Hi Kim I just finished A Perfect Blood, wow what a book. But….I am wondering if you will be putting Rachel and Trent together romantically. I think they would be good together…. I got little hints of Trent liking Rachel but is afraid to let her know. He is changing,(or am I wrong) I would love to see them finding that they truelly have feelings for each other and want to explore it. They are good together….huh huh…..cathy s.

Hi there Kim..I have a question that has been bugging me..it’s a little personal so you can tell me it’s none of my business..it’s cool!! I read on your website about how you decided to become ‘Kim’ and Dawn is you at home(or real) persona..Question: If I saw you at the local Safeway buying groceries, would I recognize you?? In other words, is you real hair red and do you wear the same makeup that you wear while you are ‘Kim’?? See I told you it was a weird question..I don’t have to know if you are blonde or brunette, I think I know, but I imagine you putting on your red wig to become ‘Kim’!! and taking it off to go fix dinner or go to the dentist. I can’t tell you why this is making me crazy..it’s just how my warped little mind works!
I know I would recognize your hubby cause he doesn’t look differently, but I don’t know if I would know who you were at the soccer field or the movies. That seems like the way to keep a personal life even tho you are becoming famous..you are a genius for thinking of the wig! Like I said you don’t have to give away any secrets. I’m just curious. I think I would love to meet Dawn. You are a very talented artist. Thank you for your work..BTW I love the Truth series..that’s how I was introduced to your work. Onward and upward! Thanks, Brenda

    Yasmin-lol!
Martin-Thanks, but that doesn’t explain how he could have more children.

  4. thank you kim for the reply. i have just set up a website. i know that you’re a very busy woman, but could you stop by sometime maybe, like it and…(dare i ask?) leave a comment please? it would be greatly appreciated if possible. if not i do understand.. thanks, and continued success to you.

  5. Anna

    Wow Kim, a fan fic!!!
I imagine that means u sold your rights for the TV series. Congratulations!!!

  6. Katie

I thought earlier in the series, Jenks only had 40-some children and Rachel gave him a wish that would keep him from having more. Now he has 54 kids? What happened?

    • Yasmin

Maybe there were some buns in the oven? ROFL Sorry, not helpful I know. I just couldn’t resist.

    • Martin

In the novella “Ley Line Drifter” it was explained that populations in pixy families can fluctuate. Disruptions in the household, such as moving, losing part of a garden, poor harvest, a brood born too close to winter, difficulties with hibernation, etc. can cause deaths. And with so many kids, who can keep track?

just a thought …why no dragons yet? they be perfect for causing chaos and are on par with a demon in power. there is plenty of lore where they take human form and are powerful spell casters and typically there greatest weakness is thier obsessive treasure hording. I love the hollows and it would be more entertaining to think that perso that hords every thing on your street is really a dragon in disguise….so why no dragons?

  8. Elle

I was wondering if Rachel and Ivy ever managed to definitively resolve the issue of Ivy’s instincts, whether through spells or Ivy’s willpower. On a similar note, Rachel offers to trade Marshall some charms that will eliminate scent in “A Fistful of Charms”; why hasn’t she ever used these to curb Ivy’s instincts?

    • Hi Elle. Ivy has worked through it emotionally, which is why I’m so proud of her. Ivy, and Rachel, would have thought scent charms would have been cheat. Removing temptation rather than working through it.

  9. can u write us one about the war between the demons and the elves/witches, maybe with some ancestors of the present characters and Al & Newt of course, before he went soft and she got crazy

  10. hi Kim, I’m a fan of the hollows. your style of writing i think really pulls in the reader and leaves them wanting more. i am also a writer and my first novel “the Reaper’s Walk (Greyhart Press) is due out later this year . i would love to one day be as popular as you. my question is, can you tell me a few of the things you did when you were starting out to promote your first books? what worked for you and what didn’t? Thanks and i wish you continued success.

    • OMGosh, Don. Things have changed so much since then, what I did looks like small potatoes. But it never hurts to get to know your local book store and set up some signings. I’d say it might be a good idea to start a internet platform with FB and bloging, or even a website to get your name out there and have a place for people to go when they want more info. Good luck! It’s a lot of fun!

  11. Leslie

Hi Kim! I love your books but something is driving me crazy! What the heck is a ‘bunny-eared kiss-kiss’? I assume bunny ears are like when you do ‘air quotation marks’ with your fingers but is she also doing kissy noises and what is the significance? I feel like a moron asking but I have never heard this saying before.

    • Thanks, Leslie. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. I have a YouTube of the kiss-kiss. Just follow the FAQ tab at the top of the page and scroll down a little. :-)

      • Aha! So, that is exactly how it is done – nice to know. :-)
After watching the short bunny-eared kiss-kiss, YouTube gave me the chance to watch you talking about the series/characters/Black-Magic-Sanction in particular. It was great to see you talking and working and walking. I am sure you know these characters better than your neighbours! And Rachel certainly is a disaster – and is very annoying at times (but, that doesn’t detract from the stories).
I love that you engage with your readers like this; and you handle the occasional negative comments so well.

      • Martin

Whenever someone does the “bunny eared ‘kiss kiss’”, in the back of my mind I hear someone saying “bite me”.
        Martin

  12. Walter

Hey Kim, I just started reading the series (I accidentally read Outlaw Demon Wails first), and I while I am enjoying the books immensely, there is sooo much backstory to get through till I’m caught up. I was wondering if you were planning to start a new series any time soon…

    • Thanks, Walter. I’m so glad you’re starting up the Hollows. Do read them in order if you can. They are a lot more enjoyable that way. :-)
I’m already working on the next series, though it won’t be out for several years.

  13. caleb beldom

Thank you for answering my question. Couple more please? Lol. 1. What does Trent think of Keasley? He must know Ceri lived with him. 2. What’s your favourate piece of magic Rachels used? 3. Im also big a Bis and Erica fan, any juicy moments coming up for them? 4. Lastly I aplaud your decision to end the Hollows on your terms, but after the series is finished would u be open to more graphic novel stories? There great! Hope you and Guy are well. Thanks. Caleb in the UK

    • Hi Caleb. Mmmm.
      1. I’ve no idea.
      2. I really can’t pick just one. Sorry.
      3. Ahh, no. Erica is like a minor, and so is Bis.
      4. I’m not keen on scripting any more graphic novels myself, no. There just isn’t enough dialog to satisfy my inner urge to ramble.

  14. Lisa

yeah, I’m about sick of Rachel too, and I dislike Ivy even less and Jinks is getting annoying. The only reason I’ve read up this far is to see who she winds up with, I think I’ll just read all of you all’s comments when the next book comes out to see who she winds up with and call it quits.

    • Rita Lockwood

Whatever happened to the old adage, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all!” No one is forcing you to read the books!

      • Don’t worry about it, Rita. Lisa and Amy were both new posters, and they are trolling. I seriously could not care less.

      • Martin

This is so strange to me, that people would deliberately set out to pick fights. I volunteer in prisons so I know that this type of personality exists, but I’ll never understand it.
        Martin

    • mike

Hi Lisa, If you dont like a book series or a TV program or whatever. change the channel, quit reading the series. Appears to me that you have read 12 in a series of 13. Are you American? Last I heard we are not being forced into viewing anything we dont like. Except maybe the news. Then again all you have to do is change the channel.

    • That sounds like a financially sound decision, Lisa. Go for it. I do that myself when screening knitting books. Saved myself lots of grief.

  15. Hi Kim,

I’m Huge fan of Rachel and the Hollows and can’t wait to read your other books, quick question about writing – Do you ever listen to music when you write? And if so, what kind? I’ve been writing reviews for years and I’m dabbling in a story of my own, writing with music ( especially grand films cores) seems to elevate me, just curious if you do the same?

    Kasia S.

    • Thanks, Kasia. I really appreciate that. I do. My radio is on all the time. Right now I’m chillin’ to the sound of crickets, but usually it’s electronic dance music with a very strong beat or music you might hear at a spa that has none at all. No lyrics generally. They are distracting. I like soundtracks to major motion films, too.

  16. Beverley Dear

Dear Kim, I am studying for a Masters at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, which has a module on Vampire Literature. We are organising a fun mini-conference and presenting papers to other students and lecturers. I would like to look at the way writers use real locations with paranormal characters to comment on real issues and I would love to talk about the running joke about the killer tomatoes. The image of Glenn secretly hooked on pizza and swapping charmed handcuffs for sauce is hilarious, but there is also the more serious question of the ban on genetic research.
Is this what you intended to say or am I completely mistaken?
I can’t begin to say how much I love the books!

    • Thank you, Beverley. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books so much. One of the reasons I have the tomato as the GMO that started the plague is a nod to the reality of them, yes. There’s a lot of good out there, but some of the things that are being done make me cringe and ask how much thought is really being put into it.

  17. Leticia A.

    Hi,
I just wanted to say that I fell in love with your princess series. I absolutely love Tess. My question to you is will you be ever continuing the series. I’d love to see what happens with jeck and Tess. Also the rest of the kingdom. I hope that you will be. Hope to hear from you soon thanks for your time.

    Sincerely,
    Leticia A.

    • Thank you, Leticia! I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed Tess and Jeck. Me too. I think it has one of my best magic systems ever. I agree it feels like there is one more book in there, but unfortunately due to time constraints, I probably will never write it. sigh

  18. Amy

I read Dead Witch Walking after getting it for free on my Nook 2 years ago. I didn’t read the rest of the series until recently and really loved all of the books/characters until Pale Demon. I was mostly annoyed with Rachel throughout this book and am starting to get annoyed with her in Perfect Blood – here is why. If after everything she has gone through she doesn’t learn then it is frustrating – I feel the way she is portrayed in these books (pale demon and so far perfect blood) is how she should have been portrayed in the beginning. Now after everything she should have more confidence, more trust – Trent did save her life and put her soul in a bottle and in the next book she doesn’t know if she can trust him?? That is just frustrating. She whined her way though Pale Demon and her treatment of Pierce made me like her character a great deal less – which annoyed me because I really liked her prior to this book – the strong, assertive woman. now it seems like she can only be strong if she is angry. Trent had fingers pulled off for her, gave her back her soul, gave her a way to escape Al, made her his daughters God Mother and she still doesn’t know if she can trust him?? I would have to walk away from that person and if I hadn’t invested myself in reading all of the other books I would have walked away from this series. Please make her strong and someone we want to be friends with instead of someone no one can reason with or someone who always has to do things her way with a fight first – I could not see why anyone would want to save her in Pale Demon she was that annoying to me. David put her on his insurance and paid off lawsuits and is a good friend and she won’t get a tattoo for him which is part of being in his pack without being a huge PITA (pain in the ass). Dealing with her regarding just about anything is annoying and I would imagine most people would stop rather than keep being put in harms way when you need to fight her tooth and nail about every single decision. I am having a hard time liking her anymore and that sucks.

  19. Sarah

I love these books! And I’m pretty sure the only question I have is…when are Rachel and Trent getting together? I absolutely love both of their characters and it just feels like they are slowly drawing closer to each other. Obviously this question can’t be answered plainly, but is there any information you can share about your plans with them?

  20. Misty

do you have a picture of Rachels tattoo?

  21. Khali

Hey Kim! I was wondering a couple things:
    1) Where did you get the idea for Ceri to put cloth over the top of the mirrors to keep out bad spirits?
    2) Did you make the ‘Kalamack’ sign that is in the picture of your old ‘office’ (the one between your kitchen and, I think, living room)?

My husband splurged and bought ‘A Fistful of Charms’ for my birthday on eBay for $99.99. I feel like the most spoiled, loved woman in the world right now. I will definitely be brining my copy with me to be signed when you are close to me! Can’t wait for the next installment. Its probably an unhealthy love that I have for the Hollows…but I don’t have any complaints. Haha.

    • Hi Khali. OMGosh, really? Unfortunately they have not done a reprint of the hard cover for that one, and it is the rarest Hollows book apart from some of the early ARCs. Wow.

You had some questions. Ahh, the practice of covering mirrors to keep the dead from being confused is an old one, actually. I’v no idea where I first heard it.
A reader made me that sign, actually. It tickled my funny bone, and I kept it all this time. :-)

  22. Rebecca Fuller

    Hi Kim,
I was wondering I finished reading A Perfect Blood, and I really liked the book, but I was wondering why Edden wasn’t in the book? Will he be in the next one?

    Rebecca.

    • Hi Rebecca. I like keeping my cast of characters as slim as possible, and if a character isn’t in two or more chapters, I usually cut them from the list. Glenn had more of a reason to be there, so he was the FIB presence. Edden does show up in future books.

  23. Mary

    Hi Kim,
I just have a quick question. I took part in the manic monday in April and got a ODW book. I have not received the book yet though. I emailed guy at the beginning of the week but have not heard back. Do you think i just need to wait a little longer or has it got lost in the post? Its coming to the UK.
    Thanks
    Mary

  24. Hi, Kim

    How are you?
I don’t know if this is the right place for this, but here it goes!
I’m a Portuguese Literary Blogger and I’ve been following your fabulous Hollows series since they were first published here, in Portugal, by Saída de Emergência. Seeing that I am a big fan of your work and that I would be honored to know a little bit more about you and your characters/books, I wanted to ask you if maybe we could do a writing interview?

I would love to hear from you!

    Have a great weekend!
    Best Wishes,
    Patrícia Pecegueiro (blog Pedacinho Literário)

    • Hi Patricia. Thank you! I’m so glad you are enjoying the books so much! This is the right place, yes, but unfortunately I’m not able to grant interviews unless they come through my publisher or agent. I wish I could say otherwise.

  25. Miguel

Why was my ??? Removed only aftert a day?
These books help me a lot move away from a life of not reading? J/w if nick really that bad of a guy cause he was cheated on?

    • Miguel, I don’t know what happened to your question. I trim the questions off the bottom of the page about once a week, and they are usually a month old by the time I do it. I’ve no idea what happened to your question, because I remember answering it. I can’t find it anywhere. But I am glad you’re enjoying the books, and whether Nick is really bad or not is a question that will be answered as the series progresses.

  26. Tina Popham

Hi Rachel, I just bought A Perfect Blood!!! Loving it so far, but on page 159 in one of the paragraphs there is a huge ink splotch, and I cant get past that! It’s killing me that i can’t read it, I was wondering if you could email me the paragraph or something…HELP!!! I’m desperate!!

    • Thanks, Tina. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Take your copy back to the store you got it from, and they will give you an new one. Printing errors are a pain in the butt.

  27. caleb beldom

Hi kim remember me? Lol. I used to post on here a lot before my son was born. Still a huge fan of the books. Just finished BMS and starting Pale Demon. Absolutley Awsome. Loved seeing the glimpses of Rache and Trent at camp and the heartbreaking end of Matalina was genius. Will we see more of Ceri? She’s so sweet (and a bit scary) and I was wondering if after she has the baby would we be able to see her in some action scenes? Also does she see Keasley often now she’s with Quen? And what does Quen think of Keasley? Thank you very much. Love the hollows just ordered Blood Crime and the hollows insider. Keep up the great work! Caleb in the U.K

    • Hi Caleb. Yes! I remember you. Ohh, Pale Demon is one of my favorites. I hope you like it. Ceri is around, yes, but Kesley is being elusive. :-)

      • caleb beldom

        Hi Kim

Thank you for answering my question. What does Trent think of Keasley? He must know Ceri lived with him. Also what’s your favourate piece of magic Rachels used? Im also big a Bis and Erica fan, any juicy moments coming up for them? Hope you and Guy are well. Thanks. Caleb in the UK

  28. Robert

Hi Kim, I just had a question thats been driving me crazy for a while, but in A Perfect Blood, Winona says she was worried about her cat and we never found out if it was okay :)
    But I loved the book

  29. Antonio

    8-) HeyHey, how’s it going?

1)CW: I’m not a Hollywood executive(Oh man! wouldn’t it be cool if I were?), but I do know that initial Fall television plans made in the preceding Spring are by no means the “be all-end all” in network scheduling. Here in America, most shows are NOT season-long orders(22+ episodes), so there is always a need for winter, spring, and even summer original programming.
2)Coffee: I read an article in the paper yesterday that quoted the New England Journal of Medicine study that stated that drinking coffee lowered one’s risk of death, while drinking tea increased the likelihood of an early death(OK, I made up that last part*grin). What do you think, are you going to start drinking coffee now?
    3) It’s official: Ridley Scott and original screenwriter, Hampton Fancher(what a name, right?!), are working on a BLADE RUNNER sequel.(NOT a prequel) What do you think?

    • Hi Antonio. I’m waiting to hear back from my agent. It doesn’t seem, oh, the word escapes me, that I would have to find out what’s going on from readers.
      2. Tea, good. Coffee bad.
      3. Very cool! I’d be interested, very interested.

  30. Milana

Hi Kim, thanks for reply but will there be a book, not graphic novel, on Eachel/Ivy 1 year work? I really hope there will. Thanks, milana

  31. maiola808

Ok so is CW dropping the hololows for real? or was the Hollows going to be in a different season than fall? Will we hear in June? Im so confused >< … but on a positive note, I was watching "Once upon a time" and decided that Jennifer Morrison who plays "Emma" would be an awesome Rachel!!!! All I could see while watching the series was Emma "is" Rachel!! What do you all think?

    • Not as far as I know, Maiola. CW does have programing other than from 8-10 M-F. I’m hoping to find out from them, rather than the internet word-of-mouth.

I’ve not seen Once upon a Time. Sorry.

    • Rita Lockwood

Good call Maiola! I watch that show… She would make an EXCELLENT Rachel!

  32. Casey

    Hi Kim,

I’m new to The Hollows series but have caught up in a week – yes I
booked-sucked all ten; and they were fantastic. I tend to get
lost in entertaining stories, over-thinking them, I’m sure. I had a
    question that stems more from a what if… If Rachel and Trent did consummate their relationship and Rachel subsequently became pregnant;
would Trent feel the same to Rachel’s child as he does toward Lucy or
would he view the child as a Demon, threat and attempt to kill his
child? I guess I’m wondering if Trent has really changed – able to
judge based on who a person is/their choices rather than what they
are. I admit that I’m hoping he’s changed; just thinking about Nick
makes me feel like nails on a chalkboard sounds.

    • For one…WOW!! TEN books in SEVEN days?! How is that even possible? The Hollows novels are fairly long! That’s probably the fastest I’ve heard so far, so congrats to you! And your question is very interesting. Looking forward to Kim’s response.

    • Hi Casey. Dude, you are a fast reader. I’m thinking that that is a question you’re going to have to figure out for yourself.

    • Martin

      Hi Casey,
You read them all so fast, you missed important stuff. Speed reading isn’t always the best way to read. You also miss out on the poetic descriptions and the mood setting that goes on. Suggest you re-read, a little more slowly. I think you’ll find more enjoyment. That is the purpose of reading fiction.
      Martin

  33. Hi Kim,
Not really a question at all, I just wanted to tell you that I love the name Ellasbeth so much that I have decided to give it as a middle name to my daughter should I ever have one :)

  34. bratty

mrs. harrison have u heard and thing eles from cw yet and if so do u know when they will start showing it

  35. Keith

    Kim,

“A Perfect Blood” seems like a rushed novel to me compared to the previous books in the series. I still enjoyed it, but HAPA seemed to be too wimpy of an antagonist for the likes of Rachel & Company, even with Rachel’s handicap.

Will we ever see Glenn again?

  36. Angelica

If you ever make the Hollows books into a movie you should have music by T.A.T.U. in it, especially Not Gonna Get Us and All The Things She Said.

  37. Sandra

    Hey Kim,

I was wondering that if a demon puts his scar on someone and dies before the favor has been returned (and the scar is still there) – then who is the person with the mark turning to to have it removed? Who is he/she owing?

And how does it help the demons to draw someone to the Ever-After when there’s a lot of smut on their auras? Do they still need their permission?

Could any other witch as well have turned a human into a familiar? Or did it just work for Rachel because of her “condition”?

    Oh, I think I’m thinking too much… :) bye

    • Hi Sandra. That’s a good question. I think it depends on who that demon owes a debt to, and if there is no one, then I guess the debt simply goes unpaid. As for the second question, it’s faster when the demon has permission, but they can take someone even without it by dragging them to a ley line.
It only worked for Rachel because she’s a demon.

  38. Jack Yost

Sorry, not a question. Just say the new Dark Shadows. check out Eva Green as the witch. I thought maybe you had taken up acting. the perfect Rachel if there is a movie in the works.

  39. Miranda

    Hi Kim!
I’ve read all the books in the Hollows series and had a question (or maybe a couple). After reading everyone’s questions and your responses here, I’ve come to realize the Rachel/Ivy relationship will most likely never be anything other then just friends.

My question(s): What happened? At the beginning of the series, there was all this build up and tension between the two characters. There was so much story there that when it ended the way it did, I was a little surprised. It felt like it came from left-field. I understand how it was spun for Ivy’s character development, but I was still a little disappointed. Was this always the direction you had planned for them or did you decide to change gears down the line? I can’t help but wonder since you still throw in teases about how Rachel might really feel for Ivy. Inquiring minds want to know (or at least this one does).

Regardless, I love the series and read through each book the day it comes out. Thank you for one of the few truly addicting series out right now.

    • Thank you, Miranda. I’m so glad you’re enjoying my work. :-) You asked about Ivy and Rachel.

I did not go into the series intending anything at all, but I followed the story when it lead to interesting topics I wanted to explore, and when I had taken them as far as I could, I followed the next interesting story, though a lot of people would say that I dropped an interesting story for no reason. Rachel will always love Ivy, so there will always be those little teases.
I write where I’m pulled. It’s that simple.

    • Martin

The big shifts in Rachel’s & Ivy’s relationship came in “A Fistful of Charms” with the first bite, and “The Outlaw Demon Wails”, with the second bite. But even after these two incidents, there were strong affirmations of the relationship, on both sides. Like Kim says, they will always love each other, even when the nature of that love changes.
      Martin

  40. I’m betting that all the characters are a bit of you. Just a hunch.

  41. Milana

Hi Kim, I am a big fan of Rachel and her team and i loved all the books and was quite depressed when i finished the last one. When will the new book be coming out and will there be a story about that 1 year of Ivy and Rachel’s work together at the IS?
Thank you so much for reply!
    Milana

    • Hi Milana. Thanks! I’m really glad you’re enjoying my work. EVER-AFTER will be out Jan 22. I’ve already written two stories from the year that Ivy and Rachel worked together in the IS. BLOOD WORK is out already, and BLOOD CRIME will be out in October. Both are graphic novels.

  42. Melissa

    Hi Kim,
Not a question, but I wanted to share a funny thing to happen to me the other day. I only recently finished reading the Hollows series for a second time (just as much fun as the 1st time) and something happened at work that was not good. I thought to myself “crap on toast”. Then I smiled and started laughing, catching myself saying this :) So thanks for my new swear :)

Also, I’ve forced myself to move on, to another similar series of stories…. but they’re not nearly as fun :) Thanks for sharing the laughter and good stories with us!

    • Rita Lockwood

Melissa, What’s the other similar? I’m looking for another…. Far as I’m concerned Kim can’t write fast enough!!!!!!!!
Kim: Love your phrasing and plot lines. My fav author (she said, in a not stalkerish way)…… I find myself comparing your writing to other authors and they are all coming up short… :(

    • :-) I love it, Melissa! Thanks!

  43. darkech0

    Hey-O Kim/Dawn,
First off let me say Great job with APB, Loved the coffee shop run with Rachel & Trent. Still, wondering why Trent hasn’t pressed Rachel about Jasmine. Also I’m becoming more & more of a fan of Algaliarept. I honestly can’t blame the Demon, she bailed on him like a crappy roommate of course he’ll be hurt. Of course she does need an income to help him out a bit. I have No Idea what your doing for “Ever After” I don’t know if everything is written in stone, I’m sure the book is completed. However, I came to I guess.. an Epiphany when I was reading a perfect blood. “What ifs” mind you, Say Rachel forms an identical hole in the Ever-After, Then links the 2 using a large wine colored mirror covered with glyphs essentially a Gate to & from the Ever after to reality & back. As the one who devised the gate im sure the Demons would wish for Rachel to guard said gate from, oh I dunno, random Demons going through to reality, Namely Ku Sox.
Also, for her services rendering Tulpas to Demons or payment of travel through the gate, their should be no reason why Vampiric Charms couldn’t branch to the ever after. Their is at least a Novel’s worth of writing with that. As I said I dunno if you have anything similar to my thoughts but please use them as you see fit. Also if you wish to Blank this post I understand. Hence why i’m writing at 2:47 Am hopefully yours will be the first eyes to see this post. I would love to know what you think of the ideas. Also I’m Sorry I missed you on your Florida book signing I hope it went Great =)
Best Wishes to you & Guy.
    FITLD

    • Hi FITLD. Haven’t heard from you in a while! I like your thoughts, but alas, even if I hadn’t already plotted out the last two books, I wouldn’t be able to use your idea. It’s not that they are”yours”, but that I like using my own ideas. They’re easier to remember. -laugh-
I might get back down to Florida this next tour. They moved my release date to january, and hopefully that means more warmer spots.

  44. You have probably been asked this before, but…
Which character in the Hollows series is “you”? I know that Rachel or Ivy won’t be 100% you, but who do you most identify with (or, since you created them, who got the biggest chunk of you)?

  45. Laura

Love the series . . . any new info on The Hollows TV series?
    Thanks!

  46. James R. Fox

Hi Ms Kim-its Jim From Warren-I am currently re-reading Alfred Bester’s The Stars My Destination. Have you read it? Rachel reminds me of Gully Foyle, getting ready to burst out of her niche and end civilization as they know it,muah-ha-ha-ha.Couldn’t resist the evil laugh,it goes so WELL with ending civilization!

  47. gabbyg

I just finished reading The Hollows series, I loved it! Just wondering if you seen any actress or actors who fit the image of your characters? I was watching my favorite show Grimm and the actress Bitsie Tulloch but curlier hair as Rachel. Also for Ivy, I think Maggie Q. She’s crazy badass.

    • Thank you, Gabby. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Ahhh, I’ve not watched Grimm, unfortunately. Good TV makes lousy books. I couldn’t get away with half the stuff they do on TV in my work. My editor would smack me with a wet noodle.

  48. Jess

    Kim,

Do you have any intention of brining all of your novellas (hollows) together into one complete set? I’m having a hard time tracking them all down (I didn’t even know that they existed until recently). I have almost all of your books in hardcover, so I never stumbled upon the ones tucked in the mass paperback editions. Please put them all in one book!

You have an amazing talent! Loosing kisten broke my heart.

    Jess

    • Hi Jess. My guess is probably not. There’s a bunch of them now, and there’s only a few people who would buy them all at once like that. Maybe if they were all signed or something.

I’m so glad you are enjoying the books. Thank you! I still miss Kisten, too.

  49. nicole sharooni

    Hello Kim!
Just wanted to give you a picture i drew of Rache. Have a peek, i hope you like it :)

    Friday, May 11.
    Dear Kim,
We are having a multi-generational argument regarding Ivy’s Friend Skimmer. Did you at any time mention her full name, or is “Skimmer” the only name you ever gave her?
Yes we could read the appropriate book, but asking you is sooooo much more fun, after-all we all are a very large extention of your family.
    Stella, Sherrill, Patrick and Jessica.
Love your works. We dislike having to wait, and wait but once your new book arrives, all the waiting is gratefully forgiven and forgotten.

    • Martin

Skimmer, aka Dorothy Claymor, is named at least twice. In “Every Which Way But Dead” when Rachel meets Skimmer at Ivy’s parents house, and in “White Witch, Black Curse”, when they go to visit Skimmer in jail. There may be other times I don’t recall right now.
      Martin

      • wanda

The funniest was when Kisten called her “Dorothy”

      • wanda

I hig post too soon…the funniest reference to Skimmer’s first name was when Kisten called her “Dorothy” just to annoy her. Can’t recall the book…but it was when Skimmer was no longer being “nice” to Rachel.

    • Hi Patrick. OMGosh, I love hearing stuff like that. Yes, Skimmer’s full name is Dorothy Claymore. :-)

  51. Steve Kennedy

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?…I love that movie. My wife thinks I have lost my mind. But it hit me even funnier when you mentioned it. I knew you were special. I guess my question is, did you like the movie or just the title. Thanks for making me smile.

    • :-) I tried to watch the movie twice now. I just can’t get through it. But it’s so corny that I had to acknowledge it.

      • Steve Kennedy

Depending on my mood, corny is like taking an asprin. Stress relief. But I can see how some people have a hard time with that type of movie.

  52. Martin

    Hi, Ms. Harrison,
Do you know when the cover to “Ever After” will be done? I’m sure we would all love to see it. How are covers chosen for your books? Are you presented with options or choices to preview?
    Martin

    • Martin

Do you get bored answering the same questions over and over?
      M

    • Hi Martin. They are working on it right now, and I can’t wait to see it. My editor and I talked about it, and it sounds fabulous. I usually see a much worked upon option, and we tweak it from there.

And no, I don’t get bored of the same questions being asked over and over.

  53. Jason

I’m just wondering, did you get your inspiration for the genetically modified tomato from the myth of tomatoes being spliced with fish genes?

    • Hi Jason. No, not really. It came mostly from the old belief that they were poisonous, (members of the nightshade family) and the movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

  54. Halyee

We know that Trent and Rachel have history and have even seen a flashback to thier childhood at camp, I thought it was really fun to read and gave insight to the characters. Have you considered writting a novella or anything about their time at camp as kids. I love your books my friend got me hooked and a read them all in about a month I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
    Halyee

    • Hi Halyee. I have, actually, but there isn’t enough discovery to do an entire book on.

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the books. Wow, if only I could write them that fast.

  55. Takeshi

hi my name is stephanie but my freinds call me shadow anyway i really really love your books they are so cool. i was wondering would you like to co write a book with me please please please. my email is s.rose21112@gmail.com please i would really apprieciate it or if not could you atleast read over one of my other manuscripts and give me some pointers please

    • Hi Stephanie. Thanks! I’m so glad you like the Hollows. Unfortunately my work schedule is so intense that I can’t really work with anyone right now. But you should share your work with other writers, definitely. Good luck! It’s hard to share your work, but worth it!

  56. Peggy Martin

When I first started reading your books, my husband noticed that almost all the titles are plays on Clint Eastwood movies (most obvious,1 or 2 very clever) including a direct reference with the grapic novel “Blood Work”. he found this so intriging that he is now a hugh fan as well. But, Why? Very curious! I also love your dedications, most amusing, and a curiousity tickler.

    • Hi Peggy. Thank you! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the books. You asked about the Clint titles. I’ve always liked the characters that Clint Eastwood has played, especially the westerns where the guy comes in off the plain, able to solve the town’s problems with a bully, but not all that eager to, but after some persuasion, he does. Not only does he take care of business, but he does it in a just, not necessarily legal way.

But a more bland aspect is that it was a marketing decision to help make the books more recognizable. If someone comes into the book store, looking for the new book about the witch and the vampire that has a blue cover, they might walk out with Charlaine’ s latest. Not a bad choice, mind you, but if they add that it has a Clint Eastwood like title, they will walk out with mine!

  57. Brian Caswell

Kim. You did it again with Perfect Blood. I absolutely loved it. I must admit part of me wants to see Rachel get off her high horse and admit she loves ivy. I feel so frustrated watching her dance around that so much. I swear she can dance around that all she wants but i still say she is in love with her and she just will not allow herself to admit it. I think she protests a bit to much.

  58. Andrea

    Dear Kim,
I am a huge fan of your Dawn Cook books. I’ve read all of them. :D
So my question, do you consider writing a third book in the princess series?
That would make me damn happy. :D

    Greetings from Austria
    Andrea

    • Hi Andrea. Thank you! I really appreciate that. It does feel like there is at least one more book in the Princess series, doesn’t it. Unfortunately the series is closed, and there won’t be any more. I just don’t have the writing time available to devote to it.

  59. Poima

Hi Kim! Just wondering if you are worried that CW TV will take something away from your series especially being that the story will be modified to fit a more younger audience? I mean shows on their network turn out to be corny and over acted. I just wish a premium channel network would’ve picked it up, they would’ve done it more justice-

    • OMGosh, Poima. CW is going to take the Hollows and make it their own. That’s what happens when you let other creative people play in your universe. I’m hoping that the soul of the characters and the logic of the mythology stays intact, though. If it isn’t smart, the humor falls flat.

  60. Hi Kim. I absolutely adore the series, espeically how you taken characters that started as bad guys and made us fall in love with them, despite their trying, and almost succeeding in killing Rachel.
I was wondering if all the books from the latest Manic Mondayday had been sent out already. I still have yet to receive one.

    • Thank you, Kelly. It’s usually a surprise to me when that happens, but I like it, too. All the books have been sent out, yes, and you should have them if you live in the US. If you’re on the West Coast, you might give it a few more days before you contact Guy to find out what’s up.

  61. Toby

    Kim,
This old pagan man would like to thank you for the book plates. When next you return to Oregon, I will be there to get my book(s) signed, and maybe a photo?????
Like I said before, thank you for your talent. I now have three bookcases. 1 Of your books, as well as Ms. Armstrong’s. The second one has Ms. Rice, and Mr. King with a few others in there as well ( The Raven no more) need I say more? The third is my arts and craft, and gardening books and my wiccan books.
I do read around 3 books a week, And I have very few Authors I love to reread. You happen to be one of them. So, please keep the mojo going for us, your fans. We will always be there for your next road trip you take us on..

With the brightest blessings to you (and that guy in the leather jacket)
    Toby

  62. Hi again, Kim! So I thought about you imagining Trent as 007 and I got the thinking…how about him as a super hero? I (along with millions of others) saw The Avengers this weekend and I’m convinced Chris Evans (Captain America) would make a *fantastic* Trent! http://vampirenovelfan.wordpress.com/2012/05/07/attention-hollows-fans-so-ive-got-some-good-news-and-ive-got-some-great-news-9-2/

He’s normally a brunette, but the blond works REALLY well for him.

  63. Serenity H

    Hi Kim,
First off – thanks for doing something like this. It is a really wonderful thing to answer questions –

My question is – do you get a set fee for writing, or a per book charge? Or per e-book charge really? I had all of your books but due to some water damage had to toss (yes, many tears were shed over many lost books) a lot of my total book collection including yours. I have re- bought a few as e-books but was going to just go to half price books and buy the rest as it starts to add up (I bought five online). However, I think that Authors deserve every penny they can and so I started to feel bad about buying the rest from a used book seller.

On another note – my 7 yo daughter and I greatly enjoyed your book when it was on Sirius book radio. She was sad when it ended last night. I told her we could re-read what I had with me skipping through the “yucky kissing parts” for her.

    Serenity -

    • Hi Serenity. It’s my pleasure! The way a traditional publisher works is that you sign a contract that you will receive a specified percentage of sales. You get an advance check when you sign the contract that is what they expect that you will earn over the course of a year, and once you “earn out” your advance, you start getting extra royalties. Not everyone earns out their advance, and there advance is smaller then for the next book. What you want is for it to go the other way and sell more than they plan, so they will give you a bigger advance next time.
So, the more books you sell, the more you make.
But please, if you find a book used, buy it! That little burning bunny needs a home!
That is so cool you listened to DEAD WITCH WALKING on Sirius! Thank you!

  64. Melissa

How do you come up with your character’s names? Do any of the names have significance for you?

    • Hi Melissa. Most of them do, yes, and I make them up or pull them together from a lot of sources. Ku’Sox Sha Ku-ru is a very rough usage of Left hand of the sun. David is one of my relatives names. Kalamack is totally made up around the sounds. It depends.

  65. SJD :)

I was just wondering if Pierce remembers what it’s like to be properly dead, because I think he was at peace before his gravestone got damaged? I don’t think it’s been mentioned in the books before and it’s something I’ve been curious about. Thank you :)

    • Martin

In the novella “Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel”, when Rachel tries to reanimate her father for some advice, and to prove to Robbie she can do this complicated spell, (this is the first time she did the spell that was repeated in White Witch Black Curse), she got Pierce instead of her father because her father was/is at peace, while Pierce was in purgatory, not at peace,
      Martin

    • Gosh, SJD, I really don’t know. Sorry.

  66. Hey Kim! It looks like it’s a Clint Eastwood day on one of the Cinemax channels. Earlier I saw A Few Dollars more on, and now they’re doing The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. Of course I can’t help but think of my favorite series, The Hollows, when I see this, lol.

    • I’ve been watching the 007 marathon, myself. :-) I like the Pierce Brosnan look. :-) If Trent was a spy . . .

      • That’s a nice visual, haha. He’d be an amazing spy: stealthy, smart, debonair and everything! And he looks great in a suit as we all well know :-) . *sigh* and the daydreaming commences…

  67. Cindy

    Dear Ms. Harrison,

My friend and I are publishing a children’s picture book together. We are doing the illustrations, layout and formatting ourselves, and we would like to keep complete control over the text and illustrations (writers are definitely control freaks), because it is definitely unconventional. Hence, though we are also sending querry letters to publishing houses, we are going to self-publish. We don’t expect to make money off of the book, but do you have any advice as to how to promote the book ourselves? How do you set up book readings and signings with bookstores, libraries and schools?

    • OMGosh, Cindy, you are really asking the wrong person. I don’t have the first clue what to do since my publicist takes care of that end of things, but I would guess that you would contact the store and ask for their event’s coordinator and go from there. Good luck! Being your own everything has a huge sense of satisfaction.

  68. Anne Heim-King

    Dear Kim,
Thank you so much for sharing your remarkable talent with the world. My daughter moved to Sweden a couple of years ago and when she came home to visit here in Eugene I shared your books with her. We are both Rachel fans now. I think we even cried and laughed at the same places in your books. I received your new book “A Perfect Blood” today (a mothers day gift from my daughter) and I wanted to share my gratitude to both her and you for providing some very special and needed time with a group of old friends: Rachel, Ivy and Jenks.
    Anne

  69. Random but do you/have you ever been sking?

  70. Steve Kennedy

Just wanted to let you know that I am in love with your books. I haven’t read a book in 20years. I bought a Nook and had the luck to try Dead Witch Walking. I wish you would come to Provo Utah. I would love to meet you. Would you go for a fat 57 year old guy?..j/k.

  71. Kim,
Your books have kept my “time outs” from three kids and going back to school wonderful. I adore all of your caracters, especially Jenks, and can’t wait to read what he says next.

Couple questions though, Will you ever take time to come to lil’ ole” Texas? I would love to meet you and get a few books sighned. And didnt Jenks go to the Tinker Bell musem and vow to never curse Tink again? :D still love it and who would Jenks be without “tinks titties”?

Thank you for your books and my sanity!

    • Thank you, Mary! I’m so glad to hear that the Hollows have been your mini vacation.
Texas? I missed it this last tour, but I’ve been there before, so maybe next year.
Ahh, he was there, yes, but I don’t remember any vow. :-)

      • Robert

        Not a vow per se…..

“Disneyland…Jenks to come out of the Tink history exhibit. Since then there hadn’t been a single swear word using the “Inderlander pioneer, as he now called her. PD. pg 484 Harper SC

  72. Jer

Hi Kim.. First I have to say you are my #1 author(not just one of my favorites..but my all-time favorite). I love your style and how you have weaved this entire series together, absolutely brilliant! I have been reading a lot of the posts lately about HEA endings and of course I pull for a certain relationship to transpire.. but why would Rachel’s, Jenk’s or Ivy’s HEA have to include anyone, why not just the three of them? They love what they do, love being partners, work well together, respects & love each other and have developed strong friendship with others. It doesn’t seem to me either of the women want children, Jenks has dozens of brats… they have a cat, Biz, a fairy, and a Were living with them… that is a family..sorta:) They can always have relationships/flings.. sorry about the ramblings! Just meant to stop by to tell you how much I loved A PERFECT BLOOD and THE HOLLOWS INSIDER… another Kim-fantastic job. And EVER-AFTER is worth the wait (especially since we are getting 13 books out of you)… and so is the possibility of CW doing the Hollows…AWESOME!

  73. Khali

Hey Kim! I was wondering… If the demons can only procreate with other demons and witches are a ‘stunted’ version of a demon, why can’t a witch have a demon’s offspring without having the ability to hold demon magic (especially since they are different enough in their genetic make-up to where they are unable to breed with humans)? Also, when will there be another Manic Monday sale?
Thanks again for writing the Hollows! They are wonderful!

    • Hi Khali. The issue is in the demon’s DNA. Having a child with a witch is not going to make demon children. Rachel is special, though, because she is a demon without the elf curse stunting her.
I’m not sure when we’ll have another manic Monday. We just got the last one in the post!

And thank you! I’m so glad that you are enjoying the Hollows.

  74. Melissa

Hi! I was wondering. So many people write in with their opinions and you’re so great taking the time to reply! Has the fan opinions on this website, or anywhere else, ever sway your decision to do something in the books? For example, perhaps you had something in mind for a plot, but after fan reaction changed your mind? :)

  75. Lesley

Your answer to the Newt question below intrigues me. Did Ku’Sox trick her into killing her sisters, or did he persuade her? Is that what made her messed up, or was she already unstable to begin with? I love Newt and I hope we see and learn more of her in the last books.

    • He did a little of both, Lesley. She was a bit unbalanced before that, but killing her “sisters” really did her in. She is in the books from here on out, but not a huge presence.

  76. Gaesi (kc)

Dear Kim, hello all the way from New Zealand, I have had the awesome pleasure of reading all the hollows series including the latest installment of “A Perfect Blood”. Are there further plans for more additions to this series in future? When is the next one due? Thank you soo much for making the experience of reading a true joy. All the very best, Gaesi

    • Hi Gaesi. I’m so glad you liked it! Thank you! I’m planning on a total of 13 books. The next one is called EVER-AFTER, and is scheduled for a late January release. :-)

  77. Peter Vernon

    Hi Kim,
I just wanted to say thank you for your writing. I LOVE YOUR BOOKS! I just finished A PERFECT BLOOD… and thank you again. It was great and I love what you are doing with the characters and their interaction, nudge, wink, I don’;t want to produce any spoilers ; )
You have real talent and excel at your craft; hell anyone who can thrill all my other favourite writers (Harris, Briggs, Armstrong, Hamilton) is surely doing it right!
    All the best,
    Peter Vernon

    • Thank you, Peter! I’m so glad that you are enjoying my work! :-) No spoilers. Got it. I don’t like giving them out, anyway. I hope you like what’s coming next.

  78. legend

hiya kim.. i love your books, they never cease to excite me and i must say you have a brilliant writers mind
i was jus wondering where you come up with all your great ideas and if you wer ever planning on coming to new zealand for a book signing sometime?

    • Thank you, Legend! I’m so pleased that you are enjoying the story so much! Where do I get my ideas? That would be from my cabinet of awesomeness, of course! The sad thing is that I have to first put the ideas in there before I can take them out.
      New Zealand? I’d love to!

  79. Hi,Kim well, I have good news and painfull news. The painfull news is my mother,on march 17,had to have a total knee replacement surgery. Five days later, she came home to me doing everything to help her. Now she’s not hurting anymore. The good news is I bought PB and BW at the same time. There is one more thing that I would like to know about the Hollows characters. In HI there’s very littlbout Rachel and Ivy in their youth. What I’m asking is are you going to write a book or two about their youth?

    • That’s good news, Timothy. I hope everything continues to go smoothly for you and your other.

I’m not planning on showing much more about Trent and Rachel’s youth unless it helps end a story thread or two–which it might! You never know.

  80. anita

hi kim, i’m re-reading the series to pass the time and refresh before the next book and i had a thought. when Jenks gets big, rachel totally flirts with him. maybe jenks will get big again and be with rachel? that way he wouldn’t die in another 20 years? plus they are best friends and well friends make the best lovers…plus you can tell jenks cares a lot about rachel. though i am totally all for rachel and trent… but if they FINALLY get together, what would be next, if its soon it would be the end of the series? and since you have 13 boods planned, i can’t imagine it would take that much longer for her to admit she likes trent or trent to make a move. anyways, i was sitting here trying to imagine what is next and seeing how much longer until rachel realizes she likes trent. The suspense is killing me. aaaahhh. i wish they all were out now. lol anyways, just wanted to say hi and thanks for the great books. i love february now just because a new book will come out.
    cheers,
    anita

    • OMGosh, Anita, that’s a lot of spoilers that you’re asking for! I’d love to see Jenks humansized one more time before it’s all over. We’ll see. :-)

    • Melissa

I’ve been thinking about Jenks and Rachel too and hoping to see him big again :) Although I’m all for Trent. But I totally love Pierce :)

  81. hi kim , i just finished perfect blood , unbelievable :) . i just wanted to ask , the suspense around trent and rachel in the last 2 books , is trent going to be rachel’s next man ??? r they falling in love in an un cliché type of way ? i really hope so . they have alot of history together ;)

  82. Sandra

    Hi Kim,

finally had my birthday and “convinced” my boyfriend to give me both the first and the fifth book, yay! Started the latter one but for some strange reason I’m now almost through with book 1 and wondered, how did Al know Rachel’s full name? And hadn’t she thought of Ivy when he was trying to figure out what she was most afraid of – would he have continued on killing her anyway; even if not that dramatic as he had planned?
And I like that Nick kept reminding other humans the pixy’s got a name :-) It’s a nice contrast to what we later learn about him; well although in some way there’s a method to his madness.
Oh, and during the time Rachel learns about Nick’s knowledge concerning demonology – is it still taught or are these times gone by now?

    • Hi Sandra. OMGosh, I’ve not worked on book one for almost ten years. I honestly don’t remember how Al knew Rachel’s name. Probably from Piscary?

Demonology is still taught, yes, but it’s more of a self-defense class.

  83. mary

Thankyou Kim for replying. Two questions; 1. How does Trent know what Rachel’s thinking or feeling? (I know about the ring and the familiar curse) 2. And Bis said that Trent’s aura is the same as Rachel’s…is there a reason why? Can’t wait until your next book is released…I read them over and over. :-) Mary

    • Hi Mary. More questions! 1. He can’t read her mind, no, but he knows her very well and can read her body language. 2. Coincidence? Really, it was coincidence that I used later when it was convenient.

  84. Melissa

    Hi Kim,
I was curious as to how much of the series you have planned out, or whether you see where things take you? I’m currently re reading the entire series, and I’ve been pleased with the linkages between books and now reading them again making some connections.. so they feel pretty thought out and planned to me. Thank you for the books and for taking the time to talk with your readers! I’m enjoying checking up on things here every few days :)

    • Hi Melissa. OMGosh, up until recently, I only plotted the book I was working on, having only a vague idea of what was going to come next. But as I’m closing in on the end, I’m more careful. I have detailed chapter outlines for book 12 and 13 already worked out, but they may change. I’m so glad that you are enjoying the books. Thanks!

  85. Keri

In A Perfect Blood at the end of chapter 18 Trent seemed to read Rachel’s mind. Can he do that any time because he knows more magic now? Was it a one time/limited deal or only when he’s touching her?

  86. Amanda

    Hey Kim,
When Newt says that she killed all her sisters does she mean like 2 or 3? Or is she referring to an entire species worth of female demons numbering in the hundreds/thousands?
I love your books so much! Thank you!!
    Amanda

    • Hi Amanda. I think it was a handful of survivors, demons she knew well and had fought with. It really messed her up.

I’m so glad you are enjoying the books. Thank you!

  87. mary

    Hello Kim,
I love to follow Rachel’s wild rides. I even keep notes so I will not forget the small details. I have a quick question…the scent of cinnamon? Rachel liked cinnamon gum in the first book & likes Trent scent…is there a secret reason why? Or am I reading to much into it?

  88. inna genaro

    Hey kim
WAS JUST WONDERING IF THERE IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER RACHEL MORGAN BOOK COMING OUT SOON?

    • Hi Inna. Yes. Look for EVER-AFTER in Feb/March. There will be a compilation of my work coming out in October called INTO THE WOODS, and the second graphic novel BLOOD CRIME in October as well.

  89. Laura Smith

    Hi Kim,
I just finished reading the Princess series and I discovered that you were the author. Do you have any plans for writing another book in the series? I’d love to read about Jeck and Tess playing the game together and falling in love. I know it’s been quite a few years since you finished Princess at Sea but since they were re-released with awesome new covers, I was wondering if you were considering writing a 3rd one.
    Thanks, Laura

    • Hi Laura. Aren’t those covers fabulous? I love them. Unfortunately, even though I feel there’s at least one more book in there, the series will probably stay as it is. I just don’t have the time to devote to it. sigh

    Hi Kim,
Cant help but ask when the next Madison Avery book might be coming. I’ve totally fallen in love with her story and cannot wait to find out what happens. My friends are equally as curious now that I have them hooked, Just need some closure on the whole story.

    Thanks

    • Thank you Dawn. I’m so glad you enjoyed the Madison story line. Unfortunately the series will stand with the first novella in PROM NIGHTS FROM HELL and the three novels that follow, ending with SOMETHING DEADLY THIS WAY COMES. I said about all I wanted to, and so closed the series down.

  91. Hi Kim:
I am deep into Black Magic Sanction, gradually making my way through all your books (in order!) I’d like to know if there is anything we readers can do to get your books promoted beyond the “paranormal romance” and “horror” classifications? I read very little of the former (I often find them to be shallow and mostly just bad erotica) and only a bit of the latter (used to read a lot of King until I realized I was finding his books boring), and your books/characters/world are so much more. Definitely Urban Fantasy, definitely Alternate World, and so on.
I love what you have created, it’s fascinating, complex, and entertaining. Every so often you through in a marvelous line (I just hit Al’s “and your little gargoyle, too” and practically fell out of my chair laughing) that shows you have a (twisted) sense of humor.
Anyway, I love your world and your characters, and the twisted plots lines and invention.
Looking forward to reading more, and crossing my fingers about the possibly Hollows TV series!
    Amy

    • Thanks, Amy. I really appreciate your words. Part of the appeal to write Urban fantasy is that it can pull on all the genres that you mentioned, which makes it hard when someone who likes romance reads one that is more SF, and someone who likes SF reads one that is almost pure romance, and then both readers throw the book in the corner and don’t read any more. There isn’t much I or anyone can do except rely on word of mouth.
My reading background is traditional fantasy and SF from the 70′s and 80′s, and it shows. :-)
