We’re almost a month from THE UNDEAD POOL’s publication, (Want a signed copy?) and we’re cruising up fast to the end in the read-along. (Still going on at Goodreads) Today marks the end of Black Magic Sanction in the read-along, and the beginning of one of my favorites, Pale Demon. Black Magic Sanction is still on sale today as part of Harper’s “Steals and Deals”  campaign. Pale Demon should be joining it today or tomorrow, so if you’re rounding out your e-library, this is a great way to do it.

But I’m giving away stuff! To enter the contest for the prize pack, all you have to do is drop down to the comment box at the end of the page here and tell me if you think Trent really expected Rachel to run Jonathan down, or did he invite her knowing she wouldn’t, and he’d get a midnight ride alone with her?  (If you’ve not read the book, then tell me what you think of the cover.) Your post is your entry into the random drawing, so please comment only once–on your honor!

Prize pack contains a signed cover flat for Ever After, a hard cover copy of Black Magic Sanction, a copy of Into the Woods, a bunny pin, bus token, and a Alcatraz key which was the freebie that year.

BMSreadalong

Rules and Regs. I will open the page for comments Monday, 9:00 a.m. EST, and close it Tuesday 9:00 a.m. EST. I will then use a random number generator to choose the five winning commenters.

BMSFreebieStuff to know before commenting:

Guy will ship overseas, so international is okay.

Chances of winning are dependent on how many enter.

My decision is final, even if you quibble over it.

I will contact the winners Tuesday morning using the email address they used to comment with, so please check it in the next day or so. If you don’t respond to me by email by Friday, noon, EST, I’m giving the prize pack to the runner up, also chosen by the random number generator.

Few other things since I’ve got your ear.

  1. Kathleen

I think Trent wanted to see what Rachel would do and have alone time with her as well.

  2. Zochi

I think he was just testing her.

  3. Candice Rehorn

I believe it was a test. To see how she would react to the idea of revenge. But he may have had an ulterior motive (who Trent? never!) of seeing her on one of his horses doing something he loves to do.

  4. Katrina Collins

    He wanted three things:
    1) to see how far he could push her
    2) to see how much power she had over him
    3) to spend time with her without appearing vulnerable or open

  5. Aaron Jeffries

    He expected it.

  6. Naida

Perhaps Trent wanted to see where Rachel’s moral boundaries lay. But his primary intent, in my opinion, was to see the wild side of Rachel on the back of a horse, with moonlight streaming through her crazy red hair.;-D

  7. Lori

I think Trent just wanted to ride alone with Rachel.

  8. A.

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it, but wanted to offer it anyway, perhaps for the sake of seeing her horrified reaction.

  9. Melissa Mc

    He wanted the ride.

  10. Terry C.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the series, I’m looking forward to getting back into it.

  11. I think Trent was testing himself. Making sure who he believes and hopes Rachel to be is actually who Rachel is.

  12. I think Trent has always had a thing for Rachel and wanted to ride with her.

  13. Trent knew he could. He seems to always know.

  14. Melissa Peters

I think Trent was just testing her.

  15. Becky Ross

He wanted the midnight horse ride but also to see if maybe she has changed ways in her thinking, a test of sorts.

  16. He just wants to push her buttons. He can’t help it.I think he could care less if she did or not.(run him over)

  17. Ali D.

I think he was genuinely curious to see what she would do.

  18. Sarah Reynolds

He knew she wouldn’t do it. It’s like 2nd grade all over again. He doesn’t know how to tell her what he really wants to say so he pulls her pigtails, throws mud on her dress, makes her do things she doesn’t want to do like try to make her run people over…..

  19. mary ann

i don’t think he ever really thought she would

  20. Frederick Curry

He knew she would not do it.

  21. Like many people here, I don’t think Trent actually thought she’d run Jonathan down, but I’m sure he was prepared to be wrong.

  22. Courtney Durham

I love your books. I believe he invited her to just ride with him.

  23. Amber

I think he did knowing her would get time with her..I think Trent is in love with her…

  24. Crystal Dinwiddie

I think it was a way for Trent to see how far Rachel could be pushed.

  25. John Ham

I think Trent wanted the time with Rachel, but is loathe to admit it to himself.

  26. Amanda D

I never actually know what Trent is thinking – his character has me all over the place. I don’t think he does anything without a multitude of motives.

  27. I think he wanted her to but knew she wouldn’t. He also needed to know just how far she would go when dancing the lines between her very own right and wrong. Where her boundaries stood.

  28. I really didn’t think she was going to chase him down. Despite all that he had done, she was always a good person. However, there’s something to be said for the heat of the moment.

  29. jana p

    Just a test

  30. Sarah Galloway

I’ve never won on these things but I can’t help trying. Love this series!!

  31. Molly Walsh

I think Trent was curious as to what Rachel would do. I think Trent may be the only one who doesn’t assume when it comes to Rachel and her actions

  32. Amanda

I think that Trent knew Rachel would say no and he would get to spend some time alone with her :) Pale Demon is one of my favourites too!!!

  33. Kendra

He had to know that Rachel wouldn’t do it. It had to be a ploy to get her out riding with him.

  34. Kim H.

I don’t think Trent expected her to run down Jonathon, but he secretly hoped she would. For a little while in these books it was hard to figure out if Trent wanted to be more like Rachel, or if Rachel wanted to have a bit more of Trent’s cut throated style.

  35. Jessica Carpenter

I think he was trying to test her humanity. Yeah Jonathan treated her like crap but she didn’t want him to die over it.

  36. Trent knows that would be totally against her nature to deliberately hurt another person, even someone as mean as Jonathan.

  37. Pam Cavagnaro

I have not read this one, but as usual the concerts are freaking awesome!

  38. Susie Jansen Mitchell

He really did not think Jonanthan was going to get run down. Trent just wants Rachael to see him, really see him. Wants to show her his life.

  39. CHRISTINA CALLAHAN

I think it was a test also. I think he was prepared to go either way. Rachel had brought him in before on charges, so Trent knew she had it in her to punish Jonathan for all he had done to her. I think the question is how much did he want that midnight ride?

  40. Chryshta

I think Trent was testing her. He’s always seen Rachel’s inherently good nature, and I think he’s been slightly jealous of it. He wanted to push her limits and see if she would crack; which she didn’t!

  41. Marsha Bailey

I think he was testing her.. See how far she would go, her reactions.

  42. Maria Bebber

I LOVED the cover…I’m hoping since Trent is on it, my wishes for them come true!

  43. Kara Boyce

Trent doesn’t do anything without a reason, maybe he wanted to see how she would react to Jonathon being in that position, maybe he wanted some alone time. i’m going to guess that it wasn’t the alone time. lol

  44. Rachel and Trent has a connection, this only shows a small part of it. Maybe a new beginning for them.

  45. Rebecca Henderson

Knowing she wouldn’t…. But maybe hoping she would run him down

  46. Chris

Biz! I know its not the assignment but I have to say when he first showed I had scary Jar Jar Binks concerns but he was handled much better than a typical novelty add. Thanks for that and all the stories along the way! This is also one of my favorite of the “Rachel is a bad ass” covers.

  47. Maddy

    Hello!

    I’m from Belgium…

I didn’t read the series, sorry, but my best friend is a huge fan of yours and for her, I’m willing to take place to this giveaway :D

The cover is really beautiful :D the drawing is like a real picture so I’m really impress <3

Thanks a lot to make it international :D

  48. Deanna Zinn

He knew she wouldn’t run him down……

  49. Esther

I don’t think Trent expected Rachel to run Jonathan down. I think he wanted a ride along with Rachel but didn’t want to ask her outright.

  50. Judy Armbruster

Yes, I think he did expect her to run him down.

  51. Carey

I don’t think he believed she would run Jonathan down :)

  52. Jessie

I do think Trent expected Rachel to run down Jonathan. For me, this is the opening of there relationship and Trent is still trying to figure out who Rachel is.

  53. C. Crow

I think he just wanted to expose more if his world to her, get her more use to him and his life. :)

  54. Cai Clayton

Rachel has surprised Trent is many ways and at different times. I think he didn’t want her to run him down but he “needed” to see if she would.

  55. Sure, he wanted to test her but he also wanted to spend more time with her without her realizing it..

  56. Amy Banes

I don’t think he ever thought she would actually run Jonathan down, but I think he wanted to give her the chance if she wanted it… and a little moonlit ride with a woman who intrigues him was a win for him as well.

  57. Krystal Tanami

I think given Rachel’s sometimes crazy behavior Trent expected her to run down Jonathan, the ride alone was just a bonus

  58. Wyonna

I forgot to say that I’ve really great expectations of the end of the story ;)

  59. Wyonna

Oh i’m waiting for the latest book of rachel to be translated to german!
    I love these books!

  60. Joan

I don’t think he thought she would do it, but he wanted to see how she would react.

  61. Bianca

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it and he wanted to ride with her. Sneaky bastard. ;)

  62. Stephanie Muniz

I didn’t think Rachel would do it. Trent had other motives…

  63. Better late than never! Then again, it’s still like T-minus 2 hours to go :) And it’s difficult most of the time to know what Trent’s motives are. He didn’t get where he is by walking around with a neon flashing sign telling everyone what his intents were!

  64. Julia

In my opinion Trent was pretty sure that she would°t hunt Jonathan down but he wanted to see her reaction to his offer and just to spend time together, show her a little bit more of his private life.

  65. I don’t presume to understand Trent’s motives. He is an irresistible enigma.

  66. carrie

I think he knew she wouldn’t just wanted to test her as always.

  67. Claudia

I love this cover! Rachel looks super badass. We see a lot more of her on this cover. Her face is still a mystery, which I also like. A little mystery always leaves one guessing. I also love the gargoyle (Bis). He makes the cover extra cool. This is one of my favorite covers from the series.

  68. I think Trent knows more about what motivates Rachel then she even knows herself. I don’t think he seriously thought she would run Jonathan down, but I do think he was curious to see her reaction when put in the situation. By the way, this happens to be my favorite Rachel Morgan book and easily one of my top 10 Favorite books of all time – truly superb!

  69. Damien Evelgest

I think Trent just wanted to get a midnight ride alone with her, but expected Rachel would run Jonathan down anyway. He always seems liked the two for one type.

  70. Nicole

Jonathan was evil to Rachel and I think Trent was testing to see what she would do when given the option to repay him for the evil.

  71. Jessica Smith

I think that Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t as she’s, in the end, too kind, running Jonathan down is something that Trent would do, not Rachel, and he knew that.

  72. Ashley sitzman

I love these books I think I have read them like four times maybe more.

  73. Angel Montgomery

I do believe Trent is always testing Rachel and he will take any chance he gets to spend more time with her and try to figure her out.

  74. Rachel B.

I don’t think Trent really spent a lot of time thinking about the moral implications, He is (IMO) like Wild Magic. Chaotic Neutral. He assumed Rachel would go along with it, because it seemed like a good idea at the time.

  75. Holly

Trent knew she wouldn’t do it, he just wanted to ride with Rachel.

  76. christina pattersonChristina Patterson

I think Trent is still confused and intrigued by what makes Rachael do the things she does and the reasons behind it. I think the ways she rationalizes right and wrong have started to change Trent’s actions and thoughts also. I think Trent thought that there was a 50/50 shot of getting Rachael to do what he wanted. He knows it would depend on the situation when they arrived and what corner she got backed into. I also believe that Rachael interests him which may also get confused into infatuation for Trent because Rahael is something he cant figure out, predict or control.

  77. Russel Brown

I think Trent was testing her to see how ruthless Rachel could be, though I don’t believe he really expected her to ride down Jonathan. Either way it was a win-win for Trent so why not give it a shot?

  78. Did Trent really expect Rachel to ride Jonathan down with him???
i am sure it was a combination of he hoped she would, thus proving she is as “bad” as him. AND knowing (hoping) that she wouldn’t.

  79. I can’t wait to read the newest!!! :-D

  80. I don’t think Rachel would have done that, regardless of what Jonathan did or said. She’s never seemed like that type of character. But, bonus of riding alone with Trent!

  81. Cameron Powell

I think he hoped she would run Jonathan down… I am sure he wanted the ride alone. either way definitely a win or win-win…

  82. Bobbi Mooney

I like the cover, she looks bad-ass. Also, I am wondering if Trent really knew what he wanted her to do.

  83. I love the cover. It’s so mysterious yet it makes me want to pay closer attention. Kinda like Trent.

  84. I think he knew she wouldn’t, but wanted to test her just to make sure of her character.

  85. Jodi

I think he truly thought she would.

  86. Jenni BW

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run him down. He was beginning to know her and liked what he saw.

  87. Jimena Inda

I think it he’s trying to see how far will Rachel go

  88. adara1103

I think this was his way of trying to figure out what makes Rachel tick. She is one of the few people that he can’t predict what they are going to do and I think he really likes that.

  89. Amy K. Delaney

Just as Rachel is learning nothing is black or white, but shades of gray, this answer is the same. I think it was a bit of both.

  90. I think he figured she wouldn’t, but thought it would be interesting to see if he was right.

  91. Of course Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t hunt Jonathan down. He knew better by then. I think that it was just a repetitive test of Rachel.

  92. Ewan Johnstone

Trent wanted the midnight ride with Rachel he never thought she’d run Jonathan down.

  93. Traci Lecheler

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run him down he just wanted to go riding with her.

  94. Kayla Buchanan

I think Trent did is more or less as a test. I think he wanted to see what Rachel was made of- but he secretly knew she wouldn’t stoop to such levels. He would be happy with either end- if she did, he’d have a hunting bunny. If not, he got a midnight horse ride with a hot red head.

  95. He wanted the ride alone with Rachel, to see how they could be together doing something “fun” If they managed to run down Jonathan, what a nice treat!!

  96. Jeffrey Needham

I think everything Trent does is calculated and he knew she wouldn’t run him down. It was clearly a ploy for some alone time.

  97. Kathryn Magner

I think he really wanted to ride w/her again but he knew she would not run down Jonathan!

  98. I love the series and the cover. I have pulled out all my books and am rereading them. I am not quite to Black Magic Sanction and have yet to refresh my memories on the scene. But I’m sure Trent would of love to run down Jonathon with Rachel, though knew she wouldn’t. I think he likes that she has morals and it helps him question his even if he doesn’t always pick the best way to do things. I can’t wait to read the new book .

  99. Brandi F

I think Trent wanted to know if Rachel would run Jonathan down and spending the time with her either way was a bonus.

  100. Vic Greene

I don’t thin that he really cared, he wanted to have her around and if she helped, more the better

  101. lisa

1.20.14~ think at first Trent believed she had the guts to do it, but hoped for a slight chance to spend some time with Rachel no matter what. LOVE YOU KIM!!!!

  102. Brenda R.

I think it was a test.

  103. shirley d mccollum

I think trent did think rachel would run Jonathan down, afterall, she is surprising..

  104. Rocky Reeves

I think Trent was curious about how Rachel would react to his offer, but that wasn’t his reason for asking. I think he had been looking for an excuse to invite her over that would allow them to get together and both to”save face” doing it. Following the elf tradition of the hunt would do that. Trent knew Rachel well enough to know that you never know for sure what she would do. I don’t think he would have looked down on her for either answer. But I do believe the main reason invited her had very little to do with hunting Jonathan, and everything to do with getting to ride with her again.

  105. Gail Siuba

I think Trent thought she just might run Jon down and then he could confirm in his own mind that she was part demon. He can’t seem to reconcile the fact that she tries to do the best she can and reduce any collateral damage that seems to be her shadow. He wants to trust her, he’s just not quite there yet. Sharing the ride was an opportunity to touch on the past & look toward the future…

  106. Just as in real life, things are seldom black and white. I think it was a little of both.

  107. mary snell

Of course Trent knew Rachel would stay with him. Trent is very manipulative but is also very vulnerable. He knows he can trust Rachel. No matter if it kills her she would protect him. Trent has been a savior and a shank in the side for Rachel, since camp days. That’s a lot of history to just walk away from, especially since both of them are, how can you say, practically passionate. Since for the first time EVER Rachel has ever been practical is new turf for both of them since Trent makes his money by being practical. (even if some of it is extreme) Cant wait for the next one! Thanks for your….writing and imagination?! Great reads over and over. I never get tired of Jenks.

  108. He didn’t expect her to do it. Her just wanted the ride.

  109. Christy McDowell

I think he was curious to see what she would do.

  110. He didn’t expected her to run him down. Just wanted a ride

  111. r holley

Trent is always testing Rachel to see what she’ll do or how far she’ll go

  112. Garren

Trent never expected Rachel to run Jonathan down he has always relied on her as an aid to his moral compass though he doesn’t always follow her guidance at most he wanted her there for a night ride as well ss to have an excuse to not be actively involved in running Jonathan down.

  113. Trent wanted the ride and her riding Jonathan down!!

  114. carolyn simons

I love the cover, can’t wait to get caught up on the books.

  115. I think Trent wanted the ride with her and hoped she would ride Jonathan down! A binding experience for them!!

  116. Cat

Most definitely an opportunity for alone time with Rache. Though I don’t think he would have minded in the least had she gone on the hunt.

  117. Daniel

Cant wait to read your new book

  118. Anthony Murray

I do not think Trent thought Rachel would do it, but was curious just to see if he was wrong.

  119. I don’t think he wanted her to run Jonathan over. I do think he wanted to be with her.

  120. Tina C.

I think a little of both!

  121. Nadija

Riding down Jonathan was probably a way of getting her to ride with him

  122. Meghan Gaskins

I think it was a test. He needed to know who she was now, what she was willing to do when pushed. He also needed to keep his cards close to his chest for the time being…

  123. Rene Ledford

love the books and the covers.

  124. Shay Vandevander

Honestly…I think Trent was truly wanting her to run down Johnathan. Just like the rest of their relationship, the moonlit ride was a happy accident. SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK. c:

  125. Gordana

    The latter, definitely!

  126. Delani Neal

Trent, the darling billionaire drug-lord philanthropist, has know Rachel for awhile now, he was at her Make-a-Wish camp and most definitely got his crush on her back then. The thing they shared a love for a back then was horses, he most definitely used running down Johnathan as an excuse to rekindle old feelings, even if he wasn’t ready to admit that to himself yet. I mean yeah he was mad at Johnathan and needed to punish him, but it wouldn’t hurt to do so while making Rachel spend time with him and maybe get her to see him in a different way. A sexy horseback riding-ey way.

  127. Fiona

I’m 2 books behind but working my way there. The gargoyle is the best part of the cover. It’s creepy and dark. My image of Bis is not as dark lol. I love how epic it looks though. I can’t wait to read it!

  128. Nina Kiggans

    Definitely a ruse.

  129. Samantha Kraupner

In elf culture this was the right thing for Trent to offer Rachel. They are just starting to try to understand the cultural differences they will need to either accept or overlook as Trent stops hiding his race and Rachel accepts hers. If it were a test, I would have thought Trent would have made more of an effort to fully explain the outcome. Rachel spent a long time thinking no matter what Trent said, that he killed Jonathan that night and it adds to her fear that he would have killed her had his dogs caught her in the beginning of the series.

  130. Jodi Henni

I think he was curious, and didn’t quite know what she would do. It was a bit of an experiment for him.

  131. He didn’t think she would but secretly hoped she would :)

  132. I think it was just a chance for him to be alone with Rachel.

  133. Kim Barron

I think he wanted to find out if she would. I think he really didn’t know.

  134. bethany titus

Trent wanted to ride through the night with Rachel like they did at camp.
Love the books. Pick them up to read again when I am down.

  135. Amber Hadrava

I think Trent was testing Rachel and seeing what she would actually do when she was put in the situation. He was trying to see if she would stick to her guns or show loyalty.

  136. Amanda M.

I think he was still learning about Rachel’s capabilities, and wanted to spend time with her, so it was win-win. :)

  137. Dawn

I think he knew she wouldn’t, but wanted to offer

  138. Jamie

I believe Trent was just after a midnight ride. He knew Rachel wouldnt hunt Jon down. So excited for the new book.

  139. Misty Duck

I think that Trent knew, loved, and respected her for that. He wanted time so that he could be himself with someone that did not expect anything of him. Plus he got to take a moonlight ride and take down Jonathan for doing something that he did not order.

  140. Theresa

He invite her knowing she wouldn’t, and he’d get a midnight ride alone with he.

  141. Monica Schultz

I think Trent just wanted a moonlit ride with rachael

  142. Eileen M Janke

I haven’t read the book but I hope too soon. However, I really liked the book cover. It’s uniqueness draws you to it.

  143. Aimee Best

I dont think trent expected it…but then again…rachel is unpredictable

  144. Rtpcg

I think it was kind of a test on his part – to see if she would do it when Jenks and Ivy were not around. And, also to see if she really would come on her own. I think he also wanted to invite her in to his world a little bit.

  145. Adrienne K

It was a test. Trent didn’t know for sure which way Rachael would go. Since she didn’t run him over, it was another notch for her being a basically good person.

  146. Lanie Adams

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Johnathon down at all, she isn’t that kinda gal. He most likely just wanted to be around her and see what she would do!

  147. Elizabeth Greene

I think Trent just wanted to go for a midnight ride with her.

  148. Karen at the Robbins Nest

Trent knows Rachel isn’t gonna hunt Jonathan. The woman constantly saves people even those who would kill her. It would be completely out of character if she did hunt Jonathan. But I don’t think Trent intent was romantic. He wanted to talk to her and involve her in his form of justice. I believe Trent wants Rachel to understand him and become an ally. If he’s interested in more, then he’s still in denial. The conversation those two have at the end of Black Magic Sanctioned. Trents ultimatum – get rid of the familiar mark or I’ll kill you, but I’d rather not. Isn’t very moonlight and starlight sweet. Nor is his – let’s be business associates. But it does make me laugh to think Trent’s subconscious might want a romantic moonlit ride with Rachel. Is this some form of Elf courtship cloaked in business? Trent does say, “And a hunt is one way to cement ties.”

  149. I don’t think Trent knew what to expect because Rachel always does the opposite

  150. Meih M

Maybe a ruse to spend some time with her and show her something about his life.

  151. I love all your books, but I still need to read this one. As for the cover, well, I LOVE IT! The almost silhouette of Rachel is awesome, it helps leave something to the imagination & I really love the gargoyle. It is by far the most stunning cover out of all your books ;-) I can’t wait to read it & I really hope I win ;-)

  152. Pingback: Giveaway Notice: Kim Harrison | Apathy and Rhetoric

  153. I don’t think he was sure what her feelings would be about it, but it was a win win situation.

  154. Stephanie H.

I think Trent knew she would be unwilling to chase Jon down.

  155. Melaine B

He wanted to be alone with her :)

  156. I really do think that Trent just wanted a midnight ride with Rachel. I do not think that he would Jonathan on purpose.

  157. Rob

I think it was all about the ride along.

  158. Stephanie Martch

I think he knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down but was testing her. Overall I think he was really wanting to just ride alone with her.

  159. Susie

Well since he never intended to truly harm Jonathan, I believe it was just an excuse. Thanks for the giveaway!

  160. renee pierce

I love all of these books!!

  161. Kristine Shore

I think he just wanted the Midnight Ride with Rachel. I think even though neither has real memories of “camp”, they are institutionally drawn together in situations like that.

  162. Trent is testing Rachel every chance he gets, but I think it was also an excuse to spend time with her.

  163. Dawn W.

Ha! He rarely does things for a single reason. He, of course wanted a midnight ride with her, but he also wanted to see if she would actually run him down. He had to suspect she wouldn’t, but needed to be sure :)

  164. Jen

He had to know that Rachel wouldn’t do it. He’s such a smart little cookie maker getting her alone like that. :)

  165. Trent expected Rachel to run Jonathan down because Trent forgot that Rachel’s morals aren’t quite as focused on expedient solutions as his sometimes are.

  166. Gina N.

I think he knew, they may be on constant unsure ground with each other but I think he knew her well enough to guess that.

  167. I think he wanted the ride but also believed that she would run Jonathan down to punish him. He didn’t count on her moral compass (slightly skewed but still working) to stop her.

  168. Amber Robinson

Don’t think so. Chances are he was curious, though not expecting it. I thought it was a bit sweet of him to stay with her instead of riding off.

  169. Cathy S

Rachel is such a wild card that Trent likes to put her into situations just to see the outcome, because it isn’t always what you expect.

  170. Erin

I think he wanted to know where her limit was. Knowing how fiercely she despised Jonathan, he may have thought she really would do it. But I think it was more of a test for himself than of her, because I suspect he’s afraid to believe that Rachel is as good as he both hopes and fears she is.

  171. Jennifer Corson

I love the cover and blue is my fav color. Please please pick me pick me I would love the prize pack. I love reading about Rachel’s world.

  172. Tommi Mcd.

I think he ment more to spend time with Rachel, but Jonathan is a jerk

  173. Mic R.

Trent knows how Rachel feels about Jonathan. When she was in the cage she did fight back against him. Yet, Trent knows that Rachel is against hurting others if at all possible and knows how it feels to be run down by the dogs, so he’s probably unsure what Rachel will choose. Either option allows them to spend time together, one choice more private than the other.

What did they discuss during their ride?

  174. Rochelle H

It was a test but also an excuse to spend time with her ;)

  175. Kate Raney

Like others have said, I think it was a test. Finding out what Rachel will do and what what she won’t do is the best way to determine how he can get past her defenses.

  176. Toni Matcek

I think Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t do that to Jonathan because of what happened to her all those years ago. He just wanted to be around her.

  177. Charissa E

Trent is continually testing Rachel’s reactions to see what she’ll do when he asks her to do things that go against her principles.

  178. I think he wanted to test her and see how she reacted to the situation. He also enjoys testing her and having her in his company.

  179. Stephanie A

I think Trent had many purposes to his Hunt, but I don’t think he ever intended to kill Jonathan, or have Rachel take any part in it, either. I think he could see Rachel change towards him, and wanted to cement the relationship they were forging. He may have wanted to get Rachel alone, but I don’t think there was romance in mind so much as gaining her respect and uniting them with a common purpose.

  180. Jennifer Rich

He knew she wouldn’t do it. He was in it for the midnight ride.

  181. I think he was testing Rachel to see just how far she’d go, knowing that she truly wouldn’t do what Trent had almost done to her. The fact they had some “alone” time was an added bonus for him.

  182. Kasey Simmons

It was a bit of a test but also an excuse to spend time with her.

  183. Teal Crain

The thing with Rachel is she never does the expected. Trent knows this and has come to terms with it. I think he wanted her too in some ways but ultimately was happy in the end.

  184. karafarrah

I think Trent was either hoping that Rachel would ride him down, but if she declined, he hoped that she would be impressed by his power. Makes you wonder what Trent would have thought if she’d ACCEPTED and ran Jonathan into the ground…

  185. sarah

I think Trent was testing rachel

  186. You ask the most interesting questions to make us think a bit. I like that. I think it was some of both. Kind of a test to see if Rachel really was as against killing as she claimed, even against someone who has repeatedly been mean to her and tried to kill her. But, being who he is, Trent would take advantage of whatever choice she made. After all, everyone else was already out on the field and not waiting for them, so a ride alone with her was also on Trent’s mind.

  187. Kathleen

I think he thought she might, and that she should, but knew she probably wouldn’t. But he wanted to give her the chance to just in case.

  188. Rachael knew
    whats she was doing!

  189. Barbara Henderson

I believe that he knew that she wouldn’t run Jonathan down he wanted to spend time with her and the ride back with her alone is what he wanted.

  190. Dee

I would have said that he knew Rachel wouldn’t run him down and just wanted to ride with her, but maybe he wanted her to see Jonathan changed into a hound so she would maybe respect him more for not killing Jonathan.

  191. Lauren weber

I think he was testing her to see what she was capable of. The ride along was an added treat!

  192. I think he wasn’t quite sure what she would do, but wanted to see. And of course he hoped to spend time with her.

  193. Trisha

I really really need this one… Black Magic Sanction is the only one I do not have. Good Luck to everybody!

  194. Mark

got to love elf justice lol

  195. Darleen ferguson

I think he knew she wouldn’t run him down. She’s not like that. He got bonus alone time with her though so it was def a win win.

  196. Don’t think Trent thought she would run him down.

  197. Rhiannon Sanchez

I love the thought of Rachel and Trent having a happily ever after in which they are together. It gives me the warm fuzzies! Of course, I always did want her to spend at least one night with Al :)

    • Rhiannon Sanchez

Also, I think Trent wanted Rachel near him as always and was trying to gauge her and see how far she’s truly willing to go. As much as they have an intimate connection I think he will always be trying to figure her out, and that he is more in need of her love and acceptance than he is aware, and he will always need her more than she needs him.

  198. DeeCee

I think Trent just likes to push Rachel’s buttons. :)

  199. A.N.

He invite her knowing she wouldn’t, and he’d get a midnight ride alone with her.

  200. He knew she wouldn’t run him down. But e wanted to see if she would take the risk of ridig with elves and be able to see what it’s like to be them. Also I think he was starting to see her as something other then just a could be employee and maybe a friend or more. Loved it.

  201. Cindi Gillespie

I don’t think he expected her to run Jonathan down but it would be a good test to make sure he has her figured out correctly,

  202. Melissa Jones

I think he was testing her

  203. Stephanie

I think he wanted to know if she would. He also wanted to show her part of his world and see her reaction.

  204. Dana

Tret knew Rachel would not ride Jonathan down.. and he wanted to ride home alone with her. A Win-Win for Trent!

  205. Carol H

I’m sorry to hear people are quibbling about your giveaways when you’re being so generous, Kim.

  206. I think Trent wanted to see how far Rachel would go. It was a test. He would know her measure no matter which choice she made. He was fine either way, I think. What a sexy Elf Trent is.

  207. robyn jones

I don’t think Trent really expected her to run down Jonathan, he was just testing her.

  208. Matthew tuite

He knew she wouldn’t kill jonathon, but was hoping she would be ruthless enough.

  209. Stephanie

I haven’t read the series yet but, the covers are hot and I just added them to my TBR list!

  210. Caitlin Tripler

I think it was a challenge to Rachel to see what she would do. Either way he still got to spend time with her.

  211. Rachael Hall

I think Trent knew better than to believe Rachel would run Johnathan down. She always shows mercy, even with her greatest enemies, and that’s something Trent respects about her. I think it’s telling that in the first book, Rachel hated Trent for killing that lab professor, but that by book 8 she is willing to stand by Trent through the hunt, though she believes it to be Johnathan’s death. I think Trent invited her for just that purpose, to see where he stood with her.

  212. he knew Rachel wouldn’t run him down, Trent just wanted to ride with her

  213. I think he didn’t really expect her to do it, but he wanted to see just how far she would go before balking.

  214. Dawn Faircloth

I think he wanted to ride with her. However, I don’t think he was sure if she would or wouldn’t run Jonathan down, and was interested to find out for sure.

  215. Trent has known Rachel since she was a child – he knows her heart and he knew she wouldn’t run Jonathon down. Like everyone else, I hope they get together in the Undead Pool. Thanks for the short story on Wattpad – can’t wait for the next installment.

  216. Sara Brown

I don’t think he really thought she would run him down. As others have said, it was a test. And I nice bonus of a midnight ride with her. Loved that scene BTW. :)

  217. shana zimmerschied

Trent is envious of who Rachel is. She has freedom where he has responsibility. She has trust and friendship when he is alone. He hungers for her presence because she is more like who he wamts to be than he is. He knew what would happen but he needed the evidence.

  218. Ah, another new author for me! And now to add to the tbr pile … I love the covers. Also wishing I had the sleek body of the cover model. *sigh*

  219. Gigi Grover

I think the cookie maker wanted a ride alone with Rachel but if he could run Jonathan down and get more time with Rachel and possible making it so he can get in her good graces once again and maybe, just maybe be able to fix the mistakes he has made i think he really loves Rachel but isnt sure how to show it with out backstabbing her.

  220. laylaravenscroft

I think Trent knows Rachel a bit more than she would like him to at this point. He sees her “humanity” but also her ruthlessness. In any situation it was a win for him (as usual).

  221. Bixi

If Trent really thought about it, then he knew that there was no way rachel would run Johnathan down. But I also think he was testing her, wanting to know whether or not she really was the person he thought she was. And maybe he thought something like if rachel really wouldnt run John down, then there was a midnight ride in it for them, which would be all the better ;)

  222. Tessa Martin-Bashore

He was showing Rachel how cookie makers deal with those that cross them, even those that are closest to them. I think he was including Rachel in that part of his life as a chance for her to get some revenge (knowing full well she wouldn’t partake) but allowing her retribution through knowing (thinking) what punishment was playing out.

  223. Aylah O'Connell

I actually think it was a test, and he wasn’t really sure what she would do but he would be entertained either way!

  224. Elizabeth

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t. He always has a plan and a back up plan, especially when it comes to Rachel.

  225. I think he wanted her to get a feel for the hunt. He knew she wouldn’t kill Jonathan, he just wanted her to understand the other side of the hunt.

  226. Michelle Chambers

I think any excuse to be alone with Rachel is what Trent really wants. Anything else that happens in his favor is just icing on the cake.

  227. Jo Sinclair

He knew she wouldn’t do it. I think he wanted time alone with her and he wanted to see her reaction to the offer.

  228. Mike Howard

Can’t wait for the next book, just started to reread the whole series, since I had to replace my copy of the first two books, since they wandered off into someone elses life.

  229. Danielle Clark

Trent would never have just one reason for any action. He has contingency plans for his contingency plan. Rachel does what needs done, whether she wants that to be or not, its part of her honor.

  230. I have not read the book, but after reading how passionate some of the comments are…I think I am going to have to. :) I always enjoy a good series.

  231. Valerie

There is no way Trent thought Rachel would really run him over. I wish she would but, no he wanted the ride alone with her.

  232. Trent knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down.

  233. Trent knows Rachel well enough to know that she wouldn’t run Jonathan down.

  234. Trish Bodine

I think Trent knew that Rachel couldn’t/wouldn’t run Jonathan down, but he was testing her.

  235. just a test! only a test! ;)

    Love this series! <3

  236. naturallydotty

My heart wants to believe that Trent needed some time alone with Rachel.

  237. Becky Campbell

Definitely wanted some time alone with Rachel.

  238. IT was a test, only a test…… But Trent does that to everyone, Jonathan gets to be scared, Rachel gets her will power tested (again) and he gets a ride.

  239. terann

I think Trent wanted to do if she would or wouldn’t. He was fine either way with her decision.

  240. Brandon Bradley

I think Trent didn’t know what Rachael would do and wanted to find out.

  241. Brittany Bishop

I don’t think Trent thought she would really do that. I think he was taking advantage of trying to get alone time with her

  242. Heather B.

Is this where we enter the contest????

  243. Lisa Moody

I believe It was a test for Rachel. Trent felt confident in what she would do and he wanted her to realize what she would and wouldn’t do. Excited for the new book!

  244. No, I think Rachel surprises Trent at every turn, and that is what fuels their attraction and their animosity of competition.

  245. Susan Powers

I think Trent did expect Rachel to run Jonathan down because Trent just couldn’t conceive a person not wanting to run down someone who had wronged them so badly. Trent is intrigued by Rachel because she is so different than what he knows.

  246. Shane

I think he invited her knowing she wouldn’t do it. He knows her too well to have thought otherwise.

  247. Trent knew deep down that Rachel wouldn’t run down Johnathan. He knows that despite all that she’s been thru in her life, she isn’t going to hurt someone out of spite, even if they deserve it. At least Trent had some time to spend with Rachel alone.

  248. Vicki Arce-Guillen

Trent was trying to offer Rachel an olive branch, but he really wanted to spend time with her

  249. Jess

Trent totally knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He clearly is in love with her and wants tone alone with her

  250. Aralyn

I think he wanted to see if truly Rachel had it in her to run him down. That kind of lethal edge could come in handy if he could use it to his advantage.

  251. Brandie B

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t run him down but he seems to really enjoy testing her boundaries and pushing her buttons just to see what she does. And then, of course, there’s the obvious attraction between them which is really enjoyable to read as it develops :)

  252. Amy Hudson

Trent wanted to see Rachel on a horse again. I think he was curious about if she would run Jonathan down or not.

  253. He really didn’t know (which he likes about her)…. He was hoping for a ride, and if she ran over Jonathan…I agree with a previous poster….it would be a bonus.

  254. I think it was a test and I think she passed when she refused

  255. Allison Burk

I think he thought she would ride him down…I don’t think he really started to understand her until after, like during The Perfect Blood. Although he might have assumed she would have been reluctant to do so, but she’d agree in the end.

  256. Never2old4Glitter

I think he wanted to ride with Rachel but it was also a bit of a test…would she do it? ;)

  257. Billi Williams

I think he wanted to see what she would do.

  258. Jen M

i think that he suggested that she could in hopes of seeing if she cracked enough to work for him without her morals in the way. But he got something out of it when she said no, he got to spend un-interrupted time with her, you know without the bad guys and arguments between them..

  259. Cathy

Trent has always talked about Rachel’s values and I think he knows she wouldn’t kill a person in that way even if they did try to kill her. Trent wanted to change his relationship with her and make her a business associate. So that’s the reason for the ride.

  260. Stephanie Azmoudeh

I think Trent just wanted to ride with her.

  261. Christian

I don’t think Trent ever really knows what to expect with Rachel, but loves testing her boundaries.

  262. sue fikes

Trent knows but doesn’t really know Rachel. I think he has a curiosity about her. The Rachel Trent combination is interesting kinda wanna see where it can go.

  263. I don’t think he really expected her to, but it was a good excuse to get her around without throwing money at her ;)

  264. elizabeth

Trent knows Rachel well enough to know she wouldn’t run Jonathan down but offered her the choice anyway.

  265. Tina

Trent seems pretty good at reading people, I think he knew she wouldn’t do it. It seemed more of an attempt to bond and open Rachel’s eyes to some things…

  266. Erin Kane

Trent likes to push Rachel into situations that she doesn’t want to be in. Of course, he also wants to be with her and he saw it as an offer as revenge, not realizing that Rachel just isn’t built like that.

  267. My husband adores the audiobooks. He is blind and always asks me what the cover of your books look like and a new book comes out. He states that your book covers stick really close to the outline of the book. He enjoys that because many times an author will have a cover of their book that doesn’t seem to remotely represent the story and characters of the book. Way to go and your books are wonderful! Please keep up the good work.. :)

  268. Liz

I think he was just testing her but I don’t think he really believed Rachel would run down Jonathan

  269. Jammie Campbell

I think he was pretty sure she wouldn’t do it- but wanted to see if she would, and either way was an option to him. It would tell him a lot about her depending on which she chose to do. Trent is a smart, practical man. Plus he clearly likes her, so he wins either way, lol.

  270. Trent’s pretty diabolical, and seems to think ahead, so I think he knew she wouldn’t run him down.

  271. Laura D

I don’t think he knew what to expect from her. I think that’s why he likes her so much.

  272. I think Trent likes to prove to Rachel how flexible her morals can be depending on the situation. She’s fairly judgmental of him, so I think sometimes he likes to point out that she isn’t any better. I’m not sure if he wanted her to hunt down Jonathan, or just wanted her to admit that she really wants to do it, on some level.

  273. I think that Trent has an inexplicable connection with Rachel and thinks that he is offering her a “revenge offer” – in his mind he thinks she’ll appreciate. But I think he has respect for her, in his own way, when she refuses.

  274. Vickie

Trent knew Rachel would never hunt Jonathan down no matter how much she despised him. It isn’t the kind of person she is. He wanted to ride with her.

  275. Shani Marie

Trent was totally testing her :P

  276. I think that Trent invited her knowing that she would refuse–whether it be out of not wanting to go with him specifically, or sheer contrariness, or because she is one of the noble and good ones.

  277. Tera Ashmore

    Midnight ride!

  278. Maryjean

No he knows Rachel isn’t that ruthless. She is always the one to be less violent then him if there is a way. I think thiis was his way of offering peace from the accident at camp when they were young and letting rachel get a little revenge on Jonathan.

  279. Bruce Hertsch

I think that Trent realized Rachel would not run Jonathan down. I believe he wanted to get Rachel involved with him somehow and saw this as a way to eventually make it happen.

  280. Kharen Dreyfus

I think he really wanted Rachel to run down Jonathan, but also wanted to see how far he could push Rachel.

  281. Ally M

I think by this point, Trent never has any idea what Rachel will do. I think he puts her in situations because she can surprise him when no one else can. Granted, I think he still tries to set up the situations so that he wins regardless of what she chooses.

  282. kimberly davis

I think Treat fully expected her to

  283. Susan Meek

    Oh, yeah, he expected it.

  284. Kelly M

I think Trent believed he was testing her, but deep down he just wanted to ride with her.

  285. Joseph Fiorini

trent just wanted to be alone with her. I think he has been thinking about her ever sjnce camp.

  286. Katie G

I love pretty much all of the covers and I love the gargoyle on this one!!! I’m reading the series but am not to this one yet.

  287. Ruth Rossman

I think Trent really wanted to test Rachel. He seems to enjoy watching her reactions, and learning a bit about her at the same time. Its seems to me like his version of the elementary kids chasing each other around on the playground if they like someone. Or if they hate someone. Considering this is Trent we are talking about, being the businessman he is, he ensured that he stood to benift from either choice she made.

  288. Kerri Satterfieldo

I think he did expect her to

  289. He knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He wanted a midnight run with her, I think to connect with her in a different way.

  290. sari

I definitely think that he knew Rachel, would do it and he’d get some time alone with her. I also think that he was still trying to get a better idea if who she was and her limits. He might have suggested it as a test.

  291. Trent wanted to spend time with Rachel. He knew she wouldn’t but it would get a reaction from her.

  292. Both! He wanted the ride with her and he ken she wouldn’t go after Jonathan.

  293. Trent recalls way more of their childhood together than Rachel does. He threw the “rundown” out as a test to see what kind of person Rachel is as an adult and also to see how well Rachel accepts herself.

No matter what Rachel would have done it would not have shocked Trent – he knew both the options of the outcome for the offer he extended to Rachel.

  294. Kim Vankirk

I think that Trent likes to see if Rachel will do things like that, he likes revenge. I believe that he is trying to better himself by seeing how Rachel reacts. I really hope he enjoys her company, they are good together.

  295. Andrea Cole

Love the covers. they always make me want to jump into the book as soon as possible. As for Trent and Rachel. i think Trent was wanting a ride along, with the bonus of maybe running Jonathan down.

  296. Patti O

I think he knew it all along, but was hoping she would get caught up in the moment. A little ammunition to be used at a later date.

  297. Kerry Ly

I think he invite her knowing she wouldn’t and he’d get a midnight ride alone with her.

  298. I got the feeling he was testing her…between the two of them there is / was a lot of wariness. They are both really complex people so they keep putting each other in different situations to see what they will do. I don’t think he really knew what she would do but he was prepared for many different out comes. I think they have both been disappointed in life many times but people and just the roll of the dice so they’re jaded, at least Trent is. He keeps thinking that Rachel is going to disappoint him so he keeps throwing her into different situations to test her metal, try to figure out what makes her tic and if she is a strong person.

  299. RuthAnn

I think he just wanted to ride with her, he knows what kind of person she is.

  300. Trent is pretty conniving and very good at not just reading people, but knowing them. I’m fairly certain he knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down, but yet he figured he’d allow her the opportunity for revenge…and end up with a midnight ride with Rachel. Why else would he have already sent everyone else ahead?

  301. karlee

Of course Trent invited her knowing she wouldn’t, and he’d get a midnight ride alone with her. He loves her :)

  302. Dian Sierra

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t do it. It isn’t in her nature. Though she would have liked revenge she wouldn’t have run Jonathan down.

  303. April Pearce

I don’t think he at all thought she would do it.

  304. I was hopping hed talk her into it but i knew she wouldn’t she just isnt the type of person for that type of revenge,….maybe if he offered her some time alone to whoop up on him,she would, but not kill .

  305. Sammantha Saffell-Anderson

Trent is a smart man he knew how Rachel would feel about running Johnathan down. He wanted time with her but needed an excuse to see her. Trent has always had feelings for her but in his way it was his only way to open up to her.

  306. Already pre-ordered the ebook. Cant wait for it to arrive.

  307. Angela

Probably a little bit of both.

  308. Linda Levine

I love the cover and can’t wait to read it. I love all the books.

  309. Amy Ryan

I love the covers for the books very eye catching I can’t wait to start them I’m waiting until the last Cat and Bones book is out before reading them so when I get addicted (which I will! Lol) I have all the time I want to read one after the other :D thanks for the giveaway!

    amieesnow@gmail(dot)com

  310. Jenn Reynolds

I think it was a bit of both. He offered revenge since Jonathan did so many torturous things to Rachel, including trying to kill her, knowing that Rachel more than likely wouldn’t/couldn’t follow through with it. This then allowed him to show her that we would be willing to forgo personal revenge (a thing Trent would normally not do) to spend time with Rachel. This showed her that he was willing to change somewhat for her – that he was more than just the monster she always thought he was.

  311. Janina

I guess Trent wanted to give Rachel the chance to get revenge on Jonathan, if she really would have wanted to, but he knows how much she hates this ruthless side of him and that she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. So I think he really only wanted some alone-time with her :)

  312. Bev W

I think he wanted her to run him down.

  313. I think it was just to get Rachel alone for awhile, Jonathan was just a bonus.

  314. Susan Carro

I think he was pretty sure that she wouldn’t – but I think that Trent is always testing everyone. Absolute trust is not really part of his nature.

  315. Trent definitely wanted a private ride w/ Rachel. But getting rid of Jonathan…. Not a bad deal all around.

  316. Janet H

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it.

  317. Mary Harmon

Trent knew that Rachel would not let herself run Jonathan down. It was another way for him to bring himself closer to her though. The midnight ride alone with her was an unexpected bonus (for both of them). I love the scenes between the two of them throughout the series.

  318. I think he did it knowing that Rachel wouldnt do it. I also preordered on audible today. I will buy the book at Scheulers when I see you in March!

  319. uta

I think Trent was testing Rachel since he wasn’t sure if she would run down Jonathan.

  320. It was a win/win for him. Get Rachel to do something she normally wouldn’t out of anger/revenge and cloud her morals or show her you are a nice guy with her best interests at heart. Trent never does anything that doesn’t benefit him somehow… but I still like him!

  321. Did Jonathan deserve to be hunted like an animal? Heck yes. We all know by now that Rachel’s empathy and compassion for all living things is both her greatest strength and her fatal flaw. Trent knew very well that she would refuse to hunt Jonathan down, especially when she knew what it felt like to be hunted in the very same way. There goes that empathy thing again! I’m positive that Trent wanted some Rachel time and lured her there for a midnight ride only. He knew she would never come if he told her what they were really going to be doing. :)

  322. Marissa Gregorwich

I think he wanted to test Rachel, to see if she had left her black/white view of the world and started to see the grey.

  323. katherine tildes

I don’t think he thought Rachel would actually do it, but thats what he gets for underestimating her yet again!

  324. Amanda Quinn

I don’t think Trent really thought Rachel would have run Jonathan down, but he probably would have let her if she really wanted to.

  325. I think he knows Rachel well enough not to put anything past her.

  326. Liz

I think he wanted her to run him down, he’s so ruthless!

  327. Kerry M

Love all the covers of this series. I think Trent always wants time alone with Rachel, a secret wish of course.

  328. Manda

I think he was testing Rachel, and didn’t mind that he got ride alone with her.

  329. kara

This series is amazing…the characters are so diverse and it keeps me wanting more!

  330. Erica Lettice

I think Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down but I think he likes to make him sweat a little. I think Trent agrees that Jonathan can get a little over the top and he likes using Rachel to take him down a few notches.

  331. Camilla Erlandsson

I think Trent knew that Rachel would ride with him, but that she didn’t want to really hunt Jon down ( in a “bad” way)… It isn’t in line with Rachels morals, who she is at heart.

  332. Kristi

Yes I think he did. Jonathan tortured her as a mink. Honestly at this point I think Trent was offering whatever he could to get her company.

  333. I think he knows her enough by now to be sure she wouldn’t run Jonathan and it was also one of the only way he could spend time with her without pretense or witness

  334. I think at that point he wasn’t sure, but I really think the thought that she wouldn’t never crossed his mind because doing that very thing is so engrained in him.

  335. Sarah

I believe Trent knew because they are a like in some ways.

  336. Donna Begley

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He wanted to be alone with her. :-)

  337. I don’t think Trent ever does anything where he hasn’t thought through the possible outcomes before hand.

  338. Ellen Casey

I think he knew she wouldn’t catch him and just wanted to go for a ride! Thanks for having the giveaway!

  339. alanporch

Trent knew he’d get a ride alone with Rachel. He knew she would not ride Jonathan down.

  340. Theresa Schultz

Trent probably didn’t think that Rachel would run Jonathan down but he needed her to see that he wasn’t going to let Jonathan get away with trying to kill her.

  341. Laurie Decker

He always knows what he’s doing. I midnight ride was what he wanted but couldn’t ask for it!

  342. Katie M

I think he knew Rachel wouldn’t do it!! :)

  343. Mark Mann

I think trent knew she wouldn’t, but Trent is always up for a challenge, plus the ride with her would be a bonus

  344. Dora Wilson

I think he really wanted the ride with Rachel at least I am hoping he did. Though I wish Rachel had run him down he deserved it!!

  345. Trent was testing her, but of course that doesn’t mean that he didn’t want a midnight ride with her. Either way he wins.

  346. trish ely

I think he asked because he knew she wouldn’t, one of the things he likes about her I think is her moral code even if it isn’t as shiny as it once was

  347. Melicent Stossel

I love the cover, but I like the image on the inside of the paperback cover even more! If there was a poster or print of that, I would buy it in a heartbeat!

  348. Carl Fox

I agree that Trent did not expect Rachel to actually run Jonathan down. But that the midnight ride with her would be a bonus.

  349. Shawn

Trent knew she wouldn’t kill Jonathon. He knew exactly what he was doing.

  350. Sue Mac

This is first book I had signed by you!

  351. Mary Villanueva

Trent knew Rachel would never do something like that. He just wanted some time alone with her.

  352. I’ve always loved the covers for your books!!

  353. Janice

I love the cover!!! (Still working my way through the series) :) Thank you for bringing the Hollows to life.

  354. Pamela Wagner

Definitely the midnight ride, if she ran Jonathan down it’d be extra credit. LOL

  355. Erica J Andersen

I think he wanted the ride alone with Rachel and running down Jonathan was a sort of gift to her. She wanted to enjoy it and deep down, I think a part of her did.

  356. I love these covers. Can’t wait to read the whole series!

  357. Melodie

He was testing her to see what she was made of….. and of course the time alone didn’t hurt… :-)

  358. Clair johnson

Trent invited her so he’d get a midnight ridealong.

  359. I think Trent knew Rachel would never do something like that and he just wanted some time alone with her.

  360. Rebecca

    It was a test.

  361. Rebecca Bourque

    Romantic ride.

  362. kelly

Definitely some alone time :) though I wouldn’t be surprised if he had considered it a possibility…

  363. Cameo Berry

I really like the cover of this book. I’ve been with the book series since the start, and have thoroughly enjoyed the growth through the years with the covers. This cover, however, looks dark and mysterious but with her hands in her pockets it makes it look casual. It looks magnificent with the moon behind her and the gargoyles beside her. I’ve created a few book covers myself but nothing to this extent or beauty.

  364. Amy D

I love that you brought a Gargoyle into the story I love him.

  365. Brittany Taylor

I think Trent believed that Rachel wouldn’t allow herself to run Jonathan down and went for the midnight ride angle, instead. ^~^

  366. Kathryn Henry

I think that it would an excuse that Trent had in mind for one, to relive an experience that they had as kids while at camp. The second motive would be to entertain the idea for Rachel to have her revenge for Johnathan’s horrid actions and for tormenting her when she was a mink. However Rachel isn’t one to shed blood to see someone get their rightfully deserved come-up-ance.

    • I also believe that Trent was giving Rachel a chance to get revenge on Jonathan for the way he tortured her when she was a mink. Due to the way Trent prevented her from killing Ku Sox –saying that it would change what he loved about who she is. ALSO, he planned ahead to change Jonathan into a dog to add to his kennel for awhile as a way to teach Jonathan a lesson (payback) for what he did to Rachel as well. He couldn’t kill Jonathan because he cared about him/part of his family.

  367. I think Trent was testing the waters and trying to get a better read on Rachel…to see it she was holding a grudge and wanting revenge. That says a lot about someone’s character.

  368. Christine

Trent was pretty sure Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down, a ride alone? Bonus.

  369. Christopher

I think Trent knew it went against Rachel’s nature at the time and at this point is feeling her out and still wanting her to work for him. I think he is intrigued with her and her freedom greater than when he first met her, But the short answer is no I don’t think he expected her to run down Johnathan.

  370. Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. It was a test of her humanity. I think Trent needs Rachel to keep him grounded from his blood-thirsty ways. He can do things without regret or a backwards thought. Rachel is Trent’s compass or conscience and he needed proof of this.

  371. Amy Finley

I think it was just an excuse for Trent to get a midnight ride alone with Rachel; but what can I say I’m a hopeless romantic. :)

  372. Katey Jenks

I think Trent was wanting some time alone with Rachel to pick her brain.

  373. I think Trent knew she’d not hunt him down, but wanted to spend some time with Rachel.

  374. Mary Jane Green

I do believe he KNEW she would, but he wanted to know if his hunch was right. Because no one, not even an elf, can predict what Ms. Morgan will do. She is that kind of witch. She has a good heart.

  375. Diana L.

Will she? Won’t she? Finding out what she would do and watching her would be half the fun for him.

  376. Rebecca Woods

I feel that Trent knows Rachel well enough to know she would not participate and yes, he wanted to have a moonlite ride with her.

  377. Micheala Black

I totally think he invited her just so they could ride together. He knows her too well to actually think that she would want to run Jon down.

  378. Rachel has scruples, much more than Trent. Trent has always had a secret agenda.. I think that Trent learns from Rachel. She is fierce, but fair. At this point in the series, I think Trent wants to see how far he can push her.

  379. Tirza Ulloa

I think the cover of Black Magic Sanction is so different from the others. I got the sense that the gargoyle was very creepy and Rachel holding a knife made her look menacing, as if to say, don’t mess with me or else.

  380. Christopher Kaylor

Trent wanted to see if Rachel had the will to get revenge on Jonathan to see if she would ride him down.

  381. Sara Billings

I think Trent knows that sometimes Rachel isn’t aware of how powerful she is. I also think that he never knows quite what to expect from her, so It could have gone multiple ways. I can;t wait to see what happens next.

  382. Brandy

    Trent was just testing Rachel.

  383. Javinder

I think he wanted to show Rachel part of who he was as an Elf and gave her the choice to come along. I think it was partially a test to see if she would bend, but he definitely likes the fact that he can be himself around her.

  384. Audry messersmith

Trent knew she wouldn’t run down Jon, it’s not in her character. Even if he tried to kill her that’s not how she gets even. They have been flirting for years and this was a way to get her alone and do something he knows she enjoys. I hope they finally end up together!

  385. I think Trent likes to push Rachel and see how far she will go. I think he knew she wouldnt do it

  386. I think Trent is a master manipulator, and knew very well what Rachael’s reaction would be. I think he’s more surprised by how they seem to feel about each other than by what she does most of the time.

  387. Jennifer Amshoff

It was an excuse for a midnight ride and to confirm his opinion of Rachel

  388. Elizabeth

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down, he just wanted to ride with her.

  389. Pam M

I think he wanted to ride alone with her and too see if Rachel really would run Jonathin down…. I really wanted her to!!!

  390. I think Trent was testing Rachel….but would have been happy with either outcome!

  391. Hannah

Trent didn’t quite know how she would react and gave Rachel the opportunity to mete out justice if she chose to do so during the hunt. He let her experience how things are done in his world but let her decide how much she wanted to immerse herself into it.

  392. I think he was testing her to see if she would or not, but didn’t think she would.

  393. I think every decision Trent makes with regards to interactions with Rachel is done with no expectations. She is an over thinker, and that amuses his type “A” personality. After all, how else does he get his kicks?? :D

  394. I think Trent is bored, any excuse to get out is fine for him

  395. Karri Higley

Can I just say I love your work!
He was testing her of course! I love Rachel and Trent’s love/hate relationship

  396. Jey

I think it was just a way for him to get more insight into her psyche… will she? won’t she? What can her choice tell him?

  397. Tami McMorris

think he knew she would not run him down.

  398. Alyssa Lange

I think he knew she wouldn’t, but was testing both himself in how well he knew she would react and Rachel in her morals.

  399. Lauren Jenks

I think Trent wanted to confirm his read on Rachel and if she’d run Jonathan down, their relationship would have gone straight down the toilet. As always, Rachel is Rachel and can’t.. and, of course, Trent knew she wouldn’t. Total excuse for a midnight ride!

  400. Ashley Oosterhouse

I think it was a combination of both. I think Trent was testing Rachel to see what she would do, exact revenge or forgive. I think he also wanted a midnight run with her because she makes him feel things that he is not used to, and that excites him.

  401. I think he was testing her, but also was down for a midnight ride. It feels like he never gets to do a lot of the things he wishes he could in his spare time, and riding is one of them.

  402. I think he wanted the ride with Rachel

  403. Jinny

I think he was offering her the chance to avenge a wrong knowing all along she would not want to participate in killing given that she is vocal about never having killed anyone, except for Peter who wanted to die anyways.

  404. He knew she wouldn’t!!! But maybe he was testing her! I’m sure he wanted a midnight ride!

  405. Jessie Hatem

Trent is always testing people but i think he knew she wouldn’t do it.

  406. tia zuniga

I think Trent and Rachel are always trying to figure each other out and push each others boundaries. I think he always knew it wasn’t in her nature to hunt someone down tho.

  407. Becky Wynne Tilden

Rachel wouldn’t and Trent really wouldn’t expect her to ;-)

  408. Jessica Hacker

Trent knew she wouldnt do it and just wanted to spend sometime with her

  409. Kelly

I don’t think anyone, even Rachel, ever really knows what she’ll do.

  410. Mary W.

He definately just wanted that midnight ride!

  411. Michelle N

I don’t think he cared one way or the other whether she ran Jonathan over or not. But at this point, I think he was still pushing any thoughts of Rachel and him together away, denying what was already starting. So I don’t think he was thinking it through that it would end in a car ride alone.

  412. Sarah Pender

I think that Trent knew that Rachel would not run Jon down because it went against her morals. I believe that he just wanted to ride with her.

  413. TerryH

think it was an elves way of getting some alone time

  414. Definitely a midnight ride. Although he wouldn’t have quibbled if she’d run Jonathan down.

  415. Love the cover, I am into Gothic styled art with a modern twist. Waiting for my turn to read the book since the eldest here has laid first claim to reading rights.

  416. Well I am diligently reading this series (as I just discovered it). I have no insight at the moment but would love to win so I can find out what happens next. *closes eyes to the rest of the comments so she doesn’t see spoilers* :-)

  417. Scott

With Trent, he’d have contingencies set for both. If she would have rode Jonathan down, she’d be drawn even tighter to Trent, and be far more likely to come work for him. If she didn’t, he still get the time alone with her, and gets to demonstrate his tolerance, in hopes of getting her to trust him more that way. It wasn’t quite a win/win situation, but close, in my opinion.

  418. Shiloh

I think Trent is always pushing people to see just what their natures are and where their breaking points are.

  419. Sarah C

I think that Trent was testing her to see if she would exact revenge on someone who has done her wrong. He wanted to know how good she really is, because he is really starting to admire and trust her, despite their rocky past. A midnight ride to show her more of what he really wanted to be, an elf who wanted to be grounded in his culture instead of just a “moral-less businessman”.

  420. I think Trent really wanted her to, but expected that she wouldn’t. Either way, I think he was going to have fun. He really likes to push her buttons and push her to the edge.

  421. Ginnie Grant

Kim! I am dying to see what happens next.. I actually do hope rachel ends up with trent. I wish they would make this into movies or tv shows. You should get together with Sherrilyn Kenyon and do a short story where Jenks meets Simi.. now that would be priceless.

  422. Breanna S

I think he wanted to prove to himself that she was better than that, that she couldn’t really run him down.

  423. Erin Ledlow

I think that the ping-pong between Rachel and Trent has always been one of the many fun parts of why I love reading the books. They test each others boundaries, and that psychological paradox is a big factor of the intrigue that keeps readers coming back. Trent is obviously the less morally-inclined of the two, in the eyes of Rachel who, by the best of her abilities, has tried to stay just to the right side of the line between good and evil, despite everything that’s been slung in her direction. I think that, maybe even just out of curiosity, Trent tends to poke at that part of her in particular, and pushing into hunting down a man, maybe just to see what would happen, would be well within the bounds of such a relationship.
I also love the cover, especially with Bis being one of my favorite characters :)

  424. I have not read the book. The cover like most of your books is dark and mysterious.

  425. Chelsea S.

I think it was all about being able to ride with her, but I don’t think he expected that she would go after Jonathan.

  426. he defiantly wanted a midnight ride alone with her…and much more!

  427. I think he was getting to know her and to see if she had a dark side & again she surprises him.

  428. Vanessa Huschke

I have not read the books yet only the blurbs. They sound so interesting!

  429. Michelle R

I think it was a test to see if she would do it.

  430. Robin

I think he is trying to manipulate her.

  431. Jamie Phillips

I think he knew she wouldn’t but there was a small chance and the ride alone with her was a plus.

  432. Terri McKeon

    Can not wait. Excited

  433. My thoughts are that Trent was not positive what Rachel would do. She is unpredictable. The hunt was a way that elves “networked”. He knew what he would do. He knew that the hunt was going to happen. He knew Rachel hated Jon. He knows Rachel used to love to ride horses. He threw all of that into the mix and watched to see what happened. No matter what happened, Businessman Trent was ready to watch, learn, and get useable results.

  434. I cannot wait to read it!

  435. Kimberly

Trent was definitely going for some alone time!

  436. I think it was his trick to spend time together. The two are drawn together and destined for each other.

  437. I think he knew she wouldn’t.

  438. Jennifer Hart

I think he secretly hoped she would but knew that she wouldn’t. I think Trent was glad that she didn’t though. It would completely change who she is inside. It has been a while since I have read the book and I haven’t been able to keep up with the read alongs so I might have to reread it and Pale Demon before your next one comes out!

  439. Crystal

I have always believe it was a test and he wanted to see what type of person she was. He is always testing people.

  440. Neitkopf

I think Trent was pretty sure that Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan thru. It’s not her nature even when she is enraged. Trent knew that about her but I think he wanted to use this as a way to bring their two worlds a little closer together and to show her that he wants to have her back, even if he doesn’t know how to protect it properly.

  441. Jessica B

I think by this point he knew she wouldn’t have fun hunting him down regardless of how much she’s wanted to in the past.

  442. It’s one thing in her that has changed him to be stronger and better and like himself more. I think he needed the assurance that she wouldn’t so he would have an excuse not to do it and get to ride alone with her.

  443. Yolanda

I believe Trent loves to be surprised by Rachel, so he likes putting her in situations where he doesn’t really know what she will choose.

  444. I think Trent was testing Rachel , but knew in his heart , she could never be that cruel. Trent was also really wanting that midnight ride alone with Rachel <3

  445. I have not read the book, but I’d love to. Your covers, as always, are amazing. There’s always so much going on that just flows, the magic is always there.

  446. krista

    Just a ruse..

  447. Daniele Xenos

Oh my gosh, I don’t know. Reading the book, I really thought he expected her to run him down, but I also think I know it wasn’t really Jonathan. Trent can be a *touch* violent.

  448. Soroya

I believe he was unsure of what she would do and was waiting to see.

  449. Lindsey

I haven’t had a chance to read any of your books but I love all your covers. I have tried to enter a lot of your giveaways but my IE and Chrome crashes all the time when I go through your newsletter. I don’t know why. Anyways, with 600 comments already, I doubt I will win but will keep my fingers crossed.

  450. Sarah K

I don’t think Trent ever knows what Rachel will do. I think it may have been a little bit of both…

  451. Frances Baker

I think he was trying to repair a bridge between the two if them. He has great interest in her and found this a way to make things even.

  452. I think he was testing her to see if she would do it but that he would have been happy with either way it turned out.

  453. Kimberly German

I haven’t read it yet, but I can’t wait to read it!!

  454. Jacki Nodland

I think that he just wanted a midnight ride alone with her.

  455. Kelly Fine

Trent likes to test Rachel…and I think he never quite knows how she’ll react to certain situations.

  456. Tracey

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He just wanted to spend time with her.

  457. I really think he want to ride alone with her again and relive a childhood memory. No matter how he’s treated her, he’s always had a soft spot for her.

  458. To me it seems that Trent has always believed that Rachel has a good heart and so knew that she wouldn’t ride Jonathon down. I also think that the has been intrigued by her from the start and would make up an excuse to spend time alone with her.

  459. Jessica Castle

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it. I think it was purely for shock factor. He seems to me to like to push her buttons and make sure she can see all he’s capable of. The ride alone was a bonus!

  460. Kristin Goode

I think it was a character test…. he wanted to know either way what she would do.

  461. Karen Nicholson

I am working my way through this fantastic series and have not gotten to this one yet. I love the cover, especially since it includes the gargoyle Bis :)

  462. Diane Roberts

Love your books! Great chatcters! I accidently started in the middle of the series so I need to go back and read the first few :)

  463. Daryl

I think he wanted a midnight ride alone with her

  464. Brandi Lisa B

Trent is a sly guy and I feel he was trying to figure Rachel out more than anything, see if she would exact revenge in such a way or if she was more pure of heart than he expected.

  465. I think he was testing Rachel! See if she was true to her morals.

  466. Rachel could never do that to someone

  467. elaing8

He knew she wouldn’t run him down. i think he was just testing her.

  468. I think Trent wasn’t sure what she would do. I think he was betting on her to not run Jonathan down. I expect that he really wanted a midnight ride with her, no matter what.

  469. Angel

I think Trent likes to continue testing Rachel to see how far she will go.

  470. I think he was testing her to see if she would hold fast to her values or if she would give in and run him down. I think he hoped she would hold fast in her values.

  471. Catherine

I think he would have been happy with either one

  472. Jana Leah

I think Trent thought Rachel would have run Jonathan down. It’s what he would have done. Thanks for the giveaway!

  473. I have not read the book yet, but if it follows true to your others it will be awesome. The cover looks to be inviting, dark and mysterious.. Just simply love it!

  474. nonie

I think he knew that she wouldn’t run him down. He just wanted to give her the chance.

  475. Bruce Merkley

I think that he was just playing with Rachel, kind of the adult version of punching the girl you like on the arm and running away in grammar school…(at least that’s what happened when I went to school…when dinosaurs roamed the earth)

  476. Ali

Rach has high moraes, but for Trent she might have !

  477. Sandy Davis

I think he was curious about her and wanted to do what the fortune cookie said “friends and enemies closer.”
    Thanks for this oppertunity!

  478. Rossy

Well, I think he felt guilty about what Jonathan did and wanted to make it up to her in his own way and of course get some alone time with her. =)

  479. I don’t think he was sure, and wanted to find out. I suspect he knew she would not, but wanted to see what she would do given the chance.

  480. Trudy

Trent didn’t expect Rachel to join the hunt. He wanted to relive their days at camp, a time when he didn’t have so many responsibilities.

  481. Heather Garcia

I think Trent was seeing if she had some of the blood-lust Elves have, as well as wanting to share something he loved with her.

  482. Miranda Beazley

I think it was more of a test to see if Rachel is really as good as she appears. And an excuse for Trent to get her out for a midnight ride.

  483. Carrie

I think it was a ruse myself.

  484. Angie130

I don’t think he expected her to hunt Johnathan down. I think he wanted the time alone with her. He knew her better then that by this point.

  485. I think he wanted to see how far she would go but didn’t expect her to so he would get something out of it.
Eagerly awaiting The Undead Pool. Thanks for the giveaway.

  486. Sabrina Morgan

I too think Trent knew Rachel well enough. She couldn’t do that to Jonathan, but he would, for her.

  487. Lara Conlin

Trent wanted Rachel alone. Even though he is afraid of her he is attracted to her and admires her. He knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down.

  488. Tiffany Hudson

I’m excited to be reading all of the books. I will be going to read Trouble on Reserve after posting this!! How awesome.

  489. Ellen Hotchkiss

I think he wanted to see how far she would go with vengeance. And fact she would be taking a midnight ride with her (instead of being chased by one) was a bonus. It was a great juxtaposition for Rachel. And a turning point for her to see she really didnt want vengeance but justice.

  490. Abby K

I think he was expecting her to say no but was curious to her reaction and if she would stay for the midnight ride. I love Trent and Rachel together and can’t wait to see what their future holds! :)

  491. I think Trent sees a kindred spirit in Rache and he wishes she would be more like him. I do believe though that if she were he would not be as attracted to her as he is. I think the fact that she will not bend to him makes him crazy. He is so used to getting his way he does not know how to act around someone who cannot be bought. I think he wished she would run Jonathan down but if she had she would have known his end…

  492. Linda

I think he planned a midnight ride alone with her

  493. Sonya T.

I think he knew she wouldn’t but he has trust issues and probably want to make sure he’s right about her character. Plus he want to ride alone with her again maybe relive the childhood memory.

  494. Dawn cavenee

I believe he expects her to surprise him. He knows she doesn’t take the easy way or the path of least resistance. I think he wanted a job done AND to spend some time with her.

  495. Candy Golden

Oh he knew she wouldn’t do it. He just wanted to confirm to himself that she wouldn’t. He loves her and wanted to be with her, and it was also an opportunity to get her alone.

  496. Jessica R.

I read a few of these and I think we all have the same idea that Trent was in a way testing Rach and wanted a chance to spend some time with her. He is able to open up to her in a way that he has never been able to with anyone else and her having negative feeling towards him is the last thing her wants. For anyone who has been ridding before you understand what a enjoyable time you can have and how the worries of the world can slip away, it’s all about the moment.

  497. Claudia Schmidt

He wanted to know how ruthless she would be, if anyone threatens her life. Nevertheless, he knew she wouldn’t do it (he dared her so to say) and it would be one rare opportunity getting closer to her during the ride – even when he had no intentions at that time ;) or at least he didn’t think so

  498. John Fletcher

Pale Demon is not showing up for 1.99 at amazon or Google play, and not showing up at all at Barnes and Noble

  499. inkie

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it but, because he sent her the dodgy charm, his sense of honour demanded that he at least offer her the opportunity to take part. Jonathan was being punished primarily for crossing Trent, but Trent felt that Rachel was owed some satisfaction, too.
But he knew she wouldn’t go for it and he’d probably get to spend some time with her on a horse and clear the air a bit. Horses seem to bring out the best in both of them. Maybe the only time they really got along at camp was on that ride on Tulpa.
It was more about extending an olive branch than about hunting Jonathan, which was why he didn’t mind when she refused the Hunt, because she still went riding with him.

  500. Marie Sandone

I believe he wanted a ride along with Rachel to spend more time with her.

  501. lisa

I think it was just a ploy to get a ride along. He totally wanted it.

  502. Rebeccah Carley

I love the cover for the book, the gargoyle looks cool with the glowing red eyes. My mom has read all of your books and she loves them, she cannot wait for the new books to come out and I can’t wait to begin reading the series.

  503. Amanda Dickie

Trent just needed some alone time:) Loved the cover!

  504. Oh, he totally wanted that midnight ride with Rachel…:)

  505. Kimberly Doughty

I think deep down he expected her to run him down, but in the event she didnt he would still have a midnight ride. Win win situation.

  506. Cecilia cuevas

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t hunt down Jonathan to kill him but offered her a chance to ride with him as his equal/ even maybe his better. To experience the hunt as he does.

  507. Ellie

I think Trent wanted to see Rachels reaction and also liked the idead of going on a ride for her. I don’t think he really expected Rachel to run Jonathan down.

  508. He wanted the ride with Rachel. He is always looking for ways to get her on a horse, they seem to get along better when riding together.

  509. Shayla moniz

I dont think he fully expected her to, with his knowledge of his morals but gave it a shor anyway. I think the midnight ride alone was to show her what he is really like, and to show her what she could have

  510. I think he wanted to go on a ride alone with Rachel.

  511. Karla Crosby

I think it was a ruse for midnight joyride

  512. purrfectkatus

No, Trent had an idea that Rachel does not have it in her to kill. She will punish but not kill. Trent did want some one on one time with Rachel though and with Jonathan out of the way he could work with Rachel more easily without Jonathan’s jealousy.

  513. I think it was a ruse to go for a midnight joy ride

  514. I think he wanted the ride with Rachel, deep down…

  515. Dellena

I think he wanted that midnight ride with Rachel. I am pretty sure he knew that Rachel would never go along with running Jonathan down, not with her having been on the other end of it. I really think that this book was my second favorite.

Although this one has my favorite of all of the Rachel covers. I loved the Gargoyle in the background. Nice touch with the Gargoyle by the way…

  516. Michelle D

I think it was a ruse. To see how she’d react and possibly to get a moonlit ride with her.

  517. I think it was a weird way for Trent to see how far he could trust Rachel. Rachel is always spouting off about her morals and I think, Trent was looking to see if she would change her own opinion to get revenge. Then again, I am partial to the idea that Trent has been in love or at least lusting for Rachel since they were kids at camp and this was just his way of getting some alone time with her.

  518. Janie Marlow

I think Trent was banking on Rachel’s hatred of Jonathan being so much she would want to kill him. He also got the chance to get rid of a loose string; so win/win for him.

  519. Kristi

I think that Trent wanted to see what Rachel would do. He was prepared for either occurrence, but was betting on her leniency. He knew that she was against killing but wanted to see how deep her morals really lie. I think he was pleased with her refusal and took the opportunity to spend time riding with her.

  520. Billie Hanlin

I love the cover. I have read most of your books. I’m a little behind but will catch up soon.

  521. Jessica S.

I too think Trent knew Rachel well enough. She couldn’t do that to Jonathan, but he would, for her.

  522. Martin

I think he expected her to be squeamish about riding down Jonathan, and wanted to see how she would respond. He knew she hated him, and probably thought he deserved it.

  523. I believe Trent knew she wouldn’t do it & wanted the ride because the love/hate dynamics have been building / proven in the other books. P.S. Will we get to meet Jasmine?

  524. Cheryl

He mostly knew that Rachel wouldn’t run down Jonathan, not that she couldn’t.

  525. kitterpuss

I think that he knows Rachel very well and knew she wouldn’t but knowing Trent, there is always a double meaning to whatever he said and what ever he did. Alone time with her was truly the prize.

I liked they way you slowly leaked the affection that Trent has for Rachel. It was like a slow burn. Even though that I think Ivy and Jenks always knew. Poor Rachel was so obtuse…until the last book…then BAM! it literally hit her on the kisser…lol..;-)

  526. I love the cover :) I’m in the process of reading this series but I’m a little behind

  527. Alicia

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it but did want to show her that he would be willing to run down Jonathan if she wanted to.

  528. I think he did expect her to run Jonathan down but was pleasantly surprised she didn’t and was in awe of her “goodness”. I think the midnight ride was just icing on the cake that he was willing to take advantage of :D Trents got moves! LOL!

  529. I think he just wanted to ride with her.

  530. matkeltri

I think Trent knew Rachel well enough to expect her not to run him down.

  531. I think Trent was testing Rachel… but the alone time didn’t hurt either!

  532. Amy colon

No. I do not think he did. He knew she wouldn’t, he just wanted alone time with her. He wants every minute he can get with Rachel

  533. Edel leonard

I think he was testing her but was at a stage in his character where he didn’t care if he had hurt johnathon

  534. Erin Jones

I honestly don’t think that Trent believed that Rachel would run Jonathan down. He might’ve been testing her, but I am one of the believers that he wanted some alone time with her, away from the demons and magic, even if it was only for a little bit.

  535. shawn manning

Love the covers. By the way, if I don’t win, is there any way to purchase the Alcatraz key? I am a huge Alcatraz buff!

  536. Prudence

I don’t think Trent ever knows what Rachel is going to do – that’s part of her appeal. Whatever happened it would be entertaining and a win: Rachel goes along and is no better than Trent when he ran her down and they are moral equals, or she does her thing and Tent can twist it into an opportunity to be alone, or all Hell could break loose.

  537. It was a test of her moral fiber

  538. Sandy Pants

He knew she would not run Jonathan down and kill him for revenge. He has said more than once that he sees Rachel almost as a moral compass. He knew she did not have the kind of malice in her. He wanted to ride with her. At this point in their story, I think he wants to really know her better. And give her a chance to really know him. It was an excuse to do exactly that.

  539. Susan

I don’t know if Rachel and Trent will hook up. It would be interesting. I still would like to see a new character or Kisten hook up with Rachel.

  540. kelly

I think Rachel SHOULD HAVE but i also knew she wouldn’t….she isn’t THAT heartless….i BELIEVE Trent IS that heartless and he wanted to see what Rachel’s boundaries are…see if he can figure her out…Not that he DOES…or ever will..which i kinda like….

  541. Keltten

I think he was using the horses in an attempt to remind her about the summer camp were she and he meet for the first time! He was also able to punish Jonathan at the same time. Two birds. (its really annoying when you meet a friend from long ago and they don’t remember you! crush or no crush! well little more with a crush!

  542. Denise Z

That is a tough question. I think Trent knows Rachel in ways she does not even imagine, but at the same time he often thinks the worst of her – he just might have thought she would, but knows she would not.

  543. Elyse Stevens

I think Trent was fairly certain Rachel wouldn’t ride him down. But he also knew Rachel can be unpredictable, but it was a risk he was willing to take.

  544. He really likes his time with Rachel and to ride alone with her is just perfect.

  545. Trent knows Rachel won’t kill anyone on purpose, no matter what they’ve done to her. She’s proven that many times. I think Trent likes to show his power over people to her. He’s tried to hurt and kill her so many times, I really hope she doesn’t give in to him. I do not want to see her end up with such a abusive person.

  546. Teresa Roetto

I don’t think that Trent was sure what she would do. He is constantly surprised by her choices. Giving her the opportunity, and watching her reactions seems to fascinate him. The moonlight ride was just gravy.

  547. I believe it was a toss of the dice though he hoped for the result he got. I think Trent was testing Rachel’s moral fiber. He knew she loathed Jon (with good reason) and I think he suspected she would not pursue her vengeance but he wasn’t sure.

I think Trent is searching for Rachel’s boundaries because she is like no one else he knows. I think that’s why he seems to want to own her—she seems too good to be real. And I believe he told the truth about wanting her to experience the freedom of a moonlight ride and cementing their relationship that way. Ultimately, I would say that he was hoping she would decline to kill Jon (whom I suspect Trent still values and didn’t really want to kill anyway) and looking forward to sharing a private midnight ride.

  548. Bryant Maltese

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t but had a small hope that she would run Jonathan down. As always Trent respects Rachel and wants her to work for him so this was just another opportunity for him to convince her.

  549. Ariel

I don’t think Trent ever intended for anyone to ride Jonathan down. At this point, I think he’s just curious about Rachel’s character, despite his better judgment. As kids, they’d bonded while riding Tulpa, even if it was only for a few moments. Maybe Trent was having just as many doubts as to whether or not Rachel could be trusted as she was about him, so he might have believed riding together would give him an answer, one way or another.
Also, I’ve gotten the impression that elves use the Hunt as a way to solidify relationships of any level, personal or professional, so maybe the offer of riding was his way of giving her some respect. *Shrug* Or maybe I just over-analyze. =D

  550. tuchbike

He wanted a midnight ride alone with her, but was verifying since Jon did try to kill her.

  551. Allie Pettigrew

Trent’s a pretty good judge of character–I think he just used it as an excuse to get Rachel alone for a moonlight ride…the fact that it validated his judgement of her character was a perk as far as he was concerned

  552. Jennifer barnes

I do not believe Trent thought Rachel would run Jonathon down. I agree it with others he wanted to have a reason for her to go on a run with him. I think too it was a way for him to get under her skin, which he seems to know how to do well.

  553. Mia Wattenberg

Yes I do believe that Trent really thought that Rachel would not run Jonathan down but it was a way for her to see a side of him and to get a run in with her :D

  554. I love the cover. It is dark and mysterious.

  555. Trent knows Rachel well enough to know she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He just wanted an excuse to have a midnight ride with her.

  556. Diana Spurlock

I think it was more of an adventure thing than a run him down thing

  557. I think Trent would have liked it if Rachel had run him down, but knew she wouldn’t as killing isn’t really her style. The ride alone with her was the main thing.

  558. Stephanie C

Trent wouldn`t think she would do that; don`t know about wanting to be alone with her though. It`s a nice thought

  559. I think he knew she wouldn’t, but saw it as more of a test. I kinda wanted her to say yes.

  560. Tecumseh bryson

I don’t think he was serious about it. More just showing his frustration from them babying him than homicidal intent

  561. Kaala

I think he just really wanted to earn her trust, thus the ride along

  562. I believe Trent has always had a crush on Rachel, and what better excuse than a good hunt and the company of Rachel! After all he is an elf and he knows Rachel loves horses as much as he, but he seems to always have an ulterior motive. I believe in this case he just wants to study Rachel and get a feel for her.

  563. I haven’t gotten that far in reading yet I’ve just finished up Outlaw Demon Wails, and I’ve been following along to update my e-library! It’s been great being able to do that. I love the cover, as because I’m really digging the Gargoyles! I can’t wait to see more of Bis!

  564. I think he totally wanted to go on a midnight horse ride with her…

  565. Catherine Andrade

Of course Trent didn’t think Rachel would want to run Johnathan down – he wanted her to feel the power of the midnight ride.

  566. Heather D.

I think Trent’s ulterior motive may have been the midnight ride but it was definitely a test to see what she would do.

  567. Nancy B.

I think part of him wished she did, and was 60/40 on if she would! I agree he likes to push Rachel to her limits and see how far she would go!

  568. Jeanna A

I’m sure Trent didn’t believe that she would run any body down. He just wanted her to think he would.

  569. Karen

It was a date. He might as well taken her shopping for socks at the local Target. He just wanted to spend time with her.

  570. danielle ham

I honestly think he was just hoping to get that ride with her. Oh how I’d love to see them together.

  571. Kathleen Dunlap

He didn’t think she would run Jonathan down, just wanted to ride with her.

  572. Trent wanted to be with Rachel, especially while doing something he loves. He also enjoys watching her react.

  573. BookLady

Trent really didn’t expect Rachel to run Jonathan down. He only wanted to be alone with her. Thanks for the fantastic giveaway!

  574. I think it was alone time. Trent know her well enough to know she would never do that.

  575. Trent wanted a midnight ride with Rachel.

  576. Janet MacDonald

I saw it as a test, an opportunity to gain insight into her moral code and to bond over the excitement of a midnight ride. Midnight rides are very thrilling.

  577. Ewa

I think that he might have predicted her reaction, but even if she would choose running Jon down, he would have won anyway. She was there and he could show her some of himself, running Jon down or while being alone…

  578. Michelle

I think he just wanted a midnight run alone with her.

  579. NancyLynn Southard

I think it was a ruse for a midnight ride. Trent knows Rachel too well to know she would never run Jonathan down, no matter what he did to her.

  580. Trent wanted a midnight ride alone with Rachel. He knew she wouldn’t run down Jonathan.

  581. Brenda

I think it was wanting to ride with her alone.

  582. Kimberly I

He knew she wouldn’t ride Johnathan down, but wanted to see for himself. It was a lot more about her seeing more of his world and understanding him and his choices.

  583. samantha adams

I think Trent just wanted her along in whatever capacity she wanted. He just wanted her there sharing in something he enjoyed.
    .

  584. Emily

I think he knew she would do it because she had been chased down earlier in the series.

  585. Luann

I think Trent wanted to have a midnight ride with Rachael and that she wouldn’t run him down.

  586. melissa acquaviva

I think he was testing her to see what she would do, either result would help him examine her personality.

  587. Tiffany Martin

I think when it comes to Rachel, Trent never really knows how she will react in any given situation. They are both similar in that they are very in the moment, instinctual individuals. In this instance, Trent offered the hunt as an amends for the I sanctioned attempt on Rachel’s life. He knew there was a very good chance that Rachel would refuse, but I think he hoped she wouldn’t.
It seems he likes to pretend he knows how she will react in any given moment, but Rachel constantly surprises him…which one of the reasons he’s falling for her.

  588. I think he wanted to ride with her but he didn’t expected her to ride the hunt.

  589. Deborah

I think he just wanted the midnight ride alone with her.

  590. I think Trent invited her for the ride; at this point its obvious he has a thing for her, and he’s using the run down as an excuse to spend time with her.

  591. Michelle Knox

I don’t think Trent was hoping for a particular outcome. I think either decision she could make gives Trent more information about Rachel.

  592. spethel

I can’t believe he ever actually thought she’d go for it, but he certainly doesn’t mind her knowing that it’s happening and that he set it in motion, even if Quen & Ceri are the only ones participating.

  593. Virginia

I do not think he really thought she would, but he offered, incase he was wrong. I think he was planning on a midnight ride alone with her all along.

  594. Jennifer

I think that he offered it to her because it’s what he would have wanted, but that he thought that she wouldn’t want to.

  595. Janice A.

I think Trent really wanted to recapture the ride from camp. I don’t think he really expected her to ride the hunt, not how she feels about the dogs.

  596. Sarina Cella

I don’t beleive he actually expected her to do it!

  597. Trent knew that Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. I think Trent will snag alone time with Rachel whenever he can.

  598. Jaimi

I think Trent knew Rachel would most likely not run Jonathan down but secretly enjoys Rachel’s company ;-)

  599. Jeremy Boatman

I think Trent knew very well that she wouldn’t do it he just wanted her company.

  600. Kim Livaudais

I think Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathon down. I think he was counting on it, personally. It was a test for Rachel. Plus, it was a chance for Rachel to see Trent in his natural setting, and for him to get past some of her defenses.

  601. Wendy W

I think Trent uses any excuse he can get to be with Rachel.

    • Tonya Harrison

I don’t believe Trent thought she would actually kill Jon. That a taste of his own medicine was only fair and if she did kill him no skin off of Trents nose either way.

  602. I think!! That since it was Rachel who was the one he attacked, he figured she deserved the chance to get revenge! Also, Rachel HATES Jon!!
Trent could also just want her alone… who knows how long he’s been in love with her…

  603. I don’t think he expected her to run him down. I love the shadowy cover and I can’t wait to see you in Boston, wearing my FV shirt! :-)

  604. I think it was a test that she passed and a reason to get her alone. I know you said one more after undead pool. May we get a happy ever after for Al?

  605. Nicole McMillin

I think Trent was testing Rachel’s morals, assuming she would not help run Jonathan down. Seems like Trent likes people to pass his tests. Was also a great excuse for a midnight ride! (Which might have been another test for her; or himself?!?)

  606. Vanessa Hinson

Trent knew Rachel would not run Jonathon down, he totally just wanted to be with her. I love your books! Thank you so much for this great world and the fantastic characters/ imaginary friends that you have created! Hope you write many more!

  607. Amber

I knew Rachel couldn’t run him over.

  608. Joslyn Whitt

Oh I wish she would run him down… at least tap him but Rachel is just too good. :)

  609. Nichole Zito

I dont think Trent thought that Rachel would really run Jonathan down. If he knew Rachel at all he would know that wasnt like her. It was to get her alone. :)

  610. Thought he wanted to get her alone.

  611. Denise

I think he was testing her a bit, but he was pretty sure she wouldn’t do it. Plus it gave him a reason to be around her.

  612. I think it was a “let’s see what she does” moment–he wasn’t sure which he would get, but was hoping for the midnight ride alone, partly because he’s liking Rachel more and more, but partly because he wanted to be sure that she wasn’t that ruthless.

  613. Neither one expected her to run him down, but they both seem to enjoy testing the limits of her morals!

  614. Jacqueline Bailey

It was a way for Trent to spend time with her

  615. Bianca Dust

I think he might have strongly suspected that she wouldn’t run him down, just because she always made a big deal out of everything he did that went along those lines, but there might have also been a chance he was testing her a bit. It could have gone either way with him in my mind.

  616. Jennifer

I think Trent wanted to make it up to Rachel for what Jon did but he knew she didn’t have it in her to hunt him down.

  617. Kelly Dunson

Trent didn’t think Rachel would run him down. We just wanted her to…

  618. Liz

I think he really likes her and any excuse is a good one.

  619. Jessica D

I haven’t read this one yet but I love the cover! As with all the other covers. Thanks for your giveaway!

  620. Cara Randolph

Rachel and Trent are very attracted to each other. However, admitting to it is another story. He wanted Rachel to go on that midnight ride in order to reach out to her and show her he was both romantic plus had a good moral code.

Jonathan had stepped out of line within Trends corporation and needed to be put in his place. Trent figured why not do it traditionally and give Rachel the satisfaction of justice being served at the same time.

  621. Tamara

I think it was a test to see how far she would go/ how far he could push her.

  622. Kat Harrington

I think Jonathan was all ready one of the dogs…and he was testing her to see if she would go.

  623. Trent knew she would not do the run, but he also likes to test her and see where her sense of morality ends. Also, he always loves a chance to be with her, you can tell that easy!

  624. Ruth Barbee

I think Trent knew Rachel would not run Jon down.

  625. jennver

I thinkit was a domination thing. He wanted to show her what he was capable of, perhaps to show that he had no reason to fear her (because he was starting to be afraid?)

  626. BWolf

Trent likes to push and test people. In this case he gets to test Rachel and also gets to be alone with Rachel. I have a feeling he wouldn’t care what Rachel ultimately did to Johnathan, but he would enjoy the ride along the way. And deal with any fall out in the end. At the same time, I am sure Trent was pleased the way she handled the whole thing. Both learned something. And I think it was a true beginning, of sorts, for them.

  627. Caitlin V.

I do not think Trent expected Rachel to run Jonathon down, regardless of how nice of a thought that is. I think it was simply an excuse to get her to ride, and to spend time with her outside of a run or anything similar.

  628. I think Trent knows her well enough to know she wouldn’t actually run down Jonathan. I think it was to get her there to talk.

  629. Shell Davis

Trent knew she would not do it. After this much time of knowing her, he did not expect her to do such a thing. He wanted the ride alone!

  630. Kiley M.

I think it was Trent’s way of getting her to spend some time with him regardless of her participation, but I do think he was curious to see if she would do it or not.

  631. I haven’t read this yet. It’s on my TBR that is a mile long. Wonderful kick ass cover though.

  632. Mandy

I think he knew she wouldnt

  633. Jen W.

It’s a great cover. All the Rachel attitude with a side of gargoyle!

  634. Claire

He knew she wouldn’t. I think he wanted to show her he was in charge and not to mess with him. And also, you know, cause he likes her.

  635. It was one more test For Rachel and a relive of their ride at camp.

  636. moonbeam080680

I think he knew she would not run him down even after everything Jonathan had done. I think part of the reason he asked her might have been so that she could see what it felt like to be on the other end of the chase. After all, she was in Jonathan’s place once before.

  637. Roger

After all the stuff she hadn’t done to HIM, Trent must have known she wouldn’t do worse to Jonathan

  638. dana

I think it was just trent way of getting her to spend time with him. That way he made it sound like it was something for her when he really wanted to spend time with her for him.

  639. Jennifer Roy

Trent doesn’t easily express his emotions (even to himself), so he must find reasons that validate his spending time with Rachel, such as riding Jonathan down.

  640. tamie ritchie

Trent just wanted a midnight ride with the itchy witch.

  641. Amanda Brubaker

I think Trent just wanted to scare her.

  642. Nici B.

I never saw it as a “test” before, I alway assumed that he thought this is quite normal (elves hunt their enemies down). But now that I am thinking about it, I guess he expected her to have in the end similar morals as he has, than learning that she really does not want to kill any kind of person, keeping true to herself even if given the chance.

  643. Kristine Clarey

I think that perhaps he was testing her. Trent knew Rachel’s character, but he couldn’t resist testing her like he tests everyone else.

  644. Rae G.

He knew Rachel wouldn’t hunt down Jonathan; I think he wanted to spend some time with Rachel so she could learn to trust him.

  645. kristina

I think Trent just wanted a ride alone with her.

  646. Aimée Laibida

I think it was just an excuse to get her out for a ride… And see if she might surprise him.

  647. Daniel Ludlow

I believe Trent invited her not caring whether or not she actually ran Jonathan down. I think he has liked her since he met her, wanted to spend time with her, and was giving her the gift of the chance.

  648. Lisa A

I think it was a bit of both. Trent likes to test the limits with Rachel and she enjoys the challenge/temptation. I also think Rachel uses situations like this to keep her wits about her. This is probably the point where their relationship starts to evolve a bit. :)

  649. Michelle K

    It was a ruse

  650. janine16

I honestly don’t know. Maybe Trent had realized before hand that she would refuse to hunt down Jonathon, so he had the back-up plan of taking her riding alone with him.

  651. Rachel

I think he was still testing her convictions a bit at this point, seeing if she was truly the person he thought she was. But I also think he knew she wouldn’t go through with an ugly ending for Jonathan, but that she’d go along on the ride to see that it didn’t happen and keep her conscience clear. This also seems to be a turning point where they start to accept each other more and the choices they make, respectively.

  652. Patty Taabor

I Think he wanted a mid-night ride alone with her. I think he felt something for her even then.

  653. Shannon Davis-Ludlow

I honestly think he expected her to.

  654. nicole

I think it was trents subtle way of getting rachel out in his setting to see how his world goes to get hher alone for awhile

  655. rebecca navarro

I think he knows her well enough to know she wouldn’t run Jonathan down.

  656. Ana Fisic

I think he wanted to see if she would actually do it, but would be happy just to talk her into going for a midnight ride with her

  657. Chelsea

I think Trent wanted Rachel to be included in that part of his life.

  658. Shannon

I think Trent was testing Rachel. I don’t think he expected her to run him down but he definitely wanted her to ride with him.

  659. Whitney

I don’t think he ever thought Rachel would run Jonathan down and that the whole thing was just a ruse.

  660. cgc071

I think Treat knew Rachel would not be bloodthirsty an follow the “pack”. She just enjoyed the ride with the elves..As her father told her.. And, she really enjoyed being with Treat an riding like they did in their childhood.
As a critic of art, I have enjoyed the interpretation of the artist doing your covers. Very well thought out an thankfully not slurry as I see so many doing. Congrats.! (YES, I’ve already Preordered my copy of The Undead Pool”!! Can’t wait! )

  661. Patricia

at first i thought he did wanted her to run him down, but as i thought about it i realize that he knew she wasn’t going to do it,she is not that type of person and i think that is one of the things he likes about her

  662. A little of both. I think he wanted to test her to see what she would be willing to do when it came to another person, and he wanted to have her ride with him.

  663. Waneta Walker

I think he figured she wouldn’t join the hunt but was testing her to make sure he was right. Knowing she delves into things she isn’t always comfortable with, he was seeing how far she’d go. Time alone with her was an added plus.

  664. Cathy Wicks

It was Trent trying to give her justice but knowing all along she wouldn’t follow thru to the “final” end. And Trent respected her for her strong convictions about not taking a life un-necessarily.

  665. Melissa B in IL

I think it was a test to see if she would…. and then he’d get to ride with her.

  666. Mel K.

I think this was a classic ‘why don’t I push her buttons and see what makes her tick’ kind of move on Trent’s part. He’s always testing Rachel, not being able to easily read her like he can with the others around him. At this point in their relationship, Trent already had a good idea that she wouldn’t, but he knows she can be unpredictable.. and a moonlight horseback ride with her wouldn’t hurt either. ;)

  667. Anne

I dont THINK Trent expected Rachel to ride him down ‘though i wouldn’t put it past him to use this as a test and find either result useful. I’m still on the wall about Trent and i’m looking forward to seeing where he ends up.

  668. Megan

I think that Trent wanted to get Rachel alone, but also to see the gears turning in her head to see what she would say. Rachel is always unpredictable to Trent, so hearing what she had to say would help him understand her better.

  669. Jennifer

I honestly believe that Trent knew Rachael wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He wanted to give Jonathan a lesson for one and two Trent wanted to see how far he could push Rachael to his side of thinking.

  670. Virginia

I think most of the responses on this blog are pretty correct. Nothing with Trent is simple, and I think he is very intrigued by Rachel. I think he wanted her to come for a combination of reasons, to see her character, to see her ride again like they did when they were kids, to see her dark side maybe. I hope they hook up, the sexual tension is so taunt it rings like a hard strung guitar string.

  671. Rachael Harrison

Trent wanted Rachel to run him down!

  672. Sarah Bird

I think it was another of Trent’s tests to see what she would do. He knew she would show. But unsure what she would do once there. It would be fine to run Jon down but unlike Rachel but would she ride alone with Trent? Heck yes that is Rachel

  673. I don’t think at this point he knows what to expect from Rachel. He wanted to giver her that option, and he would respect her for either decision. His way of helping her feel safe- and restoring honor.

P.S. You rule! Thank you for these giveaways!

  674. Danielle Miller

I think he was hoping she would do it, but really just wanted the tide with her.

  675. BIt of both. Part of him probably wasn’t sure if she would, but hoped shw wouldn’t, whilst the chance to get her out rising with him (by any means) was too good to pass up

  676. Amanda Mauller

If he knows Rachel half as well as he thinks he does then it must have been an excuse for a midnight ride…

  677. tenita shoats

I believe it was about spending time with her but running him down would be an extra perk

  678. SandyS

He invited her to get some alone time

  679. Jennifer

I think Trent wanted her to join the Hunt, but knew she wouldn’t. This gave him a chance to ask her why. I think he is trying to understand her as he is starting to question his own morality. Bonus: he gets to ride off into the sunset with her even when she refuses to join the Hunt.

  680. Kat T

I think he was planning for her to not run him down. It’s not in Rachel’s character to do that. Even if Jonathan was a horrible person. Trent knew it and planned accordingly. =)

  681. Zaynab Al-Tayib

I don’t think his main aim was for Racheal to run Jonathan down, I believe he just used it as an excuse to spend time with her.

  682. Michelle Darbonne

Trent knew Rachel would not agree to the Hunt. I do believe he also knew she wouldnt be able to pass up a midnight run. Trent is one sly elf.

  683. Trent’s is considering Rachel to be better than he used to, not as over his shoulder as before.

  684. Trent knew Rachel would never run Jonathan down, Trent just wanted some alone time with Rachel and this was his only way to get her to his place.

  685. Brenda Tomasello

I think at that point he was still wondering about her morals and wanted to see where she was. I think he also wanted a ride alone with her considering the memory that he helped her remember.

  686. Danielle DePietro

I think he invited her knowing they’d be alone.

  687. Ari Rostkier

Hi! I’m here cause a friend kind of forced me into this. She loves The Hollows’s Series and I owe her a favor so here I am. I think the cover of this book is quite sexy and provocative, than woman seems dangerous.

  688. charles taylor

Alone time, with the plus getting rid of Jonathan, win win! :)

  689. Brandy

Seems like Trent was trying to reach out to her. I think he DID expect her to run Jonathan down, because that is what he would want to do, but her refusal to do so both intrigued him and gave his burgeoning respect for her a bit of an upward bump.

  690. Danniell Hampton

I haven’t read it yet but the cover is awesome.

  691. Melenie

He wasnt sure if she would but his best guess was she would not as he knows her moral code. And he definitely wanted the ride with her!

  692. I think he wanted the alone time so he can show her more of who he is without the show he has to put on, giving chase on Jonathan would be a fun little gift.

  693. Evelyn Mitchell

I think it was partly a test, because it’s in Trent’s nature to poke at things. He needs to know how far people will go, test their boundaries. But Trent never does anything for just one reason, so of course it made for a nice excuse to go on a lovely midnight ride with Rachel.

  694. I don’t think he really expected her to. He was more interested in the ride alone.

  695. Silva Andrews

    Would love this!

  696. Emily T

I don’t think he actually though she’d run him down. I think he used it as an excuse to spend some time with her.

  697. Stephanie Young

Trent has a weird honor code. He gave Rachel her due and right and placed the choice in her hands. I believe he wanted to be with her and show her a part of his world by giving her a personal Hunt. He would have supported whatever decision she had made.

  698. A midnight ride that was also a test! With Trent nothing is ever simple!

  699. He knew she wouldn’t be interested in revenge on Jonathan, so he opted for the alone time.

  700. Denise

I think he wanted time alone with her. And even if she didn’t like the reason for the ride, it’s a step to get her to accept him for who and what he is.

  701. Heather Corby

Trent wanted to ride with her, but also see what she would do. He is always testing Rachel, finding out her motivations, seeing what makes her tick.

  702. Thank you for the giveaway! I doubt that Trent really expected Rachel to run Jonathan down. I think it was his way of giving her some sense of justice and perhaps showing her how elves do things.

  703. Robyn

    Definitely a rouse !

  704. KirkB

Trent himself wouldn’t have hesitated to run Jonathon down so a part of him was surprised Rachel had a hard time with it, but mostly I think he was trying to get an idea of her character.

  705. Stephanie K Malone

I think he wanted a ride alone with her. Any alone time helps his cause.

  706. Ginny

He wanted to spend time alone with her

  707. A little of both, the Hunt is something important in elven tradition, so he invited her using Jonathan as a excuse, to show he has begun to respect her, that he wants to treat her like an equal, and some time alone too.

  708. Lisa Garcia

    Tent wanted alone time.

  709. Elise N

I think Trent was testing Rachel. He wanted to see what she’d do.

  710. Mary Ann

It was a ruse for sure!

  711. Nicole U

I think he really wanted ride with her. He seems to find ways to be around and touch her. He just doesn’t always think through what her reaction is going to be. As far sighted as he is about what will happen next, he can quite get a hold of how Rachel will respond. She is the unpredictable in his life.

  712. Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run down Jon, no matter how much she disliked him. It was an opportunity to spend time together. 😃

  713. Katie Eschenburg

I honestly think that he was waiting to see what she would do. He wanted her to know he has control and was letting her make up her own mind on what she would do with the situation.
Can’t wait till next month Kim!!!!! Yay!!!!

  714. Lesley

I think it’s more of his pattern: he totally WANTS to own her, to convert her, to have power over her in some way because it’s the only way he knows how to trust people (make them too scared/guilty to betray him)…and she keeps refusing to give him any power over her at all, and he’s helplessly intrigued by her anyway even though he still can’t bring himself to trust her. :) So of course he’s hoping she’ll Hunt with him, but he’ll settle for a ride because he just can’t help himself. I love their relationship, even as I want to strangle him many times throughout the series…

  715. I think Trent was hoping to be able to spend extra time with Rachel any way he could. Jonathan was just a carrot to entice her.

  716. Deb

Well we all know that Trent and Rachel both like to push each others buttons, especially to see how far they will go. He remembers from when they were kids at the camp that she had been on his horse before, maybe he was just wanting to see if she would go for a ride again. I think he knew she wasn’t going to run Jonathan down, he knows she has a hard time with killing people!!!

  717. Frances

I think he wanted a ride alone with her

  718. I think he wanted to ride alone with her!

  719. Crystal Thain

There can’t be anything more wonderful than a midnight ride. He wanted a midnight ride with Rachel.

  720. TripleCat

He was testing her but I think he really just wanted a ride alone with Rachel.

  721. I think Trent knows how Rachel feels about most things, Morally. He would have known that she would have never chosen to run Jonathan down. I think he wanted a little alone time.

  722. I think he just wanted to spend time with her while giving her the chance to scare Jonathan.

  723. lody

I think it was a ruse and he wanted to share the experience with her.

  724. I think I agree with a lot of the other people that say it was kind of one of Trent’s tests.

  725. MB

Definitely a ruse to get alone with Rachel… He’s a sneaky Elf!

  726. Michelle

Trent knew that she was not going to run down Jonathan. I think he was testing both Rachel, and himself, by inviting her along for the ride. He was testing himself because he wanted to gauge whether or not he could accurately predict what she was going to do- would she stick to her morals or is she not the person he’s coming to think of her as? Secondly, he was testing Rachel to see if she would be able to take that leap to come and go on the midnight ride with him. I think it was a way to see whether or not their relationship had the potential to change. Perhaps at this point he was thinking mostly in a platonic way, but I think that even here there are the romantic undertones and a curiosity about what could potentially come between the two of them. Rachel definitely intrigues Trent.

    Sorry for the long response!

  727. Keith

I am leaning towards expecting her to join in, but I expect that he may have been unsure himself.

  728. I think it was another one of his “demon” tests to really test her resolve, and integrity. It was an elf tradition to do so, but Rachel didnt want any part of it. She just wanted to feel free like she did as a child, riding with Trent. I think it gave her a little peace and more of an insight into Trent’s mind more than anything.

  729. I think he had dual motives, as usual.

  730. Lelania

Trent sometimes looks for ways to get close to Rachel, I think he wanted the ride alone. :)

  731. Tiffanie S.

Trent knew she wouldn’t do it. He wanted time alone.

  732. jayne luckett

He wanted her alone of course!! Wanted to walk down memory lane with her lol

  733. Jessica Peters

I don’t think that Trent expected Rachel to accept. I think he expected her to refuse, and had the offer of the midnight ride as a back up.

  734. Cindy Jo

Trent knew that Rachel would never hunt Jonathan down. I think he was trying to expand her black and white view of the eworld. He wanted to recapture part of his childhood as well and riding with Rachel was reminiscent of the time they spent at camp.

  735. Stephanie Planck

I think he was testing her, but was more for the ride with Rachel.

  736. I think Trent just wanted a ride alone with Rachel

  737. Jenny S

He had to know she wouldn’t do it. he knows her well enough by now to know she’d never do anything like that, even if he did deserve it….btw my bday is Wednesday :) Id love to win this

  738. Ginger Harden

I think he knew she would reduse to run down Jonathan. This was his excuse to spend more time alone with Rachel on a nice midnight ride.

  739. Marcia Siehr

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t do it, but like he wanted to get her alone because he wanted her to see the world from the elves perspective so she would respect him and fight with him! Also, this cover is my favorite because it has Rachel and Bis, and Bis looks wickedly tough!

  740. Rebecca Hollingsworth

He wanted a ride to recall to her their early years. I don’t think he thought she would run Jonathan down but maybe he thought she would see his joy in the hunt and might change her mind and join in.

  741. He wanted more time with her.

  742. I really like the cover. It is very effective.

  743. An

    Excuse for a midnight ride

  744. dinven

If i were to bet, i’d say that Trent wanted to gain as much as he could in that moment. He got to spend some time with Rachel – sure, but not just for some undescribed fun. First, he showed her what it means to betray his trust or disobey his orders. Smooth warning. Second, he did give her somewhat an opportunity to get her revenge on Jonathan – but it is not certain he would have let her grab on it above the “moderate” level. He although took a good look at her behaviour, reactions and some sort of the “life truth” she believes.
He could had discovered a lot of things about Rachel in that situation – what exactly person she is. It is important to know such stuff about one’s potential business partner, espacially if one deals daily with “uncommon” matters:)

  745. Library Lady

I think he knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down, but he wanted to ride with her.

  746. Time alone with Rachel was the goal, but running down Jonathan would have been a bonus as far has he was concerned.

  747. Lisa

I think it was a test of morality to determine Rachel’s values.

  748. Nancy H

I don’t think he thought she would run John down. It was a way to get her out to go for a ride.

  749. I think that they were both testing because of the memories they both have… or what little memories….lol but know I don’t really think deep down that Rachel thought he would do that to Jonathan. I think he was remembering the ride the shared as kids…

  750. He definitely wanted an excuse to ride. I think Trent admires Rachel’s values because he is the opposite.

  751. Shelley Sandro

First time reading the book, I didn’t know what to expect between Trent and Rachel. I thought maybe he asked her out there to see whether she would or not and her decision would determine if she could be a good business partner or friend.

  752. goldgrl7

No, Trent just wanted a good excuse to spend time with Rachel.

  753. MariaDelCarmenDoloresA

Trent wanted to show Rachel the joy of a midnight ride, he knew she would never run Jonathan down.

  754. Scott Vaubel

Can’t wait for the new book and am really hoping to finally get over to Lansing for the signing.

  755. Marcie

He knew she would not run after Jonathan. He wanted the time alone with her, but giving her the option gave him the excuse that it was her choice.

  756. Dana Stiles

I think he was testing her & could get to ride with her

  757. Laura Stratton

I think he didn’t care one way or the other what she chose to do, he wanted to show her a side of him that she could possibly start to trust. Open up to her and let her in on a piece of his personal life. He sees how far she has come and what she’s been through and wants to trust her.

  758. Gina Barry

I think he knew she wouldn’t hunt down Jonathan. The whole misaligned pandora charm was about their ride together when they were kids. It was a way to remind Rachel of who they were before they were grown up and molded by their life decisions.

  759. Mary

I’m not sure he knew exactly what he expected. Part of it was he wanted her to know what he would do to someone who betrayed him. He wanted to see if she would participate, but didn’t really expect it. And he wanted to be alone time with her too.

  760. Jennifer Hornberger

I think he’s pushing her to see things his way but he also respects when she refuses

  761. Lindsay

I’m sorry, Kim, but I’m just not a Trent fan (although he has been growing on me in the later books). I truly think that Trent really expected Rachel to run Jonathan down. His ethics sees nothing wrong with it, and Ceri and the men he looks up to agree with that thinking. So until Rachel points it out to him, he doesn’t realize that anyone could see anything wrong with it. IMO this is just one more way that Rachel changes him for the better.

  762. g33kxx

Trent doesn’t yet realize that Rachel thinks differently than he does, she hasn’t had to be as ruthless. I think he thought she really would do it. But it’s been awhile since I’ve read this one, I reserve the right to change my opinion later ;)

  763. Christi Green

Trent knew that she wouldn’t. Tricky Trent, as usual, using his resources to get maximum impact.

  764. I think Trent wanted to give Rachael the chance to treat Jonathan with the same respect (cough, cough) that Jonathan gave her as a mink in a cage. But then a good midnight run made his night even elfier!

  765. Sarah M.

I think Trent may have talked himself into his decision be claiming ulterior motive, but he really just wanted time with Rachel.

  766. Amy H

He was testing her. Here is someone who had tormented Rachel in DWW and Trent was seeing if she would bend on her morals when it was something that personal. Plus he just wanted an excuse to get her on a midnight ride, so it was win-win.

  767. julie destry

No, I think it was a teat to see what she would do and handle the situation. Trent likes to have things figured out, and we all know how much of an enigma Rachel is!

  768. I loved this book threw ne for a complete loop.

  769. Vampyre

Suggestion….put the comment box at the top of the page. :)

I’m not sure Trent really knows what to expect from Rachel. He enjoys finding out though. By asking her to join in, he was showing his respect for her.

    V^^^^V

  770. Bonnie

I think Trent wanted to ba alone with Rachel and wouldn’t run down Jonathon.

  771. angelica atkinson

I think Trent was a bit curious about what she would do but was mostly intriqued by Rachel herself and just wanted to ride with her.

  772. Anne

I think he knew she wouldn’t but he wanted to show her that her that he did not want her dead and would punish anyone who tried. I also think getting to ride with her again was a bonus he was looking forward to.

  773. I think Trent was pretty sure Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down but then Rachel is always a wild card so there was a slight chance. Who wouldn’t like a midnight ride?

  774. Nicole Williams

I think Trent is always pushing Rachel just to see if her strength of will is intact. She has so many inner battles, but good wins out most times. Plus it’s Trent so saying no to him is almost automatic. Trent on the other hand has no quarrels about using the best weapon to get the job done, boat ride with Rachel just a bonus!

  775. renee green

I think Trent kmew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. I think he’s known her better than she’s known herself for a long time. It was just an excuse to go on a ride with her and a way to punish Johnathan.

  776. Samantha Delfosse

I think it was a little of both. Trent wanted to spend time with Rachel in his world and wanted to confirm his knowledge of who she is. Two birds with one stone.

  777. Elizabeth Turney

Trent knows Rachel so well. He knew she would appreciate being allowed to choose, and he wanted to appreciate the time with her.

  778. I really need to get caught up past book 6 as you keep asking questions I cannot answer. sigh.

  779. Magdalena Preciado

Nah, I think Trent knew that Rachel wouldn’t hunt Jonathan dow, so what he really wanted was to ride aloe with her, showing in a way his true self.

  780. Rianne

Trent used it as an excuse. He wanted time with Rachel.

  781. Samantha Newbury

I think he wanted to see what Rachel would do. But I do think he wanted to be alone with her.

  782. Christina D

I think Trent wanted to see how she would react. I’m not sure he knew what Rachel would do, but seems to like her challenging him!

  783. Grace

What an interesting question! Tricksy elf :0). But I think in this case it was to start letting Rachel into his personal life and to let her feel the power that she felt in camp. Besides they weren’t really hunting Jonathan (although he might have been one of the tracking dogs hahaha) and Trent knew it.

  784. val E

I don’t think there was anything romantic about it. I believe it was his way of reminding her what happens when someone crosses him, even if it is someone in his inner circle that he trusts. Trying to drive home that she needs to remove to familiar mark or else.

  785. Mitchell Brashier

No it was a ruse. He wanted to ride alone with Rachel.

  786. Louise White

Think it was Trents way of saying sorry to Rachel and to thank her at the same time aso. he offered her to join him in the chase, pherhaps even give johnathan a tase of his own medicine a little bit of a payback for the time johnathan tormented Rachel as a mink? trent knew Rachel couldnt kill johnathan but no one didnt say that rachel couldnt have a little fun time in the moonlight.

  787. LuAnne

Trent knows Rachel well. He knew she would never run Jonathan down no matter how much he had tormented her. Definitely alone time. Rachel fascinates him.

  788. Sam

I think Trent wanted a midnight run regardless of what Rachel would do. If they ran after something it would be thrilling, if they just rode together, that would work too.

  789. Yasmin parra

I think it was just a midnight ride to try and spend more time with Rachel.

  790. chelsie Russell

He really is a mystery to me because you can’t really tell what he is thinking, he is a complicated character.

  791. He knew she wouldn’t but understands her enough to know that he needed to show he respects her and her right to chose for herself. It also allowed him the ride with her, which I feel he really wanted. He doesn’t articulate emotion but we can sense his need to be near her and connect.

  792. Peggy

    A little of both.

  793. Tommy

I think he think more of her then that and knew she wouldn’t do it and just wanted her to be near him

  794. I think he already knew she wouldn’t do it, but he wanted to give her the chance anyway. It showed him where her line is ,,,,,the one that she won’t cross.

  795. Freida

I think it was probably a little of both. Trent wanted alone time with Rach, true. He also wanted to offer her the chance to get her own justice. It was something of a test, to see how far Rach would go, where her boundaries lay. Of course, Rachel tends to be a bit explosive and impulsive at times, so he probably felt that it could go either way, just depending on where her head and heart were at the moment.

  796. jenny

He just wanted to spend time with her.

  797. Josiah germain

I think it was a ruse for a midnight ride. Trent knew Rachel good enough to know that she wouldn’t really run somebody down

  798. Kelly

I think Trent just wanted a ride alone with her.

  799. Diane P.

I believe he knew he’d get a ride alone with her, he would of enjoyed running Jonathon down with her, and the surprise she would have caused if she had agreed.

  800. nsh

yes. trent could not care less. he wanted jonathan to be run down.

  801. Danyel

I don’t think Trent expected Rachel to go for riding Jonathan down but I think he wanted to give her the option. Talking her into the ride alone was certainly easier after the offer to ride down Jonathan.

  802. Crish Cottrill

A little of both I imagine. Trent is seeing Rachel more as an ally, a friend, a past comrade, and he needed to see what she can be truly capable of….and her limits. The ride under the new elven moon was also an initiation maybe to tie a bond between them, that started at camp. The connection has always been there, it now has to be defined and refined into the unbreakable bond they both need, but don’t have with anyone else. Romance is still in the back seat at this moment….the foundation is being created….although neither may realize it.

  803. Amy McDonald

I really think he wanted to ride with Rachel!!!

  804. IreneM

I fell behind with The Outlaw Demon Wails read-along so can’t say anything about the midnight ride of Rachel and Trent (?!?!?!) but I love the cover – I guess it’s Bis there with Rachel, they look cute together (it’s not how I imagined a gargoyle).

  805. Amie Doughty

I kind of think it was a Trentian test. He likes to see how people work and to test their mettle, and Rachel is a particularly popular specimen for him.

  806. Jamie

I think Trent wanted to see what Rachel would do. She tends to surprise him quite often. I think he did want time alone with her, but also wanted to see what her reaction would be.

  807. Heidi Davis

I believe he wanted to be with her alone but it was also a test.

  808. Delaney

I’m thinking he knew she wouldn’t ride down Jon, but wanted to get her on a horse with him again. And I loved what he said about her going to need a good memory like that one day so she could remember what it was she needed to be fighting for. He’s a smart man

  809. Sofía Lara

I think he really had the need for a horseride, the Hunt is part of his nature too and, as the hunted was Jonathan, Trent considered proper to ask Rachel to go with him.
Trent’s starting to see Rachel as something different from a thing he can use, he’s starting to considering her as an equal I think, a helpfull partner.
I hope to be lucky this time!

  810. It was a test, of sorts. He knew she wouldn’t.

  811. Leslie D.

I think he knew she wouldn’t but wanted to offer her the opportunity for justice

  812. He just wanted her for the ride along. He knew she wouldn’t.

  813. Sandra H

I think he did think she would because that’s what he would do.

  814. I believe that Trent thought that she wouldn’t run down Jonathan. She despises the hunt. It terrifies her.

  815. Abbie

I think Trent really wanted a ride alone with Rachel, he seemed over the span of the books to want to try to have time alone with her here and there. Plus I think he wanted to see her reaction to the midnight ride.

  816. Kara Ward

Trent has had a thing for Rachel ever since their camp days I think so he definitely wanted a night ride alone with her!

  817. Ann Powell

Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He wanted to be alone with her, and this was his way of doing it.

  818. I think Trent wanted her to say no to stand by her morals and was hoping to get a ride alone with her. I also think he likes to see where she will draw the line.

  819. david dumanski

I think Trent was testing Rachel to see if she would run Jonathan down but knew she wouldn’t so gave him an excuse to just have a midnight ride with her :)

  820. Robin Moore

I think an excuse for a ride.

  821. Jessica Edens

If Trent knows anything about Rachel (which he so often seems to) he would know running down Jon wasn’t going to happen. That being said, it had to be an excuse for a ride.

  822. Charlena

Rachel is too good of a person to run Jonathan down, even tho we all know she wants to

  823. I think it was more of an offering of peace and acceptance. I am not really sure if he really thought Rachel would hunt someone down like that after her experience (but I kinda wish she did while at the same time knowing it would have changed her in such a way that she would no longer be Rachel…)

  824. Christy B.

I believe he was testing her but hoped for a ride alone with her.

  825. I don’t think he knew she would or wouldn’t and wanted to test her boundaries on this. But he was definitely trying to get her to come to his side, in a way.

  826. Danu

At the time, Rachel thought he was serious. Later, she finds out that he had wanted to test her resolve, but also wanted to see her riding by his side again. It was a win-win for him, but just adds to her confusion about how Trent ticks.

  827. Donna Murphy

I believe that Trent believed that all he wanted was for Rachel to get Jonathan but I think there is a lot of feelings he won’t admit to where Rachel is concerned. He just seems conflicted in what he really wants, like he just can’t admit that he could need anybody. I didn’t like Trent at first but he has grown on me the more we learn about him. Oh, and I love the cover!! Isn’t that Bis on there?? He’s my favorite!!! I’d like to have my own Bis to keep me company!!

  828. Rachelle Resendez

I think Trent knew she would join him and he wanted her to ;)

  829. jessica fisher

I think under normal circumstances, he would know she would not run Jonathan down. If I am not mistaking he is still under that memory charm and could believe she would. I do know is he was really happy to take that ride with her and that was something they both wanted.

  830. Sylvia Schneider

the cover is awesome….im going to have to look for these books to read! :)

  831. Trent didn’t think she would do it?! No way! He knows her too well, although riding ALONE together mayyy have crossed his manipulative little fairy mind….hmmm, hadn’t thought of that. B-)

  832. Beth LeMons

I think he used the ride as a way of testing Rach’s moral fiber. Would take revenge and hunt Jonathan, or would she stand by her morals and refuse. The rest, well why turn down a chance to get her alone, have a nice ride with her and try to get into that witchy head of hers and see if she could possibly be of more use to him later for whatever he needed whether as security or as a sounding board for the more moral right.

  833. Rachel Vale

I think he invited her because he wanted her to go, but I think part of him wanted her to say no, to stay true to her morals.

  834. I believed both of them were hunting down Jonathan, and I was shocked about the vengeance.

  835. Andrea

I think Trent THINKS he knows her well enough, but she has thrown him for loops several times.

  836. Charlene BRASUELL

I think he knew she wouldn’t. I love Rachel and Trent

  837. Kylie Whitlow

Both. I believe that he wanted to test her to see if she would and that he wanted some time with her.

  838. Steven Mc.

He knew that she was not wanting to go after Johnathan. So is not that evil even if she is a demon. The way you have made Trent out, you made him to be cunning, smart, devious, and all around in love with her. When you are in love someone you know what their thoughts are. Now I have to say Rachel did go on the ride as well. So I feel that she wanted to ride just as much as Trent did.

  839. Pippy

I don’t think it mattered to Trent if she would or wouldn’t. There was two things he wanted to do, hunt Jonathan and ride with Rachel, so he invited her along.

  840. Donna S.

Midnight ride for sure! Trent just won’t admit his feelings for Rachel, and neither will she for him!

  841. Trent is a complicated man. I Think it was for two purposes. He wanted to be alone with her, but he was also testing her, because almost everything Trent does where Rachel is concerned is a test. And because she intrigues him.

  842. rinib

I don’t think Trent expected Rachel to do that, he knows her well enough by now.

  843. Rebecca Klingsten

I’m fairly certain that Trent knew Rachel couldn’t do it and I would have to agree with others that it was just a test

  844. I’m of the opinion that Trent was testing Rachel; he wanted to see what she would do as well as offer her the opportunity for revenge.

  845. Michelle Sorensen

Both! He wanted to ride with her as well as test how far she would go when it came to simple revenge, almost like an interview or maybe testing the date waters…

  846. I agree with several others on here. I think he was testing her but also was using it as a way to share something more personal with her. He wanted to be alone with her. What better way than a midnight ride?

  847. I believed both of them were hunting down Jonathan, and I was shocked about the vengence

  848. Susan Mccray

I think Trent wanted her to but I think all along he knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. But any excuse to spend time with her, he would use and set up on motion. And just in case he was wrong, then he got what he wanted on both fronts!

  849. Julie

I think he wanted a ride:)

  850. Trent knew she wouldn’t run him down. He just wanted an excuse to get her out there.

  851. Trent knows her to well to think that she would run down Jonathan.

  852. sugarpaws81

He knew she wouldn’t do it. He is a master manipulator!!

  853. Kristen Springer

I think Trent wanted to get Rachel alone. There have been sparks flying for awhile now between them! I cannot WAIT for the new book to find out what happens!!! So sad that there will only be 13 books! :( :)

  854. Brittney Kurtz

I think it was more like a test, but he knows she wouldn’t really kill someone on purpose.

  855. Lacy Mitchell

I think he hoped she would, but even in some small part of him he knew better. I really think the whole thing was an olive branch/I trust you/reaching out type of thing. He just can’t make himself come out and say it at this point yet.

  856. Lenni

it was totally for a midnight ride, he knows her better than thinking she would do that

  857. Janice M

Deep down, Trent knew Rachel would never run Jonathan down, even if he is a scum. Hey, look at the ride Trent got with Rachel!

  858. RKnapik

I don’t think Trent knew what she would do. I feel like they have moments where they get entwined together, getting lost in eachother. Even for a moment. There’s no way he would know what she would do. I think he showed a little bit of his curiosity for by inviting her along.

  859. Cindy Aubert

Trent know Rachel wouldn’t hurt anyone he just wanted to let her in on some of his enjoyments

  860. Jenene

I think he wanted a little of both, running down something seems to be an elf tradition and I think he wanted Rachel as a part of it. But he was also testing her to see how far she would go.

  861. Vikki Hartley

Trent invited Rachel along because she deserved to hunt Johnathan down just as much as he did.

  862. Chrystal

I Think It Was Just A Test, I Don’t Think He Knew if She Would Or not.

  863. Jessica Robison

He knew he would get the ride alone with her ;)

  864. Trent was testing her. He wanted to know if she was ruthless and whether she could be trusted, but he also wanted the time with her.

  865. I don’t think Trent believed she would ride him down really, but I’m not sure. Usually I have a firm answer for one of your giveaways but this time my mind isn’t positive. I know he wanted the midnight ride too with her and was touched by the horse memory.

    Thanks for another giveaway!

  866. Kerri E

It was always my thought that he just wanted her to go riding with her. I got the impression tat, at that point in the series, he was becoming more interested in her as a person, then as an employee, especially with some of the letters between Trent, Jonathan, and Quen that were in The Hollows Insider.

  867. Krystal

Totally a ruse, but he probably wouldn’t admit it even to himself.

  868. Stacy M

I think Trent not only wanted to enjoy a ride with Rachel, but I think this was a sort of invite into his life. Not in a romantic way, but in Trent’s odd way of saying “I trust you”

  869. Michele

I think Trent wanted a midnight ride period. He knows she wouldn’t run Jonathon down but for Trent I think it was about the principle. You do not mess with anyone that he cares about. And at this stage I think Trent is realizing that he cares a great deal more than he wants to…

  870. Erin

Trent knows one thing Rachel never wants to do is kill someone so he knew he would get some alone time. He was also probably curious if he could get her to change her stance by offering her a chance at someone he knows she doesn’t like and wouldn’t necessarily mind if they were gone.

  871. Anja

I think it was a ruse, but he was probably still curious

  872. Heather B.

I think he knew she wasn’t the kind of person to run someone down. He wanted some one on one with her.

  873. Trent knew Rachel to be a good person under all her dealings with Big Al she is not malicious, nor is she petty, she seeks to help not harm. Which is witch rule number one do no harm.. Of course he wanted to see what she would do but I think deep down he knew she wouldn’t harm Jonathan although she had reason to. Hmmm maybe he also wanted to get her alone for a bit too, lol..

  874. Susan

Trent rarely has a single motive for anything he does. He really likes to learn what makes people tick and this was a perfect opportunity to learn more about Rachel and what motivates her. The fact that he got to ride with her again was definitley a bonus.

  875. Jenny T

Trent is always testing her tying to weigh her up, she constantly surprises him.

  876. Jacqueline Shay

I’m sure Trent wanted to get her alone. He needs to just forget about politics for a few hours & go for it. One kiss is not enough!!!

  877. Amanda Fletcher

Trent was probably testing Rachel, but he always seems to be a few steps ahead. he probably did want to be alone with her, and probably had a path in mind weather she ran or didn’t. He is good like that.

  878. Jamashia E

I think he knew she wouldn’t do it but wanted to see if she had it in here. I think he mainly wanted the midnight ride-along.

  879. Bethany S

He knew he brought her along because he wanted a private midnight ride with her.

  880. Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t be able to ride Jonathan down. So a moonlight horse ride with his favorite lady was definitely in mind. ;D

  881. Sarah R

I think that Trent knew that Rachel wouldn’t hunt/run Jonathan down at all. He knows, and has always known that she is a good person. I think it was a way to invite her to do something he enjoys, and get away with a midnight ride with her. Stolen moments where it was just him and her, and no need to wonder how they should act around one another. They could be themselves.

  882. Ashley Bustos

I think Trent just wanted to ride alone with Rachel.

  883. Rachel Morgan

Trent knew Rachel would never hunt anyone down. It was an excuse to spend some time alone with her.

  884. Paddi

Trent cannot run down Jonathan even with his betrayal. Trent has got to have other plans for him.. I really like that hunt with the dogs Rachel and the elves.

  885. soothinghands01

Trent likes to believer the worst in people so I believe that he thinks that she would have. But Rachel knowing herself knew she could not do it.

  886. He wanted to see if she would. Either way would tell him a lot about her personality and he would proceed with his plans from there.

  887. MellyM

Knowing the feeling of being hunted by Trent and his dogs, no way would Rachel ever be able to do that to someone else, even someone as horrible as Jonathan. Ride like an elf under the new moon? Yep, she could do that!

  888. I like to think it was a ruse for a midnight ride !

  889. He knew she wouldn’t run him down. But he also wanted to see her reaction to what was being done to a man that she hated. I think that was more the point to him, than a midnight ride. This is the first time he’s spent any time with her since he found out (for sure) that she was part demon, and smashed her head into a grave stone. I think he wanted to see if that knowledge had changed the way she worked. Seeing that it hadn’t, and she was appalled that it was evening happening, I think calmed his nerves about her all together.

  890. Diane Aitken

I figured he knew she would be too honourable to hunt Johnathan down but was kinda hoping she would come anyway so he could go riding with her.

  891. Tine

I think he has been doing these little test on Rachel all along, but, he knew which way she would react. His excuse to spend some more time with her.

  892. Raquel Priest

I think it was a test! And he wanted to go on a ride alone with Rachel!

  893. Evelyn

I think he was curious to see what she would choose.

  894. I think he knew his Rachel :D
    Happy Monday! Loving my t-shirt!
    //Linda

  895. Chris

I think he invited her to see what she would do, as well as give her the opportunity to get back at Jonathan and apologize to her in his own way

  896. Talitha

Trent doesn’t do a whole lot without having some ulterior motive behind it. At least at the beginning. Rachel does make it possible for him to be spontaneous and enjoy the simple things. I honestly think is main goal for the whole ride was to get a better gauge of Rachel’s moral compass and to possibly find a new way “in” to convincing her to work for him.

  897. I think he may have been genuinely curious to see if she would, but was pleased to have her out there regardless of the outcome.

  898. Amanda C

Win-Win either way. It was more about building trust and a relationship (of whatever kind).

  899. AndrewIslay

He knew there was no way she would do it but saw it as a way to spend time with her

  900. Nicole

Heck, she should have run him down, but of course Trent is never sure what she will do, she tends to be unpredictable. I think she had serious thoughts about it. I think he just wanted some facetime with Rachel alone though.

  901. Laura

I think Trent was always surprised by Rachel’s heart.

  902. abigailewhite

I think Trent wanted to ride with her again, but I think he was curious and was testing her to see whether she would be vengeful. Ultimately for Trent there are often two motives, and the ride took care of both getting a look into her character and enjoying her company.

  903. tricia majewski

An excuse for a midnight ride with Rachel

  904. I don’t believe he expected her to run Jonathan down. I believe he really wanted a chance to just be alone with her and ride and feel somewhat normal in the midst of everything.

  905. Rachel has always said she is a runner not a killer. It takes a lot for her to kill and then only as a last resort. If someone is killed inadvertently by her hand, it makes her mad and then she will REALLY hurt someone. So remember, don’t piss Rachel off! You don’t want to see her mad! LOL

  906. Elana

I think Trent just wanted to see what she would do but knew that morally she wouldn’t be able to do it. I think Trent wanted Rachel to be part of something that he loves because of his attraction to her :)

  907. Vicki Webster

I think Trent kinda knew what Rachel would do, but he wasn’t sure. Rachel constantly surprises him and he likes it. And for him, it was a win-win situation. He got time alone with her.

  908. Patti Pisarek

A midnight ride alone with Rachel is what Trent REALLY wanted! I don’t think he cared either way if she ran Jonathan down or not.

  909. Siobhan

I think he knew she wouldn’t, that is the aspect of her nature he enjoys most. But he wanted a reason to get her alone :-)

  910. Dianna Clark

I think it was an excuse for a free ride.

  911. Birte

Judging from what we find out later what he thinks of her, I don’t think he would have expected her to join in running down Jonathan. Maybe he was not sure at this point. But it was a good opportunity for him to try to win her trust and possible friendship. :)

  912. Kristen Rowinsky

I think Trent wanted an excuse to spend time alone with Rachel.

  913. Cynthia Sherman

I think that Trent had a reason for getting Rachel alone. One he knew her loathing for Jonathan so it was a great way to get her alone in the woods. It also would give him more insight into Rachel and what makes her ticks. Trent likes to know who he is dealing with always, so seeing as Rachel took the bait, he now knows another level of her.

  914. Heather Denise McNamara

I think it was his way of showing Rachel some of his personal life, while giving her a little back of what she had when she went to camp. Being with the horses was one of her favorite parts and this gave her a chance to experience it, while having the opportunity to give some back to Jonathan. No she wouldn’t kill him, but give him a hard time, of course.

  915. Megan Parisi

I believe Trent wanted to show/share this experience with Rachel for awhile before he invited her. After Jonathan crossed the line, which was bound to happen (again), he found the perfect excuse to invite Rachel to the Hunt!

  916. Mary Gasiewski

Trent Wanted to midnight ride. And just so you know, The cover for black magic sanction Is pretty bad a$$!

  917. Megan T

I think he was testing her, to see what kind of a person she truly is.

  918. Randi Cutburth

Trent was testing her. I also think Rachel was testing Trent in someway.

  919. Drjenn

I think it was another test for her and either way, he got a midnight ride with her. He never has just one reason.

  920. Shannon

I think that Trent knew that Rachel wouldn’t ride Jonathan down but enjoyed watching her squirm. And the midnight ride with Rachel was a bonus.

  921. Dominique Zellmer

I Honestly dont Know. I’ve even asked myself that question before.

  922. Steven Hall

I don’t think he was certain, but he really couldn’t lose. He wants Rachel but has trouble admitting it to himself.

  923. I think Trent is always pushing rachels buttons to try to figure her out completely. To see what their differences and similarities are. I think deep down he knew Rachel wouldnt run jonathan down… Because She always sticks with the underdog!!! But he also wanted to ride with her again, just like they did when they were little at the camp… he always enjoyed her company

  924. Elizabeth roy

I think he wasn’t sure what she would want to do. But he had to make the offer.

  925. Martha Bloodworth

Love this series so much! Have always thought Trent wanted a midnight ride alone with her. He knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down. He knows her so well.

  926. He probably thought she would, but tested her and he wanted a ride alone with Rachel so he won either way!

  927. Erica Knight

I think a part of him hoped she would join, kind of like a morbid curiousity to see if she would/could be more like him. Though he knew the chances were slim so he still gained by getting the alone time with her. I so think they are meant to be together. :)

  928. A midnight ride. The attraction is there, but the honesty to admit it is not.

  929. Margaret

I think he wanted to see how she would react. I don’t think he understands how traumatic the dogs were for her. Rachel also doesn’t understand that some of Trent’s violence is for show, at least where she’s concerned, and he’s playing into her expectations. Not really helping build her trust. But he always has more than one reason or his actions. Now that they both remember what it was like to ride together, I think above all, he wants to share that with her again.

  930. Hazel Daniels

I think Trent wanted to spend more time with Rachel and test her limits, while learning more about her from her choices.

  931. I think he was really looking for a way to spend time with Rachel, anything else was just added goodness.

  932. Susan Gardner

I think Trent was giving Rachel the opportunity to avenge herself if she wished to ~ and I think he needed to see how far she would go. And, I don’t think he was surprised at the outcome.

  933. Lavinna Kuberski

I think Trent has kind of been jealous of Rachel since camp. But when Rachel finds the hoof pick she “borrowed” when they were children, and returns it, he begins to see her differently. I don’t think Trent knew what Rachel would do when asked to join the hunt but he wanted her to know that Jonathon was going to pay dearly for his actions. He was just as happy to ride in the moonlight with her. Both of their defences they’ve had in place for years are beginning to drop and they are starting to respect each other, the first steps toward love and friendship.

  934. Jecika shirah

I think it was an excuse to have her alone for a midnight ride. He knew she would not run johnathan down. Its not in her to hurt people like that.

  935. Trisha Boyer

I think he knew she wouldn’t wanna participate fully but he also knew her sense of honor wouldn’t allow her to say no because of what jonathan had done.

  936. I think it was a little of both. I think he wanted those moments alone with her, but also knew she would do what was threatened.

  937. Yeah, I think he thought Rachel would hunt Jonathon. He wouldn’t have understood why her morals would have prevented her.

  938. Lisa

I think it was a ruse to spend more time with her. It seems to me, he’s intrigued that he can’t control or bully her and wants to figure out her puzzle.

  939. Jordyn

I think he didn’t understand her and her motivations well enough yet to know for sure that she wouldn’t ride him down so it was a real offer but I don’t think it surprised him that she didn’t.

  940. lisa

Trent wanted to share something he likes with Rachel !!

  941. Cheryl McL

I think he used it as a chance to get to spend time with Rachael to remind himself and her of what they used to have and what could be if they can find their way past all that stands between them.

  942. Jessica Kitten

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan down but he wanted the excuse to spend some time with her.

  943. Chrystal

He know she wouldn’t do it but he wanted her there

  944. Sheri H

I always thought he wanted to spend time with her. I’ve always rooted for a Trent/Rachel pairing, there’s just something about the interactions between the two of them.

  945. Jessica trapani

Since by this point I am sure that Trent not only respects Rachel but trusts her an even likes her, the idea of sharing that intimate ritual with her is a way of physically showing he it ends it them to be on the same team. I think that as with everything Trent does it’s also a little bit of a test. To see if in the heat i the hunt she will change her mind.

  946. I think he knew it wasn’t in her to do that but he at least wanted to give her a chance.

  947. Ama

I think Trent was testing Rachel as well as showing her a little more of the Elf way of life. Her can never guess what she is going to do and it was his way of gaining more insight into her way if thinking.

  948. Kelli L

Trent wanted to shock Rachel to see if she would hunt down Jonathan after all he had done to her, to test Rachel’s nerve. I think he wanted her to enjoy the thrill of the hunt as he does, to have that power over someone else.

  949. Truman Faircloth

I think Trent wanted a ride alone with Rachel.

  950. Knowing Rachel as well as he did, I don’t think Trent actually expected her to run Jonathan down. If she had, he would’ve just considered it a bonus.

  951. Knowing Trent he probably thought she would…and honestly ya she would.

  952. Deanna Straw

I think that Trent was tired of Jonathan and knew that Rache would totally take care of him. I think the midnight ride was a total manipulation by Trent….but a good one.

    Thanks for the awesome books!

  953. Martha Lott

I think trent just wanted to have a midnight ride with rachel but he also wanted to see if she would run jonathan down also.

  954. I knew she couldn’t and he knew she couldn’t but it’s part of him so he wanted her there.

  955. That little cookie monster was just trying to get a midnight ride with Rachel. He knew she wouldn’t kill Johnathan, plus it gave her a chance to let go of some of her anger. He plays her like a fiddle…lucky girl ;)

  956. Jessica Kitten

I think Trent knew she wouldn’t do it but just wanted the extra time with her. Trent can be sneaky like that.

  957. Angela

I think Trent just wanted some alone time with her .

  958. Dawn Laroche

I’d like to think it was a ruse, I love the idea of Rachel and Trent together and have enjoyed how their relationship has evolved!

  959. Gen

He knew she wouldn’t run him down, but if he was wrong it would still be a win, win situation for Trent!

  960. Wednesday W

I think Trent thought Rachel might participate in the hunt because of what Jonathan had done so he was giving her the option. However Trent was also wanting to spend time alone with Rachel. In the end he learned more about her and got to spend time alone with her.

  961. I think Trent knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathon down. He’d been watching Rachel for a while and knew her basic personality. He likes to push Rachel’s limits so he would have been happy if she had run him down but I don’t think he expected her to actually do it. He already had a plan B for when Rachel didn’t run Jonathon down. I believe he was content with the time alone with her.

  962. drgnldy71

Trent has learned quite a bit about who Rachel is at this point. He’s angry with Jonathan but he knew Rachel wouldn’t run him down. It’s just not her way. The Hunt was more him trying to get Rachel to work with him than anything else. He’s starting to respect her as a person instead of just a potential employee, and maybe growing to like her just a little bit.

  963. I think by this point he knew she wouldn’t enjoy hunting down Jonathan, regardless how much she disliked him.

  964. Samantha

He knew she wouldn’t run Jonathan over

  965. Ashley Miller

I think Trent knew Rachel well enough by then to know that she wouldn’t run him down, but he wanted to be sure. I also think that by now him wanting to spend time alone with her isn’t far off either. <3

  966. Teri

He invited her to get to ride with her :)

  967. megan mcgee

I think that Trent expected her to refuse but gave her the option to run him down. He seems to enjoy Rachel’s sometimes unpredictable nature. Deep down, I feel that he knew that Rachel would not do it. He still loves Jon as Rachel called him. Even if he did lose respect for him and have to put him in his place.

  968. kothmia

Mostly, I’d say he was curious to see if she would. The Wild Hunt is part of being an Elf. As Rachel influences all of the Interland races around her, i think he truly did want her to know what part of what it meant to be an Elf. (At this point, she grew up as a witch;she’s were’d; she’s worn caps/been around good/bad vamp things, been pixie small, and spent more than her share of time in the ever-after with the demons – that’s MOST of the major Interland races).

  969. Lori Simpson

Haven’t gotten that far in series yet. But i really love the cover.

  970. Jer

He didn’t care either way, he just wanted her there. If nothing else, he was just checking her reaction.

  971. James

Midnight ride. He wanted her to have a reason to keep fighting, to not give up, plus he said Ceri wanted another woman as part of the hunt.

  972. Valerie

He wanted to spend time with her. :)

  973. Jennifer McClelland

I think he knew Rachel wouldn’t run Jonathon down. He’d been watching Rachel for a while and knew her basic personality. He likes to push Rachel’s limits so he would have been happy if she had run him down but I don’t think he expected it to happen. He was content with the time alone with her.

  974. krys20118

Trent wanted to ride with her and if they happened to find Jonathan then good but not just wanted to see her in the moonlight ;-)
