! So I got the thinking. You’ve been throwing out the possibility of Grace or Peri being your next series. I was wondering if there’s a chance that both could happen? Kind of like how you were able to publish The Hollows and Madison Avery in the same year. I’m sure that’d be a LOT of work, but there are a few authors who are gluttons for punishment like that, lol.

Are you still watching Defiance? If so, how are you liking it? It’s actually pretty good, though I still get Pale Demon flashbacks. You’ve ruined me when it comes to St. Louis!

Also, some time ago I remember you saying that you plan to see the movie Epic. I hadn’t even heard of the film until you mentioned it and being the cg movie lover I am I added to my list right away. Well, I actually scored screening passes for it next month! I’m really looking forward to it. If you love those kinds I recently saw a screening on Monster’s University and that was fantastic too, but Pixar is usually pretty awesome.

    • Hey Erika: My husband and I are watching Defiance, and I have to agree with you: Pale Demon Flashbacks! :-D
I am so jealous of you scoring screening passes for Epic! It’s very high on our list too., and so is Monster’s University. Love Pixar.
I’d love it, too, if our amazing Ms. Harrison were able to get both Grace and Peri going at the same time (or near the same time). Although I may not be quite as rabid a Hollows fan as some (this is not to say I don’t LOVE the series!), I will definitely miss it when it ends. The characters have definitely grown on me, and some events have even moved me to tears. I’m one of those who contends that categorizing the Hollows as “Paranormal Romance” is way too limiting. I think it’s a terrific Alternate World Urban Fantasy series. (And I’ve been reading fantasy and science fiction since the 60′s.)

      • Hi Amy. I hope you enjoy both films! I’m probably among the hardcore group of fans myself (been reading these since 2005 and I’m as enraptured as ever), and I’ll definitely miss it when it ends, but at the same time I want to know how things play out when the dust settles lol. All good things must come to an end, but at least Kim will make it spectacular. I categorize The Hollows as my all-time favorite series, period.

    • Hi Erika.
Absolutely a chance. I’m working on Grace right now and should have her done by the end of summer. What happens after that, will remain to be seen. I’m patient, but I’m not going to sit around slothfully, and things are piling up, both in my cabinet of awesomeness and in my mind.
I missed Defiance last Monday and am hoping to catch it tonight before the new episode.
Oh wow. Enjoy Epic. I can’t wait for it. And I’ve never seen a bad Pixar movie. Their balance is awesome.

  56. dear kim!
I’m still waiting for the instalment of the princess series!
how is it even possible to WANT to stop a series like that?! it’s damn gorgeous! And i won’t give up hoping that you continue writing at least part 3! i can just call on your sanity again!

    begging regards from germany…again!

    • I was intending two more books, Daniersa, but the Hollows took off and I ended it early. I probably won’t return to her world, as much as I loved her and the magic system. I’m on to new ideas and thoughts.

  57. Ashley

    Hi Kim!
I saw your post on Facebook about the ending of another series. I know you see these bad puppies (and i know this isnt a question ) but as a loyal reader i thought you should know, no matter how you end Rachel’s story it will be fantastic and a great journey that i feel privlaged to have followed. I know ive teased you in the past on Ivy and Rachel hooking up, and what you dis allow us to see was spectacular. You are an amazing writer that i will happily follow into the Hallows every twist and turn even if the outcome wasnt what i hoped for. Its a series i will always tell my friends to read. Many thank yous for this fabulous story.

  58. Frances

Read Book 11 Ever After in 1 day. It is the best written book of the entire series to date. Congratulations. What will be the title of book 12 and when will it be released. Can’t wait to read the two remaining books. It will be sad to say good-bye to all of the characters.

    • Thank you, Frances! I really appreciate that! I don’t have a title for book 12. Not everyone liked my proposed title for 12, so they have to come up with something that pleases everyone, and you know what happens when you try to please everyone.
      Yep, two more to go.

  59. Nicole

When will Ever After be available in the uk? I’ve been looking for it for ages for kindle! Itching too get back into the Hollows!

    • I don’t know, Nicole. It was available for a while, then not, then available, then not. Trust me, I’m about as happy as you are. I. Don’t. Know. And it’s very frustrating. I’ve about had it.

  60. hi,kim boy do i have a BIG,question for you. is it easier to describe a death of a character(using 20 pages or 2 paragraphs)how much is WAY TOOOOOO MUCH? help, my book is almost finished in writing before i put it on disk.

    • Hi Timothy. That depends on how much importance this character was to the main character and how much this death is going to chart the next book. If you want the next one to be about dealing with grief and loss, spend 20 pages. If the book is about something else, downplay it so it doesn’t take over the story. If you’re asking about a recent death in the Hollows, ask me again over at the spoiler page and I’ll give you my reasons.

  61. milly hamilton

That was what I thought. Thank you so much.

  62. Harold Cool

Hello. My name is Harold Cool. I am and avid fan of The Hollows. I like that Rachael, is starting to see her demon side for what it is, a part of her, and I have also envisioned her and Al with kids ……….. I would also like to take this opportunity, to ask if anything will ever come of Rachael and Ivy, cuase there is still the whole saving her soul thing …… two more thoughts and im going, first, Jenks and the fairy, possible couple?, and second will there be another book?( i needs my Rahcael fix :) )

    • Hi Harold. Thanks! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the Hollows. You asked about Rachel and Ivy? It’s not over until it’s over, and I’ve got two more to go. I will tell you that I’m aiming for happy endings for the survivors, and I often make big changes in the editorial rewrite.
Jenks and Belle as a couple? I don’t see that only because Jenks loved Matalina so much. He would never allow himself to love again, but sometimes finding understanding is a good ending.

  63. Brigitte

    Hi Kim,
You mentioned in your FAQ (yes somebody does read them ;) ) that you like that your books are read in Austria. Well, here is another Austrian who very much loves your Hollows series. No idea about a German translation though – I am reading them in English.

So, imagine your book (or actually file on an e-book reader) opened in the shadow of St. Stephan’s Cathedral on a splendid late-April-early-summer afternoon amidst tourists and Viennese, while the occasional smell of horses (there are carriages for tourist rides) and the sound of one or two pigeons drift by.
Ok, open your eyes and jump back to our reality pls. :)

Question (probably heard it a million times): is Ever After the end of the Hollows series?
There are so many possible stories still untold but it also has a feeling of (happy) end in it.
Can we stop biting our nails longing for a new book or will Rachel return?

    • Brigitte

Oh – in case you are wondering which forsaken medieval village I am from: St. Stephan’s Cathedral is in Vienna. :)

    • Hi Brigitte. Oooh, thank you! I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying the Hollows, and honored that yo are reading them in the original English. Thank you.
OMGosh, I think my blood pressure just dropped reading your paragraph description of where you’re reading them. Ahhh. I’m there.
I’ve got two more books to go after EVER AFTER, releasing one per year. And I’m aiming for happy endings!

  64. milly hamilton

OK but do you use your fingers and make a kiss kiss with your lips? Buy the way I love your books.

  65. jessica

Hi Kim thank you sooo much answering my previous questions. You have no idea how much it means to me… I hope I’m not imposing, but I have one last question :) What happened/ happens to Jax while Nick is in the ever after during the day?… and what happened to Jih when Keasley left? is she and her husband tending a garden in an empty house, did she go with him, or…?
Thank you soooo much for your time :)

  66. milly hamilton

what does bunny eared kiss kiss mean?

    • Hi Milly. It’s like a secret handshake between vampires, especially popular in the younger crowd. It can also be used mockingly in the right setting, like flipping someone the bird.

  67. lindz

Thank you for responding to my other question. I was wondering if you’d ever come to the Boston area or a barns&nobles in Burlington MA for a book signing. I would love to meet you one day. Thanks again

  68. Ok, first off, I LOVE your writing Kim! I’ve spread the word and have given others your books to read and got them hooked! :D
Now, I don’t know if you’ve said/answered this elsewhere, but what do each of these words mean exactly? Sa’Han, Tal Sa’han, and Mal Sa’han. I’ve seen it used by Quen to Rachel, Quen/Trent to Ceri, and of course Quen to Trent. Thank you and I can’t wait for the next book to be released!!!

  69. Nikki

Hi Kim!!! Cannot tell you enough how much I love this series. My question is on the pronunciation of Ceri. Is it pronounced (s) eri or (k) eri? Silly I know, but just want to be clear. Thanks a million. *does bunny ear kiss kiss*

  70. Chris

Hi Kim! I’ve *loved* the Hollows series so far. I’m up to book 8 and gotten stuck!

Do you have any idea why Black Magic Sanction isn’t available on the Kindle in the UK any more?

I’m addicted, and am suffering withdrawal symptoms! I read these books every night, and when I’m at the gym (using the Kindle app I increase the font size so I can still read whilst excersizing).

    • Hi Chris. I have no idea why Black Magic Sanction is not available. You are the third person to ask me that, and I’ve got a question in to my editor about it, but communication is slow.

  71. Michael Winters II

Hello, I’m Michael Winters and i’m a new first time writer with my first of 6 book set out online now. My first one , I had to choose from premade pics because I had no artist. I would like to know the easiest way to get ahold of Larry that did your covers. I’m in the same writing type as you, (fantasy/ action adventure) and I want an eye catching character depiction as yours have. If you can help or guide me in the right direction thanks.

    • That’s fantastic, Michael. Congratulations.

The way I would get a hold of Larry is to go through my editor. I don’t have a direct contact with him, so I really can’t help you out. I can say that gaining his expertise is going to be expensive if at all possible. I’m going to guess that like most contracted people that he’s probably pretty busy maintaining his current workload or may even have a non-compeate clause. Larry is one of my favorite perks of going through traditional publishing. Sorry I can’t help you out here. I just don’t have direct access to him as a self-published author would with their cover artist.

Good luck with your work, and I wish you all successes there! It’s amazing to me that there are so many paths to publication now.

  72. Kari

    Hi Kim!
I wasn’t sure where to ask so I thought that here was a good start. I followed the instructions on how to buy a Burning Bunny pin and sent the order and note through Paypal towards the beginning of the month (April). I know you’re very busy and it’s probably just backed up, but I was just worried it may have not went through or if I had done something wrong. I’ve been anxious for a new pin since I lost mine at one of your signings. Thanks! :)

    • Inkie

      Hi Kari!
Don’t worry. I ordered one back in February and it was only sent out a couple of days ago. They’ve just been really busy with the tour and other stuff.
If you click on the ‘contact’ button up above, there’s an address you can email Guy at. He’s really nice so, if you’re getting anxious, don’t be afraid to send off an email : )

      • Kári

Thank you! I figured as much with the tour and everything that’s it would be awhile. I was just worried I did something wrong. Thanks for letting me know though. I’ll give it another week and try emailing him. :)

    • Hi Kari. I’m going to ask Guy about it today. He’s been very slow on the bunny pins as life is kind of chaotic right now, but I think he’s caught up. Hang on.

    • Hi Kari. I talked to Guy. He has sent it, and you should actually have it today or tomorrow. :-)

      • Kari

Thank you! I’ll be anxious all day at work now! I really appreciate it. :) Can’t wait to pin it on my blazer, I won’t lose this one!

  73. Audrey

Hi Kim I was wondering are books 4 & 5, Fist full of charms and For a few demons more available in Hardback? I’m buying the series over again in hard back and these two I can’t seem to find.

    • Hi Audrey. They haven’t done a printing of 4 and 5 for a long time. The original hard cover printings were originally done for the library trade, and they misjudged the desirability of them. I hope they do another reprint soon.

  74. Linda Craft

    Hi Kim,
I’ve been rereading the series and had a silly question. Rachel & the gang keep calling Trent a little cookie maker or shoemaker. Why don’t they ever call him a little toy maker. Elves make toys for Santa.

  75. Joe

How does one remove ‘smut’ from ones soul w/out handing it off onto others? It sounded like it will be removed over time if you ‘do good things,’ but that would bring back the good vs. evil thing and Ceri said that demon smut isn’t the same as doing evil acts, right?

What happens if you die when your soul has smut on it? If you end up in a hell-like afterlife, then does that mean if you’re a white witch but lets say murdered an innocent, you’d also end up with the same type of smut on your soul and end up in the same type of hell-like afterlife?

I’m only half way through book 7 now so excuse me for this question if it’s covered in more depth later on.

    • Joe

P.S. Love the series… hope Rachel and Ivy end up hooking up, feels like every book so far is slowly climbing up to that climax to them finally getting together w/out feeling guilt or uneasy feelings of moving their relationship in that direction. Would be disappointing if they didn’t… although I’m a guy so… my perspective could be a bit different. =)

      • Thanks, Joe. I’m glad you’re enjoying them. I’ve gotten a lot of disappointment over Rachel and Ivy not making a go of it, but I follow my nose, and though my nose first lead me to Ivy/Rachel, it’s not going elsewhere.

    • Hi Joe. You can’t. Once created, it is there to stay, and you can’ only move it around. What happens after you die is anyone’s guess, but it’s pretty clear that most of the population feel it’s a bad thing.

  76. jessica

please… what happened to Keasley?!?! Please help!

  77. Dana

    Hi Kim,
First, thank you for taking the time to answer questions from us all. I’ve never heard of another author who would do this so its really exciting that you do.
I have two questions for you. How do you decide on writing first person over third person? And is there one you favor or one that you find more difficult?
I’ve noticed you do both so I was wondering what the deciding factor on each was.

    • Hi Dana. That’s a great question, and you sort of go by feel. I wrote my first manuscript ever in first person, but rewrote it in third for publication because I wanted multiple viewpoints, and for that, you traditionally need to be in third person. First person is my go-to, but I don’t have a problem writing in third.
I guess my answer would be if you want multiple viewpoints, as in seeing what the antagonist or others are doing when the main character isn’t around, you want third. It’s very flexible, but try to keep the narration to two or three people so the reader can become comfortable with the narrator. If you want to write the entire thing like a detective show where one person is figuring it all out at the same time as the reader, not a moment sooner, then first is good for that and it’s very easy to connect to the reader in first person.
And there’s no reason you can’t write it in one voice and then rewrite it in another. I’ve done that a couple of times now.
      Good luck!

    • I am finishing up a book now where the central character’s POV is written in first person, but supporting characters POVs written as well, but those are in third person. It’s not too hard to follow and it’s a pretty effective workaround.

    • Martin

I have also seen books where several characters have a first person narrative in the story.

  78. Angela

Hey Kim, super big fan! Sorry I never wrote b 4 but all my questions have been answered by other people. Except one, into the woods pg. 348 Trent and Ellie are talking over a sleeping Lucy and he say you didn’t dock her ears. She then says its tradition to wait until everyone who needs proof has a chance to see she is an elf not a changeling. So what’s a changeling? Their is so much I wish to complement you on your books, like all those little hidden movements, colors, sayings that I haven’t seen anybody comment about. Regardless your books from the time a friend gave me the fist book, are my absolute favorite. And I have read TONS of books. So thank you again for the years of distraction and enjoyment I’ve needed. Please, please keep them coming.

    • Hi Angela. Ahhh, it used to be that elves would steal healthy human babies and leave their own failing or dead infants. Not a nice thing to do at all. The human child raised among the elves is called a changeling.
Thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my work. :-)

  79. Allison Sullivan

I have been a fan since I read the advance reader copy of ‘Dead Witch Walking’, and sold your books by the dozens while I worked at Borders Books. I have recently been buying the audios at Audible.com, and noticed that ‘For a Few Demons More’ is not available at their site. Since that is the next one I want to listen to, I was wondering if/when that will be available at Audible.com, like the rest of the series?

  80. Liz Ault

Okay, just finished everafter and read on the back that there are only a few more books left in the series. Is this true?

    • Hi Liz. I’m aiming for 13 total, so yes, just two more regular books to go.

      • Mary

The wait between ‘A Perfect Blood’ and ‘Ever After’ was excruciating… any estimates on the next installment? Even the most vague tidbits are appreciated. I try to find other series to fill the time between The Hollows books, but nothing compares :)

  81. Marie Benedichte

    Hi Kim!
Do you have any good reading tips??( I’ve read all your books several times! Love them!!)
Just got diagnosed with BPPV(Fancy name: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), so I’m simply refusing to lie down and sleep, because everything spins everytime I try ..
It’s almost 6 in the morning on my side of the big rock( Norway) and I’m starting to get crazyeyes.. Need some really good distraction to get me through the next days! :) :)

  82. Kaela

I have finished reading all of the Hollows books (and I adore them), and then i found Into The Woods. You laid down a wonderful world in “Pet Shop Boys,” and I am wondering if you plan on writing a book based on Cooper and his world?

  83. REsisters5592@gmail.com

I have been on the hunt for A fist full of charms in hardcover, but I do not understand why they are price ranging from $146 used on amazon to $990+ new on amazon. I am one book away from a fist full of charms and can’t seem to find one at a good price. (I like the hardcovers)

    • Hi Resisters. Ahhh. It’s because there hasn’t been a new printing of A FISTFUL OF CHARMS in a while, and there simply aren’t that many out there. I hope Harper does one soon. It’s frustrating.

    • Franziska

I have the same problem. It’s even worse, actually, because I live in Austria and the “cheap” 150$ doesn’t ship there. So I’d have to pay 900+$. I have all the other books in hardcover and I’m quite upset that I can’t find an affordable copy of A Fistful of Charms. :(

  84. Nancy H

Hi Kim! I had to smile last night as I finished “The Taken” by Vicki Pettersson. She gave you a nod when she had a character come in with a burning bunny pin on his lapel. It is so fun to have authors I enjoy reading indicating they enjoy other authors I enjoy reading! Thank you for doing what you do!

  85. Jamie

    Hey Kim,
I don’t really have a question, just a sad rant. I have been a follower of the Rachel Morgan series for years, as most other people on here. I was 40 pages away from finishing Ever After when someone smashed the window to my car and stole my book (amongst other things) last night! So now I feel the scene I was at is on ‘pause’ in my brain and I have to wait until next week to go get another copy! AHHH!

    • Oh no! That’s horrible, Jamie. One of my pet peeves is a thief. I work so hard for what I have, as I’m sure you do, and you know they didn’t need a book to survive on…even such a great one as Ever After. I’ve had this happen to me too a few times with CD players and a Maroon 5 CD. I hope you get to continue the story again soon.

    • OMGosh, Jamie. That is awful! I can’t believe they took your book! I hope you get one ASAP. Watch out for spoilers.

  86. KerrieLynn

Hi Kim, just a quick question. I was wondering if ta nay aha was ever translated.

  87. vampgirl1988

hi mrs.harrison do you think that ivy and Rachael will ever be more than friends

    • That’s a hard one to answer, Vampgirl. I think they already are, seeing as they would risk their life for each other, but I know that you are asking if they will ever share blood or their bodies, and I don’t think so. It would destroy everything that Ivy has worked for.

  88. Mary

I just finished Ever After and I must say WOW. It was the best book yet. I stayed up until 1am to finish it. That’s the Rachel I’ve been waiting to see. She’s so strong and kind and I was tired of seeing her as the scapegoat for everyone else. Thanks Kim. And for what it’s worth, I think Trent has always been Rachel’s soul mate and always will be. They see each other without blinders on. That’s love that has the potential to last. I am already chomping at the bit to read #12. Thanks again for all of the entertaining hours of reading.

  89. Hey Kim!
Just finished another re-read of the series…again. I’ve been reading your books for the last six years so that is a lot of rereading!! I have a couple of questions:
    1. When a master vampire takes over someone, is the other person aware of what is happening and stil have some control or are they completely under
    the master vamp’s control?
    2. In DWW, when Ivy would “vamp out” around Rachel, was it all Ivy or was
    Piscary mixed in there somehow?
    3. In The GBU, when Rachel told Ivy that Trent’s blood tasted like cinnamon, how did Ivy know he was an elf? Weren’t the elves thought to have been extinct since The Turn?
Thanks so much for your time and answers!

    • Hi Keeley. You bet.
      1. They are aware, yes, but how far they have lost their volition varies. Sometimes it takes a nudge from the master to get the desired response, sometimes a lot more.
      2. It was all Ivy.
      3. Vampires talk of what people taste like after eating or drinking different things, and the masters know and talk about elf blood occasionally. It’s like a urban legend.

  90. Lisa

    Dear Kim,

I once felt compelled to write a comment to you about how much I enjoyed Pale Demon, and would now like to commend you on Ever After. As an Ohio native recently transplanted to Michigan, your books hold a soft spot in my heart, although I have yet to visit the Mackinac Bridge. While not originally from Cincinnati, my job took me to the south for several years, and I will always remember the curious sensation I felt when rounding that curve in I-75N at night, the lights of Cincinnati twinkling below me like jewels, telling me I was home again.

One thing I’ve noticed about your books is that you do not shy away from bringing about the deaths of major characters to further the plot. Learning of Ceri’s and Pierce’s loss was a shock; it was unexpected, I did not see it coming, and it hurt. And it was supposed to. That took guts, but it worked.

Thanks for allowing Rachel to heal Trent. It was only fair. And thanks for bringing out Al’s humanity. I always felt he was a decent guy under all the scars, as much a victim of circumstance as anyone. And, now especially, I believe that he, and perhaps even Newt, are still salvageable.

I do wonder where Rachel’s heart will lead her. I used to think that Pierce was one of the best matches for Rachel, but his seemingly final demise has narrowed the field. Truthfully, I can see either Trent or Al. Or both. Although, if you truly consider your readers’ comments, I would implore you not to allow a sordid love triangle to hijack the plot. That unfortunate occurrence spelled the demise of another wonderful book series, as I’m sure you are well aware. Please have a heart-to-heart with Rachel, Trent, and Al, and ask them who their soulmates really are. Or perhaps you can convince them to all play nicely together if they cannot choose.

Looking forward to the next book,
    Lisa

    • Thank you, Lisa. I’m really pleased that you are enjoying the books so much. Clearly you’ve been giving them a lot of thought, and I appreciate that as I put a lot into them. I actually never saw Al as a soul mate, but I’ve gotten comments from readers that they think he’s the one for her. We’ll see. :-)

      Hi Lisa,
Rachel decided very quickly that Pierce would not be a good match. He did not have a strong moral sense, and was very loose with the black magic. He gave very little consideration to the consequences of what he did, he was careless and people got hurt. Rachel didn’t like that. Ultimately it was this that led to his death, and his carelessness also killed Ceri.

One of the things I admire most about Kim’s books is that the writing examines these tough moral questions. We, the readers, are challenged to look at these questions, and think about our own responses, our own morality. Great literature does that.

    Hi Kim,
I’m working on a paper and I would love to write about you. I’ve looked everywhere and am havong trouble finding any information on your childhood..Would you be able to fill in some blanks?

  92. Hi Kim, I’ve been trying to keep my random questions to myself as I usually forget about them later but this one’s been bugging me: Could an undead vampire who has regained their soul walk under the sun? Also, while I’m here, will we have to wait for after the release of the final Hollows book before we see any of the new stuff you’re currently working on? Thank you!

    • Hi Natasha. No, he or she could not. That light restriction doesn’t go away since it’s a light-sensitive virus that makes it all work.
I’m thinking that it won’t be until 2016 before Peri sees the shelf, yes.

    Hi Kim,
I was just wondering about the vampire’s living bloodline… How are Ivy and Erica full sister, but of different bloodlines? The same question goes for Kisten… How is he the last of his (Felps?) when his sister and nephew are still alive? So what made Ivy part of her mother’s bloodline as opposed to her father’s?

    • Hi Jessica. Erica took their father’s last name to keep his bloodline going, and Ivy took her mother’s, so they are full sisters, but of different bloodlines. Same thing with Kisten. As the first born, Ivy took the more status-holding bloodline, her mother’s.
      Hope this helps.

I am re-reading the series and just read about your little gifts in the SASE envelopes and had an idea for the next one. How about the toe tag that Ace gave you in the 5th book. I’m an RN and maybe our humor is a little gruesome but would be a great All Hallow’s Eve gift.

  95. Re-reading your entire Rachel Morgan series. I’m curious: Gnomon and Shadow go together. What is the equivalent of Gnomon for a scion? Do Scions simply call the vampires they’re…bonded to master?

  96. I love your use of old-fashioned sayings and vocabulary to make Felix and Pierce sound well, from another century. I was wondering what sources you used to help you determine what they would say and how they would say it.

    • Hi Robin. My goal with Pierce wasn’t necessarily make his vocabulary correct to his century, but distinctly different, so the phrases he uses tend to cross socioeconomic levels, but the phrases I got from a Writer’s Digest book about life in early America.

    Kim,
I love the hollow series in fact I had let my mother in law borrow them to read. Then bought them again since they didn’t get returned. I am really going to miss this series. When is the next installment due? I read Ever After and found it very intriguing. I loved the Ending. It has had me wondering a few things I hope you might answer for me. A few what if’s …
First Since Rachel was accepted by Trents goddess could it be in the Goddesses plans to bond them together as soulmates since Trent is an Elf Prince and Rachel has been marked to serve her? Will Trent realize he can save his race without giving up his real chance at happiness with Rachel? Will ellasbeth betray her race due to scorn if Rachel and Trent get together? and final question once the feud between the demons and the elves is over What trouble are the undead worried about the cities power structure going to cause?

    • Thanks, Tammy. I’m so glad that you and your mother in law are enjoying the books! Look for the next one sometime between January and March of next year. We’re talking about the cover already! You had some questions, but really, I can’t answer any of them! Sorry!

  98. Yuki

Hi Kim, I was just a little curious about the ending to Ever After. Did Trent seriously ask Rachel to become his mistress? Don’t get me wrong I’ve been waiting for this moment since the very first book, Trents always been a favorite to me and I swear I almost had a heart attack when it happened. I love your work and hope to see Elizabeth kicked to the curb in the next book (Wink Wink)

  99. Mary

    Kim,
Spring’s in the air! Please warm my day by dropping a hint for your next “Rachel” book release?

  100. Shannan

    Kim,

Like everyone else I love the Hollow series. I just have one major question. Will we ever have a listing of translations for the elvish that is used in the books? I’ve just finish ‘A Perfect Blood’ and am curious as to what Trent actually said to Al.

    • Thank you, Shannan. I’m so glad that you are enjoying the Hollows. I probably won’t have a translation made up special since there really isn’t that much said. But you never know.

  101. Leslie

When can we expect the next book?! My book club is dying for more Rachel Morgan.

  102. Jen

    Kim,

I just have to gush about the Hollows series; I’m rereading it all now; back on book 1 after reading Ever After. I read so many different series from all sorts of authors aimed at the super natural realm and only YOUR Rachel Morgan books have kept me intrigued, happy and satisfied for so long. I’m so sad to hear the books end at 13 but I understand the sense in wrapping everything up. I love the characters so much! I’m happy that Ivy is growing, but I wouldn’t want to see Rachel live with anyone else (except maybe Trent :: wink, wink!::) I talk about Jenks’ character to so many people, his phrases and mannerisms are hilarious! I love this thing going on with the development of Trent, Al and Rachel these past few books. I have a hard time consistently picturing what Al looks like to me though. Someone said Jude Law? I’m thinking No, no no…he’s more hard edged than that. Maybe Carlo Rota, character Morris O`Brian on TV Series 24, what do you think? Here’s a pic… http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2976356608/nm0744690. The “ruddy complexion” and blocky teeth descriptions always throw me off though. Trent is fabulous! His point of view chapter was so fullfilling. The end of Ever After was like…”Oh WOW!” (Al made me laugh a lot during that too!) I love how he analyzed Rachel’s past boyfriends, and I love that he didn’t insult Kisten. I’m still mourning Kisten’s death in the series; maybe Rachel could have a wonderful dream with him in it? I’d love to think she could bring his vampire soul back but I realllllyyyy like Trent for Rachel now. LoL. Anyway, I’m sorry to ramble but I had to tell you how fabulous your work is! Even a middle-aged business man I met at an airport saw Ever After in my hands and said “Oh, have you read that yet? It’s the best book in the series so far!” I read little paragraphs to my husband, sigh aloud, laugh constantly and no other books have brought me so emotionally in that I’ve cried for a character which I’ve done for Jenks and Kisten. I cried so hard when Matalina died! I can’t wait to see how you end things; just wish it didn’t take so long! Oh, one more thing, are you thinking of writing another series after you’re done with the Hollows? I’d love to continue to read your work for years to come!

    • Hi Jen. Thanks! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the series so much! That is everlasting cool that you had a conversation about the books in the airport. I’ve only seen my books in the wild once before.
I’m working on the next series right now, actually. I think you’ll like it.

  103. Sara S

    Hi Kim,
I wanted to ask if, in Ever After, right at the beginning, was Trent jealous that Rachel and Quen were spending time together and keeping it a secret from him? It seems like he thought their meeting might have had a dating atmosphere, because he asked if Ceri knew about them meeting. And he gave Quen the stink eye… especially after Rachel play-flirted by grabbing Quen’s arm. lol

Or was it just that he knew they had met to discuss him, and he was wary of what had been said?

    • Hi Sara. Yes he was, even though his logic correctly told him he had nothing to be jealous about. But he was also concerned about them talking about him behind his back, too.

  104. meg

  105. Hi Meg. No, Ever After isn’t the last one. I’ve got two more to go.
